    Happy Friday!

"For You, Lord, have made me glad

through Your work; I will triumph

in the works of Your hands."

                                         Psalm 92:4

  • Freedock7

Where do we find the information on the meet and greet?  Are we suppose to make centerpieces?  I would love to make some, but not sure.  Thanks

  • diannep

Freedock:  Here is Sarge's MeetandGreet info:

    http://navyformoms.com/events/pir-04-04-14-sarge-s-meet-and-greet

People sometimes makes baskets to raffle off at his MeetandGreet to raise money for him/his wife.  They finance the weekly MeetandGreets themselves and appreciate any donations anyone wants to give!  Many will make a "state" basket, but it is really up to you what you may want to make if you want to participate!  Not required....the MeetandGreet is a free event to all.

    Good Morning All !

  • HollySue

We were so blessed to hear from our SR three weekend in a row during his first weeks at boot camp. Last weekend no call. Question for veteran moms: is it typical for calls to be cut back?
  • diannep

HollySue:  Calls are so very random.  They may tell you that they have a "scheduled" call on a certain date, and then not call.  They can lose them for many things, and earn them for many things too.  It is best to have no expectations on the calls, but keep the phone close at all times....even when stepping out to get the mail or in the bathroom!  Also, a SR can miss a division call if on watch, SIQ or at an appt on base, etc.  So if you see that a your SR's division is calling, but you don't hear from your SR, that could be why.

Good Morning all!  I wanted to share some information that I found while trying to get some info to my son.  My hope is that no one as to do this but in reality, we may from time to time have to get sad news to our Sailors.  If you call the Red Cross they get info to the Commanding Officer who shares the info with the sailor.  We did not want to go this route when we had to share with our SR that his Grandmother passed away a couple of weeks ago.  Instead, after many phone calls I finally got the number for "Chaplain Care Messages".  Come to find out, this department takes care of a number of other things such as medical, financial.  Worth looking into and saving the number!   They call themselves Navy 311.  When I called and went through the prompts to reach the Chaplain I was connected to a very helpful gentleman that took my information and what our need was.  Ultimately, we made arrangements for the Chaplain to break the news to our son after Battle Stations (coming up in a couple of weeks).  He then put in a request for our son to be allowed to call us.  It was a good experience and I am hopeful that my son takes the news well from the Chaplain.  If you are in need of such service you can reach Navy 311 at 877-418-6824.

    Hi Friends,

"I will lie down and sleep in peace,

for You alone, O Lord, make

          me dwell in safety."

                                         Psalm 4:8

  • CatMom509

    MomTut,

This sounds like a very sensitive way to have the news given to your SR.  Please let us know how it turns out~~

  • diannep

Ladies, below is the link to a video about a sailor named Brett Parks.  Brett's grandparents are my parents' best friends, his mom is one of my best friends, her children are great friends of my sons....we have a connection that has spanned between our families over 70 yrs.  He is the one who influenced by son to go into the Navy...he went in a year before my son....Brett is in the aviation program and is based in Jacksonville FL...he was about to start the process of discharge since his contract was complete....when.....this happened.  A personal trainer on the side, he ran a bootcamp in the community.  He was at an apt complex, meeting up with a new client, when he heard screams for help.  Ever the sailor, always ready to help in any given situation, he ran towards the sound of the voice, right into the attacker....who proceeded to shoot him....Oct 17, 2012...his life changed forever.  He recently was honored by U of Florida Shands Hospital, and this is the video shown that night....I know it is about 15 min long...but I will tell you....it is well worth watching.  I have had the privilege of watching Brett grow up....I was with his mom/family every step of this tragic story...just like his precious mom was with me every step when my husband died suddenly 11 yrs earlier.  Brett exemplifies what your SRs are made of....the "hero" in him.  Let me know what you think of this:

Wow, what an amazing story. I know someone who was running a 5 k race and had a heart attack. The person performing CPR turned out to be a cardiologist for the Cleveland clinic. I believe we all have an angel looking out for us. So our Sr's as well as us are in good hands.

  • diannep

AMEN, SorinMom!  He has started a ministry as a result of this.  He was a Christian before, but life/death experiences like his can greatly enhance one's faith!

So true, tammy.  There are so many amazing stories out there.  One of my Navy Mom friends told me of a friend in their church, works for Delta, was near an airplane tire that was over inflated accidentally by a co worker and he didn't know, it exploded, took one arm and both legs off.  Married with 2 small children.  The amazing part?  He is from Rwanda, lost his entire family in the war there, is a devout Christian, and is still singing the Lord's praises as he recovers....his faith is amazing!  He didn't even want to name the co worker who caused this because he didn't want to get him in trouble....what a heart this man has!  His name is Eric if anyone wants to keep him and his family in their prayers.  This just happened to him about 3 weeks ago.  Thanks!

    Hello All~~

"Your words were found, and I ate them,

and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing

of my heart; for I am called by Your name,

          O Lord God of hosts."

                                                  Jeremiah 15:16

  • Natalia

Thank you, CatMom509. I am sorry, but what amount is ok?
  • diannep

Natalia:  The amount of money you may want to donate at Sarge's MeetandGreet is totally up to you!  He appreciates whatever anyone wants to donate, and of course, it is not required to attend the MeetandGreet.

  • Natalia

    Thank you
  • J-04/128

  • CatMom509

    Friends,

This scripture is so appropriate for the Battlestations that your SRs will be going through soon.  Perhaps you can share it with your SR in a letter now.

           "Fear not, for I have redeemed you;

I have summoned you by name;  you are mine.

            When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

and when you pass through the rivers,

they will not sweep over you.

When you walk through the fire,

you will not be burned; the flames

will not set you ablaze.  For I am the Lord,

your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior..."

                                                          Isaiah 43:1b-3a

  • CatMom509
