Jean, it's ok you take care of your husband and make sure he gets better he will be in our prayers.
Ladies sometime today I will ask my other Navy moms how we can get addresses for Seabees, and will let you gals know what I find out tonight.
  • hotflashes

Liongirl, after u find out about addresses for seabees I am going to ask my daughter who is an assist principal at an elementary school if her school would like to participate and send letters, maybe adopt a group of seabees. I think that might be a nice idea if we can get that off the ground.
  • liongirl3502(ship10Div331)

    That would be so sweet!
  • Much Trouble

BTW...Are we talking about ALL Seabees, those stationed out of the country, the ones in a "war zone", or what? (It doesn't matter to me...I support ALL Seabees...ALL Navy, ...ALL U.S. Military people.)
  • hotflashes

Much trouble, I am not sure we will have a say in which ones, I think this will all have to be cleared with the navy and they will decide for us.. I would think anyway . When my daughter was still a teacher , she had her class write to soldiers, but I think the names were given to her. I will talk to her tonite.

Ladies below is the information I got from Carla:
You have the address of one Seabee. You have the address of most of them. What you do is you let that person know to set the box out. Also, find the address of the Chaplain. You will have the address of your son, or who ever has a Seabee. Then you just send it to them. Also, you know the address, write instead of the sailors name, put "Chaplain." That's all I know how to do. I hope it works! We do have a navymom with a son who is a Seabee who is just getting deployed in our group. My guess is that in the navy4moms group you also have some. Let me know.
  • liongirl3502(ship10Div331)

I think it would be better to have a mom of a Seabee who is deployed, recieve the box my future Seabee has PIR on 10/8 and then he is headed to A school in Port Hueneme, so if there is a Seabee mom with someone deployed please respond, we want to send Holiday Cheer their way.

Hi ladies. My husband just changed his job from Diver to Seabee. He is in GL for about 3 more weeks and then transfers to Sheppard AFB. He is so ready to get there, because right now he is basically a sitting duck. I am also moving to Sheppard AFB in about 3 1/2 weeks. I am excited to finally be back with my husband after a long time apart. It's exciting to begin our future together! I'm also glad that I have this group to come to for questions and other things in regards to Seabees. I'm doing my research, of course, but sometimes there are those unanswered questions that only someone who's been there, done that can answer!
  • LynB

Here's another question - are any of y'alls sailors undesignated or entered the Seabees undesignated and then struck for a rating? We're still puzzling over why my kid is being assigned to Seabees as an undesignated seaman. Expect it means he's going to be chipping a whole lot of paint...but hoping there will be opportunity there for him to prove his skills and advance.
  • joj

PLEASE HELP! Granddaughter wrote her Mom today, saying "remember, there can only be 4 at my PIR. I am sure that I had read that others in the family could come, that there would be extra seats from the sailors whose families couldn't make it. I need to know for sure, as we don't want to go and then find we can't get in. HELP!
  • LynB

Hmm...so will my kid be a sailor or a seabee since he won't have a rate and is currently a seaman being assigned to a Seabee unit?
  • liongirl3502(ship10Div331)

Nitabee, Sounds good. Tonight is Battle Stations for him so extra prayer's please ladies.
  • liongirl3502(ship10Div331)

I hope so too I'm on pins and needles just waiting.
  • joj

Granddaughter called her mom at about 3:45! Our seabee said that only about 2/3 of the division are left. How sad. She said after all the calls were made they were going back and going to sleep again for awhile, and she did all this with Mono!
  • Twin Sailors Mom

I am new to this group; I am trying to get information about the Seabee life. My daughters are in BC now and will be heading to Gulf Port after PIR 10/29/10. I miss them terribly and it is starting to sink in that they are not coming home after BC.
  • Twin Sailors Mom

My daughters are in the Performing Division and said their first graduation they will be performing in is 10/8 so if anyone is going to PIR 10/8 and you see twin girls give them a hug for me! They are in the wedge, whatever that is, they are a group of 3 somewhere in the center.
  • Tobianne

Twinsmom, awe I feel your pain as does every other momma/wife here. This is such an awesome thing they have done and to be together what a great thing. I was not so lucky my kids (not twins) did not want to be in BC together so Now I relive this whole thing again. You will see once in A-school, they can call home. I talk to my daughter like 3-4 times a day and texts are so nice, until they forget they were texting you and send you someone else's text and you then are confused... lol I feel better now, and my kiddo was in Bc for 39 days past her PIR as she was sick and in ship 6. So I went crazy....
  • Twin Sailors Mom

I can't wait until I can talk to them more, we have such a close relationship and not talking to them is hard. Your one daughter is in A-school and the other is at BC now? I noticed you are from Canton, I lived in Canton for 10 years and grew up in Alliance. I was just in Canton yesterday for my niece's birthday!
  • DorothyM-seabeemom

Hi eveyrone! New here. My son just got to Port H last week from bootcamp, but isn't scheduled to start A school until oct 12th, i believe. so far he's liking California. hoping with the nicer weather maybe he can finally get over the cold he had for most of the time at GL.
Hope you all have a great day!
  • hotflashes

Hi Dorothy, Welcome! My son got to Port H the 23rd Of September and his classes were to start today! My sons PIR date was 09/17 and yes the weather is better in Ca. They all seemed to get sick in BC.
  • liongirl3502(ship10Div331)

Dorothy, My son's PIR is 10/8 and he is Grad and Go so I only get a few hours with him after PIR and then again at the airport....I'm wondering if they will start their classes together.

