Kim: My son never gave permission for me to talk to the Ombudsmen...They are there for all the families....you just give the Ombudsman his battalion, name, rate and rank and they'll tell you what you want to know...you can get the Ombudsmen info from their Facebook page or just google his battalion and the website should come up for the FRG for that battalion...I don't know what battalion he is in but if he is in 133 I can give you the Ombudsmen info.
I've been in contact with my son's Ombudsmen. She's great! She even had the Chaplin check up on him at FTX and he just called me today. So far I am very impressed with the support.
Thanks ladies, I will look into this. If ever finds out that I have this information, he could be very upset with me. He seems to be a lot like his mom haha. He is battalion 1. You know what is really funny, there are 3 seabee moms here in town and I believe they are all with different battalions!
Cudawn....thanks! I am hoping he will change his mind like you say. He has already told me that he will fill out the Power of Attorney before the next deployment, so I take that as a good sign. As far as not committing to anything for a whole month on his return, I can totally understand that as that also happened as he was being deployed. The date kept changing and we took a big chance of being with him the week he deployed. I wish he would have let us go on base to see him off but thats okay we were able to have breakfast that morning and that's good enough for me. Oh and thanks for the info on the airline tickets too because we have no idea how to fly or purchase tickets lol
I haven't been on for a little bit doing any commenting but I try to read and learn. I will be on here more and more commenting as my sons first deployment comes. I wish there was info for everything a mom needs to know but doesn't know what to ask about deployment. Anyway, I just got to see my Seabee this weekend for three days. He drove up here to Ohio to be the best man in his brothers wedding. Then he finally told them the secret he told me to keep. I was about to bust. He was going to propose to his girlfriend the night of the rehearsal and he did and she said yes. We are cherishing every happy moment we can right now between now and deployment time.
Great information, Denise. I haven't been on for so long. We are dealing with our first deployment and it's been ok. Thank God for modern technology. Hearing his voice and occasionally using skype, when it works, is a godsend. We made sure all debt was paid off and he will be back before taxes. He's excited he's saving money and is so excited about buying a car when he gets back. I will always worry about his (their) safety but that's the job. I'm soon going back to school (work) and my mind will be busy with other things. Thanks to all your stories and information. Sounds like you know alot. Love those Seabees!
KTSSONG: Congratulations on one son's wedding and other son's engagement.
ANNE-MARIE: There is a lot of that going around. My son just PIRed 7/22 and two guys from his division just got married...shocker for one's parents not so much for the others...both gf's only 18. Matters of the Heart...what's a Mom to do?
Anne-Marie...Welcome to the Navy. It's not uncommon for men or women to go out and get married without notice. I guess they feel like they need a companion while they are going through all the changes. I also believe a lot of people do it for the money and opportunity to move into a house or apartment, but they can't say that obviously. I do know my husband was one of only a few who were in boot camp and married (in his division at least). The other guys were often jealous of him because he received letters regularly and had no real worries of me leaving him or cheating on him while he was there. The guys with girlfriends worry about "Dear John's" and usually don't see a lot of support from the girlfriends because the girlfriends are unable to handle those 2 months of him being gone. They also make the rash decision to get married so the girlfriend can be on the orders to the duty station before A school is over. I am young and my husband is younger.....but we were together for 5 years before we got married. We had plans on getting married before he joined the military, but decided to tie the knot before he left for boot camp. We also had support from both families, who also expected us to get married. We have a home and a dog, but other than that we are enjoying life and not rushing things. I know it's probably not the best news in the world for you.....but he is a grown man now and will have to learn by making his own decisions :-/
I on the other hand am anxious for these next few months to happen.....my husband is still *hopefully* scheduled to come home in November ( a month early!!). I am currently working part time and going to school full time. There still just isn't enough to keep my mind off missing him, lol. I started school Monday....5 classes. I have 2 on campus classes and 3 online classes. I have attended all of my classes and completed all of my homework for the first week of school. I am now going to begin working on the 2nd week of schoolwork. I guess it's better to be ahead than behind, but I was hoping this would really keep me occupied.
Thanks for the information Denise, it is very helpful! I have a question and hope you can help. We have our sons car here in Michigan while he is deployed, his car is registered in Mississippi and the tags may expire while he is deployed, will that cause any problems? We have his car insured with our insurance company.
