Melissa.....what ship was he on before S5?
  • TxNavyDad

@Aloha... That's awesome!! Our son was legaled the same day as your son.

Our son said he will call Monday night with his flight info, so we are hoping he will be flying home Tuesday as well.

It's a very good sign that our SR's are being processed very quickly (all things considered). I don't believe that legal is closing down on the Dec.19th as we were lead to believe, at least not by the way so many are being processed.

  • TxNavyDad

@Melissa... Oh man.. That's such terrible news! I sure hope your SR is incorrect.

Possibly your SR's CO's exec can step in and sign off on the waiting SR's to finish processing. Usually the exec can follow up in place of the CO. On board, when the CO leaves the ship, the XO (exec) takes over command in the CO's place and the CO's responsibilities and authority.

Lets hope his XO follows thru with this.

Please keep us all updated OK? We will be praying as always..

Hello - my son arrived on 12/5 and we just got our first letter from him saying he'd been assigned to Ship 5.   I'm not sure if he even knows what this means, because his letter was quite upbeat.   The 'Boot Camp Moms' group told me this means  he's being discharged!    I don't understand what is happening.  It is Saturday night now, so I can't even call his recruiter, but I plan to at the first opportunity.   I am worried sick and don't know what to do.

  • glorann1978

@scdel he could have been sent for a variety of reasons. Our son was sent there for admin reasons (paperwork) he has been there almost 2 weeks. He let us know yesterday that he should be home next week. We have been able to periodically communicate thru facebook by sending a private message. You can still write to him while he is on ship 5.

scdel  my sons recruiter was of no help when I called him to find out about my son.  My son had actually left a message on his brothers phone that he was separated so I got on this site and found Ship 5 and called the number to seperations administration listed above and they confirmed my son was there and had him call me back.

Sorry I am not on here much, but I see many are getting their kiddos back and soon too... So happy for you all and on to a new chapter for them. May god and the holidays bring you all much happiness and the new year a new beginning. Lots of love you guys :)
  • sdcel

Thank you to everyone who has responded to my post with kind thoughts and information.  I hope to know more today or tomorrow.   My first concern is for my son, and helping him get through this.   I truly appreciate everyone's help.

My fiancé is being medically discharged from bootcamp with an injured shoulder and depression. He went to legal Friday now what happens?? He usually calls every other day do thy get to call on the weekends?
  • Z's Mom

Just wanted to say Thank you again so much for the support from persons on this site. I was so shell shocked when I got the call my son was being separated a short 15 minutes after I got "the box". My son has been allowed to call almost daily, they have asiisted him with future plans now that this dream has ended. Thank you again so very very much - caring, kind and loving people do exist, and you'll find them here at ship 5.

  • sdcel

Dear Z's Mom - I am glad to hear this, thank you for sharing.  Emotionally, I'm about 2 days behind where you are now, so very glad to hear that things can get better.  Especially glad they are assisting your son with future plans.   I have yet to speak with my son directly (I keep missing his calls), and am waiting for SAO to open this morning so I can call them and try to get some information.   This Ship 5 site is the only place I can find comfort right now.

  • TxNavyDad

sixft... lots of our MEN are on their way homes.. ;D

  • TxNavyDad

sixft... I know, I know... just messin with ya... ;D

  • TxNavyDad

<SIGH> Just got done chatting with my son on FB and he's going to call between 8-9 tonight after chow to give his departure info.

YAAA!!! Our son's gonna be home in a couple days if not one. Hope you all are getting related info such as this.

  • colormecrazy

I hope its tomorrow txnavydad!! My husband just called me saying he will be home Wednesday. So hopefully, I will get the departure call tomorrow night. People who are legalling today will be going home Friday. I'm too excited to have him home. :)

  • Melissa (ship 5 SEP)

Nope TX, talked to mine this morning. Said January 7th. I just don't understand why. Still hope he'd just misinformed about something.
  • TxNavyDad

@Melissa... I sure hope he's wrong. My son seems to very sure he's leaving tomorrow. Matter of fact, his parting words on FB were, I love you too. Call you tonight, see you tomorrow. Nice words to hear. I just hope they are correct. If all goes according to the way others have, he should...

