OCS Graduate Moms

For those who have graduated from Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI or who are currently attending there.

Does anyone have a loved one going through Navy OCS Class #10-22

Hi Everyone, My name is Jan. My daughter Molly is currently attending the OCS Class #10-22. Although we spent 24 years living an active duty military lifestyle, it was in the Air Force so I know very little about procedures of the Navy.

I am finding conflicting information regarding what we are able to include in care/candio boxes. Specifically whether non-perishable food can be included. It seems like things may change from class to class so I just don't know. I read the Candio Box information on Navy Dads, which was helpful in many ways.

Can anyone tell me approximately when they first heard from their candidate after they started the program? I know this is all about her and not about me, but I'm legit going through withdrawl, lol!

Thank you kind people! Congratulations for having a reason to be on this page and in these groups!

Jan

    It has been about 3 3/4 years since my son did OCS, but I remember that you do not get a phone call till the end of week 3 if they pass whatever they are doing that week (I can't remember what that first test is called now).    I remember they only get like 10 minutes on the phone and they have to sign up for a slot to call you. They are able to write to you if they have time. I remember being shocked that my son wrote to me that first week and we got a letter like the end of the first week or the beginning of the second week.  But they are busy from like 5 am to 10 pm at night, so the only time they have to write is after 10 pm and most of them want to sleep! Good luck to your daughter!

      Hello, Jan;

      My daughter graduated from OCS Jan 2020 and I am so grateful for this page for the support and information other moms shared with me at the time when I needed it most.  OCS is very fluid and regulations keeps changing so better to play it safe.. Candidates open CANDI-O boxes after Battle Stations and I remember my daughter telling me it was like Christmas morning :) I know gum is a big no-no during my daughter's time in OCS.. My daughter and her roommate loved the hydrating masks I sent her, her dad sent some Navy keychain and pins.  She asked for eyeliner and mascara (travel sizes) and lip balm.  Don't send stuff toys, I did send a small one , one of her favorite and it was considered contraband but she was allowed to keep it :) whew..some little notebooks, stationaries of her fave Japanese characters.. personal notes, cards from family and friends.. Hope this helps.. Maria
