My son is on the USS San Diego LPD22.  He is attached to  Beach master unit 1.  He is part of an LCAC crew.  what does your son do?  No emails from him lately.

  • Up&Down

    k12kau.....

I haven't heard from my son lately, too.  A brief email several weeks ago saying that he was fine and very busy.

He is part of the Maritime Raid Force (MRF)....works with the Marines.

Some happy news -  Sailors and Marines deployed during the holidays will receive free $10 phone cards.  From navy.mil:

    VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Hello,

My son is deploying soon. He is LCAC crew at Little Creek. It is his first deployment. Needless to say, I am pretty anxious about this. It's nice to connect with you all since you know what it's like.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Welcome!  Watching the LCACs roar out of Little Creek is an impressive sight, not to mention the sound :)   When he's not deployed (and the weather's warm!) the beach at the Little Creek base is great.  Here's another good group for getting together with other deployment moms:  http://navyformoms.com/group/carepackageideas

  • Forever proud

Proudkmom welcome! My son just got back from deployment. His ship carries LCACs and I got a chance to ride one! The Tiger Cruise (family and friends can join the ship for the last couple of days of the deployment) participants were transported to the ship via LCAC and it has to be one of the top 5 experiences of my life! Please let me know if I can help you deal with deployment. This was my son's first as well. (((NMH)))
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Forever proud, that is crazy cool!  My Tiger Cruise was cancelled b/c it was deemed too rough to take us out to the ship, so it was a sad bus ride for about 300 people back to Norfolk :(  I'm green with envy!!

  • CTmomof3

Hi Does anyone here have a sailor on the USS Anchorage?

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

CTMomof3 - hope you can find some USS Anchorage moms!  This story on Wednesday about the ship retrieving the Orion capsule is so cool!  http://www.adn.com/article/20141203/uss-anchorage-crew-retrieve-ori...

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

What a photo!  CTMomof3, is your sailor on USS Anchorage?

My son is on the Fort McHenry too :)
  • CTmomof3

He's will be reporting in May. Just got the official orders to a school in Pensacola first.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

This really is cool to watch!  A time-lapse video of USS Bataan moving from its home at Naval Station Norfolk into dry dock, first traveling up the Elizabeth River between Norfolk's Waterside and Portsmouth's Olde Towne.

    Yes!!! Let's rally together!!
  • HisMom

    Everyone okay?
  • Up&Down

Hello! I'm here HisMom!  Have you heard from your son this week?

So sad about the Marine accident in Hawaii.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Happy Saturday, Gator Moms!  Hopefully everyone gets to attend a homecoming  :)  Here's a great article about homecoming traditions, and an infographic too:  "Return to Homeport: U.S.Navy Homecoming Traditions"

  • HisMom

I have not heard from my son this week.  He is well though.  His girlfriend is on the Essex and I was sweatin it a bit but she is fine as well.

I am from Gettysburg PA where are you all from

  • HisMom

I wish I could find some moms close by to meet up and maybe do some constructive walking (lol)  walk and talk takes your mind off your woes, and the wrinkles outta yer butt.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Have you joined a group for your area?  We have a statewide group where we post upcoming plans.  Here in Phoenix we have an informal evening meetup for coffee the first Monday of every month at a grocery store coffee bar; and lunch get-togethers about every three months or so on a Saturday and usually get about 10 - 20 moms and we always try to get a group pic to post.  You just have to sort of plunge in and set something up!  :)  It builds if you're consistent, and ven if you only meet one other mom at first, it's a good thing.

    Nashville, Tennessee area!

  • Up&Down

Anchorage moms, I'm not included yet with getting information from our ship's ombudsman.  Is there any important news I should know?  If so, please send me a private message. Thanks.

  • CTmomof3

Up&Down. I see you're from Nashville area.  I'll be heading your way next weekend on the way to TX.  Did all the Anchorage moms see the FB pictures the ship posted yesterday?

  • Up&Down

CTmomof3....oh you are going to have a blast in Nashville but it has been so hot here!!!!  The humidity is so uncomfortable.

There's been lots of pictures this past week with the Anchorage.  I guess they were in a blackout the other two weeks.  We did hear from our son and he says that they've been busy.

I really need info to contact the ombudsman for the Anchorage.  I am getting no newsletters and feel so out of touch.  Can you or anyone else help me????? please

  • CTmomof3

Join the FB FRG page for the Anchorage

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/ussanchoragefrg/

The ombudsman posts on there and you can get hold of Tiffany Reynoso . you can also private mess if needed.  This is a closed group so do to security they will ask you your association with the Anchorage...no big deal.

Most post are for activities etc that go on in San Diego however you can post or ask anything..well within reason..lol

I'll only be in Nashville for a day as I'm on my way to TX. What's some highlights I should try to fit in? A couple tours I read that had good reviews don't operate on Sun or Mon..bummer.

  • CTmomof3

or friend her on the Ombudsman page

    https://www.facebook.com/lpd23ombudsman?fref=nf

  • Up&Down

CT thank you for the info.  My friend request is pending.

When in Nashville, of course you need to be on Broadway St and visit the Honkey Tonks.  I wasn't aware that tours don't operate on Sunday or Monday.  Did you try Nash Trash Tours?

The Gulch area is neat.  There's a great shop called Two Old HIppies to visit. Sambuca's restaurant in the Gulch is also good.

Acme Feed & Seed (bar & restaurant) on Broadway St is fun, too.

  • CTmomof3

Thanks so so much for the info.  No I didn't see the Nash Trash Tour.  I'll look into it. I tried the Music City Rollin and the Walkin Nashville.

Hi Oleander! My son is in Norfolk with an LHD. He has been with them just about a year and he is MM. What rate is your daughter?
  • Forever proud

Kimberly68 my son is with the Bataan LHD5. Unless you were near downtown Portsmouth, you may not have seen it as it is in drydock at the moment. They are HUGE ships! I did the Tiger Cruise last year and saw all of it up close and personal. What an amazing experience. I have no idea how they can go so long with so little privacy.
Oleander I'm not sure why your daughter would be assigned to a ship and not keep her with it. Are they just doing what are called "underways"? That is what they do for a time after undergoing an overhaul - just short periods at sea to test out their readiness to deploy. If I were you I would check Facebook to see if her ship has a page and you can follow all kinds of stuff they are doing. And don't worry - they won't post anything that violates OPSEC
  • MA4BLESSED

I am proud of our son starting his new journey in the U.S. Navy! I am anxious to learn everything I can about the Navy! I'm excited to be in all these groups to support each other as our Sailors are far from home. This is a journey for us all. Thank you..
  • Up&Down

Hi all you Moms I hope some of you can help me....

Are there any moms with sons that work with the Marines on a detachment?  My son works with Marines and is deployed right now....

I feel disconnected to the sailors & families that are working crew people on the ship and of course not part of the Marine family.

Am I alone?  Is it just me?  Advice please.

  • Forever proud

Up&Down - Is your son a Corpsman? There is another mom on here whose son is a Navy Corpsman and he deploys with Marines. Her screen name is TenneseeNavyMom. I don't know if she is part of this group, but I know she is on the EMPTYNESTERS page. Give her a shout - she is WONDERFUL
  • Up&Down

Thank you Forever proud!  I just friended TennNavyMom.

It took me awhile to find her but I did on the Emptynesters page.  We both live in Tennessee so we see what happens.

  • Forever proud

Up&Down that is great news. I am in Atlanta so we got our little southern thing going on. Lots of Navy Mom love to go around