(arms, legs, fingers, eyes and toes crossed) be home this week. Tomorrow preferably.

BUT... as always, I will update tonight after talking with him and getting his departure info. I'll make it REAL easy for y'all... if he's coming home THIS week... I'll start out the post with, YEEEEE HAWWWWW!!!

You know, like I have on others? LOL. Melissa, I really hope your son was misinformed. Seems like there is allot of that going on lately.

    Confusion? Ya buddy....

@colorme... Awesome news fer sher!!! Let us know the details as soon as you get them.!

  • Melissa (ship 5 SEP)

Well TX, I was right all along.  After putting all the information from Ship 5 moms and dads, along with the intervals of phone calls and other stuff that just didn't add up.......  I questioned our SR today during an 'unexpected' phone call  about everything I knew and my suspicions.  "If your lying and plan on surprising us- you will die!!!"  His reply.... "There is no way I'd do that,  Are you crazy.  How could a joke about something like that."   Like I said I was correct.  Had his dad pick him up from airport and 'SURPRISE'.  Might I just say he's just lucky he is still alive at this very moment.  Same ole' kid.  Less hair and ugly glasses.

    Ship 5- Nov 27th

    Legal- Dec 7th

    Home- Dec 17th

  • Melissa (ship 5 SEP)

Bridgett- did you find out why he is coming home?

  • TxNavyDad

    YEEEE HAAAWWWWW!!!

Yup, its official!! Our son is "Leavin' on a jet plane!" "He's comin' home agane..."

Just got off the phone with our son and they are leaving for the airport at 10am tomorrow morning to come home. I told him about what Melissa's son did and he confessed that he had actually thought about doing that! The TURD!!

But, hey, he will be home and that's what counts. He said he will call from the airport before he boards.

@Melissa... Well there lady... some son you have there... I love his covert operations! He's all Navy, thru and thru!! That was an awesome trick to pull. LOL

I'm guessin you have not let go of huggin him yet... Totally understandable.

By the way... did you run out of Kleenex yet?

@Bridgett... Has your fiance been legaled yet? They usually give them a pretty accurate time frame of when they are leaving. How is he doing btw?

  • Erika

My boyfriend called me today saying that he saw legal! He said he should be on a plane on Friday! I'm do lucky that his process went by so fast!!

    Discharged on 11th
    Legal today (17th)
    Home - claimed Friday

My prayers go to everyone that r waiting and hoping to see their sailor for the holidays! Hopefully they step up there game like they did with my SR an get go out of there fast! God bless you all! Congrats @TxNavyDad
  • TxNavyDad

@aloha... Our son called after chow tonight. About 830pm CST (same as Texas). He didn't know his flight info either, except that they were leaving GL at 10am for the airport and he would call me from there. He explained how each department DID NOT communicate with the next. RTC did there job, forwarded the paperwork to legal, then legal to the CO, then the CO to transportation. Not one of the dept's spoke to the next at anytime during the separation and ship out process.

Well hell!!! No wonder things run so smoothly and everyone knows everything...

(Sarcasm? Ya Think?) Geeze. It's a wonder our men and women get home at all.

I guess I should shut up and be thank full our son is coming home. I'm sure, unfortunately, there will be some SR's spending the holidays there and for that my heart goes out to the SR's and their families. We all will keep everyone in prayer until they all get home.

    LEAVE NO SR BEHIND!!

  • TxNavyDad

@Erika... That's awesome news girl!! So glad he made it to legal. That seems to be the hardest and longest wait, to get into legal. It seems that after legal, it's a down hill slide to meet with transportation and finalize the out processing.

We are hoping and praying Erika that your bf is on that plane friday headed back to you!!

  • TxNavyDad

Aloha... I feel your pain. BELIEVE ME... I think everyone here will finally sleep well knowing that our SR is coming home. He and his sister have already been making plans for movie night with snacks and goofing around until all hours...

