Welcome to the new members of the next class. The training is very demanding physcially and mentally. Here's the website to check out and get more info.
Mariann - the only thing we didn't get a chance to do while my son was at Camp P was skype. They go back to living in close quarters so not much privacy.
Welcome Mariann, Your corpsman is arriving at a perfect time of the year to train in Camp Pendleton, California. This 2 month journey will test your cubs endurance, mental and physical abilities and absolutely little to no sleep! But the reward is so well worth it!! Communication with your cub eases up a bit with intermittent calls a night but more freely on weekends!
We look forward to getting to know you and your corpsman and someone will always be here when ever you needs us!
just stoping by to say hi. hope everything is going well with everyone! we are still here if anywone ever needs to talk or anything!! i am just enjoying time with my bf now that i get to see him just about everyday again!! loving it!!!! can't wait to one day not have to give him back each night though. when we are married and finally living together! hopefully that isnt tooooo far away!
jlc-so glad you got to spend a good amount of time with your son! sorry he is on hold though! that is a bummer!! but for now he is at least closer to home!
Glad to hear everyone is doing great! Jlc that must be a bummer for your son and to not know for how long! Hopefully his hold will keep him busy till anything changes.
My bf is glad to be home! He got his schedule for his weekend trainings and will be back to work after next week.
My bf also had nothing to complain about while being in CP. He loves his boots, and like Ruth said they are more comfy than the black ones from GL. They get fed pretty well too. He would send me a picture of his breakfast or lunch and wow! He would eat better than me lol! The days were longer compared to A school in GL but he enjoyed a lot of it. On the weekends we were able to skype every now and then but I always made sure he studied first.
My Corpsman was assigned to the clinic right by FMTB! He kinda disappointed after the adrenaline high of field medical. Nice and safe, just like I wanted.
He will be there when TB guys need a clinic visit. He did say that Navy food is better than Marine food.
I wish for fun! 6 months with the Marine Unit he's attached to, nobody shooting at him.
His best friend was sent to the Medical Center in Japan about a month ago. Only 2 guys from FMTB went to that clinic. I think he's lucky. He just wants to PT all day
My cub went with 20 other FMTB grads to the 3/7 at 29 Palms. Unfortunately, he and one other got rerouted to the 2/7 instead. He will be deploying much earlier than I'm ready for. And, he would have preferred to deploy with the 3/7. Oh well, that's why they call them 'orders'.
Ruth how true you are about the train. I agree with you JLC that it is always in the back of our mind. My son just drove to his first duty station and posted that night about being tired and homesick already, but talked with him today and his spirits are much better. I think 2 hours sleep before a 5 hour car ride not a smart idea. He says he has met a of people and has so much more storage room than A school or FMTB. He will be working in a clinic Monday-Friday and one of the Master Chiefs says he drives home every weekend and doesn't live that far from us so may be able to see him alot more wihich would be great.
Hope all that are on hold get new orders soon, know it is not fun to stay on a training base.
My daughter and son in law are leaving Okinawa and coming to Pendleton tomorrow, I will be so happy to have them out of Japan. They start the flying in a few hours.
HI Carol. My SIL is the corpsman. My daughter hopes to teach elementary school in Oceanside. She graduated college and followed her hubby to the rock (as she called it.) He will be working in the dental clinic I think. I may be wrong. The orders have changed so many times.
pretty good. we are just kinda living life day to day now. he is in "INDOC" now. they are pretty much giving him the basics of then "new" station. meaning all the new people that just got there. because he is "new" to the perment sation even though he has been there for 3 months before FMTB and knows his way around. and he went back to working in his ward at the hospital. we are planning on taking a few days and going back home to visit family around june. so looking forward to that! and hopefully i can start planning a wedding for us in the not so far away future.. :)
Yeah wondering where our nice weather went to, had sprinkles this morning as taking kids to school. My son is settling in at his clinic, hasn't started working in it yet have to get all the testing and such done first. He got some good news that he can apply to go to school now instead of having to wait for a year. He wants to go after his RN like his Mama :)
Jess glad to hear that you are both doing well, how fun to plan a wedding. My daughters is in full swing, we addressed envelopes today. My neighbor printed the invites for us as my printer wouldn't do it. Now tomorrow will have to stuff them and get them mailed. July is coming soon, only got 6 months to do it all in.
MrsS- Thanks for the link! I will have to check it out.
Joan-Glad to hear about the good news for your son! And I hope all the testing goes well and quick so he can get into working in the clinic. It is kinda nice to be back to a regular routine!
Ruth-Glad you are able to visit with your son!! I am sure you are having a great time!
