I think most guys take a some leave after FMTB. I am always afraid to say, "yes" anything. Things in the Navy are never predictable.
  • Mary Jo-Mom of a Corpsman

I can't believe how fast FMTB is flying by for my son!  I guess I had better look into hotels in the area for his graduation.  What do you experienced Corpsman moms recommend?
  • vettespace

proudascanbe, my son was given liberty to stay with me after graduation until he flew out on Sunday to his PDS.  We left the base right after graduation (three sea bags and a back pack) and stayed in San Diego for the weekend.
  • Mary Jo-Mom of a Corpsman

Thank you JLC and Ruth.  That helps a lot.

  • proudascanbe HM mom

Thanks everyone for the info.  His orders say that he's to report to Japan by June 28th (he graduates June 24), but we think he'll be put on hold (who knows).  I'll have my daughter and his wife with me.  We'll get a couple of rooms nearby and hope for the best.  He said that he wants to be a close to CP as possible in case he suddenly has to fly out.  Thanks again
  • jesspoo05

grandboboo- my bf is working at the hospital and i know that he was talking about moving off base. he has some friend on base but they arent allowed to get BHA at this time and wants someone to move off that will get BHA. The closest gates to the hospital is the Fallbrook and the Oceanside (near walmart) not the main gate in oceanside. I live in fallbrook and i know my bf was wanting to move out there to be near me. My bf is 22. we are planning on getting married just not sure how soon, so if your son wanted a roommate, i am not sure how long my before we got married. but a thought. maybe you can private message me and we could talk more if your son even wants a roomate. What ward does your son work in? and does he have a car or transportation?

and hello to all!! another friday is here!! congrats to all the FMTBers!! almost there!!! home stretch!!

  • Pam

Hi all!  Hope everyone is doing well and I hope the current class can see the "light" at the end of the tunnel.
  • jesspoo05

another friday!!! yay!! almost there fmtb-ers!!! what is it? 2 more weeks? and isnt most of the last week mostly clean up? yay! congrats!
  • eurekamom

Only two more weeks! Can't wait!
  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Hello all just joined this group! My son is at CP for the next 4 months. He graduated A school GL's late May. He is due to start FMTB in July. Any input would be greatly appreciated  ;-)

  • mamawalrus

    Regina...congrats to your son!

My son will be heading this way very soon, he will graduate A school July 25th and go to FMTB>  He said if there is an overflow here they will send him to CL instead. I am hoping he comes here,, much closer to NM and AZ !!!!!

Once they start FMTB can you tell me if they are allowed visitors at all?

  • eurekamom

Get to see my corpsman in four more days four more days four more days four more days!!!!!!   Yahooooooo!    Can't wait for graduation!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • jesspoo05

congrats eurekamom!! that is wonderful!! your time as finally come!! i know you will enjoy it sooo much!!

Mamawalrus- they are allowed visitors. but not unil like week 4 or so. they also need to be with a liberty buddy the whole time they are off base. the first bit of time they are off base is only during th weekend days. and then they are allowed over night libery on the weekends. as long as they are with their buddy. so if you get a hotel and your son wants to stay with you plan on having a buddy there too! i am sure he can get you on base but he may have to come off and get you first or something. even though you may be able to get on base if you tell them that you are getting your son from fmtb. i hope he gets to go the CP, yes that is ALOT closer to az and nm!! good luck!!

  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Hello Ruth! Thank you for the information :-)   I told my son he is lucky to be in Southern CA in the summer for FMTB. I'm originally from CA, but have spent the last 21 years living in AZ, so we know about hydrating and sunscreen...lol. He will be off to Lemoore, CA after FMTB per his orders. I'm happy he will obly be a short 10 hour drive from me. lol at strange sense of humor "The Corpsman" is true! I sure will try to make his graduation. If not, then I will definately grab the DVD. What is Marine EOD Unit? Thank you all for the warm welcome to this group too  :-)
  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

@Mammawalrus - congrats to your son too! I sure do hope he get's to go to CP, instead of CL. Luckily the Navy let you know in advance your son was going FMTB. They changed my sons orders one day before he was to leave to Lemoore, CA......lol. They said oh btw, your going to CP for FMTB. Gotta love the short notice. What part of NM are you in?
  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

    ty JLC mom ;-)
  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Carol - sounds rather scary, I agree. So are they classified as going greenside only when they are attached to a Marine Unit? LIke I said earlier, after FMTB my sons orders say Lemoore, CA.
  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Carol - so do you think it is better to get FMTB out of the way early on?
  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Carol  - I think I would have to agree with you on the independence and barracks living. Fortunately, my son doesnt know any better yet! lol  Also, do you have to volunteer to go green side or are they just told they have too?
  • mamawalrus

Regina.. where in AZ are you? I lived there for quite awhile and still go back to visit my parents and sister n law family.  We love it there but not sure I could get re-adjusted to that heat! LOL

Jesspoo05....does he have to have buddy being with family?  In GL's we could be considered his buddy for the overnights, he had to fill out a chit saying he was with family.

