    Ladies,

I'm so sorry I've been absent for so long.  It's been a little more difficult transitioning from constant life on the road to becoming a resident in apartment life again!!!!  I may have lived in a much smaller domicile of a 40ft fifth wheel trailer but everything was either built in or had a place to go.  I actually feel that my trailer had much more storage space than my apartment has.  And of course our "basement" of the trailer had lots of stacking bins in there so everything had a place and was out of sight.  Now I have all these bins filled with "stuff" and no place to hide them!!!!! We recently got all the extra stuff we had in storage for the past 6 years and moved that in.  Now what do I do with all this?!?!?!  And I'm still sleeping on the floor because this virus has created such a backlog of furniture that we still haven't had delivery of our bed we ordered the beginning of July.  They are now saying September 23rd!!!!! Anyways - we keep plugging along!!

I'm so glad to see several new Moms on here and even more happy to see all the support you are getting from our Moms. Just know that you are not alone, there is always a place for you to come to share with others!! I don't think I would have made it through some really difficult times without the support of other Moms on this website so I am honored to have a place for Moms who have daughters going off to serve our country!!!

    For Shoosh and VillageMum,

Remember to always be your daughter’s safe haven.  They may have moments when they need to call or write and tell you all about the problems they are facing whether in boot camp, A school, or their duty station.  Know that they need someone to vent to and maybe get advice, but in the end, they will figure it out on their own, and they will be stronger for it.  Keep encouraging them and give them confidence.  Then when they are done you go and cry and punch pillows, and come here to vent to us!!!!!! Sometimes we hang on to their problems far longer than they do!!!  But it's because we are  loving Moms and that's what Moms do!!!!

    VillageMum,

What will your daughter be doing after bootcamp??

    Shoosh,

OS will always be a rating close to my heart.  100 years ago when I served I was able to have On The Job training to become an OS and was the second woman to be rated OS.  Uniform shops didn't even have the rating badge for a woman's uniform at the time and I had to hand embroider my own!!!!

    Rebecca 1957,

I also have twin daughters and both have served.  One was enlisted right out of high school and the other went to college first and then became an officer.  She is still active, her twin did her time and got out to go to college using her GI Bill.

    LadyBluefire,

I did not know you had so many kids serving!!!  I thought having 3 was hard!!  I do find I hear from my girls much more than I hear from my boys!!!  I think that's just the nature of daughters vs sons!!!!

  • Anna

Wow, can't believe my post was so long I had to break it up in two!!!  That's what I get for being absent for so long!!!  Sorry for the book!!!

    Momof3,

This virus is making life much more challenging for our sailors.  My daughter has not been able to leave Florida since late February. It has really messed up her job because she would travel quite a bit teaching Aviation Safety to squadrons around the world.  She wanted to vacation to Oklahoma back in May, where she was stationed last and has very close friends (and her sister) still there, but it was denied.  She is hoping that by Christmas she will be allowed to travel then. Keeping fingers crossed. And I hope you get to see your girl again soon!!!!

    Oleander,

Those goodbys are still difficult no matter how long they have been in!!! Can you tell me again what kind of training she will be having in Florida???  It would be so cool if she got to meet with my Jennifer.

    JayDee,

Thank you so much for all your support to our new Moms.  You and Oleander always step up to cover for me and I want both of you to know how much I appreciate you!!!!

    That's all for now Ladies . . . .

  • JayDee659

My daughters wedding turned out perfect!  Hurricane Laura remnants passed by 11 am and we had blue skies, white puffy clouds and lower temps for the wedding.  This picture includes my Nuke and her Nuke husband.

