I will definitely read everything and share with my son. He has ran track since age 9, in high school and college. He is very physically fit. He and his friend go workout every morning. So I have no doubt he should pass the running test. He also can swim. I will see if there is anything else he will need. Thanks so much for your help.
  • Phoenixmom

That is Good Django, Best wishes to your Son and Congratulations!

  • Phoenixmom

Excited4mydarj thank you for wanting to share your experience, if you could also put it on Boot camp for Moms that would be great. we have many that are preparing to attend PIR. Congratulations to your Sailor!

Hi everyone. Just joined and I am a huge cry baby.  Even reading comments makes me cry.  My son is just starting, going to take his ASVAB and then I guess the medical physical stuff and initial swearing in tomorrow and Thursday.  He says he won't be off to boot camp until late March/early April.  Thanks for this site.  I have a feeling I will be on here a bunch.

  • Phoenixmom

Sherri Mom you have come to the right site, you will be ok here, all of us have gone thru it or just barely starting out. So anything you need just ask. I will put some info on your my page to go over. Welcome!

  • Casey's mom

New here my son leave on 2/21. i am so worried about him and all the new physical fitness stuff he has to do. He has been at the track running and can do the mile and a half with no problem. But he has super skinny arms and has issues with push ups, will they work will him to build muscle?

  • lemonelephant

Tanster, he will get the training that he needs if he is ready when he arrives. Hopefully he has been working out in DEP and on his own so that he is prepared. See the info in Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for...Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training (FIT) has info that he and you need to be aware of.

  • Casey's mom

Lemonelephant: Thank you for the info. I know my son will do great i am just a worried mom that will miss him greatly.

  • lemonelephant

    Tamster, you are very welcome.

Good Morning Ladies, hope all is well this Friday.

I would like to share today's daily bible verse.

    Proverbs 18:10

The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

All will be fine Ladies with your SR."s as long as they have the determination inside they can and will over come these trails.

  • Beach Mama SC (ship 2 DIV 925 )

Thank you for sharing the daily bible verse as Faith in protection of our boys, military, and country is what I'm believing in,as God will never abandon them Deuteronomy 3:16

Quick question...my son leaving for BC next week from Dallas.  We live a few hours from the area, but because of the chaos downtown, we wanted to stay the night nearby, and go the next morning to watch him swear in and see him off.  Does anyone have any suggestions on hotels?  And maybe what time we should plan on getting there the morning of.

    Thank you!

  • Phoenixmom

Horizon2018 the Recruiter should let you know what time the swearing in takes place, also your Son will be staying in a Hotel the night before maybe you can check into the same hotel, or one near it, your son should have all instructions, I would check with him. because the night he goes to hotel you will be able to spend a few hours with him and maybe go to dinner before he leaves. he will get briefed so he should have more information.

  • TRenee

Hi everyone.  I just joined today.  My son is currently a senior in HS (joined last summer at 17) and is scheduled to leave for boot camp after graduation on June 14th.  I'm excited I found this site and all of the information available.

  • MamaCass

    Hello Everyone,

I can't believe we are finally here! My oldest son chose his rate and swore in yesterday. He will be leaving in just 6 weeks! We had our first meeting with a Navy recruiter in December of 2016. My son was 9 months away from his 18th Birthday. It has been a whole lot of hurry up and wait lol. I am so glad I found this group to help me prepare for his departure.

    hello all!

welcome mamacass and Trenee!!  good luck to your sons!!

  • horizon2018

My son left yesterday for BC!  We stayed the night in Dallas so we would be able to arrive at MEPS early and watch him swear in, and see him on his way.  And proud that I held it together. Somewhere on here they mentioned not losing it in front of the recruits.  You want to send them on with happy and proud thoughts.  Not that there weren't a few tears.  I was bursting with pride and feeling somewhat broken hearted at the same.

  • Phoenixmom

Ladies welcome to the site, and best wishes to your loved ones.

  • Grammy80

We (his Parents, Sister, and Aunt) saw my Grandson off to BC today! What a proud moment! He's been excited and waiting for this phase of his life for a while now! I'm so Blessed to be on this journey with them!

  • Phoenixmom

  • Army/Navy

I believe my recruit IS AN OFFICIAL S RECRUIT by this point. I can't reach him by phone. He stayed last night in San marcis and git up at 4 am to go to Meps I thgt...bit doesn't he still have his phone? I realize hes super busy but does anyine know what hapoens now? A plane to great lakes?

  • Ms_Pink

    Hey Ladies,

My Fiancé leaves for BC on the 4th of April. Any ideas on when we can find out Graduation dates so that I can book hotel/flights ?

    Thanks :)

  • Phoenixmom

Hi Ms _Caylin welcome to Navy Moms, here is how you can figure his grad day until you get the form letter with that information. To guesstimate the PIR date, count 9 Fridays after your recruit arrived to get the most likely PIR (graduation) date,  Also some site that will have great info and will give more insite as to and how things work.

  • Phoenixmom

Army/Navy at MEPS they will have a Ceremony for swearing in everyone in one room swearing in at the same time. Once over you can continue taking pictures, those inside of swearing in can video tape it. then once done they wait to be transported to airport and wait on their flight, once they get to airport in chicago a bus will be waiting on them to take them to BC. those that took phones will need to send them home in the box with there shoes and clothes.

  • Son#2

    hello all!!

welcome Caylin!   good luck to your fiance!

  • blackbirdmom

I would not advise booking anything that can't be changed or refunded until well after you get the form letter. While 9 Fridays is the approximate date, your fiance could end up in a push division, which means he would graduate 8 Fridays after he arrives. Or if something happens and he is pushed back a week, 10 Fridays later. There is lots of information on Girlfriends/Fiances/Wives group or even Boot Camp Moms (even though you're not a mom, those ladies know everything there is to know about boot camp in that group so it's worth joining.)  Good luck to your fiance! Our sailor graduated a year ago this weekend.

  • DomsMom

hellamcc,  we weren't waiting for for over a year but my son did wait for almost a year. It took forever for his clearance to come through. He also had no record whatsoever and had never been in trouble. But his dad was born in Mexico. Although my son was born here and I was born here. I think when someone in the family is born in another place the clearance takes longer to go through. At least that is what we were told.

Prayers that his clearance comes through soon for you guys

  • DomsMom

My son is now in boot camp and he will graduate in two weeks and he is an E3 level  and in route for the nuke program. So I know it takes forever for some more than others, but prayers going out for you and your family that things will progress more quickly

  • Bandmom

Ms Caylin, if you are planning on booking a flight before you get your form letter, I would book with South West.  They will let you change your flight without a penalty.  You just have to pay the difference in price of the flight.

  • Ms_Pink

I think I'm just going to wait until I get the form letter.

I got my one phone call late last night

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Ladies, hope all is well this Thursday Morning, Wishing all your Loved One's the best in this Journey they are about to take, Glad to have you along!

  • Son#2

    hello all!!

Good day to all and may God bless you with a peaceful and wonderful day!

pink--glad you got your call!!! good luck to your SR!

  • NavyMomFHAL18

My son will be arriving at MEPS on Sunday and flying to BC on Monday. I will not be able to make it to MEPS for the swearing in. His aunt lives in the same city as MEPS. I understand that they will probably not be given flight information until they get to MEPS, right? How can we find out the time for the swearing in? His aunt was hoping to see him off from the airport or go to the swearing in if possible, but I do not know how to get the information to give to her.
