tsufish - I'm going to have to take a raincheck for today.  Something has stung me above my left eye, it's swelling up, and I'm not going out in public looking like this!  I'm very sorry to be backing out.  Hope you guys have a great time.

  • LisaMAmom

Received both the "box" and form letter today!
    Ship 14/DIV 318
    PIR 10 OCT

    Yay!
  • ycart

When did your son leave Mark's mom?  Mine left last week and I got the box Friday.  I haven't checked the mail yet today.  Now I really want to go home!!

  • LisaMAmom

Namracycart- my son left Aug 12.i was very surprised the letter and box came on same day, but sooooo glad. Just seeing his handwriting thrilled me. You will receive your form letter very soon, I'm sure. Maybe today!
  • tsufish

We had a great time Saturday.  Would love to do it again next month!  Please message me if you would like to join us.  Probably the weekend of the 20 or 27 and need suggestions on where to go!

  • LisaMAmom

My first real call received yesterday. Was about a 10-12 minute call. My son is very homesick and his voice was cracking. He said he is okay and I have to believe that he is. He sounded very tired. Sending out letters everyday but he has not received any yet. I hear that the next call should be a better call. I'll hang on to that.
  • 1Bodyprof

Marks Mom: Yes, it will be better! We missed our 2nd call and in the next letter he said "I hope you understood me because I got choked up.". He graduated a couple of weeks ago and is so very happy with his choice.
  • Tx Mom of Far Away Nuke

I didn't receive a single letter beyond my form letter.  They kept those kids busy.  They'll be adjusting to running, recovering from the crud, and staying up for watch at night.

  • Nana51

We are from Pearland, south of Hobby Airport.

Anyone planning to be at the San Antonio MEPS with their SR tomorrow (3 Sep).  Would love to meet you and have a face to go with the name :-)  PM me, if possible.  Thx!

    Good Morning Texas Ladies,

My name is Julia and I'm from the Waco area. Anyone else close by? My son just PIR on 8-22 and is now in A school in Charleston, SC.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

  • VKat

    Julia,

My son PIR'd in February and is now in Power school. We are from Houston so not close by. My son is always looking for fellow Texans. Some other kids there give him a hard time( in good fun) because he often wears "Texas" t-shirts and is very picky about his BBQ and Mexican food. Lol
  • Julia373

It is so nice to meet you ladies. I'm so new at all of this so forgive me if I ask a lot of crazy questions. I hope that my son is able to meet up with some Texans while in SC. Do you all know how long they will have off at Thanksgiving?

  • Nana51

We are from Pearland. My grandson will be attending Nuke School after PIR on 10/03.
  • Vickie360

I'm from the West U/Bellaire area. My son is leaving for RTC Monday morning. I can't find long distance phone cards anywhere. Any suggestions?

  • Brandon's mom

I used callsforrecruits.org to get free calling cards.
  • SJBAggie83

We found some at Walgreen or CVS. Also, check into http://callsforrecruits.org/phone-cards-info/ . They give free calling cards to recruits at TTC. Good luck.
  • SJBAggie83

    That's RTC. (I hate auto-correct. ) :-)
  • mrsruth1986

Georgiapeach we found some at Randall's. We finally asked at the courtesy booth. They are hard to find, but once you know what to look for it will be easier. Now our daughter is deployed & she & a friend on the ship went in together & bought an international phone & SIMS cards. (Something for future use).
Remember when the recruit does end up calling with the calling card YOUR caller ID might show another state other than IL. I learned & almost missed my daughter's first phone call after 2 weeks.
Good luck getting the cards. Tell your recruit to Stay Strong!
  • Ladybird

Good morning everyone. Sorry it's been a while. Does anyone else have a son or daughter on the Carl Vincent. Would love to talk to you.
  • Q'sMom ~ Dee

@AustinNavyMom  That's a great idea!  Makes me wonder if there are any moms of my SR's rating here in San Antonio.

**Calling all AME moms in San Antonio**  :-)

Are there any here?  If so, please shout back...would love to connect!  Thx!!

