Hi all,
First let me say thanks for having this site! I appreciate all the feedback, tips and good wishes from each of you to each other (I have been viewing the conversations/discussions for a couple days now). I am not sure how the process works once he gets to Japan so I have a few questions (which may have been addressed already at some point) so please bear with me :)
1. I know the USS GW is currently deployed so how will the new sailors get to their ship? Or will they wait for the ship's return to port?
2. What is the best route for getting a phone/phone service that will be budget friendly for my sailor?
3. How will leave work? I know it will be a while before he has enough leave to come home but is it feasible to expect a yearly visit?
Again, thank you for the opportunity to be a part of a group that understands the fears, frustration and pride of being a Navy mom.
Hope all your sailors are healthy and happy!
Here is a welcome aboard packet for you, just click on the link.

Welcome to the group! Everything you've been told so far we've all had to learn about. Congratulations to your son! My sailor says he works hard and looks forward to down time. Just sent some cookies! It will take a minute for him to get acclimated. Look for the first call to be early in the morning our time. It works out to be a day ahead of US time, depending on what time zone you're in. I'm Central Time. Once again, WELCOME!!
