Mine goes to South Carolina. I don't know which job but one has A school at Great Lakes across from the base. I will visit him about a month and a half after his classes begin when he is in phase 2 of school and will have some liberty time. It sucks, if I could I'd fly out the next day and spend the fourth of July with him, but you can't just go visit. There are a ton of rules.
  • ColleenJacksGirl (Ship07Div 245)

Yeah i hate all these rules, I feel like they should get to come home more. I have friends that are in the army and other military parts. and after bootcamp they got to come home for a little while. I feel like navy never gets to come home
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

Yeah it kind of sucks, but they have things they have to go get done. They can take a little leave after school. It stinks the most girlfriends can't move in with them lol! Are you two planning on getting married?
  • ColleenJacksGirl (Ship07Div 245)

Way later down the road. But u never no because of the Navy we might sooner then we think so i can be closer to him. Are u 2 planning on getting married?
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

We have been talking about it a whole lot. We most likely will before he finishes his last set of schooling so that I can be on his orders. I'm currently in College up in Chicago though so that poses a slight issue. It will be nice to finally sit down and talk about it with him in a few weeks, letters make communication hard.
  • ColleenJacksGirl (Ship07Div 245)

Yeah i can see how it would. I just feel like I know nothing right now. How long until u all got the letter saying when the graduation will be? And the address. does it come together or at different times. Yeah we have talked about it a lot too but i never wanted to get married this young but in the Navy u kinda want to more so u can be closer to them. Im going to hair school to when i get done we will prob talk about it more. Everything feels so different without him here.
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

It takes like a week and a half, all the info will be on there. Yeah the navy does change things quite a bit. I'm at a really good university up here, but I feel like I will have to choose, he's worth it though. It's hard but worth it.
  • ColleenJacksGirl (Ship07Div 245)

Yeah just make sure before u do it. Im scared honestly. I feel like im never going to get to see him. Idk how people do it but it looks like im going ot have to learn lol. Also people are talking about PIR and A school what is it? I dont no anything lol

  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

Yeah, well i would have married him navy or not, he would have waited longer but I am all for it! PIR = graduation, and A school is the schooling they get after basic depending on their job.
  • ColleenJacksGirl (Ship07Div 245)

well yeah we have always talked about getting married before he joined but now it will prob be sooner then we had talked about, Oh gotcha. I have been so confused about stuff lol
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

Yeah don't worry you will catch on, there's just a lot to learn. In like 2 weeks there will be a group made for other people with your graduation date. Join that.
  • ColleenJacksGirl (Ship07Div 245)

oh forreal? how do i find that?
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

Just keep an eye on the forums, it will show up at some point after people get the form letter. Someone will post a link.
  • ColleenJacksGirl (Ship07Div 245)

    under what forums?

  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

the bootcamp one, you can find it by clicking forums above then going to the one that says bootcamp. The group wont be up for like a week though I don't think.
  • ColleenJacksGirl (Ship07Div 245)

    oh ok thanks so much!

  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

no problem, let me know if you have more questions.
  • Soon2bNavyWife

I am new to the whole military lifestyle too, my fiance has been gone to Boot Camp for 11 days now.
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

Hi soon2bNavy wife! My boyfriend graduates in 19 days, so I have a little experience with this now. feel free to let me know if you have any questions(:
  • Soon2bNavyWife

I have a few, he has been gone for 11 days, shouldn't his parents have already received his form letter along with his address? (They have been on vacation all week this week tho) and I have heard its towards the 3rd week when you start receiving the first letter, is that somewhat accurate?
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

Yeah I got my first letter like 2.5-3ish weeks in. They come pretty regularly on Tuesdays now for me. The form letter comes in like a week and a half (again for me anyway) so it should be there any day now.
  • Soon2bNavyWife

Thanks, this is all new to me and Im trying to adjust. I guess it gets better once you start receiving letters, that's what im hoping for anyways.
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

    Yeah they help a lot.
  • Soon2bNavyWife

    Good to know (: Thanks
  • abuon18

Well, I'm not officially a BC girlfriend yet but will be soon, my boyfriend ships out on July 12, and I am not really sure what to expect!
  • florida_girl ship 3/div 235

I know as with everyone on this page probably knows what you are going through. It is going to be tough I won't lie, it was a big adjustment for me not talking to him everyday. The best thing I have found to do is write everyday... write about what you would normally talk about! If you have any other questions I would love to help, my bf has been gone for 3 weeks now. =)
  • abuon18

Thanks florida's girl & ry... his family is actually moving to another state before he leaves and are taking most of his things with him.... i've already claimed my favorite sweatpants and t-shirts though. it's cheesy but i'll probably keep his cologne too. I am just ready for it to be over and he hasn't even left yet, but I am excited about the letters!
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

You get used to him being gone, the first and last 2 weeks are the hardest. Mine's 21st birthday was yesterday, that was hard. My graduation he couldn't go to was hard also. Now though, I'm only 13 days from being in my sailors arms again and  can't wait. I haven't seen him since late april. It does get better as you get closer to the end, the last two weeks just take forever!
  • abuon18

Mine will be celebrating his birthday while in boot also, although his 24th not 21st! That will be hard for me because I'm a big believer in birthday celebrations and I will barely be able to acknowledge it... But I will have plenty of time to plan something for the weekend after his graduation since he is going to ATT in GL, from what I understand he will have the liberty (aside from the curfew) the whole weekend. I've never been to Chicago so I think it would be fun for both of us to be able to spend time in the city! Does anyone have suggestions of where places we should definitely take the time to go to?
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

The sears (I'm sorry willis...) tower has a skydeck, its a glass box hanging off the side of the building you can go on. Also there is Navy Pier, and Buckingham fountain, plus tons of shopping on Michigan Ave and State st.

