Good Morning Ladies, I used Travelocity for my flights and rental car, hotel. My suggestion to you is to use a credit card and not your debit card. Using your debit card in another state they will put big holds on it and then when you want to use it they may put a hold on your card.
Be aware that if you use a debit card to book your hotel room or a rental car that they most likely will put a hold on funds for more than the amount to cover any unforeseen charges, so you may want to use a credit card when making those reservations or make sure that you have plenty of funds in your bank account so that your card will not be denied when you go to use it.
Some of you may recognize me...my oldest son just left for,his first duty station yesterday after finishing A school. He is in Hawaii! My middle son will be signing up for DEP soon this spring after his Junior year. Thought I would hang out as I have just been through all of this with my oldest and might be of some help. Also, there are not many boards that are active after A school it seems.

Good Morning All just checking in to see how you all are holding up. If there is anything I can do for you please just ask and I will do my best. We have a Great Group of Ladies that are more than welcome to answer also. Have a Great Day!
I don't believe there is nothing silly about missing your Son/Daughter it is all Normal. We as Moms will do anything it takes for our children no matter the age and if missing them is all we can do for this moment then so be it. I cried all the time, every time he came to my mind which was always I shed some tears. So It is ok.
Welcome GAsailormom, I can understand feeling overwhelmed, there is a whole lot of information but better more than none. Here is a site you can join when that time comes. But please do look at other sites, like what to bring and not bring, I will get you the sites and put them on your page.
GAsaliormom- As Phoenixmom stated - Don’t get overwhelmed. Trust me I know it can be overwhelming!! My SR hasn’t even left for bc yet as well. I have been on this site for awhile now, reading and taking it all in. Sometimes I just skim the posts other times I save them. There is a lot to take in. And this journey is different for everyone, but we all have one thing in common our beloved SR. I joined my DEP leaving in month and it was quite then became more active the closer is has gotten to leaving. Don’t be afraid to stop following a certain group and come back later when it’s closer or when you have questions that need to be answered.
There are many great people on here who have gone through the process. Lots of help and support when needed.
Glad your on the site, enjoy it and don’t fret about it! From what I’ve expierenced - This is one big community of helpers and comforters. I am very grateful for them all!
Ceej0347 Thank You for sharing, I really want GAsailormom to know that we all have either went thru it or just beginning. And GAsailormom you will see we all stick together, no matter the Concern/Emotion/Thought/Question you have come to the right place. Right now spend as much time with your Loved one and don't worry yourself. We all are here for you.
Hi. New mom here. My son is going to BC on Feb. 8. He's one of the older ones - 27, college grad, four years of work under his belt. But "this" is his passion and he is finally pursuing it. I'm so excited for this group because moms know how to ask the right questions and get the right answers. We have learned so much from this group. I am so thankful, because at the end of the day, they are still our babies.
Rnmom...I would like to know as well. When will we know if kids are sent home from boot camp? Does this happen? Do they wait a week? I know my son who left 1/9 hasn't received first paycheck so I'm sure that will be delayed? Can anyone help with answers?
Missomd and RNmom.... Military continues as normal during a shut down. I was certainly assume this would include BC. Also paydays are 1st and 15 of the month so if he left on the 9th, he's not actual due one until Feb 1. Hope this helps
My son was scheduled to leave or BC on May 23rd. He was offered a bonus if he left in January. He agreed and signed the paperwork for the bonus. A week later he was told that there was no longer any positions available for the job that he has originally signed up for when joining the Navy. They offered him a new position. He has verbally agreed to take the new position. For the last week we have received no news (partially because of the weather in the south shutting everything down). With the government shut down, what are the chances of him leaving for BC in January? My son quit his job thinking he was going to leave in the next two weeks. We feel abandoned no knowing when he is leaving or what he is doing. We have called his On-Boarder, but no one answered and no VM option.
Good Morning Ladies hope all is well, Tina your PIR is Listed on Boot Camp for moms. please join.
Right now the only news I have received from My Sailor is that they are not getting paid. Not sure about any holding back from joining or leaving to BC.
as far as your Daughter there is no such thing as being a Loser, much of them have struggles and they get the chance to re-test to get them to pass, now going thru battlestations is another thing this is there final test I will put a site for you to read on that, she must stay awake at all times. I will put info on your page. And best wishes to your Daughter.
Hi all! I am brand new to being a Navy Mom. Literally, my son just found out yesterday that he has finally been accepted and will be heading to boot camp March 8th (I believe he called it his "ship out date"). This site has been most helpful so far, but of course I still have a million questions. I dig around on here until I find the answer. I am so glad I found you guys, and so very proud to be here!
Just an FYI, if you have a Loved one that just barely left for BC, depending on the time they arrive at Great lakes you will receive the I'm here call, it may be late in the evening, you want to keep the phone close. these calls can come with an area code 847 or a different one, the reason being is they may be using another's cell phone if they hadn't taken theirs.
Soon after your recruit arrives at the RTC, s/he will be permitted to make the “I’m here!” call. It will be short (30 seconds or less--10 to 20 seconds is average) and to the point. "I made it. I'm here. I'm fine. Look for a box in a few days and a letter in about a week. I will try to call in about 3 weeks. Love ya. I gotta go." (Sometimes the recruits say 2 weeks instead.) Recruits are sometimes given up to 2 minutes for this call, but many still stick with the four pieces of information that they have to relay and cut the call short. This call can come at any time, even in the wee hours of the morning for some depending on the flight or bus schedule. If your recruit took a cell phone with him or her, then this will be the last call from that phone before you receive it back in "the box" a few days later. Sometimes a recruit does not get to make this call if s/he did not take a cell phone or his/her cell phone battery is dead because the recruits now must use a cell phone for this call and there is not always time for everyone to make the call on a borrowed cell phone. There are no phone banks at Inprocessing.
If you have a phone call from the 847 area code, or US GOVERNMENT, or PRIVATE CALL, or RESTRICTED, or PAY PHONE, or WITHHELD, or UNAVAILABLE or ATT CALLING CARD, be sure to answer!!! (It is possible that a Recruit could call from another area code as well--773, 224, 312, 872 are all area codes in that area.)
FYI when the Box comes to your home someone needs to be home to accept the box, if not they will leave a note asking for you to pick it up.
You may be able to leave a signed and dated note for FedEx to leave the box without a signature, but you may need to have the form from FedEx that indicates it is permitted. You can also go to www.fedex.com/us/delivery and set up the delivery options. FedEx used to leave the box without a signature, but since most of them contain a cell phone now, they must have a signature unless directed to leave the box without a signature. Other loved ones have been able to go by a FedEx office and sign a form that permits the driver to leave a box arriving from GL or Waukegan, IL without a signature. If there is nothing on file with FedEx, the driver will leave a note on the first delivery attempt that has a place for you to sign if you want the driver to leave the box on the next attempt without a signature. Some recruits trash or donate the clothes that were worn to the RTC rather than paying for sending them home, but if your recruit took a cell phone with him/her, you will receive "the box" or you may receive a large padded FedEx envelope rather than a box. (Look for the cell phone in one shoe and the battery in the other shoe or in separate pockets.)
Navy officials announced today that, starting Jan. 1, 2018, the service will implement an initial run test that all recruits will have to pass in order to begin recruit training.
A mile and a half will have to be covered, for men, in under 16 minutes and 10 seconds, and under 18 minutes and 7 seconds for women, the Navy said.

