My son is in A school in Missouri right now but likely headed to Guldport in August for combat school. Does anyone know how long combat school lasts? We just don't yet for sure if that's where he's going. Just curious.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

RobinM: My son completed combat school in Gulfport in March...it lasted appx 30 days.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Tyler made a Seabee of the Week in Aghan...So proud of him and can't wait for him to be back in the USA!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Jean C: Yes Tyler's with 133...he was GMSN...and I'll ask about the Chief..I'm sure if he knows him...he'll never forget a pink flamingo!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Jean C: Now I'm curious....why did he get a pink flamingo and fancy flyswatter?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Very cute Jean C....tyler would dis-own me if I sent stuff like that.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

cjt's mom: When Tyler finished Combat Training in Gulfport at the end of March 2010, there was no ceremony.

Son's baby is due in a little over 3 weeks. He has 2 grandparents at the very ends of their lives--my step dad and hubby's mom. Even though he LOVES the base and climate in Guam compared to HoA, he's miserable. Please pray for him.
  • Barbara C

Kelley, I'm praying for him, you, and your family.
  • RobinM

Kelly...our prayers are with you all and your family! J'smom. Did you get to see my Seabee too?? He's there with in MO with your son I believe. We were going to head over, but decided against it since we're going for graduation and then bringing him home. Does your son have his orders yet. Mine says he's still waiting on his. I haven't been on here for a few days. Nice to see what's going on and catch up with everyone!!! Good thoughts and prayers for all our Seabees!!!

Question, for the state of Missouri, what jobs are the Sea Bee's learning. I noticed that the construction crew tends to go South. Can anyone tell me what job goes where just interested?

Sorry, I am new at all this. What does a EA do? Is this like drafting buildings on computer and paper? and EO Is this the Heavy equipment operator... Just curious where my son might go to for his A school training.
  • RobinM

Hello...my son is in MO as an EO...equipment operator. Atlhough we don't have hard copy orders, his chief told him he will be stationed in Gulfport and deploying in December. Still waiting on the details. Just not sure I was prepared for this to come so quickly. He's only been in since March. God will protect!
  • Mary, Proud Mom of Nick

    Hi all,
We have a BUCA reservist in the family and he just got his orders to report to Gulfport in August and then they are heading to A'stan. Does anyone know how long the training is in Gulfport and if they get any leave before report to A'stan? Thanks.
  • Kelleypen

    Happy Independence Day!

  • Mary, Proud Mom of Nick

Congrats to your son Joanie! How wonderful he could share photos of this special day.
  • RobinM

Congrats Joanie!! How awesome! Just got back from a wonderful 4th with my Seabee in MO. He's doing really well at A school and headed to Gulfport in August for combat school. It was so great seeing him and seeing what he's doing and how well they are all doing. We should all be so very proud (and I know we all are) of how our Navy is training these Seabees! I'm so proud of my son and all those serving...so very proud!!!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Glad you got to see your son Robin....Combat school in Gulfport in August????Tell him to be ready for hot and humid...it's been a scorcher down here this year. Just a few weeks until Tyler's back in country and in Gulfport....can't wait!
  • RobinM

Hey Joanie. He's ready for Gulfport. When he was in the Sea Cadets, he did a two week training down there for Seabees....he knows what to expect. Thanks for the info and congrats on your son heading home soon!! I'll be praying for safe trips!!
  • RobinM

Thanks j'smom. It was just so awesome to see him and know he's doing so well.
  • Kim

Hi seabee moms - I have a question for you from my seabee. He has a crease in his dress whites and he cant iron it out, has tried washing it and the crease is still there. He needs it ready for a change in command ceremony. I suggested he take it to an off base cleaners because the cleaners on base he wouldn't have it back in time.
  • Kelleypen

Son and his whole WW group has dysentery... they are drinking bottled water, but that doesn't include bathing, washing food, and cooking . . . otherwise, he says Phonm Penh is beautiful.
  • Kim

Thank you Joanne I will tell him to find a cleaners off base> Kim
  • Kim

We had a wonderful visit with our son in Gulfport, MS. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Long Beach, MS. A beautiful town and the hospitality was exceptional. It was good to see that our boy has found a beautiful home in the South. I haven't heard from him has his uniform has turned out. He has complained to his sister that I text him too much so now I wait for him to text me.
  • Kim

I did texted him today to check to see how his uniform came out and he says he picks it up tomorrow. But I will remember the idea of of a wet hand towel for the future.
  • RobinM

Hello everyone. My son is almost done with A school then headed to Gulfport for his combat school and that will likely be his home. I guess right now, the rumors are that he will be going to Spain instead of Afghan....which is better if that's the case. I know God will watch over him and all our Seabees no moatter where they go. I am so thankful for this group too!!