  • mamawalrus

Regina.. we are in Rio Rancho,, right outside of Albuq.
  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Mammawalrus - I know exactly where you are. I recently moved from Sedona to Payson after my husband and I closed our construction company late last year  :-(   Recession killed us financially. Closed our doors after 20 years. We live in the cooler region of the state. I was in Santa Fe for the first last year. Enjoyed the few days we stayed there. NM is a beautiful state.
  • mamawalrus

Oh we love Payson,,it is so pretty there.  We go through there on our way to see my mom.. she used to live in Mesa and then moved up to Queencreek.  We also stop at that McDonalds for a pit stop on our way.

We are about 30 min from Santa Fe.

  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Awe Ruth - very interesting! My son did mention the world voluntold. How do the Marines have total authority over the Navy where they can voluntold our kids? So right after my son finishes FMTB he can be attached to the Marines with EOD or MEU eventhough his orders say Lemoore afterwards?
  • mamawalrus

‎(N4M's can you help pass this on?) ATTENTION MARINES IN SAN DIEGO - Westboro Church is claiming to be in San Diego tomorrow protesting the memorial of LCpl. Jason D. Hill. Please go and show your support for this fallen Marine and his family, and let the WBC know that we honor and respect those who fight for our country! Thurs., June 23, at 10:15 a.m., Maranatha Chapel, 10752 Coastwood Rd., San Diego, CA.
  • jesspoo05

thank you mamawalrus for posting that! i soooooo wish i could have made it there! hope to hear that there was a good turn out to block out the protestors!!!
  • mamawalrus

hope all is will with all of you.
i started my new location for my job. closer to home! yay! but i am not really loving my hours. i hope they can hire some more people soon so i can work morinings. when i work nights i can't see my bf at all since he lives on base and i live off. which is the WHOLE reason i moved to ca in the first place..... oh well.... all in God's hands!! trying to remember that!
  • eurekamom

My son graduated FMTB on the 24th, and it was a very nice ceremony. I stayed at Ward Lodge, which is right on the base. It is not close to the schoolhouse where the ceremony was held, but I liked it because that way the morning of the ceremony I was already through security. I had a very nice room with refrigerator and microwave, etc. and it was (I think) $65 per night. Can't beat it!
  • jesspoo05

eurekamom- so glad you got to go! it is a nice ceromony! congrats to your son!
grandboboo-thanks for the info. i didn't even hear about it! their families are in our prayers!
  • mom22militarymen

My husband and I went out for the FMTB graduation on June 24, 2011 and were honored to be there. Our son looked great as did all the Corpsmen that day. The ceremony was wonderful and all the guests and visitors were beaming with pride for their Corpsmen. My husband and I were moved by the ceremony and awed by the hard work those men did to get through the training.

We stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn in Oceanside. It was about a 15 minute ride to the base, easy to get to. The hotel was pretty new, beautiful, clean and the customer service was great.

To all of you who have sailors who graduated that day, Congratulations.

  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Mom22 - I always stay at Marriott! They have the cleanest rooms. My son starts FMTB on August 1st. Looking forward to the ceremony too  :-)
  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Ruth - ty for sharing, sounds like you had a wonderful time  :-)
  • jesspoo05

been a little quite on here. just wanted to stop in and say hi! hope all is well with everyone! i am a little excited cause it seems like our vacation is finially falling into place! my bf and i are going back to az to spend almost 2 weeks with family and friends. it is already almost a year since we have been back. i cant wait! still waiting on offical word that his leave gets approved. but outlook looks good! this is the closest we have gotten, we were supposed to go back at the beginning of april but things just kept changing! don't want to get tooo excited yet but it will be a nice roadtrip for us. first one we have ever gone on just the 2 of us!!! yay!!!!
  • MrsS

Yeah Jess! Vacations are the best. It has been quiet here. Being on base has been wonderful for my family and Corpsman. Right now he's out in 29 Palms with his AAV unit. I kinda feel bad for having an Ocean view when he is in 110 degrees with only sagebrush in sight.

    Any other updates out there?

  • Pam

jesspoo05 - That's wonderful things are falling into place for you and the boyfriend.  It's always great for the soul to go back and be with family.  When my husband was in the Army and stationed in El Paso, TX, we drove from there to Chicago.  It only took 26 hours!  Never again!  And I had a puppy plastered to me and I was pregnant with my son Jamie (my Corpsman).  We still do road trips to Chicago every now and then from Atlanta, thank goodness only half the distance!

    Hope everyone's doing well....