Hi Everyone, I just received a call from my son. I guess at training on Sunday he had a fall and a dummy fell on his head and he was taken to the hospital and was there over night. Had tests done and CT scan said he had head trauma, he lost consciousness and had amnesia for alittle bit. I don't know how the CT scan can show that. Anyhow he is in a room with 200 other injured trainees. He said he has a headache but most of all he is so heartbroken and so are we. He said in 1 wk. he meets with Legal and I guess they decide whether he comes home 3 wks after the incident or he starts from scratch. So, my question is has anyone else gone through this with their sons or daughters? If he comes home in 3 wks he was told he would have to start the entry to the Military all over again. If that happens will he be able to go into the Military?? I would appreciate any feedback on this. We are so heartbroken for him. This was his dream. Thank you, Maryann
Good Morning MaryAnn I am so sorry to hear this about your son, just very thankful he is ok and nothing worse. I do have to say that there are many that are being held back due to injury/sickness or just not passing the Run/FIT. But from what you are saying it looks like he may be able to start all over, but this will need to be stated as to what happen. My prayers are with your Family and Recruit.
Hello. I am new here. My son is in TG-21. Looking forward to the PIR being formed so I can meet other mom's in his group. Thanks for all the great advice. MaryAnn I hope your son is doing better.
Good Morning Freebird, welcome to the site, hope you meet many a Ladies, and if there is anything that I can help you with please ask.

Thank you so much. The only questions I have so far are. 1 My Son ships out on Feb. 27th, when is he scheduled to graduate? I have to schedule time off in advance. 2. My Son's best friend ships out on Feb. 21st and my Son on Feb. 27th. Is it likely they will be in the same group? Thanks in advance for your help.
Good Morning Django and welcome to Navy Moms. I will give you some info.