  • Anna

    Oleander,

What wonderful news for Q!!!  You can just never prepare for what Momma Navy will throw at you!!!  Jenn has spent weeks, months with hardly anything to do since all their classes were put on hold.  Then just recently the command decided to do all their classes remotely.  So students can now report to P'cola, spend the first 2 weeks in quarantine but starting their lessons by DVD's.  Then they spend the rest of the time doing remote training.  So Jenn and her crew are busy trying to put all their lessons on disc and such, plus she is helping out the other Aviation School teach a class she took years ago as a student and now has to learn to teach it!!! Plus keep up with her regular work and this new assignment.  She is feeling stretched thin right now!!!!

    JayDee,

I love this picture of your girls and their spouses!!!!  The sky looks gorgeous - who would know a hurricane just blew through!!!!  So happy for the newlyweds!!!!  And all your family!!!

  • LadyBluefire

Anna - now my 5th wants to serve but he wants to be a Navy pilot. I told him he has to do better in math first, lol. He is only 12. 4 kids serving can't be that much harder than 3 serving. My daughter is waiting for C school in FL. She just got off base liberty.

Oleander - my daughter wants to be an RDC for a stint, she surprised herself saying that, I wonder if she still feels that way. This was right after boot camp. Doh, I was mixing up recruiter with RDC but she did mentio wanting to be an RDC. My coffee hasn;t kicked in and I am on pins and nedles hoping SR#3 calls to tell me he is a sailor today.

JayDee - your daughter is lovely!

  • Anna

    LadyBluefire,

My daughter wanted to be a pilot (she has her private pilot's license ) but the pilot pipeline is so crowded she could only get Flight Officer.  Good luck to #5!!!!!

    Oleander,

Your 400 - 500 miles from our Sailor Son, and after staying with them for three weeks this spring, I've decided I can't do the desert life!!!  Give me the mountains and lush greens!!!  I'm glad your daughter will be near her sister and her family!!

  • Blondie

    Wow, so much going on!

JayDee, Love the Wedding Picture!!!  Glad it went without any problems.

Anna's living in a house now!

Oleander,  Wonderful news, being close to Family is everything!

  • Blondie

Life here is crazy as ever. Working in a Doctor's office during these times is straining. Things changing constantly from cleaning, to pt. flow and hours, billing/coding.....

Haven't see eldest son, he's in a hot spot. Youngest son has been treating Covid pts. ( 1 clinic and 2 hospitals) so lots of cleaning and distancing....Haven't seen Connor yet! Eldest daughter (with miracle baby) has been working from home, they just sold their condo and moved to a house. Whole basement is ours (Hubby and mine)!  Bedroom, bath, living room, office and deck. Glad  my children all think of me when buying. They even put an apartment size refrigerator down there. But I get all the laundry Hahaha  Youngest daughter (vet) and Husband(active) and Tahlia will put their house up for sale tomorrow. Anyone need a 5 bedroom in Virginia Beach?  Making final arrangements to move to England by the end of the year. Waiting on both Countries to go green and his replacement to arrive on base....Hauled all their trucks to home, had to move guns, we have 1 of their dogs, they think they're taking the other dog, if they can get all the pass ports and physicals done....there's so much hold up!

Glad to see everyone is carrying on.

    Hugs to all

  • LadyBluefire

Oleander - lol. As a girl I can't imagine being on a ship. My husband loved being on the aircraft carriers he was on. Recruiting seems to be a lot of paperwork but also pretty chill from what I saw at our office. Being so close to family will help. They can only recruit for a few years right? Then back to the fleet? LOL @ 98 being an arctic blast!

Anna - not sure I want a 5th kid in the Navy. He loved Top Gun and wants to be "better than Maverick" but if a goal like that encourages him to do his best in school I am all for it!

Blondie - I need a nap after reading all that! Where in England? I lived there for 5 years when my dad was Air Force.