    AWW HELL YA!!

    "That's the way.. uh-huh uh-huh we like it uh-huh uh-huh..."

  • JeanneT

Texnavydad.......i am so happy for everyones kids being home and coming home. What in the world has happened to mine? I got a crappy depressing letter today and his name tapes he took off his work uniform. Im so friggin sad right now. I cant stop crying.
  • TxNavyDad

Jeanne... I'm so sorry. My son sent one of his home as well. It is kind of a kick in the teeth when you see it. However, he will be coming home soon. As I understand it, they are really trying hard to ship out as many as they can. I also understand that vacations that were initially said to have started Dec.19th, have been canceled due to high numbers of SR's in S5. We will keep you, your son and everyone in prayer as we always have and will continue too.

Remember the storm is the strongest and darkest, just before it's over.

I know it's easy for me to say since my son is coming home tomorrow, but just like you I was there and still am to an extent until my son is home.

We are all still here with and for you.

  • JeanneT

Texnavydad.....thanks so much for that. He said the place is full of crazy people. Too much so to put on paper. He says there are mutinys and people that want to over throw the staff. What the hell? He cant believe most of the people got through MEPS. I want him home. You are so lucky your son is just about there.
  • TxNavyDad

Jeanne... I guess those guys that are going crazy have the attitude of "What are you going to do to me? Throw me out of the Navy?" what they fail to realize is, while they are being separated, until they leave the base, they are still in the Navy and still subject to its rules and regs. If they push it hard enough, they vary easily could end up in the brig with a dishonorable discharge.
So, we will also be praying for peace and understanding for the guys that are acting out, causing allot of trouble. We will also pray for protection around your son.
Your son will be home soon Jeanne and until he is, we are here with you.
  • JeanneT

Texnavydad.....i know. The letter was actually unnerving. Vi am amazed hey would act in such a manner. My son said coming from such rigid military structure to this, ship 5, is just terrible. He said if you ever think boot camp is bad, hang out in ship 5. No comparison. thanks for your kind words as always. I gotta go sleep this one off. Hysterical crying exhausts me.
  • JeanneT

Sorry my spelling stinks......tears makes it so cloudy i cant see the keyboard. Ugh!
  • TxNavyDad

Jeanne... Peace be with you always.
  • JeanneT

Texnavydad......thank you please let us know when your son is back safely in your lives. Hug him for ALL of us. Night.
  • Z's Mom

My son called again today and said they told him Thursday for sure, but he has no travel information yet either. He did say that Aloha's son left - so thats good, right???

  • TxNavyDad

@ the airport waiting 12 more minutes until our sons plane lands!!!
Oh happy day... OH HAPPY DAY!!! Our son will be home... Our son will be home...
(Excesizing to get ready to donthr happy dance) 1-2 1-2 1-2.... (WHEW!!)
  • JeanneT

Wow. ...Im sort of jealous.....not in a bad way though. I just know how you must be feeling. Let us know how it goes Texnavydad.
  • sdcel

    Happy for you all!

  • colormecrazy

Hey yall. I'm super freaking out right now. My husband isn't on the list to come home Wednesday OR Thursday. He said many people went home today that got here after he did. His grandpa has taken a turn for the worst today and we are worried about time. I called the Red Cross and they told me there is nothing they can do. :(

  • Thetwoj

Congratulations to all of you who have returning sons and daughters this week. For those who's loved ones are still there, try to hang in there. Maybe delay your celebration for a few days if you can.

  • TxNavyDad

    Good Morning everyone!!

When we picked him up from the airport last night, he looked so good and was so glad to see us as we were him. We were waiting for him at the exit from the concourse to the main terminal by security.

We saw him coming to the exit and my daughter ran towards him and literally jumped into his arms and the rest is beautiful family history. My wife asked him one question about bootcamp and boy, the stories that followed for almost 3hrs straight were great. We stopped by his grandparents house on the way home from the airport (his grandfather is ex navy from 1950-1954) who had no clue he was home yet. This was a HUGE surprise for them. Anyway, he is still asleep, now at 825am, resting VERY comfortably and will get up when he is good and ready. No revile in this house!!

