Hi Moms ... I have not been on for a long while.  I read your comments every night as it makes me feel closer to my son through all of you.  I want to thank chriswick for that beautiful poem on sisters and also to say I am so sorry for your loss.  Leta..my son is home too on emergency leave and he returns this Thursday..I am feeling your pain.  I believe my son and your son know each other pretty well...Terence says Daniel is a really nice guy...I have not been on and Terence is home because my other son Kevin just had brain surgery to remove a cancerous tumor.  He is 22 and spent the entire summer in the hospital having chemotherapy.  Surgery went very well and it seems that the tumor is gone.  Now he has six weeks of radiation and some physical therapy a head of him. The Navy has been wonderful.  Terence came home in August when we finally realized he had to know the truth about how sick his brother was.  I had to call the Red Cross to get his leave moved up from Mid September to beginning of August but the Navy came through.  Two weeks ago the doctors decided to operate and it was very iffy and scary as to what the outcome would be because the tumor was large and in the middle of his brain.  God blessed our family and the Navy came through by sending my son home on emergency leave and Kevin came through the surgery with very few issues.  He is actually home already and walking around on his own.  Anyway...Terence leaves Thursday and probably wont be home again until he is assigned a new duty station.  He has about eleven months left in Bahrain.  I hope all of you have a peaceful night.

Trashline - I'm so glad everything & everyone pulled through & together for this time of uncertainty. Makes one believe in the goodness of the universe & how it conspires to help us out when things get almost too tough to manage. Sending happy & healthy thoughts your way'
Thanks also for the kind words for our KC, they mean a lot to us.
  • chriscwick

Any reason given? Or just "No, can't go."?
    What a cruddy deal.
  • trashline27

Stevesmom - I am so sorry to hear that. Sounds like the "kennel inspection" may be an excuse.  I wonder how much we actually know about what is going on over there -- the Middle East is such a mess!  I will keep you and your family in my thoughts today...I know how disappointed you must be.  It really seems quite unfair.  : (
  • Mom2aSailor

My daughter is planning on being there Dec. 29th.. The more I see what is going on overseas, the more I get nervous. Do your sailors feel safe over there?
  • Jane-Adam's mom

My son Adam leaves Tuesday for Bahrain. He finished training in Coronado-they told him when he got there a month ago that he would be doing 12 hour shifts. He will be doing mobile security as an MESG-1
  • chriscwick

In last call Chris told us they were again working more, but no indication as to why. I, too, worry if the Libya, Gadafi unrest has ramped things up. He still maintains that he feels safe & secure on & off base. He said I should worry more about the Bahrainie driving habits!
  • Jane-Adam's mom

he good thing is that France anounced they would not sit by and allow Israel to be attacked. I have a feeling there will remain a large presence in and under the water, as well as neighboring bases.

My son leaves Tuesday, are we able only to mail small boxes or can I ship clothes/uniforms to him? How long does it normally take?

  • chriscwick

1-800-610-8734 is the number for USPS Military mailing supplies. "If it Fits Ships boxes in various sizes & customs forms! I've learned how to ship cookies I'm Pringles cans, make "Cakes (yes, baked) in a jar"! Great site!
  • chriscwick

Yummmmm. How bout a coffee can?!
    lol
  • chriscwick

    It must taste like love!
  • chriscwick

    Yea! Some good news!

Tammy - WA is a lovely place to visit! Glad you've some time together.

Donna - Happy they could work out leave for Steve. Guess all our good thoughts paid off! Wonder if his furry-one could be in the or chewing upon, the capable hands of my Navy "Chew Toy" son. A good time will be had by all, I'll bet!
  • chriscwick

How cute! Am so jealous, I've yet to get my "kid with camel" photo! And Chris has been there 16 months! : )
  • chriscwick

    Slacker kids! lol lol
  • chriscwick

Latest photos of Chris came off dog handler "Toucci's FB page. He, Chris & Cherry were "playing! Most of the playing involved "the "Cherry" on top! Here's the sequence: handler holds huge barking, snarling wad of teeth & fur, next tall handsome MA aka bait, taunts said wad, next bait is told to run! Next, as he hauls a__he hears a faint voice say, "git him"! Then things get very hairy, handsome MA eats dirt...with a "Cherry on top" as the handler laughs his butt off & my son, again, becomes a NAVY chew toy. Warms a Navy Moms heart. lol
  • chriscwick

HOOYAH! To those we loved and those we love.
So proud of our men & women, our sons & daughters who serve and protect the freedoms we enjoy.
Thanks & gratitude from this NAVY Mom.
    Fair winds and following seas.
  • chriscwick

Yep Donna, there's the "Cherry" on top! Don't ya just love it?!
Tucci was sweet to share the pics by tagging my Chris. The sequence of shots tells the story & it's a goodie. That'll teach "wick" to watch which fur-ball he talks smack to!
He soooooo loves his work, still no word of a leash of his own.
  • chriscwick

    -/--) Aweigh! : )
  • chriscwick

Wonderful Donna! So glad you heard from him. Next time he'll have some rest & land legs.
  • chriscwick

Jill H - those responsible days will come all too soon!
  • Miss Suzanne

Hello everyone! So apparently after my son finishes C school in late Feb, early March, he & his dog will be off to Bahrain....which makes this group the place to be for me, huh? :-)
I know I'm early, but I thought I'd stop in and say "hi" anyway. So.... hello!
  • chriscwick

    Welcome aboard!!!!
  • Miss Suzanne

Wow, what a nice welcome! Thank you, now I know this is the place to be! :-)
I can't wait to meet his dog... and get to know you guys!