  • Blondie

Wow, just checked my spam, that's where you all have been hanging out!  LOL  Not a good thing cause I use my emial a lot for work. :(

LadyBluefire my daughter did 5 years on ship and 5 years on land. She says you get use to it and become a minimalist. LOL I have the nickname of the energizer bunny, I didn't include my garden and family needs....or that I put over 5000 miles on my new van in less then a month. we went to Virginia, Columbus Ohio twice, Pittsburgh PA and 3 more trips to Columbus. While working and gardening (I can and freeze) and mowing an acre. I don't sleep much. :)

England, we don't know where yet, I'm sure the kids do but.... They are(were) both Intel and we get info as need to know.  I have to assume since daughter and T are on his orders and it's for 4 years that it will be a base this time.

  • JayDee659

Thanks for all the wedding wishes ladies. It was a glorious day.

Anna how's apartment life? Can you tell us what part of the country that you have settled in?

Blondie, I can't keep up with you! Wish I had your energy. I'm still working from home and absolutely LOVE it.

Oleander how does your sailor like Pensacola? We vacation in Perdido Key and just live that area.

  • JayDee659

LadyBluefire, my daughter is on a carrier and as Oleander said, there isn't much room.  I spent 4 days with her on a Tiger Cruise and only took the essentials with me.  Glad I did because there wasn't room for anything!  I did like sleeping on the ship though, the motion helped me sleep.

Oleander, your daughter is in FL during the rainy season.  August and Sept are the worst.  Hopefully she'll get a couple of nice days before she has to leave.

Hopefully, I'm not repeating myself, but my daughter was named LPO for her department.  Nice little pat on the back :)

  • Blondie

Hahaha, Wonder women. I like that better then a bunny running around!

Two Tuesdays ago I had a day off (my paying job) I fit in 6 appointments, Doctors, oil change, dog groomers... Oh and had to buy a clothes dryer because my husband broke mine. I just had them load it in my van, hubby had to figure it out once I got home. Left my house at 9 am, stopped to pick up dogs and drop them off again and finally got home for the evening at 4:30. By the time I made supper, ate and showered I was Exhausted.  Told Hubby I should have worked it, at least I would have made money instead of spend it!  And that is why I hurt all the time and can't sleep. Just not enuff hours in the day.

  • Shoosh

Oleander I have not heard anything from my girl. It was a week yesterday. It's so hard. I thought I was doing pretty well, but the last couple of days I have had several breakdowns. We have had several deaths in the family too, one the night before she left (she does not know, we decided not to tell her), one right after she left and one this past Monday. So that isn't helping with my emotions.

I did have my 3 month old granddaughter for a few hours the other day, that definitely lifted my spirits.

Thank you again to all of you for your support. xo

  • Anna

    LadyBluefire,

I totally understand having 5 serving!!!  Our oldest son is the only of our 4 kids that had no interest in going in the military.  But you’re right, if having a goal like that helps with his current school studies than it is all good!!!!

    JayDee,

I’m sorry, I thought I mentioned that we are living in Asheville, NC!!!  Actually, our apartment is just north of the city between Woodfin and Weaverville.  It is pretty quiet here and not as much traffic. And I have a fantastic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains!!!!

I love Perdido Key!!  Jennifer lives not far from there. She is right off the road that takes you to Perdido Key!! There is a small restaurant right as you get over the bridge called The Jellyfish. It is really good food!!!!  And in the same parking lot is a really cool boutique that Jennifer always take me to!!!  At least I hope they both survived the virus shutdowns!!!  It’s called the Barefoot Gypsy.

    Oleander,

I hope your daughter gets a chance to explore a little bit before she finishes her training.  If she can rent a car, she should really try to go to Pensacola Beach just to experience it.  Have lunch at one of the seafood restaurants. And also drive to Perdido Key and go to Johnson Beach which charges an entrance fee.  But active duty military get in free with their ID card.  It is not as crowded as the other beaches because of the entrance fee!!

Your comment made me chuckle!!!  You know me - - I could never do Intelligence!!!  OS is Operations Specialist.  It used to be the old Radarman rating!!!  They changed the name when it became open for women!!!  And yes the #1 girl was in Fallon, NV (of all places – where my son is now!!) and her paperwork went in just before mine!!!