Buttermilk pancakes, bacon and OJ are on the menu this morning. YUM!

A HUGE Thank You to everyone for your prayers, words of wisdom and just being a true family. You guys are the best!

Happy Holidays to all from Texas.

We are keeping everyone in our prayers as always and hope everyone will make it home for Christmas and if not by then, at least before New Years.

  • colormecrazy

All I want is for him to be home for Christmas! And I know he is wanting to spend the holidays with his grandpa. I'm so nervous but am not getting my hopes up for Friday. :/ Is there a way where I can call and give him updates about his grandfather?

  • colormecrazy

Well his mother told him about it yesterday, and it made him have a break down.  A petty officer let him call 11 pm last night and he told me about it. I found out some more info and wanted to update him, knowing he's probably worried sick right now. Trust me, I haven't even told him our cat ran away even though he hates that thing haha. And I will purchase a plane ticket right away if that is the case!! Do you know who I can contact to ask about that?

  • momof3

    Hello All-
When will recruit be notified if there name Is on list to leave? ( how many days in advance) should he have to follow up daily ..?
  • cpursley

My son got to call me late the night before he was leaving. It had been great having him home these past few days. He seems back to normal. Every now and then he gets real quiet and doesn't talk about the future much. I'm giving him time and space about it. After all he was a day away from graduating before he had his dreams taken away from him.
  • momof3

I'm so sorry to hear . It's a tough on them. I can't wait to see and talk with my son about his experience. Don't have a clear picture to why he was discharged all I know it's " medical ". Sigh ...
  • colormecrazy

Does anyone know if I could call travel and ask if my husband is scheduled to come home Friday? Would they have that information?

  • colormecrazy

sixft- Thanks for the advice! I did! They said they were closed (3:30 pm CST?) but the nice man helped me out as much as he could. My husband didn't sign a waiver because I read somewhere any extra paperwork to be processed may make the whole thing longer. But I answered a few questions about him correctly and he was able to talk to me a little bit about his case.

I VERY politely explained the situation and the fact that the red cross couldn't help me and my only other option was to speak with my congressman for help, and he told me that he would relay the message and see what they could do for me. He was very nice and understanding, I was surprised. So we will see I suppose.

Sorry. This whole thing is kinda making me lose my marbles. LOL

  • TxNavyDad

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. We are very blessed and fortunate to have our SR home now as most of you know.

For those of you who do not have your SR's home, we are most definitely keeping ALL the SR's and their families in prayer for peace, understanding and most of all our God's blessings. May this holiday season not be one of emptiness and sorrow, but of thanksgiving and praise. Our SR's were where they want to be. Being excellent representatives and protectors of our great nation. But, things happened and sometimes, when one door is closed, another is opened.

One thing to keep in mind is this, even though our SR's didn't make it all the way thru, they are still considered Navy veterans. My son informed me of this FACT. Whether it was 29 days or 29 years, they are still Navy veterans...

(provided they received an honorable discharge and I don't see why any did not)

Our nation has the strongest military in the world.

    A force of VOLUNTEER DEFENDERS!!!

We have mighty warrior man and women that stand firm and say...

"Sleep well. No harm will befall you on MY watch!"

You just don't get any stronger than that.

Thank you to all our past, present and future defenders for protecting us all.

God Bless you all!! GO U.S. NAVY!! GO U.S. ARMED FORCES!!

  • JeanneT

Angie...you come across as a very rude person. Every person on this site has the best intentions and willingness to talk and walk one another through a most difficult heartbreaking time. In the future, having pertinent information for any of us, please don't be so damn snotty in sharing.
  • TxNavyDad

    @Angie

I guess legal doesn't know what they are talking about then. Maybe you should give them a call and straighten them out.

BTW.. I never said they were eligible for all the things you posted as FACT.

    Merry Christmas!
