Tiramisu- so true!  Happy tears are true...neither my husband nor I, nor his sisters can stop touching him, smiling at him etc.  We are so blessed to have him with us for OHARP until school begins back in RI.  Needless to say, I am cooking and baking to beat the band!   He cleaned out his closet to donate a mountain of clothes! Bigger shoulders and smaller waist; I guess it is to be expected!  PeggyW, I just wrote a long list of info for graduation on the group "OCS Graduation", take a look.  Congrats to all new Ensigns and their LO's!!
  • NCmom

oops that is "Graduation Day" group
  • violet

Yup during my last call my LO said she would be shopping for a new wardrobe. They also have a completely new sensibility about what is acceptable and what is not. My LO says she notices pilling and lint on other people's clothing. I think she wants to run over and say something to them, but has the good sense to restrain herself. LOL

NCmom:  I spoke w/ my son a short while ago.  Given the "NC" clue, he knows your son...I'll send you a message with more.
  • zaksgranma(OCS)

Our 11-11 group has their RLP tomorrow.  Everyone say an extra prayer for all of them tonight, please.

  • zaksgranma(OCS)

Make sure you send plenty of phone cards.  Someone said that it eats up about 30 minutes of "phone time" just getting the call through.  Target had 600minute phone cards for $20 a while back.  Like dmaire said, they are really good about sharing their cards so those minutes are eaten up in  a hurry.

  • violet

    Will do ZaksGranma.
  • angie79

Thanks Violet!  My husband is also a part of 11-11.
  • violet

Once RLP is over you will be surprised how fast the time starts going by.
  • Wolfpackmom

11-11 mom here too! Good luck with RLP today!
  • Tiramisu

A couple of you have already seen these.  I hope this inspires you moms and wives and maybe gives you a smile...because this day will be here very soon for you all.  Here's some of my photos taken last week:

Thanks for sharing!  I can't wait for graduation day.
  • zaksgranma(OCS)

@tiramisu, thanks for sharing your pictures.  Pictures and posts from all you make us feel closer to them.
  • Tiramisu

On Sunday morning, I watched as my son and another new Ensign buddy were talking with some anxious soon-to-be Indocs at our hotel.  They answered some basic questions (ie: "what do we do with our cell phones?" etc.).  It was sort of a "before and after" scene.  The confidence our son and his buddy had was impressive and heartwarming.  I think he's at least a couple of inches taller....literally and figuratively. :-)
  • NCmom

Voilet- I know he is constantly calling out "contraband!"!  and taking out those little scissors to trim every little thread is hilarious!  Tiramisu- yup only a few from NC !!
  • NavyMom

Hi all! We just got an email from our son regarding the sweatshirts/T-shirts that each class designs for their group. It sure makes it feel more like we are coming down to the finish line. Getting very excited about Graduation!
  • violet

@NCMOM -  LOL is that his nickname "Contraband"? They all get these really crazy nicknames. My LO is Short Stock. (she's 4'10") but she can't figure out why people call her that.
  • NavyMom

    Hi Tiramisue!

Thanks for sharing - we will be experiencing this in about 5 weeks! So looking forward to it. I cried a lot when he left - tried not to but just could not hold back the tears... I know when I get there I will forget all of that and be so proud!

  • zaksgranma(OCS)

@NavyMom, is your son in 10-11?  those shirts are awesome.  They did a good job with the design.  We aren't in 10-11, but I'd like to have one of them. lol
  • NavyMom

Hi Zaksgranma!  Yes my son is in the 10-11 class. We just ordered our sweatshirts - so looking forward to wearing them like a very proud Navy Mom.

  • Beth

hi zaksgranma...my son designed the shirt!!!  i can't wait to actually see what they look like...he won't tell me which shirts he ordered for us; he says they are a surprise!
  • NCmom

Violet- No someone else was Contraband though!  The nick names are all so funny and have great stories attached to them.
  • NavyMom

Thanks for sharing Tiramisu!  Those pictures are great - can't wait to share my own!
  • Tiramisu

You're welcome, NavyMom.  My son told me the professional ones he ordered will be much better, but I think these are okay too.  Evidently, the professional photographers do a real sales pitch to get them to buy a big photo package...they reminded him that Mother's Day is coming up, etc.  ha

  • zaksgranma(OCS)

Zak passed RLP Thursday!!!!  The sun is shining all over my world today!!!

