just received this as an email & thought I'd pass it on. God bless our troops!

Your cell phone is in your pocket.

He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.
He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.

You walk down the beach, staring

    at all the pretty girls.
     He patrols the streets, searching

    for insurgents and terrorists.
He's told he will be held over an

    extra 2 months.

You call your girlfriend and set a

    date for tonight.
He waits for the mail to see if there

    is a letter from home.

You hug and kiss your girlfriend,

    like you do everyday.
He holds his letter close and smells

    his love's perfume.

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.
He gets a letter with pictures of his

new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet.

    You criticize your government, and

say that war never solves anything.
He sees the innocent tortured and

killed by their own people and

    remembers why he is fighting.

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him.
He hears the gunfire, bombs and

    screams of the wounded.

You see only what the media wants

    you to see.
He sees the broken bodies lying

    around him.

You are asked to do some thing by

    your parents. You don't.
He does exactly what he is told even

if it puts his life in danger.

You stay at home and watch TV.
He takes whatever time he is given

to call, write home, sleep, and eat.

You crawl into your soft bed, with

    down pillows, and get comfortable.
He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long.

If you support your troops, send this

    to 13 people.

REMEMBER our Troops, and do not

    forget them LATER
     Lest we forget -
     KEEP THE CHAIN GOING

2 months from now I will be in Guam. I am so excited. We have a new Sailor baby on the way.
  • LivNLrn

Andrea(ATO)- Whew! I was getting worried! So happy he is finding his way and met someone as well. The only difference between his experience here and everyone else's is what he makes of it!
  • LivNLrn

Hi Mona!!! I will do that- She is O-M-G adorable!!! Missed out on seeing them tonight because I am just not feeling so great today. Resting. Hope to feel better by the weekend. Hope you are doing great!
  • Irene McClure

We paid $1600.00 for my ticket -staying over night in Tx. Then headed to Guam the next morning. I am so excited. I can't wait to be there with my daughter and son-n-law. Getting to meet all their friends and seeing the sites.
  • LivNLrn

Can't wait to meet you Irene!
  • Irene McClure

Hey Becky! How are you doing?
  • Proud2B/Shelbysmom

Hi fellow Guam moms,  My daughter Shelby left for Guam on Valentines Day, the worst Valentines Day I've ever had and her also.  She boarded the plane with many tears in her eyes and not wanting to go at all.  She wasn't prepared for hearing she would be spending the next 3 years in guam.  She was determined not to like it but after a few days she says she is going to buy a car, go to the beach, she met some friends already and went to a baby shower in less than two weeks.  I am so relieved she is doing well.  I miss her.
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

My son has to report for duty @ the Naval Hospital in Guam Mar.30. The reality of it all is starting to hit me hard. I have never had him that far away from me before. He won't be 19 until July, but I know he will deal w/this move much better than I will. And to top things off, my youngest, a girl, will be 16 & driving this month also!  March is going to be a very emotional month for this Mom....
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

    Carrol,

Funny you should mention the baby thing.  Devin's friend's call him the "Navy Baby" as he is the youngest one in their little "click". I got the biggest kick out that when he told me, too cute!

  • luvinmatt

The single sailor place is on base across from the gym. They also have wi fi at the nex food court as well as Molly Mcgees/Naps, and the restaurant over by the marina.
  • luvinmatt

Oh and the USO also has internet access, phones, tvs, gaming systems for use. But that is off base.
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

I'll have to tell my son all this info. He will be in Guam by the end of the month.
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

Rhonda, My name is Rhonda also. I haven't run into too many people that have the same name, let alone spelled the same way. Nice to meet you!:)
  • Irene McClure

Japan was just hit with a Tsunami. Guam and Hawaii are under a warning. Please keep them in prayer. Guam is moving to higher grounds now. We just talked to our daughter. Her husband is on his way home. She is with one of her best friends.
  • Irene McClure

    Base is in a lockdown.
  • Irene McClure

My son-n-law just called,he is home now with my daughter.

