You are not alone. We have all been there. Sometimes that helps and sometimes it doesn't.

Everyone of us has a unique relationship with their sailor.

Keep in touch and let us know how it is going. We will all be there for you.

Thanks Joeys mom. Thanks for the advice, I sure will! San Antonio is a great place! We meet some sailors about 3 weeks ago at the Mall and at hey were talking with my son about boot camp. Really nice guy's. I'm sad but happy at same time. He's my one and only, and empty nester at 44. I work full time and married. It just going to be weird without him here!
    Thanks again :)

  • Proud 1 ship 13 Div 070

It will go quickly. My son just had PIR 1-24. You will be amazed just how fast things go. They keep the SR busy. It is worth it all to get to see the changes in your child. Write lots of letters. Soon you will be telling is about your Sailor
  • Bonnie-Codysmom

From someone who has had three go in.. The heartbreak is there but I figure they eventually go on anyway. What better way than a good "company", good benefits, they are being watched over. The Navy is very good about that. And you will have unbelievable proud moments coming your way.

BUT GET BUSY NOW, joing a group in your area that supports the military, find or start a group that sends care packages. Get involved. You should establish your suppport group before he leaves so it is there when he goes. Also, as proud as you will be and how hard boot camp is, deployments are hard too. Take care of yourself so you can take care of him. Also, start doing things with your husband. Empty nest can throw a wrench in to everything. It is all good. We have all gone through it and we have survived. You are stronger than you think you are and we are hear for you.  BY the way it is easy for me to say all of this now, but I remember what is was like. I remember crying in his room after he left for days. So we are all here for you.

  • Johna

I'm so happy I have a place to express my feelings to people who understand.  My sailors flight was cancelled so we got to spend an extra day and a half together. the day is here though, he leaves late afternoon for his duty station and I'm not doing very well, as it will be a long time until we see him again, and he will be a long way from home.  I pray that I don't cry at the airport!  this does not get easier.

  • Johna

Very true Joey's momma, he's there now, so hard to believe he was here yesterday and now he's many miles away! Just fyi, I did pretty good, I just cried a little.  I was proud of myself

  • lupner88

Two days left... leave tomorrow for MEPS, then see him off at the airport on MON.  Can't believe its right here, so close.  Seems like it crept up without notice.  But I know he will be where his dream is... and that makes me smile.

  • Mother of 4

My son leaves on Wed for BC, but has to report to MEPS on Tues and with 4-8 inches of snow forecasted for Tues it will be an early "See ya later" for me!

  • Bonnie-Codysmom

mine left sunday....missing him like crazy!!  the tears continue to fall but I feel a bit better today....hope everyone is doing ok.....lots of prayers for us all...

  • HuntersMom

  • Defoe'sMom (Ship 13, Div 164)

My son left 3/11/14 for Great Lakes. He called me around 10:30 pm and sounded sad. I sure do miss him.

  • Defoe'sMom (Ship 13, Div 164)

  • 1awsumway

    Hello Everyone,
Our son left on March 5th, 2014 and arrived at BC 3-7-14. I send letters daily since we received his form letter on Monday, 3-17-14. No letters back from him yet. I miss him so much, even more than I ever knew......It helps me to read that other moms are going through this too. It's a new chapter for our sons and us. Maybe it's the old cliche... No pain, no gain, lol. I've cried a river for sure and really hope tears are the river of life. Ok, enough of philosophy. I really miss him!

    Hi.

Our son is 23 and ships to GL on June 10, 2014.

    We live in South Jersey.

Glad to find this site. I am gonna need it!

  • Navy mom 49

Catharine good luck to your son!
  • wendye

    Hi everyone,

My son is currently in A-school, and we've recently learned that his first orders will be inland and stateside.

I just sent my first care package - some practical stuff, some home made treats, some notes from friends, and some silly things (like a straw with a cheesy mustache attached to the top).  Any suggestions for the next one?

  • MarieKon

My daughter Tiffany left for Bootcamp June 3 2014 graduates july 25.everything is going so fast then I had a son who left the beginning of Jan 2014 for Peace Corps I am so proud and miss them Both

  • wendye

    Catherine,

You won't hear much while your son is at GL, but the time does fly.  My son is also 23, and he was considered one of the "old guys" in his group.  His maturity was appreciated by leadership.  If you have the opportunity to go to graduation, my advice is go!

  • MomofHAN

My son left for BC yesterday (6/9).  He is 23 and I already miss him like crazy!

  • Island Girl

    Hi Wendye,

How soon after they get to "a" school, do they find out where he will be stationed?  Just wondering?  Thx,

  • wendye

Peter's Mom SHIP 02 DIV 936 - It depends.  In A school, my son was the only one in the field he was training for, so he knew quite early.  If there are several sailors training for the same field, they may not learn until the last couple of weeks, and there may be competitions for sailors to make requests among the options.

  • scubagirl

doodlebug, my son is 22 and is on Ship 3, Div 230. He and one other guy looked older at his swearing in but I agree most of the guys looked like babies.  What ship is you son on?  My son does not turn 23 until Jan, 2015.  Where are you all from?

  • scubagirl

We are in GA. Lots of TX and CA people on here.  Not so much for us moms from GA.  I guess they are not active on the different groups.  I had a friend whose son joined last year that told me about this site and my son also told me about the site.

  • Brand'sMom

I leave in Southern  California. My son is leaving to Boot-camp July 29th. I  like to share about my son as a future sailor and read about other sailors experiences. Also would like  to find a support group of  Navy Mom in Southern CA.

Hey moms, my sr is on ship 12 div 322. Are there any Georgia moms in this group? Would love to get to know everyone. I'm certain our daughters have met and are encouraging each other to stay focused.
  • ProudMom13

My son just left for boot camp only 2 weeks ago on Sept 11. My family and I are very proud of him, but we miss him so much. His DIV is 359 so I hope there's someone that has a son in the same area so we can correspond. I have so many questions.

  • Navy brat/mom

Our son just got his ship date!! Now the count down for March 12th begins...
