@NicoleH10 yes, that's what I mean by pact program. My husband is a PACT Airman. I'm really thankful to God for this website, I've learned SO much! I have now found myself giving OTHERS info and tips I've learned. Feels so good to be able to do that.

Wow xoxo_mariana you are super lucky girl! I wish my husband could push through....maybe he will I do not know yet :)) wishful thinking ***^_^*** My husband just arrived at RTC and he called me from the airport...so good to hear from him. He seems super stoked. My husband just knows he is going to Pensecola, Fl for A school. He is an AV so we are not sure if they are going to pick AE or AT for him yet. Then he is off to C school and we do not know where that is....so but yeah it's all good. I am so excited for you though! You must be super happy!

Nichole - I took a little stroller and they had me stow it anyway. I was able to take it to the hall, but then had to carry her to our seats, I had to leave the stroller off to the side behind a curtain thing. It makes sense because the seating is not very spacious. It is bleacher style and the rows of bleachers are close together, so having a stroller up there is not practical. Depending on which division your husband is in, you may only have to carry her a little ways or all the way to the end of the hall. But you won't have to carry her from the car, so that's good. You can get your stroller after the ceremony and use it when you go have lunch with your sailor at the NEX.
Also, those with recruits in bootcamp might benefit from some forums here on NavyForMoms.com geared towards the bootcamp experience. If you search for groups called "PIR (DATE)" where the date is the graduation date, you will be able to connect with lots of people who also have a recruit in bootcamp graduating that day. I met so many great people and when we went to PIR had people to talk to. Also, you hear about letters and phone calls and news that maybe your recruit hasn't told you yet. Super, SUPER helpful.

Does anyone know about how long it takes to get through the gate for PIR if you have a car ?

Just planning ahead -- When do recruits find out what airport they are flying out of for A school? My boyfriend flew to O'hare to get to boot camp last Tuesday. Just wanted to make sure that when his family and I receive his form letter we can book a flight from the same airport.

Would I have to become a resident in California to pursue my graduate's degree?
Even though I read according to the Higher education opportunity act of 2008 as military spouse attending any public college or university I am entitled to the same cost offered to residents.
I don't want to lose my residency in Fl because this is our home, where I plan on living and raising my children. Our family is down here, especially my husband wanting to be closer to his elderly parents.
Also if I am technically not a resident as a non resident military personnel if my plates and tags can be used from Fl so can my DL?
I checked the CA.gov/ CA highway patrol that stated for non resident military personnel a Driver's license from their state of domicile was valid. I just want to get feedback from other wives in the area, are you still driving with your home state's DL?

Dina - I kept my IL license and tags while we were in CA. You can keep them, you do not have to become a resident of CA. Make sure your car insurance provider knows your address (where the vehicle will be driven) though. If you buy a car in CA, you can fill out a form and they waive the registration fees. You can register it in CA for free then when you get to your home state, register it there (at the normal cost, most likely) and your car will be tagged from your home state. We were considering buying a vehicle while we were there. Here is a link that might give you some info:
MSRRA
Also, some tax info Tax Topic
And some DMV info CA DMV - if you look at the first section, second bullet, #2, it states "...are permitted to operate a vehicle in this state with valid license plates from either ...The vehicle registration and license plates are issued to the military person or spouse of the military person. " (emphasis mine).
I know nothing about the college tuition, other than my husband told me I could finish my degree there at resident rates.
I hope that helps!!

Dina - BTW - FL residency is very beneficial for military personnel, tax-wise. It's wise to keep that residency. CA taxes military income for legal residents.

Diana, you don't have to become a resident. When you register for school you just have to provide a copy of your husbands orders and that alone automatically makes you a resident so you will not have to pay out of state tuition. :) im going through this right now :)

Well I guess I'll share my disappointment. My hubby is supposed to be home Wednesday at 10 PM but now he won't be. I held off for so long to not get excited, it just feels like a punch in the gut. :(

I'm so sorry Dina0106 that your husband isn't coming home on Wed. that would be so terrible. I haven't dealt with this whole having NO control thing yet. I'm truly sorry :-( Was he supposed to be coming home from finishing his trainning or from a deployment? Why has ge been delayed? Sorry...

