don't insure it-at least if he is on a base! If you do he will have to sign for it and that means at least on a base they to go to the post office to get it...I learned that the hard way...it has taken him forever to get his packages cause he is always on duty or working when the post office is open...is it the same way on a ship?
Halee update @ RTC---STILL THERE! She has now spent her b-day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Years at boot camp when she should have PIR'd on 11/5/10.
Halee had her cast removed after 8 weeks--finally! She now has a walking boot but still has to use crutches. Follows up with the ortho dr. @ the end of the month.
Also following up on her gallbladder issues--they sent her to Milwaukee for an ERCP with a GI specialist! She tolerated everything well & the Dr. himself called me afterwards with her status. She went back to RTC that same night. she follows up with him again in February.
She received many cards over the holidays--a from the classroom of kids too! Thank you everyone! It made everyones day--they shared them with everyone to read! She sent them all home to me--I'm going to put them all in a scrapbook for her.
She was given the Yeoman book to study--so no matter what happens--she's definitely being groomed for duty!
She see's & hears a lot of people getting Med-out and it worries her--but she knows that her path will lead her to where she belongs.
Just wanted to thank everyone again for their prayers & cards to Halee. She truly appreciated them as did I.
Her roommate from the VA & a couple other girls that have joined them all for lack of a better word--hang out together. They all do therapy at different times and Halee really can't wait to loose the crutches!
With Halee @ RTC, and my eldest daughter traveling to Singapore (hubby's work) with my granddaughter Amelia--they arrived safely. So I spend my time SKYPING in the evening with them--they are 13 hours ahead of me!
But wanted to say thank you ladies --because you helped me all through a really tough time and words don't say enough!
Will post again when I know anything knew about her status --hopefully it'll be her moving along to A-school! :-)

Hi, I mail a lot to FPO, I mail everything from food to clothes to digital items, I have never had any problems, it takes around three weeks to get to Stephen and maybe 3-4 weeks when I have mailed it out to the ship. Hope that helps.

@Annie did you eat at Bucks Saturday??? My husand loves the fish, whenever they have nachos either chicken or steak you have to try them they are the best I have ever had. We always fill up on them and then can't finish my dinner, I need to order them as my dinner...LOL
Cathy that sounds very exciting for Steph, it sounds like she is really enjoying herself. There are so many jobs being an IT, my son was telling me the other day about all the jobs, he is an IT also. I hear you about being sick, I am ready to get rid of this cold, glad everyone is staring to feel better at your house.
Hello all...no colds on my end (fingers crossed) but my Grandpa was in ICU all weekend and it was just my sister and I with him most of time. Very draining. I collapsed yesterday after he got a pacemaker.

Hi Everybody, The boxes finally arrived for the packing party....little glitch with the post office! Finally talked to a live person on Fri. so now another 100 boxes will arrive at my doorstep this Fri. Gotta love it! Wait until you see the sign that Lauren made.....outstanding!! Here it is. We love the food but the service was getting so bad we stopped going about a month ago. I think the owner was on vacation because when she is there we never had a problem.
I am ready to give it another try though cause I miss the place. The food is good and the people are real nice. We used to go every Saturday so I miss the place already.
That is one thing I want to do before Stephen gets out of the Navy I want to see a ship come in with all the men and women standing on the outline of the ship, that would be so awesome. I know some of you have seen that.
Please pray for a friend of Stephen's who lost his life in Italy, he was a sailor. He is home in Florida and the wake is today and the funeral is tomorrow. Stephen is having a very hard time with this. I had to talk him out of getting on a plan and going to Florida, Navy would not pay and he has a terrible head cold. We called TJ mom yesterday and talked with her and that made Stephen feel a little better, so please just keep them in your prays. thanks!

So here was my day yesterday...btw...as you read please know my kids are physically okay and don't facebook me about this cause they have yet to directly post anything about it on facebook.
(this is the abridged version)Yesterday morning(saturday) at 1:00 am I got a call that my kids (son and significant other girlfriend of 4 years) woke up to guns in their faces and masked man in their house. My son was beaten up pretty bad and she sustained minor cuts and bruises. We spent the early morning hours in the ER but he is okay - no broken bones, no internal bleeding, just a concussion and lots of bruises that we are monitoring.
Yesterday I was in "mom" mode and a bit shock. Not sure what today holds as they completely trashed/ransacked their house and we need to start dealing with that and other issues. The most important thing is they are alive and safe.
Coco-So sorry to hear about the events of the past weekend. While terrifying, I am glad that they are all right. I can't imagine the shock and fear. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
OMG CoCo I just checked in and I am so very sorry about what happened to your son and his girlfriend and so releived that that are alive. I am speechless and my heart goes out to you all. I hope some where they find a clue and get who did this. Some times I sit back too comfortable in my suburban home and forget how cruel and dangerous this world can be.
Keep us updated let us know if they need any help getting back on there feet such as donations. Not sure how much they lost and I know it is hard enough for kids starting off these days. Thank God they are alive.
Thanks guys! This one is really rough. The kids are so sad and there is nothing I can do or say to make it better. I finished moving Grandpas stuff yesterday so now on to getting the kids and the stuff that is left out by Monday. Their landlord has given them 7 days to move out with no consequences and they will get their security deposit back.
That is good they can move out and get everything back. Well they have to try to foeget what happen to them and try to move on. You know things like that happen all the time but when it happens to someone your know it is hard and you are right we live in a bad world with crazy people.
Saturday February 5 - anytime after 3 or 4...email me and I will send you there address. By then I will need numerous drinks...sigh. Haven't figured out food yet will let you all know by this weekend and open for suggestions if people want to bring things.
okay i have looked and looked for places to live near the Gl base... does anyone know of a good apartment complex in that area im willing to go as far south as highland park....
