Mineman Moms
My son arrived at RTC on 11/15/11. His current contract has him as a Mineman and I am looking to see if there are any other Mineman Moms out there that have sons/daughters who are going in or have just arrived! Mineman is such a small community that it is hard to gather information about the rate, and would like to hear stories or talk about what our children are doing!
leaving for bootcamp 9/10/14
My son is leaving Brooklyn NY 9/10/14 for the great lakes as a mineman. He is in the reserves. Does anyone know how long it will be, can we stay at the Navy lodge, and how long will A school be in San Diego? What comes after A school? Does he come home since he is reserves? Is there more school after A school? I can't get any concrete info from my son. Thanks!

Hi, Kathy-
I'm not sure about the reserves part, but I can tell you that my son, who is also a Mineman, spent about 8-10 weeks at Great Lakes after boot camp for ATT (Advanced Technical Training). It is basically a class on electrical stuff.
After that, he went to San Diego for A School. Mineman A School is 10-11 weeks long (I'm not sure I have that exactly right, but it's close).
My son has done additional training (C School), but I'm not sure they have reservists do this, and it depends what specialized skills the Navy needs at the time.

HI Kathy,
My son is listed as a MN too. He is signed up for the reserves also. I understand they go to GL for 6-7 weeks and then A school in San Diego for awhile. I don't expect him home until May... but things could change. He just went to BC Nov. 6. Good luck to him!!
