I adore Kamakura, which is where you can see the Great Buddha. The Fleet and Family Service Center used to provide walking maps, but I don't know if they do in this day of apps.
So much good food! Everywhere, really hard to go wrong. I will be severely disappointed if you eat at the Chilis on base. Just don't. I can explain what the different Japanese foods are. When in doubt, find a place with the wax dishes on display, and point to what you want. Really easy.
I have had my tickets since October 2019 to go see my son in Misawa, was so looking forward to it. My husband tells me I cannot go with this virus pandemic right now. I was optimistically thinking it was far enough out (May 10, 2020) and it will be fine. Anybody else have a trip planned to Japan for spring?

We visited a shrine and Hiked to see a budha carved into the mountainside, I will see if my son can remember any of the names

Mikasa Park next to the base is a nice daytime break.

I also loved visiting Chinatown in Yokohama. It's Chinatown. In Japan.
