Hi all, sorry I didn't post but I have not been on much. Too busy in the summer with work and the garden. Daughter has been assigned to the Kearsarge since May 2008 and is a CTR. She and her husband live in Hampton, VA. Her husband is in the Air Force.
  • Pat

Hi all! I talked to my daughter today and she also said that they may go but it is not 100%. The USS Baataan was sent and is there now but that ship is due into the yards at some point and may have to return before they complete the assignment. Kim also was on the humanitarian mission in 2008 when they went to provide aid.

I'm just really frustrated with this whole Haiti thing being so up in the air and so many rumors going around.... >_/body>
  • decorusXdea

I know. Mike was in Japan for 2 years and was denied leave every time he requested it. He'll be in for 5 years this year. It's just his first time on Sea Duty, so it's something to adjust to.
  • LHD3Momma

Tried to phone my son this morning to see if they were shipping out today. No answer, so not sure if they are underway or not.
  • dma57

I am new to this forum but not new to the Navy. I have a daughter whose been onboard the Kearsarge for a couple of years. I talked to her last night and she said they had to report for duty at 10pm and were to ship out this morning. I haven't heard from her since then.
  • dma57

Thanks for the welcome! It is nice to find a group where we are all sharing in the same thing. I hope that many will find the support we all need here! Thank you!!

I was a navy wife (30+ years ago) and now a navy mom (my daughter, Amanda). I remember how hard it was being a newly married and having my husband leave on deployment. I have to say, it is equally hard to have my daughter away! We live out of state so I haven't seen her since October when she was home for her sister's wedding. I really miss her!

Just talked to my daughter. They're back in Norfolk where she says they have 8 inches of snow and it's still coming down -they're saying as much as 15 inches before it's done.

She said another ship took the place of the one they were to relieve but they are still on standby.
  • DCT MOM

Dustin is back they flew in this afternoon He called me about 4.30 our time. It was really good to hear is voice. He was really glad to be back, but he was really excited He said he got to learn some new jobs. Congrats to Kasie. Dustin and Krystal had a date set for the 25th of Sept. But that has been put off till he gets back. Hope everyone has a great week-end
    Hugs Tammy
  • DCT MOM

Yeah the guy was a friend of my husband's. He was just out for a night with the guys and over leaned and the bike wobbled and he tried to correct it and hit gravel =[ it was a bad week for everyone in my husband's department. The family cruise day is next month =D
  • DCT MOM

sorry to hear about your husbands friend. Dustin bought a car after he got out their. Before he left he said he would be home sometime in August and now him and Krystal are talking about getting married while he is home. i was hoping they were going to waite till after deployment. i did find out is squidron is the HSN 22. This navy slang iam never going to get used to it.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day
    Tammy
  • decorusXdea

There was a fire on board the other day, so know most of the ship keeps losing power and the internet is all sorts of screwed up, so the ship might be back earlier than planned
  • decorusXdea

From what I've heard it was rather serious, no one was hurt, but I think, not sure, but there's something going on with a freezer and chemicals, like I said I'm not sure...
  • decorusXdea

Definitely will. We should all from our sailors soon!
  • DCT MOM

Thank godness no one was hurt. Hope we hear something from them soon.
  • DCT MOM

i was wrong on the letters of Dustins squad. it is HSC not HSN someday i will get the lang down
  • DCT MOM

I got a call from Dustin this afternoon and he didnt know anything about the fire until they got back. All he knew was that half the ship had now power. Iam just glad that no one was hurt. He wasnt sure about them going out again the 4th.
  • decorusXdea

The family cruise is June 26th. It's all hands on deck (if your family isn't going you still have to go) and they leave really early in the morning and won't be back til 8 or 9 at night. Children allowed 8 years or older so I won't be able to go. But enjoy it if you are able to go ^_^
  • decorusXdea

I have no idea... my husband said it's June 26th, even though I cannot go, he has to go. I'd talk to your sailors about it.
  • decorusXdea

last name up to 7 letters I think
  • decorusXdea

They will be getting leave periods before the deployment just like Christmas. There's a first half and a second half.
  • decorusXdea

I won't be able to attend. There's an age restriction and our son definitely doesn't meet it. Everybody have fun though!
  • decorusXdea

You'll be fine Sissi, the age limit is 8 years old. My son is 5 months old LOL
  • decorusXdea

    Yes they already left.
  • Sam-Mommy and Wife

Thank you I figured I would join because I don't know anyone except for people on my husbands ship yes it's great but I would like to know other people that I could talk to most of the time not just when they're in port.
  • decorusXdea

I got a group up for the spouses on FB cause the only people I used to know here was the people on the ship
  • Pat

My husband and I will be going on the family cruise. We too get in Friday afternoon. We are looking forward to visiting our daughter for a couple days afterwards. She just made first class so a little celebration is in order I think.
  • Pat

Thanks. I was reading on the website for advancement that it was looking pretty tight for advancement. I know for 2nd class they said that it is the tightest it has been since 1997 and the percentage that were advanced was only like 10%. Kim passed the test for 1st class when she took it the first time but not high enough so there weren't enough billets for her to advance. Keep encouraging Josh. Sorry that the Kearsarge is losing him. Bet it is sad going out knowing it is going to be the last time with those shipmates.
  • DCT MOM

Congrats to your daughter Pat!! you must be so proud, but then we are all proud of out sailors.
Hope everyone enjoys the family cruise. it is just to far of a drive for us to go to both. But we will be there when they come back from deployment. It is a 13 hr. drive for us. Where do you live Sindy?
  • decorusXdea

He is such a doll Sam<3 I miss Kenny being that tiny!
  • DCT MOM

we live in Missouri just south of St. Louis. Dustin will be driving home on his leave so i will find out just how long it takes. But he informed me last night that he will not be on the ship when it gets back he has to fly out on his plane. So i will waite and see what happens.
  • Sam-Mommy and Wife

Thanks for all the compliments on Lucas girls really appreciate it, And Kenny is so cute Nancy when the boys get older they can play together.
  • Pat

Thanks all for the congrats on Kims promotion. I will pass them along to her. I guess that I am lucky I have a daughter who passes along information that she is allowed to give. She had told us about the family cruise right away and is so excited that we are able to come. Especially since her husband is going to be gone that week and she would not have anyone there otherwise. It sounds like they have a lot of activites and demonstrations planed. We had to provide two emergency contacts and any medication that we were on. I know Kim was worried because you can't have had a heart attack within the prior six months and her dad had one the beginning of December so he is just past that mark. Nothing serious, more just a mild wake up for him.
  • decorusXdea

Sam, oh yes! Kenny can teach Lucas how to get up and start moving, he's just got to figure out how to get his arms to move with his legs and he's all good! Right now he's just putting his legs down and pushing off with his legs!
  • decorusXdea

if you email the Obudsmen they will email you the official forms =D kearsargeombudsman@gmail.com
  • decorusXdea

I know of a lot of wives and sailors themself that are upset over it, so they are trying to talk to everyone they can to show that they want it rescheduled and the sailors I talked to said if the CO sees how many people really wanted this they might reschedule it.
  • DCT MOM

Pat and Elizabeth hope you enjoyed your week-end
