NMCB 40 in Port Hueneme, CA

Family & friends of those serving in Seabee battalion NMCB 40 in Port Hueneme, CA.

  • betsyd

Does anyone have someone currently in this battalion?
  • thursdayschild

Hi mindy. There doesn't seem to be much actvitiy here but welcome.
  • MomSBA

My son, Adam, is coming to Port Hueneme!! He will be stationed with NMCB 40!!
I hope they are good to him, he is a real, good guy. Right now he is being held a few extra days in Pensacola because of dental delay and might miss the 4th of July with his whole family in one place at one time. He will be going to Afghanistan with a group in August... God Speed to all the troops!! xo
  • MomSBA

Thank You so much, Hope! Glad to hear people are great.
My son Adam will be in with IT. He is coming from 2 + years on the
Abraham Lincoln, aircraft carrier. He is from Huntington Beach so he will
be close to home base! Of coarse I hope everyone stays safe in deployment!
  • MomSBA

My son left today to go to NMCB 40 at Port Hueneme. I've already talked to his senior officer and his wife who is the FRG VP. Any questions email her at
nmcb40frgvicepresident@gmail.com. I think it stands for Family Resource Group?
Her name is Stephanie. She has been with her husband in the Navy for a long time and has a lot of information. Best to all... Julie
  • DebBee40

Talked to my son this morning. All are doing well and things are going as planned. Know what you mean about staying by the computer too much.
  • MomSBA

My son is IT on base working nights, 12 hours difference so I get to FBook with him a lot during the day. He sounds real good. Says it's too hot to sleep after noon... Plus he has no blanket or sheet or pillow. So a sleeping bag and pillow are on there way. He said they have lots of TP, haha. Hopefully that isn't true for the guys on base anyway... I am sending some PT shorts he asked for. It's been a week and he hasn't gotten 1 box yet. Blessings, Julie
  • DebBee40

I sent a package and it took about 2 weeks to get there. Individual drink mix packs are good to send. They have plenty of water but it helps to add a little flavor to it. Baby wipes are another good thing to send as well as some sunscreen.
  • MomSBA

My son asked for the Koolaid mixes. He doesn't like the sweetners... beef jerky. Yeah, the air freshner sounds good! Maybe Sea Breeze or Mountain Fresh, lol. Sounds good. Got the USPS boxes, sending one a week. He said he showers everyday so he doesn't need wipes but I bet the guys out all day do. Love this site, Thanks. Julie
  • DebBee40

Talked with John this morning. Charlie Co. is doing well!
  • DebBee40

When sending goodies--send in tins or plastic containers. I have been informed they have mice!
  • seabeeMom

My son Dustin is in B. Co in the sand box at the moment. Just spent his 21st Birthday there.
  • seabeeMom

I am sending out a bunch of Christmas Stuff for the guys in Bravo Co. If anyone knows of someone in that Company that needs something, let me know by 30 NOV and i can include it.
  • Tobianne

Hi all my daughter just got her orders and will also be with NMCB 40. She will not get there until March as she still has to finish A-school and Combat Training.
  • Tobianne

How long have they been out on deployment and thank you.

Her best friend is going to be there also, she will get there about a week or so before her.
  • SeaBeeMomma((April))

Hi Tobianne! I am so excited to find out that Kayla and Brittni are in the same batallion. They only knew each other for 24 hrs at A school. Britt's loving Cali so far. We have family there so it's a bonus for me that she's there. I am bracing myself for her first sand box deployment which is SOON. I think NMCB40 started getting deployed around August and will be coming home in Spring 2011.
  • Tobianne

Awesome, I will have to ask her about your kiddo, PM me the last name as you know no one knows any ones first names!! lol. I am happy she is loving this. I know Kayla can not wait.
  • sash510

Ok so I have been trying to find the number to the Liaison...I was wondering if anyone has heard when the guys will be back in Cali. I live in Illinois and my son would like for us to meet him when he returns but hasn't heard of any set return date. Thank you in advance for any help.
  • sash510

Thank you Hope...and BeeMom1 where did you get your Blue Star Flag...I would like very much to find one to support my son...Thank you. Eva
  • sash510

Thank You Bee for the information on the blue flag.