If anyone out there is listening – I would LOVE to go on a Tiger Cruise before I’m too old to handle those ladders and passageways!!!!

Any word from our new Sailors Shoosh, VillageMum, and Rebecca???

  • Anna

    Shoosh,

I am so sorry to hear of your losses.  That would be enough to keep your emotions raw.  You made the right decision to not tell her yet, I had to keep news like that from my son when he was in bootcamp and a real good friend of his died in a car accident.  No need to give them anything to distract them from all they are going through.

  • Blondie

Shoosh, hang in there.  Babies always lift our spirits!  My daughter was over seas 5 years and missed a lot of funerals, weddings, births....It's always hard but we do the best we can. We have to think of their mental health too. After the fact my daughter was Always glad we withheld information.   I'm sorry for your losses. Gentle Hugs

Anna, so it's like going home for you. LOL  Glad you have good memories of the area and pray they survive.

  • LadyBluefire

Shoosh you will come out of this experience stronger for it!

Oleander - I think you figured out Blondie's secret identity. It is good when they re-up when they don;t have an exit plan. We advised our kids to do the same. My oldest son is already saying he may do 20. His job is cake so I can understand why.

JayDee - I was wondering about Tiger Cruises. Was it a WestPac? My husband and his dad did a Tiger Cruise near the end of his WestPac tour. Picked up in HI and dropped off in CA. Congrats on your daughter getting LPO! What is her rate? We stay in Perdido Key when we visit our girl in Pensacola.

Blondie - in contrast I put 5,000 miles on my car in as many years! My hubby has more as we drove to NM and back, GA and back and VA and back. I can't imagine 6 appts in 7.5 hours! That is impressive as dr appts can go long unless they are better about wait times these days, lol. My dad was stationed at Bentwaters and I went to Woodbridge Elementary and High School and we lived in Leiston - almost an hour from base.

Anna - oh the Blue Ridge mts are so beautiful! I stayed in Pigeon Forge once and of course NC. We saw where they filmed part of the Last of the Mohicans.

  • Anna

    Blondie,

Good to see you here again!!!

    LadyBluefire,

When we were traveling we visited so many mountains - Washington, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California, Colorado, so many!!  Camped outside the Rocky Mountains! But those places were either too far west to be near the children or had too much snow.  The Smokies seemed like the best choice for us!!  What does your daughter do in P'cola??

    Oleander,

I have such an interesting little story for you.  I told Jenn about Q's training and she knows exactly where your girl is!! After the shooting incident Jenn's crew moved into that building for a time being while the Navy was getting another building ready for them.  They had to be out by the spring because the other occupants needed all their space by then!!!!!

  • JayDee659

LadyBlueFire my daughter my daughter is a Nuke who's home port is Norfolk. Our Tiger Cruise was from Mayport to Norfolk. Loved every moment.  It was just the right amount of time to be on the ship.  Funny thing, we came in tje day of the solar eclipse. We live in the Louisville KY area. So while I was out of town everyone was traveling to Louisville as it was prime viewing for the event. We missed it in Norfolk but never regretted it.

  • Anna

Well Ladies, things are starting to settle for Officer daughter Jenn.  She's in Pensacola and got slammed with Sally.  Damage at the house she rents, fencing down, shingles torn off, roof leaking, a little damage in her garage with stuff falling on her jeep, but all in all she is doing ok.  Worst things was all the time with no power.  Lucky for her she owns a small RV trailer and spent last night in it at a campground up north that had power.  She will loose most everything in the fridge and freezer but she's happy it wasn't worse.  Her office building however is right on the water on base and it is flooded and had water coming in the roof.  There is a mess to clean up there!!!!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

  • Anna

    RIP Notorious RBG!!!!!