  • jesspoo05

mrsS- that is great that things are going well for you on base! i can understand feeling a little bad about a nice ocean view and him having to be at 29 plams! hope he is almost done and gets to come home to a cooler place soon!!

pam- i am looking foward to going home!! i cant wait!! and i know about thoes long road trips well!! im from mn and moved to az! so we drove that a handful of times. it is 30 hr drive! ick! this is only going to be a 8 hr drive to go back to az. so not to bad! and glad you still get to visit home and that it isn't so far anymore!
  • jesspoo05

his leave was offically approved last week!! yay!! vacation here we come!! watch out tucson!! only about 37 days till we go!! yay!!!
and also got to see my dad for the day. he was in town on business and i didn't find out till sunday. i had tues already off so i drove the hour and a half to go see him for about 10 hours or so. any chance to see my parents i will take, since they live in MN and I don't get to see them very often! but good news as well, my mom and my dad are both going to be in town in about 2 months and i will get to see them and spend some time with them both again!! yay!! seems like things are going pretty well, i am blessed!! hope all is well with all of you!
but if it isn't and anyone feels like talking we are always here for any of you!!!!
  • jesspoo05

ruth. sorry about the weather. even though the weather is hot for pretty much everywhere. here it seems pretty nice actually. hope it cools down soon though. nice comic, and sooo true.. lol. and hope everything is going well for your son in the field. hope he is learning/perfecting a lot of good skills, and having some fun too!
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Hello All! Just thought I'd find out more about what my SR will be embarking on once he gets through BC & A school.
  • eurekamom

Hi HvnlySno - welcome!  You will enjoy this site.  Lots of good people with good information.
  • jesspoo05

welcome HvnlySno. glad to answer any questions you may have. where is your SR now, BC? if so how far along are they? or have they left yet?
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Thank you for the welcome!  He got there 6/30, so I think he's in the PIR 8/26...haven't gotten a letter yet...none today, hopeing for tomorrow...I'm in Alaska, so I'm sure mail takes awhile!  He joined as a reservist about a month before the age cut off...39.  He is a social worker by trade :)  We just met this past spring and our friendship grew...alot!  So, I'm not a recipiant of "The Box" or the form letter...so I have no idea what division he's in.  I have a stack of letters waiting for his address though!  Anyhow, I'm not sure what I want to know, but I want to support and encourage him!  Thanks!
  • jesspoo05

if and when you can get his address, write, write, write, write!! even if you have to wait till later to get them to him. even though i hope you can get ahold of him. thoes letters are not only important to him to help support him, they are a really good way for you to feel like you are talking to him and feel closer to him, and to help pass the time. time will fly!! are you going to try to go to graduation? good luck! we are here for you!!
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

I've got 13 letters written so far! No mail today :( some say it takes maybe 4 weeks to get a letter. Plus I'm pretty far north! I'm not going to graduation, but we are talking about a big vacation after he's done training. I've even been keeping a journal where I "talk" to him. I'll give it to him someday. Thanks for being here!
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Ruth, my SR best friend; who introduced us, is aquainted with his brother (they all grew up together)...but, she only has access to him on facebook. I'll see her monday and we shall see what we can do! If anything I can at least try on my end! Shows my loyalty & ingenuity!! LOL! But, as someone who's gone into servic myself; though briefly (medical discharge) I can relate to what he's going through. I'm sure being older will have it's challenges, but he can do it! I believe in him! I don't want him to go through BC without knowing someone out there supports him and has faith in him! Thank you!
  • Pam

Ruth - love the cartoon and can relate.  Although originally from Chicago we have been outside of Atlanta for eleven years now and this summer has been brutal here.  Uck!  Ready for something in the 80s!

Welcome HvnlySno - Friends, girlfriends, moms, dads - ALL are welcome.  If I hadn't found this site, I'm quite sure I would have been clueless as to what SR's go through!  Definately join the bootcamp group.  It will help you get a handle on what they go through.

  • Joan F

Hi all haven't been on here in quite awhile, but hopefully now things will calm down. My daughter got married on July 9 and is now living at Camp Pendleton with her Marine. My Corpsman was home for a couple of weeks for the holiday and the wedding, it was so nice to have him home for a short while.

Jesspoo so glad your vacation is shaping up, it is so needed. I am also from MN was born and raised in Minneapolis. My mom couldn't make it out for the wedding so haven't seen her in a few years. So glad you got to spend some time with your Dad. Hope all is well and all are keeping well with this heat, is supposed to get in the 100's here in Nor Cal.

  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Hello All! I got my letter today! Finally! So out went 18 cards, letters & Dodger scores to my love! He says it's "**ll" but the food is good! Lol! It took 2 almost 2 weeks to get to me! I'm glad to know he's ok & hanging in there!
