My husband has just departed from Bahrain to head to Virginia for 2 weeks for training!! I head there tomorrow :) So excited to see my husband, it's only been 4 months this time compared to the 10 months we went before the last time we have seen each other but I have to say the 4 months seem longer!! Hope everyone is having a great day!

Stevesmom - Iran is threatening to block a certain waterway, the strait of Hormez(sp?) which is important for oil exporting. Iran also said something about sending missiles at nearby foreign military bases and at Israel because of the sanctions against them because of their nuclear program. Just makes me a little nervous to hear with my son stationed in Bahrain.

  • chriscwick

    Enjoy your rendezvous jennyj!

Doggone saber rattling. I had enjoyed their last session where as they rattled the Abraham Lincoln Battle Group cruised through the Strait as calmly as you please & managed to rescue several Iranian boats floundering in the sea. Admiral Fox needs to investigate to see if "there is someone not acting professionally" on his waters!

This time they are rattling a bit too much for comfort and the little gift left outside the base was uncalled for. Makes what Chris calls the "MOM-inator" in me want to come out & kick some _ _ s! Makes me very apprehensive,
. Thank goodness I've got good intell on N4Ms! Thanks.
  • Navymom

Stevesmom - that is horrible to hear! I will definitely pray for him, his family and you. Let's trust God for a positive outcome. In your post you said he lost his "right right". Did you mean right leg? Please keep us updated.

  • NavyWife2010

Is there any wives that live in Bahrain? Hubby and I are thinking about making that our next station.

  • Jane-Adam's mom

I am praying for Micheal and his family. Such a tragic thing to happen.

  • A & A's Gma

keep praying for our sons and daughters .. Iran is putting there chest out for sure..!

  • JosephsWifey

shipwife- I don't live here but I've been here for 3 weeks so far and if you can choose somewhere else, I would for sure. Although, it really isn't ALL that horrible here. Nice places to shop, there are tons of really nice people....But it is very expensive and dangerous just to drive anywhere here...and its VERY ugly lol. In this caseI dont think the benefits outweigh the bad.... If you have any specific questions as a wife being here I might know the answers! :)

  • chriscwick

Chris told us he is counting the days until he can leave. He has also referred to it as being a hole. He would have been gone had the chance to be a MWD Handler not popped up. He signed on for another year as a condition to his going to C school.
  • Melissa Greenfield

"Anna" you are so very welcome. I'm glad this page has helped you and provided the needed information you were seeking. Now I thank you for serving!!!!!!!

  • chriscwick

Well, Donna, that just sounds lovely. Chris is all about being who you are, he wants to grow up to be like Gibbs in NCIS. I'll let him know, thx.
  • Nancy Cooper's Mom

Hi Everyone, I have been in the Midwest helping with ailing Parents.  Dial up internet and couldn't sign in.  Sounds like everyone is waiting to see what Iran will do. Our Guys (and Gals) and all the other Sailors are trained for anything.  I hope everyone's Sailors are doing well and you Mom's are hanging in there!  I miss my son!  Time for leave!?  I hope.

  • Mom2aSailor

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. my daughter is having a different experience over in Bahrain. She really hasn't said anything bad about being there. Her work schedule kinda sucks, but it's a job and she's not complaining. (She gets switched to 12's, 8's, days and nights!) Hard to get a schedule with that.. but, she keep plugging along. She's had some great officers take her under their wing! It's not all bad!

  • chriscwick

    Rita - Happy Birthday!

Good morning... We are new here. Our son left last week for Bahrain. He is a MA. Called yesterday to say he was doing great and would be starting training today. Looking forward to getting to know the other Moms here.

Such sad news today. Will be praying for all the Sailors there. Hugs and Prayers, Susan

  • chriscwick

Hearts are breaking; for MA MWD Handler Brodsky, for those lost or injured in the Sea Dragon crash & in CO where a maniac took many lives including a young Petty Officer.

Paces - welcome to a great group of women. We are moms, wives, girlfriends. If we don't know something be assured we can & will shortly! We can even get an ice cream cake in the sand! Again, welcome.
  • paces

chriscwick...Thank you. Sounds amazing to get an ice cream cake in the sand. Don't know how you did that, but I am sure there will be opportunities to learn.

Prayers being sent up for all our service men and women.  Hugs and Prayers, Susan

  • chriscwick

There's a Baskin Robbins on base, I have a contact! Oh, and I'll share.
    It's just what we do.

    : )
  • Navymom

It is so heartbreaking to hear about Michael. His family and loved ones will be in my prayers.

Welcome, Paces. My son has been in Bahrain for about 3 weeks and just got a roommate who just arrived. Wonder if it could be your son???

  • paces

Navymom...It could be! Our son said he knew his roommate from GL. He said his roommate is the past roommate of a good friend he had while in GL. Ours was a spec ops candidate before he was injured. He spent 8 months in GL in the medical unit, rehab and physical therapy. Just glad to have him better and out of GL. His initials are JP if you talk with your son soon. I will ask when ours calls as well. Glad to be here. Hugs and Prayers, Susan

  • Mom2aSailor

My son is currently stationed in San Diego and just recieved his orders to Bahrain. He will be deploying sometime after the first of September. it's nerve racking to say the least. Not sure what to expect or what we should do before he leaves. He has Verizon and I understand he should suspend his Verizon service? Other than that, no clue. Thanks

  • chriscwick

    Oregon Mom - welcome to the group! o-)--}

It is overwhelming when you get the news. We understand. Usually, it is best to suspend his US cell phone & pick up one there.