  • Anna

    Oleander,

Yes, she got power back and went back home. Yesterday she invited a friend and her young son to stay with her cause they didn't have power and they just live a few miles down the road from her. Haven't talked to her today about the fence and what she is doing about letting the dogs out!!! They are used to having their doggy door and going outside whenever they want.

  • Anna

I'm glad Q made it through also!!!  She should mention to her school command there about the need for flashlights in the barracks.  That wind was a force!!!!

  • Shoosh

Good morning Ladies! I haven't been on much because I was away on a much needed girls trip, and trying to play catch up since I've been home. I received a call from my daughter yesterday and I was so happy to see the area code!! However, she was crying when I answered. She said she was ok, just missed me. But after her letter, which was so upbeat and positive, this was not the phone call I was expecting. It broke my heart. (And it was literally 3 minutes long. I am reading all these others are getting 15, 30 minute phone calls!!) My son said it is normal reaction, as she's been gone for 5+ weeks and this is her first contact with me. I get that, but it was oh so hard!!! So good to hear her voice, but so difficult to hear it like that. I kept it together and told her how strong she was and that she only has 2 1/2 weeks left (which is crazy to me).

    Hope you all are well!

  • Blondie

    Shoosh

I remember those calls Oh so HARD!  You did GREAT reassuring her and staying strong yourself. Hugs to you though cause we all know how hard it is.

  • Shoosh

Blondie and Oleander - Thank you for your kind words, hugs and positive energy. I am a reiki practitioner and I was sending her all kinds of reiki last night!! I had it together but now the tears are falling again. I wish we had a longer conversation, it was so quick. Why do some get longer phone calls than others?

Girls weekend...waiting for luggage I noticed a woman wearing a "navy mom" shirt. Of course I approached her :) I would have hugged her if this were not crazy COVID time. And then on the way back, we missed a connecting flight and the airline worker who was helping us was wearing a mask that said "proud mom of a sailor". GO NAVY

  • Shoosh

Oleander, yes I would say 3 and you are done!! Congrats on your girl finishing her training!!

  • LadyBluefire

    Morning ladies!

Oleander - oh my! A bomb threat?! Goodness!

Shoosh - PIR 10/22? so div 402 or 412 I am assuming. My son is 10/22 PIR.

I have not been on here too much as nothing much going on with my daughter. Just waiting for C school this month.

Enjoying communicating with my other 2 sailors (fleet and A school) and anxiously awaiting #4 to PIR soon!

  • JayDee659

Shoosh, our girls are strong and cope very well, but then when they hear our voices, they realize how much they miss and depend on us and they give in a relax for a little bit.  When we're around they don't have to be the strong one for a minute.

Oleander, sounds like you had a busy month!  Thank goodness training is over and the new part of the adventure is beginning.

I received a joint call from both of my girls on Saturday for my birthday.  When my girls started singing to me, my sailor was quiet and hesitant.  We quickly figured out why as we started hearing more voices in the back ground, she was in her office and her whole crew joined in the song!

Hurricane Sally was kind of a surprise.  My husband is a cat adjuster so hurricanes are our life.  It's my understanding that it made a last minute turn most of Pensacola wasn't prepared.

  • LadyBluefire

Oleander - having lived in FL my whole adult life when it comes to most hurricanes I am like meh....2004 was a doozy year for me....and though I did not have much damage whenever Irma came though - the river flooded and I could kayak my property for 3 months or so. If memory serves. We were under 4 ft of water so we bought kayaks and had to kayak to take out the trash, lol.

All graduations are virtual but they are not even like the old PIRs of the past. Just them marching in their NWUs outside. Division by division - a sea of masked kids you can't identify.

I was excited that my #3 was going to have something viewable (#1 and #2 happened after they stopped even taking pics in their compartments) but at the last minute his div was put in a 15 hour ROM over a COVID scare so no marching for him. I cried for 2 days. Hoping upon hope I see #4 march...