  • NCmom

Awesome!  Congratulations!  Keep praying, but the worst is over!!  Yay!
  • NavyMom

Hip Hip Horray for Zak!  I know that feeling. It seemed like after my son passed RLP everything else was down hill. He seemed a little more at ease after that when we heard from him. The only concern after that is that he might get an injury that would delay him. He actually started out with some physical challenges right from the beginning because he got a nasty stomach virus 4 days before he left. I had to take him to the emergency room for dehydration and then when he got to OCS he immediately got a sinus infection and was on antibiotics for the first couple of weeks.  He stayed the course despite all of that and passed RLP too!  What can I say "I'm a very proud NavyMom" He obviously has great determination but... I know that prayer had a lot to do with it too!
  • NavyMom

Hi Beth - just wanted to say what awesome talent your son has! I know that all the guys in 10-11 are very proud of those shirts.  I shared Zaksgranma comments on wanting one of those shirts with my son and our 10-11 facegroup. Everyone was so excited to hear that comment. Thanks for the encouragement Zaksgranma!
  • Beth

Class 10-11 won their streamer in Drill Competition today!!!!  One more streamer and they are an Honor's Class!
  • NavyMom

Oh my goodness!  I am so thrilled - thank you for sharing Beth!
  • Beth

NavyMom...no problem!  If they get the Academic Streamer, they will be an Honor's Class...first in a while is what I hear!  We are all so proud of them!
  • JDHerman

Thanks so much for the quick responses regarding the class number. You all are awesome!
  • JudyM

Hi all, my son is in 09-11 and next week we get to travel to Newport to see him graduate. I am so proud, he is the only one to get the "snowflake" award or honor grad in his class. I have read some of your posts and it is hard to realize we were there not long ago. Hang in there, it gets easier. RLP is a big hurdle.
  • LZ27

Have a great trip Judy!  It is terrific to hear your words of support as it seems like yesterday when we met and you were full of questions.  Hope you have great weather and a safe travel.  Can't wait to see you when you get back, of course we want to see the pictures.
  • JudyM

It does seem like yesterday that Jesse left. Did you still want me to try to get to the nex for 2 leashes and 1 bowl?
  • LZ27

    yes thanks
  • JudyM

I will do the best I can and let you know when I get back.
  • NavyMom

Give us a report when you get back LZ27! We want to see pics and all the details!

  • zaksgranma(OCS)

Class 11-11 is doing rope course exercises today.  Someone was able to post some pictures on Facebook.  Reminds me of Summer Camp!

  • JudyM

The graduation for 09-11 is Friday. I am so excited. We leave on Wednesday. PIR, Hi Moms, and graduation - hard to believe it is here already.
  • NavyMom

Congratulations JudyM. So happy for you. Ours is just 4 weeks away. So looking forward to it.
  • JudyM

Thanks, your class will be Candios this week. The last three weeks are definitely different. I know my son was reallllllly busy.
  • NCmom

    • Hi Judy M, Congratulations to you and all of the soon to be Ensigns!! We are still looking at pictures from three weeks ago and smiling!!  Have a wonderful time and take extra memory sticks for the camera!!
  • JudyM

KC9881, they are really busy about this time. I would suggest, if you have not, join the facebook group page for your class. It is Navy OCS Class 10-11 Friends and Family (20 FEB 2011).

I have found so much info and support on the 09-11 page. Many times other Moms, wives, or family members have heard from their LOs and post what is going on.

  • NCmom

I know you are!! You won't be able to hug, or touch him enough!!  Enjoy every minute!
  • SaraBlueBerry

zaksgranma... tell them to take those photos off facebook! It is against policy. 10-11 got in to trouble for posting pics from ocs!
  • kab

Congratulation to all the new Ensigns gratuating this week and their families -- Enjoy the time in Newport with your LO's  - take lots of pictures !
  • PeggyW

Tiramisu-  All I can say is WOW!!! I LOVED all of your graduation pics!! I actually teared up looking at them- does this mean I will be a total mess when my son graduates in June? Probably! Your son looks so handsome and you have a beautiful family- congratulations to all of you!!
  • Tiramisu

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback, Peggy.  I did tear up looking at other people photos too.  I really thought I'd be a total wreck that day, but I wasn't---it was all happy...no tears.  And this is coming from a mom who had a huge lump in her throat when he was inducted into National Honor Society in high school!  haa

Congratulations tomorrow to the newst Ensigns!!