Hey Jae I see you made the train to graduation and back!! I thought of you the whole time and kept thinking you were going to give birth right there on the train!! I looked for you in Chicago, but there were so many people!! My daughter went to Wichita Falls Texas also. She called this morning and said "it was hot as balls!!" lol
  • RobinM

Leaving Wed. for our son's graduation on Fri from his A school. Can't wait!! Looking forward to having him home for a bit.
  • RobinM

Hello everyone. I suggest, if you haven't done so already, is become members of the hotel sites. We are of www.choicehotels.com which is all Comfort Suites, Quality Inn, etc. You can get discounts on rooms and accumulate points for free stays. We also generally stay at Country Inn and Suites, www.countryinns.com. These are our favorites, however they don't have any close to Ft. Leonard Wood. We actually stayed in Rolla for this graduation because it was considerably cheaper. We tend to stay in the same chain of hotels because we know typically we can trust that they will be nice and clean. I also have memberships with Avis car rental for the same reasons. We almost always rent a car if it's going to be a distance away from us. I start checking pricing and make reservations as early as possible. Then check every couple of weeks or so...this will typically get you a cheaper price as well. The prices change depending on when you check. I have memberships with a couple of airlines, but haven't had to fly anywhere yet. We typically just drive. Hotels.com is also good to check what's in the area, but I typically don't buy from them cause you have to pay in advance and they usually don't have a cancellation policy to get your money back. Things tend to change and you need that freedom. I have found too that if you find a price on line, then call the hotel directly, sometimes they will give you a better price directly...only sometimes. Usually on line is the best price and that's how you accumulate your points towards free nights. Also, with Country Inn and Suites, they allow you to use some points along with money (points + cash they call it) and you can sometimes just get a really low rate doing that. Thanks for all the good luck and wishes. We are very excited to go get our son!! My prayers are always with you and your Seabees!! I hope this info helps!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

    Seabees....they are a-coming....can't wait!
  • Kelleypen

Off to Gulfport today to be there at my granddaughter's arrival! (Wish son could be there too)
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Jean C: Thanks...but Tyler wasn't in that group....we have several more flights to come in....Tyler will be in the last group in several weeks.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Joanne: I'd like that link to see the seabees land in Maine also, if you find it.
  • Barbara C

Hi everyone. Kelly have a safe trip and enjoy the grand baby. I am remembering your family in my prayers.

Kim, I was wondering if the cleaners were able to remove the crease in the whites. I use white vinegar. I get the crease wet with it then iron. This only works for polyester.
  • Kim

Congratulations to all that have their Seabees coming home. I would love to see the pictures too if possible.

Barbara - yes the cleaners were able to get the crease out.
  • debbie7606

My daughter just started A school in Wichita Falls TX...she says it's nice but it's hot as balls!!! He'll be fine!!
  • Kim

Wendy our Prayers are with you and your son.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Just heard on news: 2 American Seabees captured by Taliban around Kabul...possibly on Friday......anyone have more info?
  • Much Trouble

That is about all I have heard. Various news sources are offering all kinds of speculation, but no one seems to really know much. Keep remembering that "NO news is 'good' news"...and please tell me how to remove the rock I feel in my stomach.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Same rock here....Tyler is still there...almost to end of his deployment....most of his battalion are already home....haven't heard from him since Thursday.
  • Kelleypen

Many virtual hugs and prayers from me.
  • Much Trouble

My son called his wife, so I am able to breathe again, but I am still sick at heart. Every person we have over there seems to be "my kid" in a small way. I am following the news closely, and saying prayers for for all of them...and for all of us, too. At times like these, I think our job is harder than theirs is.
  • Tobianne

Kathryn I too work midnights and was watching all night and I also saw what you saw. I just hope peace can come to these families and those involved will not do anymore than what has already been done.

My prayers are out to the families and the whole Navy this is a sad day indeed for us.
  • hotflashes

My son just left for bc, but I can only imagine how I would feel. My heart and my prayers go out to the families of these men.
  • hotflashes

Jessica B, No I did not receive my form letter yet, soon I hope, but he only left on the 21st. so I am sure it will be a bit longer. Thanks for the info on the PIR group! I really like this site, everyone is so helpful. I will try the bc group too, thanks, Joanne.