  • LadyBluefire

Oleander - we had spent years clearing our property and Matthew and Irma pretty much ruined that between 45-50 downed trees (none of the dead ones we needed to take down of course) and the flooding bringing in a bunch of stuff.

    2017 09 24 taking trash out.jpg

  • Shoosh

    LadyBlueFire omg!! What a picture!!!

I'm hoping right along with you to see them on 10/23!!!

  • Anna

    Shoosh,

I'm so glad you got to hear from your girl.  It's true that those phone calls can be emotional for them.  I'm glad you were able to stay strong for her. It will be different once she gets through bootcamp and communications between the two of you will be so much easier!!!!

    LadyBluefire,

That is some picture!!!  I can just imagine what could be in those flood waters!!!!  Really hoping you get to see your sailor march even if it is a modified PIR!!!!

    Oleander,

Congrats to your girl on completing her training and getting out of P'cola!!!  I know sometimes my sailor girl wishes she could leave there!!!  She went through the shooting in December, moving her offices twice because of that. Then the hurricane caused damage to the house she is renting and the offices they are in now!! The bomb threat didn't affect her directly but it's just another scary moment for that base.  And now we have Delta warming up in the gulf to hit the coast!!  She admitted to me that she feels like she is suffering some PTSD issues when she hears certain noises.  There is still quite a bit of debris piled around from Sally and she's concerned that could become projectiles in heavy winds caused by Delta.  Just not a good place to be until it goes past!!!

    JayDee,

So happy you got to talk to both your girls on your birthday!!!  I hope you had a great celebration and made more special memories!!!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

I saw this in one of my facebook groups – “if you have Verizon as your phone carrier they have rolled out a program that automatically takes the Unknown and Potential Spam calls and sends them to your voicemail.  This has already been placed on your account.  You can call Verizon or use the My Verizon app to opt out of this services.  If you have the app you can go to Contact Us and choose We’ll Call You and put Other as reason and choose Call Me as soon as possible.”

This is especially important if you have an SR in bootcamp or a sailor deployed.  You don’t want to miss any calls!

I don't know about other carriers but I can vouch for this happening with Verizon as I have Verizon.

  • Shoosh

Good morning and Happy Sunday!! I haven't posted here in a while, but thought I'd update you all.

My SR was sent to ROM 5 days before her PIR along with 11 others due to 2 of them testing positive for COVID. She called her dad last night and he missed the call, but her message did say she finished ROM and starts back up training tomorrow and has been reassigned to Ship 4 Div 006. So that is a PIR of 11/12. I was hoping she'd jump right back in and PIR this week, but maybe this is better. She'll be able to work on her runtime.

Note: her dad said she sounded awful in her message, and then forwarded it to me. Ha - if only he heard the last two calls. She sounds amazing!! And strong!! They save the tough stuff for their mamas, they know we can handle it :)

  • JayDee659

Shoosh, I'm glad to hear that your daughter has a PIR date and is getting ready for the next step!  You must be excited for her to be at A school when the contact between us and them is much easier.

You're right, the communication they have between mom and dad is totally different.  Women understand women.

How was everybody's Halloween?  We had ZERO trick or treaters (not unexpected) and now have 500 pieces of chocolate to consume.  Today it's incredibly windy out, seems more like fall.

Not sure I mentioned it, but my sailor took 6 staples to the head last month.  Some numb nut left a tool locker open and she apparently closed it with her head.  The corpsman was about to start stapling (which he'd never done before) when fortunately a senior medical officer walked in, saw what was happening) and asked the corpsman if he'd ever stapled before.  My daughter said she turned into a teaching session on how to staple a scalp.  Then they limited her to restricted duty, unable to stand or walk more than 10 minutes at a time.  It's over 1/2 hour walk from parking to her ship.  The Navy is genius!  Fortunately the staples are out and it's all over with now.  Oh, and they put the staples in without any local  Geeze!