  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

My son will be arriving in Guam @ the end of next wk.  And here I thought Guam was the safe place for him to be. Thoughts & prayers to everyone there.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Tyler has been in Guam for 1 1/2 weeks....never really thought about weather threats...praying fo all to be safe.
  • Mz.T

Just heard from my son about an hour ago... Guam is good. If you are able to text your sailor you should try. Calling is a hit and miss. It passed them. Please pray for my nephew and his family they are in Japan.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Does anyone's sailor call from Guam using a cell phone...if so, what plan do you use to be most cost efficient..He doesn't have access to computer right now to do Skype.
  • Tramama

Talked to my daughter earlier today - they were safe but the phone and internet was on and off.  My son-in-law was home but was expecting to be mobilized for some humanitarian duty.
  • Tramama

Joanie, when they first arrived, they bought prepaid cell phones to call home.  My daughter would take her laptop to the laundromat on base to skype since they had free wi-fi.  There are some places that have internet access as well.
  • twinsmom19

My daughter Kate just arrived in Guam 2 days ago, just in time for the earthquake in Japan. She doesn't know how to access internet or how to get around(she is six miles from the hospital. She feels lost and I am a nervous mother. Her twin sister leaves in June for basic. I am having a hard time and so is Kate. This was a big step for her and then with all that has happened, its been rough.Plase tell me it will get better!
  • luvinmatt

twinsmom is she in the navy or a spouse? She can go to the library on base if she wants to use the internet. They have computers as well as wifi.  If she is in the navy the single sailor sanctuary is right next door. The nex also has wifi out in the food court.
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

What is the situation like in Guam? My son is supposed to fly out Wed. morning. He called PSD today & they told him that as far as they knew, everything was still a go. He's a bit concerned because he's supposed fly into Tokyo & he also found out the 6 others w/over-sea's orders had them canceled. Needless to say, we are all a bit on edge.
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

David (& Kathi), thanks for the info. We have checked his flight status & it's still on track. We discussed trying to get it re-routed but because the Navy is the one who bought the tickets originally, he said it'd be a nightmare not to mention expensive to try to get them changed,  All I can do is hope & pray for the best.
  • luvinmatt

He should look at his itinerary there is a number on it he can call if there are any issues. I am positive the Tokyo airport is up and running though, we had some people from our ship fly over on commercial airlines to help out with the nuclear stuff. They flew into Tokyo. He can also call the SATO office on base and see if they want him to do anything special.

PRAYERS TO ALL OF JAPAN AND OUR SAILORS AND FAMILIES
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

A few hrs ago I did just about the hardest thing that I've ever had to do....I put my 18 yr old son on a plane to Guam. We left our house around 12:30 am this morning & my daughter & I just got home (11:00am). I am physically & emotionaly drained. I just wish he didn't have a lay-over in Tokyo!  The thought of it all just makes me sick to my stomach.  My prayers are w/him, all of our other US service members, & everyone else affected by this terrible disaster.
  • abbyblue

YOUR SON WILL BE FINE Guam is good weather. you may want remove som of that information time when and where are no no..
  • luvinmatt

If he is on base he should have heard the sirens they were super LOUD and started at like 3 pm. I dont know how he could not have heard them. We live about 10 mins away from base and could hear them at our house. The closest place that is considered high ground is Nimitz Hill which is where we live. The hospital is up on the top of the hill he should know where that is. If they had actually evacuated the base he would have known for sure. The MP's would come by and knocked on doors telling people to leave.  You can also sign up with some website that will send you text alerts if there are warnings of any kind. I will see if I can find it again.

  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

Thank you everyone! My son called when he arrived & he said all went well. Just waiting now to here from him again! In the meantime, today we are celebrating his sisters "Sweet 16" birthday!  Off to get her driving permit after school. Yhis has been quite the week!
  • Proud2B/Shelbysmom

Hi Devins mom, I too just went through the same thing on Valentines Day no less. I had to put My beautiful daughter b arely 18 on a plane to Guam to live for the next 3 years.  It was so hard.  She desperately didn't want to go which made it even harder.  She cried as security told her we couldn't go with her through the checkpoint.  We both cried as I had to walk away knowing it will be a long time til I see her again.  The layover was so stressful like you said.  She didn't know what to do or where to go.  The layover was so long about 14 hours I think.  When she arrived in Guam she was determined not to like it.  I told her to give it a chance but she was just upset.  To my relief a few days went by and things started getting better for her.  She actually bought a new car the other day.  lol   I miss her and yes I was sick to my stomache as well.  then the tsunami warning came and OMG really sick to my stomache.  Thank God it passed them.  Take care and best wishes and prayers go out to you and all the Navy Moms.
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

Shelbysmom,  What is your daughters rate?  My son texted me the other night & said that he "f'n loves his life"! I was so relieved. His sponser was showing him around yesterday & he too was going car shopping. He ran into a girl that he had met @ Corpsman school & graduated before him & he also has a friend stationed there from back home ( although they haven't met up yet). He's pretty excited about being there. As for being @ the airport, we were issued gate passes & were able to go right to the boarding area & wait w/him unilt he got on the plane. We just told them that he was going overseas.. I hope everything goes well & your daughter adjusts to everything. Where are you from?  Take care & good luck!!
  • Michelle(2Submariners)