JLC- Still no offical plans for our wedding yet. Just doing my day dreaming for now. But soon!
RuthVH, What a wonderful experience!! I'm so happy for you that your visit with you're cub was so memorable. I give you an A plus for being such a great teacher and raising such a dedicated navy corpsman...you should be very proud!!
Mariann - I'm pretty sure they take everything that has been issued to them. My son had two seabags and a bag of civilian clothing. He will have inspections during the eight weeks of FMTB.
Ruth - what a great visit you had!! Makes your heart swell with pride!
I know two Corpsman classing up next week. My corpsman graduated Corps school last July, almost everyone went FMTB. I don't know what to think either. Mine is now attached to the AAV Unit at Pendleton. He also does sick-call for FMTB.
Linda - I will keep them all in my prayers and hope for a speedy recovery for all of them.
Carol - Ditto for you and your son. There are no words that will take that worry away, just know that we are all here if you need support. I'm sure you've joined the Afghan Group and will find much support there also. Navy Mom Hugs to You...
V - welcome to the Group!! I've been following a friend whose son just left yesterday for boot. Oh I would never want to go through that again...
Just to let you know Okinawa in the summer is hot and humid!!! I visited my daughter and SIL last summer. Your clothes are damp all the time either from the sudden rain or humidity. I am not exaggerating. They had a machine in their closet that helped to keep their clothes dry. Do you know what Camp he will be at?
Wow a lot going on here. Linda prayers to the Corpsman and Marines that were hurt for a speedy recovery.
JLC glad to hear the guys are going to get on with their assignment, waiting can be so hard.
MrsS my son is working in a clinic also doing sick call. He has been pretty busy lately getting settled in Nevada and recovering from a car accident his first week there. He was a passenger and had neck pain so know he had whiplash. What a way to start a new assignment. He may be coming home for a visit this weekend, sure hope so would be great to see him.
Carol you and your son are in my prayers, this is such a stressful thing for us Moms to have to go through. My son would really like to be attached to a Marine unit and go green, makes this moms heart skip a beat.
Okinawa would remind me of Minnesota in the summer, humidity and rain. I really miss the thunderstorms in the summer, never thought I would. In Cali the rain is usually in the winter when it is cold although we are still getting some here in April.
For us it was 16 hour difference in Okinawa. I am a substitute teacher so I would always start the class , " What time is it in Okinawa?"LOL. I am so happy to finally have them back on our time zone. It makes you appreciate little things like time zones.:)
The calls were welcomed no matter what time they came. Sometimes I just had to wake up. The scarey ones for typhoons and tsunamis were like a bad dream.
My son is six hours ahead of us, so he makes it a point to call me on my lunch break at least once a week to check in. He knows when he gets off work, I'm on my lunch! You do learn little ways to remember - such as having our time zone clock and his time zone clock on my computer. Now, all I have to do is click on the time in the lower right-hand corner.
JLC - just click on the time and at the bottom of the box it will say "Change date and time settings." Click on that and the box that opens up will have a second tab called "Additional Clocks" Just add it there. It really helps me since I don't have to count six fingers! LOL - anything to make it easier!
My son starts FMTB on Monday. He was very excited, and a little apprehensive when they moved over on Friday. He has several friends that were in A school with him at Great Lakes that have been keeping him informed on what to expect. We're ready for another ride on this roller coaster. :) Anyone else starting on Monday?
welcome to all the new people with loved ones going into FMTB today!! GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS ON THE NEW CHAPTER! feel free to ask tons of questions!! i know i always did!
linda- so glad that your son is getting back to a normal routine and he can talk to you more!
and congrats to all that are finally being able to ship to their first stations!
Mariann - That was one thing my asked me not to send while at FMTB. I used to send cookies / brownies every week while he was in A School, but he didn't want to draw attention to himself at Camp P. I did, however, try to surprise him with a birthday present because he turned 21 while there. Well, it didn't go over well because I didn't know his building number and when Fed Ex tried to call him, he got really frustrated becuase HE didn't know the building number. Yep, Mom got the call. I think he really did appreciate it though - after the fact. He said it was so intense at times that he didn't want to deal with any distractions. Anyway, that was my story about packages - there might be others that have better experiences.
Good luck to your son. The eight weeks will fly by!

JLC - I hope my cub makes it home before he deploys, but he didn't have those details when I spoke to him. I'm praying a lot, right now.
Ruth - "Voluntold" is the exact word that my cub used when he called with the news.
Carol - I don't think that 2/7 and 7th ESB are related, but then I don't know how the green-side is organized either.
Thank you all for the support. This group is the greatest.