Have you received the notice for his registration to be updated? You should be able to pay it over the internet or by mail. It will go to the local County Tax Assessor's Office. If you go to this link http://www.co.harrison.ms.us/ it gives you information about the Harrison county tax offices. That is the county the Seabee base is in. Then if you click online services, then pay auto/property tax it should take you here https://www.pay1stop.com/renewtag/ms/. This should be where you can input his information and re-register his vehicle. The only thing I would suggest is to call and talk to someone first. He is military so he doesn't have to pay the crazy fees like most people do. Our registration for our new car was $29, instead of hundreds of dollars like other people. He will need a safety inspection, but if he waits until he's back in the state he can get that for $5. They won't know it's expired unless he gets pulled over lol. I hope this helps but let me know if you need any other information :D
My husband has been driving it because of all of the work he's been doing on it (rebuilding it). When our son bought it, it was really a junk car but it was the kind he has always wanted so we decided to rebuild it for him as a Christmas present. We plan on putting it in storage before the snow comes and when he comes home it will be wrapped with a big bough on it. Thanks SeabeeWife20 and Denise. I will see if if registration papers will come here?
AnnMarie, well, you kind of knew that was coming (from our conversations). I hope all goes well for them. Steven is still intending on looking for him. This will give him even more reason to since just proposed this past weekend. They are flying "home" on the 9th for 12 days, so it will be good to get to know Kristin. She seems like a smart young lady. Told my son they wouldn't rush the wedding because I can't just fly down real quick and she wants to make sure that I am there as well as his grandfather. So they are going to wait until after his deployment - thank God. This will give them time to enjoy being engaged and plan a nice wedding. So I better make sure to save up my vacation time.
It's been pretty quiet in here lately. Just thought I would stop by and say hi. My husband will *definitely* be home in November now!! I can't wait for that day I get to wrap my arms around him. I'm not going to be able to let him go. I am also doing welcome home signs for some of his friends whose families aren't going to be here when they arrive. I want everyone to feel welcomed back to the states. I can't wait to have my husband and his friends back home....my house will go back to chaos, just the way I like it :D Hope you all are doing well and had a Happy Labor Day.....ours was wet down here in Gulfport thanks to Tropical Storm Lee. Goodnight all!
For anyone who rides and is in California....there is a ride this Sunday from Pt. Mugu to Pepperdine U. Here is some info.

More information may be found at the Ride to the Flags website: http://www.ridetotheflags.com/ and Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/ridetotheflags
How exciting SeabeeWife20! I also like your comment about making signs for his friends. I hope someone is so gracious to our son when he returns because he won't have anyone there to greet him when he returns.
Kim, what battalion is he in and when does he return? I will gladly make him a sign on your behalf. They are 2x2 wood signs. They are $5 each (typically) and are posted at the entrance of the base so when they arrive in they can see them. If you want me to do it, just message me and let me know. We can go over the details of what you want the sign to say and look like also. I am having some of my girlfriends help me out, so it may not be me who does the sign but it will be done if you request it!! Looking forward to hearing from you :D
SeabeeWife20, he is with Battalion one and doesn't return for a few months. I'm not sure of when yet. I'll message you soon. I wish I there to help with this. It's sounds fun. What battalion is your husband in?
Ten years ago today I was driving to work. I had just dropped my kids off at school and was on my way when I turned on the radio and heard what was happening: two jets had just crashed into the World Trade Center. Tears began streaming down my face as I listened to the horrific report. Soon I was crying hard enough that I had to pull over to the side of the road. Then I felt a peace. I heard the last verse of the national anthem in my mind. I had never memorized it before, but I knew it. I sang it softly. O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation; Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the heav’n-rescued land Praise the Pow’r that hath made and preserv’d us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!” And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
I felt a comforting presence and a warning–this would affect my then 14 year old son. He would serve his country in the war this would cause. I didn’t say a word to anyone about the second part. I didn’t want to jinx it. My son enlisted shortly after his 19th birthday. I wasn’t surprised. He deploys again this winter.
In June, our Chorale sang Rene Clausen’s Memorial in the Lincoln Center. It is an incredibly moving and emotionally difficult piece of music. We received a standing Ovation from New Yorkers. We perform it again tonight.
When the 1200 seat auditorium was out of tickets after the first day they were available, we put in a second concert. That one sold out too. We’re going to have a busy, but emotional evening.
Kelleypen - I understand what you said. Ten years ago, my two oldest sons (16 & 15) were paging in our state senate with two friends (also 16 & 15) that lived down the street. My sons had walked to their house so that their mother could take them to the capitol. They called shortly after they arrived and told me to turn the news on the TV. I did and we watched in horror at the events that were unfolding. My friend (the other mother) told me that the four of them were pacing the floor talking about where they could go to join to fight whoever had just done this to our country. The capitol was closed so they did not go to page and they spent the rest of the day looking for something that they could do to help. They were not even old enough to donate blood.