Thanks ohwhere, but mostly he has no plane tickets. Which means he is on hold until he gets them which sucks because I did everything today. I guess I'll get over it, no other option really.

im sorry girl :/ that would be so hard. I remember feeling upset when liberty was suppose to be called and they held that off , I couldn't imagine not seeing him for so long then that happening :/ I hope the get his tickets soon. or even just a set date. the navy has been changing dates on us since my husband joined so ive become accustom to not listening to them but its really hard when you just want to know whats going on. I told my husband I wish the navy would tell the spouses at home what was going on, that I didn't care if he knew what was going on as long as I knew :P that way I could better prepare myself for what is to come. it doesn't help with all these budget cuts either.

Hopefully time flies!

Thanks andrea! I think the hardest part is the waiting as much trying to find some understanding within myself to not begin to resent my husband in some way for all of this.

How things USUALLY work for the married Nukes:
He'll fly out on the weekend of boot graduation to SC. He'll have briefings all week, and on Wednesday is usually when the housing brief is (used to be and still is as far as I know). At this point, the married guys have the ability to sign a lease for a house. They really push for you to live on base for at least A school. I have heard that they'll approve packets for married guys to live off base during A school, but it does seem rare. Housing is pretty spacious there. Anyways. If you choose to move yourselves, he can fly home (usually by the end of that week) and will have several days to come get you/family and help bring you and stuff back. If you choose to have the Navy move you, he will set that up and you all can meet him in SC. But nothing is done until he gets to Goose Creek.
Like I said the timeline is a usual kind of thing. Things change, but the process is pretty quick. If you're planning on moving yourselves you may wnat to start packing now so you're not overly stressed later.
If you have any questions, please let me know. :)

Well actually submariners in SECF also get their families to move with them since their schooling is so long, I am up in Groton with my sailor for A school, just goes to show you gotta try to have your sailor get the right information that corresponds for him because everyone will go through different things.

My husband is ATF/IT and they already said he would get to move us out...so the nukes are not the only ones that get to move their families.

Okay, well my husband in SECF got ten days of leave that doesnt count against him to get me, house hunt, and get settled in too. IF we need to be more clear, SECF gets to move up family and GO GET family. Thanks for the correction.

I have a question, so since I won't know what airport my boyfriend leaves from on Saturday after PIR until probably that week. I was thinking if I should just book a flight on Sunday instead to leave. But my question is can I still go to the airport with him on Saturday to hang out with him, or do I need a ticket? Or can I just get a pass or something?

@lovemysailor Thank you! I was worried I couldn't book my return flight home until I found out what airport he was at and then I'd get stranded or it would be super expensive if I waited last minute!

Maresa - Hope for it, but don't count on it. Here's my little story - We moved home last month b/c hubby was being deployed and we wanted to be close to family. Hubby took his leave and then flew out of O'Hare back to San Diego. His ticket was through American Airlines and we went to the desk to request a pass for me to join him while he waited for boarding. The lady wanted to see both of our IDs and the woman specifically asked if he was my husband and compared the names on the IDs. I do not know the details of their policies, but I thought it worth mentioning, then if they have a policy about "family" or "married" only, it won't be out of left field for you. Maybe someone else here knows more about it. I also do not know which airline they are likely to fly out of, we just booked American because it was the cheapest flight for the time/day we needed.
If you get a pass, be prepared to go through security, the whole take-your-shoes-off-liquids-in-a-little-baggie thing. I had lotion in my purse, but luckily I also carry baby wipes in a ziploc bag in my purse (I have a toddler, always need them!), so I took out the wipes and put the lotion in. Your best bet, take as little as possible.
Best of luck, I hope your trip to PIR is everything you want it to be!! And then some.

But it is a lie none-the-less. And you and your sailor CAN get in trouble if it is found out that you lied and it will be pretty obvious if you start holding hands among other things in front of everyone. Honestly just bring your ID tell them why your there and get a pass. It's really easy.

Just so others don't think I'm trying to/or going to lie and so the discussion can end. I'm calling both USO's today to check out information. If I can't get in, then I can't. Didn't want to cause any kind of trouble on here, was just inquiring information.
