Kim, I hope your family gets to the bottom of your family tragedy/mystery. The loss is difficult enough without the shroud of suspicion surrounding it. Aunti M, I feel almost silly asking about the taxes when there are more somber events to deal with. However, thank you for advice. My Sailor told me yesterday that he’s already gotten his refund! Thank you again for advice.
Agree with the team, seems having a car might be more of a hassle. We visited for a week and the transit system got us everywhere we were not able to walk to! My son said, buy a cheap bike, but expensive lock!
Kim - gentle hugs. Please keep us informed if your sailor can get home.
My sailor had a car this second tour. It came with the apartment he was renting and parking spot too. So when he returns to the USA - he will sell that car with the apartment. He did say he had to get use the wrong side of the road.
Wishing all to stay warm. Its going to be a cold snap here. But its like this in March for us. - A tease of warm weather and then right before Spring - we get it again.
It's been awhile, but I follow. My son had his nice bike stolen (on base) within a week after he arrived. He had a nice cable lock, but don't know the story. So a cheap bike and nice lock are certainly the way to go!! He now walks and takes the train in bad weather...loves it.
the best part is my daughter and I are going to see him in 3 weeks!!! The countdown is realistic now, lol.
My hugs and prayers are to all who have lost loved ones, expecting new arrivals and to just maintain! I feel so lucky having my boring life after reading about so much heartache y'all have gone thru. God will get us thru anything, after all we are Navy Moms (et al).
Thanks for the support we all give to one another. I'm hoping to get to the NorthEast at so me point (Boston, Maine areas) so maybe I'll get to meet some of you if it works out!
My birthday present to myself. Just placed in yesterday. A pink flamingo on my new crown. If I break one again - I think I will have a palm tree placed on that one.
Keep taking pictures of nature. You are so talented. And those pictures are so healing for us. Hopefully you feel that too. Hey how is Angel? Shark is on her walk abouts now. And now stop eating. Must being trying to get back her girlish figure to get in her bikini. Right now she is starting out the patio door. Nnno she does not like being outside - just wants me to open the door to smell the air. Problem - its still too cold. Only 36 degrees. So she is mad at me.
Hey - good news. I will finally close on the house I was deeded on March 29th, 2019. Finally I will cross that finish line. It has taken 6 years and 6 months - to the day! - cross that finish line. I am celebrating with chocolate cake and buying me some quick pick lotto tickets!
Wish all a good day - sorry this is choppy - have to get ready to chase cub scouts.
Good afternoon ladies! Thanks for letting me join the group! My question is, my son is leaving for Japan on Monday. We have T-Mobile for our phone carrier, upon investing I have learned that it has no international calling so what is the best way to go as far as phones go?? I’m so confused!!
We have T Mobile, my son could text us for free, but purchased another phone there for calling, but mostly he Facebook messaged us due to the time difference.
Our son took his cell phone with him so he could call to let us know he arrived. He did purchase a new cell phone there which he used the three years he was there. When he came home he switched the sim card to use in the USA. Now that he is being deployed I am not sure what he will do. It will be a new adventure.
Sprint has a add on for $5 lots of people have. But most here get a Japanese phone and number when arriving. Soft bank is on base but more and more people are avoiding them. We have AU and never have service problems like the soft bank people have. Also Google Fi is an option now but those phone must be received in the states or like we did ship them to someone int he states and then have them sent over. We have US phone nu. Bers that way although my family still uses messenger to call most of the time.
my son has been in Japan for three years. He changed to the google fi phones. He loves it. He saids he gets internet everywhere especially when he is underway.
Hi. Quick note (I hope to get more active here because all the Moms seem wonderful, but after 14 hours a day on a computer for work, I try to stay away).
I dealt with this question a year ago, but after my son had just arrived in Japan. We ended up getting Sprint (I had to ship him a phone) because of the Japan plan. He says it works really well and would recommend it: "It works good and the price is better than the local companies who often forget to auto bill and people get their service shut off. It also works in Guam unlike Japanese phones and the Japan plan was valid in Hong Kong too. I would just recommend setting it up before they leave, that was the only annoying part."
Good luck. It's tough to see them go, but they are in good hands and the chatter in this group really helps. Thanks, ladies!