  • sash510

Any further information about the return of the main body of NMCB40...I have been checking on the hotline but so far no change in the posting...Thank You.

  • sash510

I was asking because I knew that the advance party was back but was still waiting to hear about the rest of the battalion...as that was the group my son was with...however, I got word from him today that he is in the states...I figured he was close as the time differences were changing when he would call but wasn't sure of exactly when he would be state side again...Thank you for the response to my last statement.

  • sash510

I wish b ut my son probably won't be able to come back before maybe August at the earliest...but more than likely November.

  • sash510

    sorry to hear that

  • julieb

How great to find you guys!!!! My daughter is new to nmcb40. She just got to Port Hueneme when they all got back from deployment. At first she absolutly loved it. Now she is down in the dumps. I know she can't be the only one? Any advice for me and for her. It is so hard to hear the sadness and depression every day!
  • Tobianne

julieb, I sent you a message. I hope this look up for her soon. Thery do all go thru the downs. My kiddo is not "fond" of CA either. She loves Gulf Port and wants to go back there so badly. It is like home she feels, hot and humid and of course that she is just comfortable in the area makes it that way.
  • seabeewifey

i'm a new NMCB40 spouse, trying to meet other NMCB40 spouses to hang out with.
  • Tobianne

Kym, my daughter is leaving hers in the "rot lot".

I have been told as long as they have full coverage and a good and propery fitted car cover, they do fine in the lot.

Where is your son going? My kiddo lves the first week of Nov.

  • Tobianne

    Timon? Or something like that....lol

Mine is Guam, she is Air Det. She has many friends going where your son is going, heck they most likely know eachother.

She is still making payments on hers as well. She just wants to know she has a car when she gets back. Sad though with them not knowing....back to where actually!!! For the decommisioning things will be fine, the other is just a gamble at this point.

Main body goes elsewhere and then from that point I get confussed, she was bravo comp. now as I said she is Air Det. I am thinking your son must be Main Body?

  • Tobianne

My daughter is going there, I was "told" it is not nearly as much as what we think.

We have verizon and just need to add global to our plan.

This is good, however your son will need a global phone. He most likely knows if his is or not.

Skype is a good way to communicate also.

When does he lve? Mine is the first group to go. She is part of Air Det.

I was just in PH and heard the 40 saying they were going to be pretty busy. Many projects to do. In a way that is good, they will have a hard time being bored. This is also bad as they will get upset if they work non-stop.

My daughter would prefer to work and do what needs done as oppose to sit around, (in her defense, she also likes to skate of early in the day if it is possible) cuts the boredom.

  • Tobianne

Kris- my understanding is somewhere between July though Sept.

My daughter is a CE (Electrician).

She has been in almost a year and half now. Just at PH for about 6-7 mos.

  • Tobianne

Great, she most likely knows your son then.

It is so hard to be pulled in many directions. I thankfully have both parents and inlaws here in Ohio with us. However this does not change where i want to be, or where i would like for my kiddo to be... lol

  • Tobianne

My understanding is it does not.

My kiddo will join the 3 when they return. She said they will (the 40) all be in the Seabee Musium. Kind of neat.

Mine is off to Pendleton for the day, she has to get a release from Dental to leave. She said she is going no matter what.

  • Tobianne

Amen to that, Kayla and I are so very close. This is gonna cause me to go gray.

Then we find her cell is not "global" so she has to pay .69 every minute and .50 a text, .05 to receive. Not a good weekend. We will all get through this, it is just gonna be a few long months of complete suck. lol

  • Tobianne

Stuck In Hawaii.... could be worse for them.
  • SamanthaRae

The last I heard from my husband is they were in Alaska, and that was about 13 hours ago. Still waiting to hear from him.
  • thursdayschild

Ladies, can we be more careful about posting too much information online? It's making other members uncomfortable since our loved ones are part of nmcb 40 as well and you're putting everyone at risk. Thanks for your understanding.
  • julieb

Anyone think we need to start a Timor group? I'm not on here often but thought it would narrow it down since there are so few of them.  ot we can just chat on here. Hope everyone is doing good with our seabees overseas.