I'm in CO., anyone else in the "Rocky Mountain" State?
  • chriscwick

North Carolina (12 yrs) via Miami, FL (47 yrs)
Used to ski Summit County, CO (16 yrs)
    Beautiful..."it's all good!"
  • chriscwick

"Gary Cooper" aka MA3 Chris's 22nd BD is tomorrow (16th)! Tylos Lopez at the NEX came through once again as my Baskin-Robbins liaison! Did it all by email. Happy, not just proud, NAVY Mom.
  • chriscwick

    I like your style!
  • chriscwick

Thanks for all the BD wishes for Chris. Very sweet of you!
I subbed in Pre K today. Folks there are really short! Had to ice my back. Had a good day nonetheless. Had a little 'un needing a back & head rub to settle down for nap. Reminded me of my sailor, got teary-eyed. Such a sorry-softie. Glad the 2 assistants knew Chris & understood. Whew! No call, just a non-BD text with his Dad. Hopefulof a call over the weekend. Afraid to call him, as I got him un trouble last year with his CO....twice....in five minutes! Bad NAVY Mom.
  • Miss Suzanne

Chriscwick - well done! :-) you'll have to let me in on your secret sometime! (My boy turns 19 in early March, & that would be neat!)
22? Where does the time go, huh?
  • Miss Suzanne

Thanks again for the warm welcomes, its amazing how different people from different parts of the US can all get together, and care for one another, when their children are all in the same situation isn't it?
The entire world should take a cue from us, then our Sailors could all be home! :-)
  • Miss Suzanne

Hello ladies, I'm hoping you can help me...
I have a bet going with my father: I say that when the Sailors get their dogs, the dogs are always with them, even coming home with them on leave. He says that's not true, that the dogs are left on base in a kennel.
Can anyone help with the answer?
  • trashline27

Albany New York here!  well thats where I was born and raised now living about 20 minutes north in Halfmoon - (near Saratoga NY )

  • chriscwick

Congratulations MA3 Navy Mom Donna! HooYah!
  • Miss Suzanne

Congratulations Donna! MA3! THATS GREAT! :-)

Yes, my son Michael is going to C School to be a handler. He'll ship out to Bahrain sometime in April. (I posted that I was here early! lol!)
Darn, I lost the bet with my father... oh well! *grin*

What is TAD, by the way?
  • chriscwick

    TAD - temporary assigned duty
Go up this page on the right side to "NAVY SPEAK"!
I'm still trying to keep up with all the various acronyms. I'm a vocabulary freak & Chris just loves to drive me crazy with his Navy stuff! : )
    @-l--}
  • chriscwick

I can't & don't want to know what I've spent! The Military "large" box seems a bit bigger. You'll get very creative packing boxes! I've dismantled stuff & sent tools to put them back together!
  • chriscwick

Yep! Sickie bags are great & the kids use them after! Win-win!!!
  • chriscwick

Love this pic! Hope the kids made huge copies for our Christmas gifts! Chris is on the left bottom step. Kid looks sharp don't he?! They all look wonderful.
  • Miss Suzanne

What a great pic - definitely one for framing (for future, "remember when's?" :-)
You have a handsome boy there, Donna! And you, too chriscwick! All the guys look great!
Speaking of boxes, Leta, I know that the large Military boxes are a flat fee of $12.95 each - military discount = $2.00... so it would depend on now heavy your one big box would be, I guess...? Funny - I just called and ordered 2 Military packs yesterday!
I like the different type of dogs, tho most look to be GShepards, at least there are a couple of other breeds.

Does anyone know wwhy they need so many dogs in one place? And, are all dog handlers MaArms like my Michael is? #JustCurious

And Donna, now did you embed a pic into your post? I didn't know we could do that! lol!
Speaking of pics, I just got mine emailed to me of my son's MaA pinning ceremony/graduation. I cried. :-)
  • chriscwick

Suzanne - some are Belgians! They look like a GS, but with bigger ears (to hear you with) & Chris says bigger teeth ( to chew you with & he knows the "chew you" part well) they are leaner & not as fluffy! Seal Team 6 took one when they visited Osama, the last time.....
  • Miss Suzanne

Bigger ears to hear you with, and bigger teeth to EAT you with! ;)
I'm going to have to look up Belgians, and get more info on them now! Thanks chriscwick! :-)
  • chriscwick

    Chris isn't (yet) a handler, but is working like crazy to be one! Heidi - since your guy is a "home schooled" chew toy, he & Chris should compare stories & tooth marks! -@--}
  • chriscwick

Don't know "lA" either, am now curious! Let us know, when you find out.
It's interesting all the jobs & responsibilities our sailors have. I've learned so much, yet have so much more to learn. Quite a journey we're all sharing!!
  • Mom2aSailor

Trashline27... I am about 45 min. NW of Albany!!  :)  We live near the Sacandaga Lake.  Is your son in Bahrain now? My daughter will arrive there at the end of Dec.

  • chriscwick

Titanium teeth?! and Chris talks about Leo being formidable...
  • chriscwick

I got a digital photo frame & a SD card as one of Chris's gifts. An ornament or two for the tree from last year. Ooooh, also found skull duct tape (a family joke), he gave me hot pink zebra stripe last visit home.
  • chriscwick

    Jill - 3 ft Pre-lit tree @ WallyWorld
Leta - didn't give mine either, no card gotten
  • Mom2aSailor

If my daughter was there now, she'd definitely do it.. she doesn't get there til the end of Dec.  ;(

  • chriscwick

Donna - Did Steve have an all black dog named "Grim"? Great looking, in a photo in front of a carrier?
Love the name! Reminded me of a story I once read.