My son has been in Guam for 3 years on the USS Houston as a sonor tech
  • luvinmatt

The only way he will be alone is if he wants to be. Between the commands, friends, and USO there are TONS of things to do around the holidays.
  • luvinmatt

@ Gerry they sure do know how to party over here. Holidays are no joke. Everyone gets into the spirit whether they are bbqing on the beach or doing a sit down dinner at home.
  • LivNLrn

About holidays- in fact, the biggest dilemma they might have is which house/ event to go to FIRST and how to not eat too much before the next house!
  • Proud2B/Shelbysmom

Hi Devins mom and guam moms,  I wish we would have been able to go with her to the boarding gate.  The security guard was a real jerk, he got a little nicer when he saw us crying but he wouldn't let us through and he was hurrying us out of the way.  I think Shelby is really enjoying Guam now.  She posts pics of her on the beach.  I am so Jealous.  I am glad the same is true for your son.  As long as their happy, right?  We are from California, U?
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

Hi Shelbysmom!!  And everyone else!! It's a beautiful sunny morning here in Northern NY, it so nice to have all of the snow gone & the sun to be out. I say we all start "Guam Funds" & plan a N4M's reunion there & party it up!! It's sounds like our kids are enjoying themselves, so we should too!

My son finally met up w/ his friend from back home who is also in the Navy & he is showing Devin the life in Guam. He is loving it. He's been snorkeling, sightseeing, & golfing. He says that everyone is very nice & helpful.

I am adjusting well w/having him gone.  Thank God I have his 16 yr old sister to keep me busy. My hardest time seems to be in the mornings when I first get up & sitting here having my coffee. That's when the tears come....I miss him so much!!  He is very good about calling & sending me messages, that helps alot.

Shelbysmom---where in Cali are you? We live in Northern NY, on the St. Lawrace river. A beautiful town called Cape Vincent. Canada is right across the river, we can see it. The St. Lawrance River connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes so we are able to watch the ships pass through. We love it here!:)

    Have a great day everyone!

  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

I'm trying to mail a laptop to my son in Guam...It's too big for the flat rate large box at the Post Office..can I mail it in a plain brown box?
  • luvinmatt

You can send it in a brown box just make sure you insure it and send it priority mail. That is VERY important. Eletronic items tend to go missing if they get opened by customs.
  • luvinmatt

we prefer off base 100% for a bunch of different reasons. Our house compared to what we could have gotten on base is like 100 times better lol. Plus if you are smart you can make money off the utility allowance. We pocket about 500 a month just from that. The only bad thing about look for a house off base is sometimes it can take a really long time. It took us 3 weeks to get into the house we wanted and not everyone can afford to stay in a hotel that long.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

My son was robbed at knife point last night inTumon, Guam....They took his debit cards/credit cards/cash/military id.....I'm trying to figure out fastest way to send replacement cards or get cash to him....Our packages mailed 3-7-2011 and 3-15-2011 have not arrived there yet....our letters and envelopes mailed  3-7-2011 thru 3-20-2011 have not arrived there either....any suggestions ladies?
  • luvinmatt

Who does he bank with? IF it is navy fed he can get cash at the bank right outside of base. You could wire him money thru western union. Ummm you can do express mail. It take 3-5 days to get to a street address not sure if you are sending it to the FPO address or not. The FPO address is going to take longer.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Luvinmatt: He didn't know where navy fed was located...so it's right outside of base? He banks with USAA...he has one check he can cash, just didn't know where bank was located....The only address I have is FPO...don't have a street address....Would the Western Union go to the Navy Fed right outside base? Thanks for all the info.
  • luvinmatt

It is  to the left right after you come out of base. I am sure he has driven by it 100 times. If he banks with USAA I would give them a call and see what they can do I am sure they have some kind of plan for stuff like this. Western Union is not through the banks. It looks like there is one over on the AFB. I have never used them so I dont know much about it. I would not send cash or cards to the FPO address maybe he has someone he can trust that lives off base and he can have it sent there?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

All of the people who he knows are on base with him....They are just deployed there for a few months....I don't know any other way to send mail other than an FPO address....USAA said they could only mail the replacement card to his address on record, wihich is our house...guess I'll keep looking....He'll have to check and see if there is a Western Union on the Naval Base.
  • luvinmatt

hmmm idk that is a tough situation. Good Luck!