Today, my friend's son is a Marine serving his second deployment in Afghanistan. Her daughter is a police dispatcher in a large police department in another state and her husband is a policeman.
Our oldest son is a firefighter. Our second son is in the Army National Guard and has just left for OBT. These were the four that day that needed to find a way to serve.
Our third son is in the Marine Reserves (the quickest way into the USMC according to his recruiter) preparing to activate and deploy next year to Afghanistan. Our youngest son is my SeaBee in 133.
Old Glory still waves over the land of the free because of the brave!
My son PIR'd back in May. He has been at "A" school but has now had to choose a new rating. He got BU and just arrived in Gulfport this evening. He is a reservist and had wanted SW or BU in the Seabee Community originally when he enlisted. We are thankful that he was retained and offered a new rating!
He has arrived for the weekend and so has so far just been to his barracks. He arrived after chow and said that he may not go anywhere without a buddy. Thankfully, some of the Sailors shared pizza with him...so if your Sailors are one of them...thank you! It just makes a mom "feel good".
We are hoping that this is where he needs to be and that he will flourish and be an asset. He has a bad case of homesickness right now...already been away from home since the end of March...and then had settled in at the base he was at...only to move again...such is Military life sometimes!
If you any of you can direct me to some posts about Builders school or post something new for me I would greatly appreciate it. I am praying that in a few months I will be the proud mom of a Fighting Seabee!
Hello ladies my husband will be seabee and his PIR date is 9/30 snd I cant wait to see him. can you ladies tell me what to expect and give some friendly advice? it would be greatly appreciated. what day do they leave from GL to mississippi?
Has anyone had (and I think probably hundreds will answer) but has anyone had a son or daughter go through steps to get married to an out of state fiance. Is it a hard process? Do they just get their marriage license and get married and then put in for on base housing? Does it take long to get things taken care of? He deploys in early next year and they want to get married in Nov before he leaves. I'm happy for them. I love her and she's apart of the family already so just want to try to ease their anxieties about what is the easiest thing for them to do to make this transition less stressful and more happy.
This is for all the strong ladies, who have been through a lot in life! I am strong because I know weakness, I am compassionate because I have experienced suffering, I am still standing because I am a fighter, I am wise because I've been foolish, I can laugh because I have known sadness. I can love because I 've known loss..................PLEASE SWEET JESUS, BLESS MY SONS: MICHAEL DOUGLAS AND THOMAS MANLEY IN GODS PRAYERS AND THANKS, IN JESUS NAME...............AMEN, PLEASE ADD YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER TO THE PRAYER CHAIN,,,,,,,,
hi I hope everyone is doing well. We are doing fine, My seabee was home recently, it was so great to see him. I hadn't seen him since last Nov when he came home for my mom's funeral. Now he is going to a new assignment. So I won't be visiting here very often except to touch base and say hi. I wish everyone a happy life and good wishes for their NAvy person. I will stop in and say hi from time to time.
Hi ladies my name is Vonecia and my husband just finished bootcamp and arrived in mississippi for A school. His parents didnt want to take me to the airport in chicago to give him his goodie bag or his phone. he hasnt had a chance to call yet. Can someone message me the address to his A school if possible because i really want him to have his phone
Vonecia, he should be able to call you from a payphone or something. The address is going to depend on where he is. If he is in Gulfport, there are several buildings he could be in. If he is Meridian, I have no idea what the A school is like up there. Unfortunately, he is really the only one who can provide you with that information. Give him some time and once he is settled I'm sure he will give you a call.
Venocia, My son and I found the easiest way for him to get stuff I sent was for me to send it US mail to the closest post office down there. He would just go there and pick it up rather than find the proper base address and hope it gets to him through that system. Of course, that's dependent upon him being able to have or get a ride and leave base. My son is stationed down there, so it's not an issue for him. Hope that helps.
KTSSONG, I recently married my seabee in California and we did not need a chit. We got married on August 20, it took a week to get the license, filled out all of the paperwork around august 30 and he started getting bah on his september 15th check. I am currently in Louisiana because he is about to be deployed, so I had to mail him my drivers license, birth certificate and social security card, it took him one day to put all of my info into deers and he mailed me a signed paper authorizing me for an spouse ID. I just went to the naval base in New Orleans and got my id with no problems. hope that helps :)
Thanks Denise! He just "heard" that he might get sent home...so we are waiting...just wanted to see if there was a "norm" to go by. LOL "norm"...will stand by for info!