At least he will be getting into the "cooler" season when he reports. Humidity & heat is tough. He should get a DVD with information regarding the base & the country, and he'll have orientation once he's settled in. There is Internet, although spotty at times. Some sailors live off base like my (MA MWD) son. His flat is nice. There is no Mess on base, but there is a food court like arrangement & a NEX.
Start asking for your "kid with Camel photo"! Still awaiting mine, hoping I'll get it before he comes home after his three years there. : )
  • oregon mom

Thanks for the support and helpful information. It's going to be a LONG year.

Welcome OregonMom.  I am new here as well. My son just left about 2 weeks ago. Have heard from him a couple of times. He is using a prepaid card I think through his verizon account, I will ask when I talk with him again. The only negative I have heard from his so far is the heat. He said it is much worse than San Antonio when he was there about a month ago.

Kathy... Addresses would be great. I would like to send a card. Keeping them in our prayers.

    Hugs and Prayers, Susan

  • chriscwick

I'm so pleased at the turnout for the Norfolk services. Thanks for the update.
  • chriscwick

    Yea! & welcome!
  • Mommalinda

Hello Everyone,  my son has been in Bahrain for a Year and Half.  He is coming home for Liberty in 11 days, cannot wait to see him.  He will be leaving in January for his next duty station in Lemmore CA.  So excited will only be 7 hours from home then.  That will be a big change for all of us.  Its hard when there so far away.  Although Skype has made it a little easier, atleast I can see him.  Have a good weekend

  • chriscwick

Mommalinda - such wonderful news! Thanks for sharing! WOW!!!!!!!
  • Navymom

    @ paces

Hi Susan - I think our sons are roommates. Your son fits the description you gave me. My son's initials are AL. Pretty neat.

    Cathy

  • chriscwick

    Sorry to butt in ladies...
But, that room mate thing is just too neat!!
  • chriscwick

If he is like Chris gets, he's not used to down time. Also, he may not
have "his stuff" to keep him busy. It's a hard acclimation back to a civilian life. Chris also found many of his friends had not grown up yet as he has in the service. He liked them, but, they struck him as...frivolous?" Young. We have to remember that our "kids" have a lot more responsibility on them, earlier. They've been taught skills most of their friends only experience in a game. Mine's a MA & MWD Handler, he & Grim are capable of doing very scary stuff. Brian may feel out of place. Am rambling, any of this make any sense?!
  • paces

Navymom...I can't wait to ask him. Sunday is his birthday. It will be a little sad here.

Christine...Don't know how much help I can be, but our son was the same way. It took most of his 17 days home to decompress. Also, many of his friends had such different lives from when he left, it was hard for them to get together. It was another adjustment he had to make. We were just patient with him and we waited for him to tell us what he wanted, including what he wanted to eat. It was wonderful having him home, but it was stressful on us as well. We felt much the same as you. Hugs and prayers to you, Susan

  • paces

chriscwick...I know. I am anxious to find out if they are actually roommates. That would be awesome.

  • chriscwick

Wish him a great BD from us! If you want to get him an ice cream cake go online to the NAS Bahrain NEX there is a Baskin-Robbins. Tylos Lopez has been my liaison for ordering. Time difference can be problematic.
  • paces

Jill...Congrats. I know you are on cloud nine. Will be praying for you.

Navymom...Talked with our son today. Our sons are roommates. Said he is a good guy and is enjoying him as a roommate. But you already know that. I think it is great! He said he had a good birthday! Hugs and prayers. Susan

  • Rebecca

Hello everyone. I'm new here, my son leaves tomorrow for Bahrain. He is a Corpsman assigned to the Aviation Clinic there. My husband retired after 21 years in the AF, and never went anywhere near a place like Bahrain, so this is a bit nerve-wracking for me.

I have been told that he will be fine, and have a good time, but, a Mom is a Mom and I am a bit worried.

Any advice would be very much welcomed! Thanks!

  • Navymom

    @Paces

    Hi Susan-

I guess it is a smaller Navy world than I realized. Well Navy Mom website :-) That is really cool! When we are skyping with our son, sometimes I can see your son walking around in the background. Glad your son had a nice birthday.

Hi Rebecca - I totally understand your apprehension. I was really upset with my son because he chose to be stationed in Bahrain. I didn't want him anywhere near the Middle East. He has been there about a month and a half and so far I have been feeling pretty peaceful about it. He is mostly on the base so that makes me feel better. He has also had the opportunity to visit some interesting places like a mosque, a camel farm, and the national museum. What an education! So that is kind of neat. I have faith in God so I pray everyday for his safety. We have been skyping with him at least 2 to 3 times a week and I like seeing his face. I think they will be okay. If they have to be in that part of the world, it seems like Bahrain is not so bad. Hope that helps and welcome!! :-)

  • chriscwick

One day & one breath at a time. Mine is into his third year there.
This is the group to be with! ((<3))