Thanks proudmom, for now we switched to the T-Mobile military plan and just hope it works out! He is leaving tomorrow and I just read the information packet he got and that is kind of freaking me out. There is so much information he needs to know! Yikes just getting through the airport, I’m so nervous for him but I’m sure it will all work out! Do your children like Japan??
Hi BusyBee. My son is in Yokosuka. I guess he likes what he has been able to see of Japan, but he has been out to sea most of the past year. They get to Guam often, and got to spend a little time in Hong Kong last fall. I know it all seems like a lot when they first leave, but you will relax a little after he is there and settled. We Skype whenever we can, even when they are on the ship at sea. I just send a message whenever I have a question, and he eventually gets back to me. Just following this group and knowing you are one of many moms is going to make you feel better once he is there.
Morning Ladies, seems like forever since I've been on here. Been trying to keep up with the chatter but too busy to reply. Between our health issues, family, weather and work it's been a struggle. Still in the 20's by night and wind chills in the teens. Last Friday we had a snow squall by lunch time hail squall and ended with rain. So old man Winter is not giving up easily.
Count down is on for our trip to VA. Our little Princess is growing up way to quickly!!! I'll try to add pictures soon. you won't believe how tall and grown up Connor is. And Baby M is treating Mama well. Starting to plan the showers and arrival. I'm sure the parents are excited but we wonder if it is anywhere close to our anxiety! Nana & Papa is trying not to worry and praying constantly but....can't wait to have it all over and baby in our arms! It's been a long, hard road. I know that probably doesn't sound fair, I trust you not to judge me. :) It's just you never quit worrying about your kids and I worry about my daughter's health and sanity. Watching my niece and nephew hanging on to Tyler is heart wrenching. I pray we are not put to the test....
Oh well as usual work is getting overwhelming gotta go. HUGS to all. Praying for all our "kids" and the Military as a whole.
Adorable pictures Blondie! Thanks for the info Proudmom, sent him off on Monday and he arrived in Japan last night. Glad he made it ok and now I just hope he enjoys his time there! He texted me this morning that he will be super busy and probably won’t be taking to me for a while. He is also in Yokosuka.
BusyBee, thanks for letting us know he arrived safely. My Daughter LOVED Yokosuka Japan. There is so much for them to learn, they do stay Very busy. I just kept leaving encouraging e-mail and texts for her, just so she KNEW I was thinking of her. lol My daughter was there for 3 years, so we went to visit. A Beautiful place, Very Clean and Friendly.
Oh that beautiful RED hair!!!!!!! I so want to hug her. Blondie give her an extra hug from me please.
I am with Blondie - Busy Bee. Thank you for letting us know your son arrived safe and sound. I too wish for him to have a wonderful time. And for you, just hang on and come here to chat. Honest, we all here know that Emotional Roller Coaster ride and we are beside you. Gentle hugs.
Well, my family emotional roller coaster ride is about to stop. It took 6 years and 6 months to the day! But I close on the house tomorrow at 11:30 AM. (9-29-2012 to 3-29-2019) Now I can move on and I wish the same for other family members who do not claim me as family anymore. that's ok, time to move on in peace. So I ask all to raise a toast of joy. Completion of a long hurtful roller coaster ride is over and now I can move. thank you all for being here for me to complain to.
Need to get along - have to finish the paper work and find time to to some beading . hugs all
So glad to hear that your children love Japan! Yes I did jump out of my skin when my phone rang at 3:30 this morning!! Was so glad we got a little FaceTime together but we might have to work on the time difference! Lol!! He sounded a little overwhelmed and said he had so much stuff to do! Told him to take it one day at a time and everything will work out!
Her hair is truly Really, Really Red! I'll have to post some more (darn. LOL) Always looking for reasons to get another squeeze in. :)
Glad it will be signed and over! You deserve a little Peace. Love your attitude, walk away for your own well being. You have YOUR family, your kids and grandkids....and Us of course. HUGS Cheers
BusyBee so true, we just KNOW it's them calling. the time difference is a nuisance But who cares call me anytime! Good advice (for all of us) way to keep your cool and lend encouragement. Most the time they just want to vent (like us) they don't need us to solve their problems, just Listen.