Yeah as much as he would love to see us...he doesn't want to spend the money if he doesn't have too (didn't want to hurt our feelings - I COMPLETELY understand though!), plus ugh, can you imagine the airports! What fun is that?
I wish I could go out there. He has been gone since the end of March. It was more than time for him to be on his own so I haven't been "missing" him (you know what I mean? don't take it the wrong way ladies!) but now that we are heading iinto holiday time (and I am soooooooo friggin' hormonal - yay!) I hate the thought of him having Thanksgiving alone...or maybe it's more us without him. Quite a few years ago my husband got tired of me slaving away in the kitchen all day and being tired for dinner...so we started a tradition of going to our favorite Korean BBQ and then just hangin out together. Won't be the same.
Dang, I'm getting all goofy...that's just life, right!?
Hi everyone.. just stopped in to say hi and to tell you that soon my seabee will be using his "electrifying " personality to bring in new recruits. He may be into recruiting now, but he will always be a seabee... Other than that I am happy to have him on my side of the Mississippi.. I am in New York
Hello Ladies...I am a new seabee mom my son's PIR was 10/7 what a wonderful day. Now he is in Port Hueneme. After hisfirst day he said he thinks the last 8 weeks were his vacation. The work is about to begin. I am glad to find your group and happy to have other seabee moms to talk to . thanks
LisaAnn: Welcome to the club. My son is the company commander there until he graduates A school on Nov. 4th. Devin said that they have gradually gotten more and more strict since he started there on July 23rd. He will get use to it...they have PT Monday, Wednesday and a heavy early morning PT on Friday where they get up at 3am. The first couple weeks he will be adjusting to the base and doing duty but he'll get use to it. Tell him to try to Phase up as soon as he can...with each phase they get more priviledges. The thing they are really getting more strict about is room inspections....has to be perfect! We live 55 miles from base so Devin has gotten to come home most weekends for those that can't do that they do seem to have some nice MWR trips and activities for the guys/girls. You will find that communication will be much better now that he is out of BC. They are allowed cell phones, ipods and computers, more free time but they do have to learn the rules and go to class and study. Sometimes a bit stressful but they all seem to be doing well! I don't get to drive all over the base but what I have seen is really nice. Movie theatre, bowling alley, cnet, hugh Nex, gas station, Commissary, some fast food places inside the NEX (soon adding a Subway) and Gas Station. A new Seabees museum. Navy Lodge on base. I hope that helps ease your mind if you have any questions please feel free to message me. I hope your son will enjoy his time in California. I am amazed that some of the guys are complaining about it being cold. They are right on the ocean and it is a damp cold they get. But guys from WI, PA, CO are complaining? At least they won't have snow. LOL
Thanks for the welcome,my son is living in a room by himself he said that no one has lived there in a while and had to do a lot of cleaning the walls and such all by himself poor baby:) he said he had and great view of the mountains and that if does get cold at night. We live in SC and we are alittle wimpy when it comes to the cold even though we have lived in the north. I sent his electronics today he should get them by the middle of next week. And subway is his favorite. Thanks for the info I will be in touch.
Lol yes it is cold in port hueneme! I'm from Louisiana and its definately hard to adjust to. There's a wind from the ocean that never for a away and zero humidity. I hate it :(
LOL...San Fernando Valley California....103 today...I want our Fall weather to come. But weather at Port Hueneme is different...damper and cooler, and the ocean breeze does make it feel colder. LisaAnn, I think they are in the middle of clearing one barracks so that it can be remodeled in November, so they are putting the "newbies" in a different barracks. Your son still may get a roomie when the next group comes in. New people come in almost every week.
sjtina - Hi! Yes...well he went in as an IT...failed out of the rating. He tried real hard. He was thankful that he was retained and allowed to choose a new rating. He originally wanted SW when he enlisted...but you know how MEPS goes! Hey, he is in the Seabee community!
He's been there a month now and so far so good. He's been appointed Safety PO. Passing his tests really well, just took the PFA and did better than he did at BC on times and such. He called home tonight and told me he failed it AND the test he had today...the stinker....had a bad day and hearing that started to make it worse! Then he tells me he's fooling around...in the end I laughed so it was a good thing! Praying it continues well for him.

Hello Everyone!

Dumpster watch...too funny!

Hi everyone.. just stopped in to say hi and to tell you that soon my seabee will be using his "electrifying " personality to bring in new recruits. He may be into recruiting now, but he will always be a seabee... Other than that I am happy to have him on my side of the Mississippi.. I am in New York

LOL