My daughter shipped on 9/10. Got her call, now writing letters. I found that numbering envelopes will help when she gets a handful. Also will send only white envelopes, I read in one of the other groups I'm a member of that if they receive mail in a colored envelope they may get messed with sergeants. So I do have a big stack of plain white envelope and I bought a couple of cards also but pound white envelope that the card we going to. Also don't put stickers on the outside idiom blow up in inside on your letter. Sending a photo copy of pictures are better than the real thing. For my daughter this is her dream .
  • Daun

    Darn auto correct .
  • V's Mom

Hi! Cynthia, we are from Weslaco. My daughter left on 8/5 and is scheduled or PIR 10/3/14. She is in Ship 11 Div 306.
  • Ruth, Gun's Mom

V's Mom and Cynthia, I'm one of those Winter Texans that lives in Donna part-time.  Last season I met a Navy mom from Harlingen, and we had a Molly's moms packing party together.  When I get to Palm Shadows in November, there will be a Navy mom from Tennessee staying the winter, too.  We all need to get together!  Find me on facebook please!  Ruth Clayton-Davis

  • tsufish

Sorry I've been MIA for the last month.  Anyone want to get together the afternoon of 9/27 in Fort Worth?

  • corrie

To all the new Navy moms out there I had sent my son a colored envelope with a card for my sons birthday and he said the didn't give him a hard time just don't make it a habit...The thing with stickers and such is they don't want anything with glitter on it as it will get onto their clothes and they will fail all inspections as glitter  does not easily come off their clothes....If you put stickers on the outside of their envelope they my get teased or extra pt.. it all depends on the drill instructor....I know that boot camp is toughy but I know all you moms and dads will get threw it know that it is just as hard or harder on them as it is us...My son is now in P'Cola in school and loves it. Ya'll can do this Keep the letters going I wrote my son everyday and he said that mail at the end of the night was what he looked forward to  so don't stop the letter.......I hope this helped ya'll a little

  • cboymom

Sorry I haven't posted a place for Fort Worth mom's. I kept dreaming that I posted but never did it while I was awake. I have the ideas for this Saturday: The Cup (coffee place on Camp Bowie), Brewed (coffee place by day, beer by night place on Magnolia), or Starbucks at Sundance Square. I'm thinking 2-4? Give me some feedback please.
  • lostmom

My daughter just started bc. I live south of Dallas.

  • J'sstepmom (Ship11/Div 305)

Donnasrcalhounsmom, where? My husband and I live in Avalon. About 40 minutes southwest of Dallas. :) our SR is about to graduate bc in a week! I would love to meet up and meet some mom's from around the Dallas area.
  • drmmom

Hello everyone! I'm from San Antonio and my son is is going on his 3rd week in boot camp.
  • lostmom

I live in little town of eustace.  Our kids are in the same ship. Ship 11. How many times have you heard from your son.

  • J'sstepmom (Ship11/Div 305)

We have heard from J 5 times including yesterday's "I'm a sailor" call. :)) several letters though. I love how his letters started out so somber but have really changed to happy and meeting so many friends. Each letter got better and better. And honestly? Boot camp really has gone by faster than I thought possible.
  • lostmom

This has to be the hardest thing I have ever had to do.  I miss her voice.  I still have not received any information on her.Her best friend went in 2 weeks earlier and her mom got a 40 minute call today.  She is home sick.  I just hope my girl is ok.

  • lostmom

    What is hell week

  • J'sstepmom (Ship11/Div 305)

Your baby girl is okay. They are breakdown. But they rely on each other to build one another back up. Hell week is usually week 4 and they call it that because they go through lots of inspections and tests. She will get through it. Just pray hard for her. Hope you hear from her soon. :)
  • JuliaM

Ladies, I was wondering if anybody from Dallas going to 11/14/14 PIR (Ship 14/Div 002)?

  • Easttexasnavymomma

  • MommaJ

Easttexasnavymomma: Howdy!  We are Austin area, and we'll be there the week before.  PIR 11/26 :) My SR is Ship 11 Div 024.   Have you watched any of the live streaming PIR's?  I did this morning...still have a month to go, but it was pretty cool!

  • JuliaM

  • RyansMom

Sitting at MEPS in downtown Houston. Swearing in very soon. Hello reality!
  • Melinda DC Norfolk, VA

Make sure when you go to Chicago, and you need a cab..that they have a gate pass.  Some will just drive you to the gate, then say I will wait for you..Well, we found out the hard way and had to walk about 20 minutes to sign my son out..it was very cold.  If you see those cabs parked at the "dock" they will take you to the gate for $4 and it is worth it.  Our favorite was a sweet fellow named Taupie he is with red and black I believe and he can go on base..Just a little tip for those who don't have a vehicle. Happy Thanksgiving from Whitewright, Texas (60 miles north of Dallas)

  • Melinda DC Norfolk, VA

That was last November 2013..Our son is now a DC on the Teddy Roosevelt in Norfolk...Hooyah

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Good luck ryansmom. Just remember no news is good news
  • mary