Twinsmom, if I see your twinkies I will give 'em' a hug for their momma.
  • Twin Sailors Mom

liongirl - Thank you!!! Got letters from them today and they said they are in the middle of the 900 Division. Got tears in my eyes! Ha-ha
  • Tobianne

Kym- my daughter just arrived in TX she is also a CE
  • Kelleypen

If my son's tour in D'jibouti is any example, tell him to take his computer and leave his phone.
  • DorothyM-seabeemom

Good morning everyone! thank you for the nice welcome :) after reading a few of the posts here i know i still have a lot to learn about all this. i didn't realize there were so many different variations to being a seabee. my son is a CM.
  • ronbri22

Welcom dorothyM39 my son is also a cm. He is in port hueneme. The support here at navy for moms is so awesome. If you have any questions just post and the support and info you get is incredible. I wish I would of found this 3 years ago when he went to boot camp. lol But I have it now. I also have a group for nmcb 4. check it out.
  • SeabeeWife20

My husband will be leaving GL for A school in Texas soon. My more curious side is wondering where we are going to get PCS to after his A school is over. Anyone have any clue where UT's generally get stationed after A school? I know that Gulfport and Port H are the most common bases (or so it seems) for Seabee's, but thought maybe someone would have an idea which one is more common for UT.
  • Kelleypen

cjt's mom---They do have internet there. Calling home isn't something he did. We did Skype regularly. He's in Guam now, his second deployment. He likes Guam much better than he did Africa. He loved getting books and letters and things to do, like drawing supplies, cards, etc. He complained because he couldn't find any beef jerky in Africa. I tried sending him chocolate at Easter, but that was a big mistake---it arrived melted all over everything else. Too hot in Africa to send chocolate.
  • DorothyM-seabeemom

ronbri22, my son is also at Port H. he just got there last wednesday, but doesn't start school until this coming Tuesday i believe. thank you for the welcome :)
  • Tobianne

Hi Robin- it has been some time. My daughter is in TX for her A-school she should finish up in January. She is sure from there she is off to Gulf port for 28 days. Then who knows. If you do not remember she is going to be a CE, and my son wanted to go Navy diver and he spoke with your husband, who turned him onto Seabee diver. My son has 35 days left in BC and now is hoping at some point to change his rate from GSM to Seabee, as possibly a BU or anything with the welding or building category. I still think he wants to go diver though. He is just not sure of the ability to do this. He does still know he is capable of it, physically.
  • SeabeeWife20

Robin-that makes sense...I guess I'll just have to wait and see. My husband was in the Dive program, but he really wanted to be a Seabee...so I believe he may now go for Seabee Diver. He's just trying to get his foot in the door with Seabee's first and then will go from there. Thanks for your response, though =)
  • Jaz04

sailorwife, my son finishes A school in Gulfport as a BU. What rate is your husband?
  • LuvMySeabee(Joyce)

Hi there Sailorwife! My son just finished A school in Gulfport as a Seabee...What kind of info are you looking for?
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

    HI moms!
A mom just posted on Sailor Rescue List that she's looking for help for her daughter who's headed to Gulfport (not an emergency, buy the way, just looking for a welcome and friends). Is there a group for Gulfport moms? Thanks!
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

NitaBee, you're wonderful - but I already knew that!! I've given her the group link and hopefully you'll see her soon! btw, it's her granddaughter, not daughter :) Thanks so much ~
  • liongirl3502(ship10Div331)

Hey there, my son just arrived at Port Hueneme he doesn't start class until the 18th anyone else out there with this same schedule.
  • Jaz04

Seabee wife - my son has been telling me weekly the new things they are working on. Do you know they will actually build in small building and take it back down? I had read that on another site, but it is more fun to listen to him tell me. I will be there next week, so I will tell you how the area is.
  • mom2nw

Just thought I'd say hi to my new group...my son is due to arrive at FLW tomorrow. We had a wonderfully long weekend following PIR on Friday.
  • Jaz04

Is there a group for NMCB7?
  • Jae[Seabee Wife]

Has ne of ur husbands/sons Ben thru Ecs (combat training) yet? I'm tryna get sum info about it like if they have weekends off? R they allowed their phones? Do they have liberty of sum sort? Any info is appreciated thank u n advance :-)
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Jae:My son went thru ECS at Gulfport in March 2010..he was allowed all electronics...they live in barracks for ECS divisions...he came home every weekend (about 2 1/2 hours away), so they did have weekends off/free at that time. Good luck to your sailor.
  • mom2nw

My son is heading to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Anyone else there??
  • Jae[Seabee Wife]

  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

  • julieb

mom2nw my daughter will be going to Ft Leonard wood on the 21st.
  • mom2nw

I had asked in our PIR group if there was anyone going to Fort Leonard Wood and no body (but my son??) It's going to take me a few days to read back on this site, but I've gained some insight from what I've read so far. I guess right now, I want to know ~~what comes next?~~~ (A school) And what will he be doing? He is EO. And what kind of helpful hints can you give me transitioning from BC to A school? (and this specific A school). thanks in advance!!
  • julieb

hi mom2nw, my daughter is an EO as well and is going to Fort L. I know her training there is 9 weeks. thats about all i know.

  • Tobianne

Fort Lost in the Woods... That has been its nick name for I do not even know how long, since before my dad was in the Army. That was back in the early 60's lol...
It is a nice base. Many Marines are on that base also. My kiddo's best friend is a Marine and he was there for A-school.
  • mom2nw

well, I just got a call from my son...waiting at O'Hare for an hour long flight to MO then he said a bus ride for 130 miles...so the bus ride is longer than the plane!?..Can't wait to tell him the Fort Lost in the Woods...LOL sure sounds like it. He's very excited though, to 'get going' after basic.
