    Hello fellow Navy Moms!

My sailor is heading to Japan soon for deployment. I thought joining this group might be helpful for me to learn more about the experience. It is his first deployment.

    Thanks!

    HI Cocacola451

    Welcome aboard.

My son was there for two deployments.  Now I have my step granddaughter there too.  Japan is lovely, Your sailor will have some classes on the do's and don'ts of the culture

I will ask if your sailor has his/her passport. If not please help them get one. The reason is, if for some reason your sailor has to fly out from another country on his tour  - not always does the military pass work.  Also, don't be surprised not to hear from your sailor, they will be busy getting settled in - classes and getting their APO FPO address. Your post office will have the boxes for you to get and the forms to fill out. It really is not hard to fill out the forms.  ANd when you get those boxes _ FILL them up.

Not sure if itis the same now - but my sailor purchased a new cell phone in Japan with their programs. Not all the USA cell phone companies have good deals for international calls. My sailor was able to contact his cell phone company in teh states - and get a hold placed on it. He showed he was in the military and overseas. That way - no charges / fees were applies. It just waited for him to reactivate.

Hope this helps. And I hope some of the other Pan Moms come on and chat . I'll explain Pan Moms to you later.  Its a sweet story.

    Take care

Sorry it took so long for me to answer - I am recovering form knee surgery.

    • HI All
    • I hit the wrong key and I have these bullet points.
    • I was not meaning to have it look like an lecture - oh well.
    • I have to share, remember when I stated I had sent a Christmas package to my granddaughter in Japan. And that I forgot to add the unit #.  Then it could not be dropped off. so Japan post office mailed it back. On a boat! It was suppose to take 3 months to get here. HAHA it took 6 months!  It arrived - beaten up - cut open a the ends  and retaped. But ALL gifts were there!!!!  So test my granddaughter and will mail it again - after the ship is back in port  6 to 8 months from now. Oh well, she will get it. making darn sure I have the correct address this time.
