This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in May...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of May of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions
My son leaves for basic May 31st. I've read he should take his cellphone, he's been advised not to by his recruiter. Also, phone or no phone card ahead of time?
Welcome RIMom glad to have you along. Now to answer your question many do take their cell phone because they can call you when they land in GL. also they have no phones to allow them to call. Some are able to borrow one's phone to make the I'm here scripted call. They will have to send their Cell phone's back in the box with their belongings. Those that dont take their cell phone sometimes cannot make the I'm here call. here is the site for more info. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC

Calling cards if you will be sending one with him make sure it is activated, but they also can purchase one at the NEX. here is the site for more info to that. Phone Cards and Phone Calls. also you can put a book of stamps in his wallet to send out letters when that time comes. Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit. a small address book with numbers and addresses would be nice also. one that he can fit into his wallet or maybe on a piece of paper folded up. here is a site to read on before your Loved one leaves.