She is beautiful !!!! And she loves jewelry I see.
But I could not tell if her eyes are green or blue? Which?
Thank you Blondie - yes - it is over. My words when I got the check was, " my Mom now can rest". I didn't realize I even said it out loud. Now my childhood home can be a home again and happy.
Blondie is right BusyBee - those calls we get is mostly venting. Be ready to have glue on hand to glue your ear back on at times. And you will know when you need to send a "Care Package" That package needs to be filled with silly things of home. Just to make them smile and calm down a bit. You will get the hang of it. And when you need to vent - come here. We all have glue ready.
Yes, a discount sounds great! Any ideas of a great plumber Lauren? And do we all want red or white ? Sweet or Sassy?
Hey- its April Fools Day and a Monday. Can't get more fool hardy. But hope all have a great day.. My day has already started to be one. Hubby called - he found that my radiator has a leak. And I just made an appointment to have other things fixed. What's one more - right? Here are my thoughts - no - can't say that. I would be kicked off.
My son started the journey to Japan this morning. I am surprised at how hard it was to say goodbye to him! I am happy to see that this forum is here as a source of support.
I have been reading but have not been posting much here lately. It seems that life is just always very busy. But I would like to ask that each of you please pray for my family. A week ago (April 6) we lost my oldest nephew in a car accident. My sister went back to work yesterday. She has been having a really hard time. I hope that going back to work will help in some small way. Please pray for my sister as well as all of the family. My nephew's funeral was on Tuesday, and late that afternoon, my oldest sister (another one, I have 3) carried her middle son to drug rehab. Please pray for this sister and brother-in-law and my nephew. He really needs help.
We are also in the process of going through all of the stuff in my Mom's house (she is in an assisted care facility), and getting the house ready to sell. This is just far more emotional than I ever dreamed. The good part is this was Mom's decision, and she goes with us every time we go to her house.
This past Sunday night we got a call that my only living Aunt on my Dad's side of the family passed away. She was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in late February. I know that each of you have things going on your lives, but prayers sure would be appreciated. We are all trying to just take all of this one day at the time, and we sure have felt the Lord's peace, comfort and love. I know he will see us through each thing that comes our way, but that is not to say that sometimes life just gets tough.
Nofonavymom my son left at the end of March. I miss that kid so much! He seems to be doing ok. Hated it at first now seems to be adjusting. He mov d onto his ship this week and again went through the I hate this stage lol. He always needs some time to adjust like all of us! Just trying to get used to this empty nest is hard but let me my son I will adjust! Wishing all our group a Happy Easter as we miss our children on the holiday.
Gentle hugs Miss and sending Reiki healing energy to you and your family. If you need an ear to vent to you - I have two ready to listen. Hugs.
Hugs Kim
You sailor will do fine. I think it is harder on us than our sailors. All we can do is listen - but honest that is the best thing they need. And a care package from home.
Sorry I have been away so long. As Miss stated - busy!
First - at work we have had several staff quit. So this is putting my work on the five of us left.
Second the weather is so weird and this plays into ones emotions. Spring - back to Winter - Spring - now jumping to 80's today!
Then my hubby lost his job on the 15th. the company he worked for was sold. The new owners do not want an airplane or the airplane shop - so no job. Over 30 years too. WE are OK! Working on a plan and we are going to be ok.
But great news !!! I am a YaYa again !!!!
Emma rose Serrano arrived Sunday morning - c section.
19 inches long 5 pounds 11 0z and all attitude!
She does have some of the traits for Tunrers Disease BUT that is all. Everythign else about her is perfect !!!! Test came back saying perfect! So she is just tiny - Tinker Bell tiny.
She is home now - and naturally has her Daddy and Papa wrapped around her little finger. Her big brother is always right there to love her and help her if he can. Mommy and Yaya just relax and know when she really needs something.
WE had taken Riker to meet the Easter Bunny. As we were waiting for his turn for a picture - the call came that she had arrived. So Riker grabbed my phone to show the Easter Bunny. The lady taking the picture helped Riker to have his baby sister in the photo too. Maybe you can see her in the phone.

Welcome new moms. Your sailor is fortunate to have an overseas assignment and is in for an adventure.

Wish all great weekend hugs
