    Terri,
The logo is awesome. Showed it to my daughter and she loved it.
She is so excited about being the first ship to receive blankets!! I could use some yarn if you have it... I have not received any as of this date. I've been trying to scrap some up but not very lucky. I would really like to make a couple of blankets.. I have the time and am willing... just need supplies
  • CarolJ * Courtney's Mom *

    Terri,
It's sad but I can totally related to the stairs thing!! :) Done it to many times to remember!! LOL ! So it's nice to see i'm not the only clumsy Navy Mom!!

Hi All, I'm so glad I've found this group. I just did a blanket for my son to take back to his sub. I also made one for his best friend. I was going to make the double side fleece blanket, but he asked me to only do one layer instead. He said that it is too warm on the subs for two layers. Also, the fringe is a problem, he didn't say why. So I took the fleece and put a binding around the single layer. Before I forget, JoAnn fabrics has a US Navy patterned fleece. My son loved it, even though it didn't have a submarine on it.
  • Anita B. (Josh's Mom)

Hi Lyn...I also have used the US Navy patterned fleece I bought at WalMart for $9.22 per pattern. I've made 13 and have given them to my son for use on the ship and also to his friends. They are very nice and not overly warm and bulky. I just turned the edges over 1/4 inch and sewed with the zigzag stitch and they finish up in very little time. My 9 month old grandson has one also and loves to cuddle up with it.
  • LLovesmysailor

I have a beautiful embroidery machine. One of the patterns available to me is a group of Navy emblems. One is a white circle that says United States Navy, another is a similar emblem done in blue and finally "Navy" in red, white and blue. If anyone would like something embroidered, let me know. You could send whatever it is to me. I'm not interested in charging fellow Navy Moms or sailors. Just send me enough for return postage, if you can.
  • LLovesmysailor

Ken's Mom, I sew but don't quilt very much. Perhaps we could work on one together. If you sent me the fabric you want to use, I could embroider something for the centers of the squares. Add me to your friends page and I'll send you my address.

  • LLovesmysailor

Jackie, The best way to sew the granny squares together is to just crotchet them together. Put two squares with right sides together. Then use a crotchet to pull yarn through to matching spaces. when you get to the end knot off each two squares and continue til they are all sewn together. I hope that makes sense to you. It really is easy.
  • lauren

Is it hard to make granny squares? I think they look so cool...
  • LLovesmysailor

Lauren, I think that granny squares are the easiest to make. They look nice whether they are in a single color or multiple colors.
  • lauren

Debbie those are beautiful........someone is very blessed to recieve them
Kathy i think I'm going to try to find someone around here to teach how to make Granny Squares .....maybe even a how to do a couple of "real" stiches.
    Grannies aren't knitted are they?
  • lauren

anybody hear form Terri in the past couple of days???
I think she'll be excited about s being up to 72............woohoo

  • LLovesmysailor

We are in the process of moving. Not a great time to be trying to sell this house, but I have been finding things I had no idea were still around. Amoung them were a couple of very ( and I do mean very) old afgan patterns. They are crotchet patterns and look easy to do. So if anyone is interested, I will try to figure out how to scan these patterns. Or maybe just bug my husband to scan them.
  • lauren

How cool I just used it and it works.....this is great Terri now I can just tranfer money this way( hope I get alot donated soon)............but girl you keep making me change my flyer............lol

Joyce FYI The last box I sent to Terri I put each blanket in a plastic bag and sucked the air out of it and was able to use a smaller box
  • lauren

Terri it is sure a good thing that we found you ......i was thinking that i was going to hve to stuff myself in a plastic bag....suck the air out ....have my son ship me to OR to see what in the world is going on ...............and if you think the blankets looked funny with the air sucked out........well LOL
  • lauren

HI evr1 hope the weekend is starting of good... Kathy a couple of weeks ago my right elbow was hurting and i swear it was crochet elbow....lol

I have a cat a dog and three snakes.........and because i have an eighteen year old still at home and have a very small home along with the animals most times a house full of teenagers.........and wouldn't change it for anything
Well back to the homework or blanket.........lol have a great day
  • lauren

OK NOW WHAT DO I DO
I was just on angelicrafts.com to order some yarn and they have closed down their store........HELP!!! Where is there to buy cheap yarn and help out there????
  • Anita B. (Josh's Mom)

I have problems with my right shoulder and muscle above the elbow when I have been crocheting for awhile. I usually try to get a good movie on to be able to "work thru the pain" and don't notice it until I go to bed. If it's too bad I take a tylenol PM. The "pain" doesn't keep me from crocheting tho'.
  • LLovesmysailor

I know you have probably answered this before, but how do I make out the check to help with shipping.
  • CarolJ * Courtney's Mom *

This may be a really crazy idea, but I thought I would post it anyway.. here it goes.... What if we could do something like a relay with the blankets. It starts out at Terri's house, then someone coming east or going west ( wherever they are going to meet ships) picks up the blankets and meets someone else. I know when my daughter is in port her or Myself go down to norfolk once a week or every other week. I travel alot and would be willing to be in on this.... I don't know if it would work but it sure would save on shipping cost. Not sure if you guys can understand exactly what I am trying to convey but like I said it's just a suggestion. With all the traveling to PIR and such it might just work. What'd ya think?
  • lauren

well I"m in illinois and I'm up for a road trip every now and then
  • LLovesmysailor

I mailed off a box of blankets this afternoon. There is also an envelope with a check to help with the shipping costs. I've got my yarn to start an afgan while I watch the Super Bowl.
  • lauren

Well Kathy yarn so excites me and I'm sure many others. Some people don't know how wonderful it feels to do for others.
Kathy you'll have to post us one of your pics can't wait to see it.
You are all so Awesome you inspire me
  • lauren

LOL Debbie you are in my prayers, as all others are, this is truly a hard time for so many. As far as the house goes well I'm right there with you, I had surgery a couple of weeks ago and will be off my feet for a couple more weeks...........and my 18 yr old is in charge of the house........i'm sure is will be ok though right????.....LOL
  • LLovesmysailor

Hi Debbie. I know how your husband feels. I lost my job a few weeks ago. Although it was only a job to get me out of the house, it is still an unpleasant feeling. I keep expecting to get up and go to work, but the alarm doesn't go off in the morning. I'll keep you both in my thoughts. .... For now, I'm keeping busy getting the house ready to sell. I had no idea there were so many nooks and corners that needed to be cleared out and cleaned.
  • LLovesmysailor

I have just finished patiently explaining to my husband that I am not packing up my yarn and putting it into storage. If the real estate agent has a problem with a basket of yarn in the family room, then I'll find another agent. I have to have something to keep my busy. After all, I have agreed to pack up most of my sewing room and return it to a bed room. I hope this house sells soon. I don't know how long I can live without my sewing machines?????? Its so good to have people who understand......
  • LLovesmysailor

Debbie, WOW, what a wonderful opportunity for him. Japan is a great chance to see the world and the GW will make ports all over the pacific. My son is on a sub and will hopefully get to see some of Europe in the next year. I would start dropping hints about fabric and yarn from Japan and China. LOL

    Hello ladies!

I had to pull the information about sending $ for donations off the group info. You can post this information on your personal pages, but unfortunately it's against community guidelines to post it anywhere else.

I think this is a great project and I'm looking forward to reading more about your efforts!