  • abuon18

Shopping sounds perfect! lol....thanks for the suggestions Jessica!
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

No problem. I live in chicago, so if you have any local questions lemme know.
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

Hey anybody flying that needs plane tickets for PIR Southwest is doing a $40, $60, $80 flight deal for the next three days, DEFINITLY go check it out. Flights into chicago from most places are only $80/way

    http://www.southwest.com/html/travel-extras/promotions/air-40-years...

  • Kac46047

Jess thats a great deal! i remember something similar when my husband graduated. i think we got tickets for $70. Also Southwest doesnt charge for checking bags but it only flys into Midway. No biggie its about 45 mins away from greak lakes.
  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

Yeah, I live out here so I didn't need to book a flight, but for anyone that does that is a great deal. I wish I could book one to visit him at A school (he grads bc 07/01)l, but its too risky because I don't know when his classes start yet. Hopefully some august PIR people can use the promotion.
  • Kac46047

Jess i dont know if this would be true for your sailor's rating but i was able to see upcoming courses on his schools website. This gave us an idea of when he would start. He stared right away and sailors that got there a week later had to wait a month and a half for school to start. I googled his school from suggestion from another mom. Then i serched for course details and it was all there surprisingly.

  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

Mines a nuke :\ they tell nothing lol. I heard it can take up to a month to start classes, and sometimes only a week. He doesn't even know when they start yet.

  • Kac46047

haha yeah im expierenceing that now, My husband just got orders for a job that is highly classifyed and ungoogleable! i hate not knowing details but the job suits him.

I hope you find out soon, i remmber the first weekend i went to his A school it was like christmas

  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

I hope to visit before my school starts in late august. We both have our fingers crossed his school starts right away. I can't wait 8 more days until PIR!!
  • Kac46047

seriously I remember that last week. I happened to go back to college the week before his PIR. I dont think i paid attention to anything my teachers said. Then the snow storm of the century decided to come the night before my flight. Flight cancelled and the one i resecheduled after that got cancelled then finally i got on a flight and arrived in my hotel room around 2 am lol. I was not missing that PIR

I'm excited for you, i hope you have an awesome weekend! I know this tip is out there everywhere but get to that hall early. We only had 7 or 8 divisions graduate but that place was packed! We got some of the last seats for my sailors section

  • JessicaB-Sailor's Sweetheart<3

07/01 is the special centennial celebration. 11 divisions and a bunch of VIP's. Gates open at 4:30. I'll be waiting in front of the parking lot at 4. Not like I'm sleeping that night anyway haha.
  • abuon18

I guess I am officially a boot camp girlfriend now... Dropped him off at MEPS today and he ships out to GL tomorrow. SO excited and proud of him!!!
  • navygirl

Keria- My boyfriend left Monday around 9 and I got my last text from him around 12. Then his mama got "the call" at 4AM. She hasn't gotten the box or form letter yet though. I am so ready to know his division.

I started out doing really well with this whole no communication thing, but tonight it hit me and I'm not as sad as I am just frustrated and mad at this whole situation. I know I should think positively, but all I want to do is throw a pity party and be angry the Navy took my boyfriend- along with my heart- away! I don't know how to get through this!!

  • abuon18

navygirl-i'm SO glad you said that! my boyfriend left Monday as well so I guess we're pretty much in the exact same spot! This is the longest my bf and I have been apart in the year we've been together and the first couple of days I was alright but now it just really sucks and all I do is think about him and be sad and cry!
  • navygirl

Just got the letter Ship7/Div290! His PIR is Sept. 1... A week earlier than expected! The only problem is that is the day of my final exam and the day I move cross country to boston! So now I may not be able to go to PIR! It's gonna be crazy trying to figure out those plans!
  • abuon18

I'm glad you got his letter and can start writing to him now! I hope you can figure it out to go.... can you talk to your teacher and change your final exam?
  • Cassie ( Ship 12 Div. 295)

My SR left 7/12 for GL and I am desperately waiting to recieve anything, his box, his form letter, anything!! I cant wait to get his address and graduation date! So if anyone else has  a loved one who also left this day recieves any of their stuff will you be kind enough to let me know and if I recieve anything I could do the same. I am just going crazy wondering how long I will have to wait and I have heard everything from one week to a month.
  • navygirl

My class is online and sept 1 is the very earliest I can take it. I think I'm going to try and take it in Chicago while his family is at PIR and I will just see them after. Really sucks- but I wasn't going to be able to see PIR anyways bc he is goving his mom, dad, and grandparents the seat (I was so bummed!!). And I have to be in Boston at 9am on the 2nd, so It's going to be a wild weekend, but if I don't see him before he goes to A school I may just die!!!
  • abuon18

Cassie-my SR left Monday (7/11) for GL. We should have the same PIR! So I will definitely let you know if I hear anything (his box & letter are going to his parents). I'm going crazy too I never thought it would be this hard! But the days are just dragging until I have his address & PIR date!
Navygirl-wow that is tough! I hope you are able to get it all figured out! It hasn't even been a full week that I haven't seen my SR & I'm already going crazy! I can't imagine possibly not seeing him before his next school either! But A school is more lenient so there is the possibility you could visit him there for a weekend!
  • erinlynn87(7/289)

hey ladies! My fiance also left 7/11/11 and PIR is 9/1/11!! 7/289!