  • julieb

There is already  a main Guam N4M group but you could do a 40 guam group? there is not a group started for Timor. there are only 25 of them. I just caught the end of the Wallet saga. I'm so glad it is working out. The time change is crazy! I really would take a phone call at any time but I cant go back to sleep after i talk at 2am. My brain gets going and it wont turn off. It's worth it though! Should we start a Timor group or will we be the only ones on it? might be silly or could be good if we need to discuss things that pertain just to our small group?

  • Devon

Hello, I am new here. My husband is joining this unit, arrives (and deploys!) next week. He just grad from C school on Friday. I am soooo new to everything. He has only joined the navy in march so this will be his first duty station and first deployment. We are currently on the east coast. We have 3 small children and I am trying to learn more about the navy, about Cali, about deployment and about port H along w this unit. (tho we just heard it will decommission after this deployment??? Not really sure what that means? Will he than be stationed elsewhere? I am trying to decide if it make sense to move to Cali if he is just going to be gone and then reassigned--we are thinking it might be better to stay put until we know where he is going after this.) would someone please talk w me about all of this?---and put things in very easy to understand terms as I don't have the navy lingo down at all yet! Thanks
  • Tobianne

Devon-welcome, and yes you heard right. Not sure where your husband will go, my daughter is joining the 3. She is also on deployment, not all of the 40 are in the same place. He should know shortly after he leaves (maybe before) where he will be going. Mine is staying in Port Hueneme. Where on the East Coast are you? I am in Ohio. My daughter is 19 and she is a CE.

Did you mean he funished A-school? Some do C-school, but most go from A-school to ECS and then to duty station.

  • Tobianne

Kym- how is your Seabee doing? mine went snorkeling this past weekend, said she is burned pretty good. She is so fair anyway, of course she did not wear any sunblock (I am sure)!!!

  • SamanthaRae

Welcome Devon! My husband is in 40 and was deployed on the 7th and is stationed in Port Hueneme right now. I am here as well. I love it here. Yes, the battalion is getting decommissioned after this deployment but he should already know where he is going to be stationed. If he doesn't know what battalion he is going to I would say stay put until he figures out exactly where he is going to be stationed. I found out right before my husband left that he is staying here in Hueneme. But I'd say see if he knows where he is going before deciding to move.

  • julieb

Kym, let me know if you get an APO address for Timor. I sent a Fed Ex package and it was very very expensive so hopefully we can get that address. I know there is a post office in Dili. I know they don't have access to that so I guess we just wait!

  • Tobianne

Julieb- How is "L"?  Kay said she misses her. I did meet her when I was there. Actually met her the night she had the car trouble, she is a very pretty young lady. It was funny, Kay said many would confuse her and "L", now I kind of see why.

Hope that is wonderful news, makes me proud to know our Seabee's are moving and they light is there.

Kay will take her test while on deployment, Hoping I get that wonderful news also.

My 12 year old is going to Early College Middle School (ECA), She is doing great and just said she is interested in the Naval Academy. Ladies, I am so proud she wants to follow her sister to the Navy, but unsure I can do this all over again with another daughter. lol

Well, I am off to get started for dinner tomorrow.

Have a wonderful Thanks Giving and I hope everyone gets calls, or texts.

  • SamanthaRae

    Kym,

I say go to the post office, they are much cheaper than Fedex, since they have APO/FPO flat rate boxes. I sent my husband stuff already and it was like $15 for the one box, no matter what the weight it is.Just to save everyone some money.

  • julieb

Kym, yes i got the address as well. Thank goodness! Tobianne, how in the heck are you? L is doing great. Much to tell but not on here. Thank you so very much for picking L up when her car broke down. I know K and L are good friends. I would of loved to see them hang out more. I just love  K! L will be going to 5 and K to 3? I'm sure they will keep in touch with facebook. In some ways I feel like this deployment will go by fast. Enjoy your thanksgiving and we will catch up later.