  • Shoosh

JayDee659 oh my goodness!! Your poor girl!! Glad the staples are out but that must have been a horrible experience.

We got snow on Friday and Saturday was super chilly. 28 degrees at trick or treat. BRRRR....We never get any kids, so I stopped buying candy. I did, however, go to the grocery store yesterday morning hoping to pick up a couple of bags 1/2 price. Would you believe there was NOTHING?? So strange!! Guess someone is telling me I don't need the chocolate haha.

    Happy Monday!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

  • Blondie

Merry Christmas! We have 5 inches of fresh new snow from last night. 17 degrees, windchill 7.

  • thesuperm72

Hi ladies! Hope you're all having a great new year so far! I came on here today for some encouragement. My sailor daughter has been in for almost a year and a half. She'll finish up training in July/August and then be deployed on a carrier. I was on a FB group today, and read some very disturbing information about how women are treated and I'm freaking out. One mom recounted how sexual assault is common and if they speak up, they're treated even worse. Please, please, please tell me this is less common than was made out to be? I need to know my girl is safe (I know things happen, but it shouldn't be common). Please help me balance this with good. I'm fully freaked out and praying my heart out. But the stories are floating in my head. Thank you so much for being here and letting me share.

  • JayDee659

The Superm72 breathe! My daughter (also a Nuke) says it can happen so one should always be vigilant. But with that being said she hasn't had any issues. The people in her shop will help her watch out. She will berth with other female Nukes. Do you know what ship she will be on? PM me. We can chat. Just don't panic.

  • Cali's mama

My daughter just grad 2/25/2021 ship 7 div 136..now in A school in the great lakes...soon to b off to japan!!! I'm both excited and horrified lol..looking for support,!! 2 years in another country is so long as she will only b 20 in just a few days as well...confusing tears
  • JayDee659

    Cali's Mama, congratulations!

Oleander is right, time will go faster than you would think. We have strong girls and they surprise us with how grown up they are. Sometimes all we have to do is step back and let them fly.

My daughter finished all her schooling and was flown out to meet her carrier mid deployment. She sent me a picture of herself strapped in the plane, getting ready to fly out to the carrier at 3 am. It made my mommas heart stop for a second. Then I realized that she was living her dream and I just had to support her

Hang in there. We are here to sound off on anytime. NMH

    Hello Ladies,

Wow, I haven't posted anything for awhile, been crazy busy with some family things.  Nice to get all caught up with everyone!!! My sailors have been doing well.  Officer daughter just got accepted for a psychology program she has been wanting to get into and we are so excited for that.  There was an article done on her through the Women In Aviation chapter which I will share in a separate post.  Our sailor son is in Japan on a 6 to 7 month deployment.  He put in for Warrant Officer but was not selected this time.  He was waiting word at the same time his sister was waiting to hear on her application and he told her this was her year and he'd wait until next year!!!!  How sweet!!!! Hope everyone is doing well and the same for their sailors.

Member highlight of the week, Jennifer! #waigulfocast #womeninaviation

Jennifer grew up in Augusta, GA flying with her Dad in a Cessna 172 since she was 8 years old. She moved to Cleveland, OH and got her private pilot’s license through Kent State University and graduated with a Chemistry degree from the University of Akron. In 2010, she joined the Navy and was commissioned as an officer in 2012. Her first duty station was NAS Pensacola, where she trained on the T-6B as a Naval Flight Officer. She selected the E-6 Mercury in 2014 and transferred to Tinker AFB, OK. Jennifer received her Wings of Gold in 2016. While at VQ-3 in Oklahoma, she became an Aviation Safety Officer and found her passion for aviation safety. In 2019 she transferred back to NAS Pensacola to teach Crew Resource Management at the Naval School of Aviation Safety. In 2021, she was selected for lateral transfer to the Navy’s Aerospace Experimental Psychology program and will receive her second Wings of Gold in 2022. She has her eyes set on a PhD in Aviation with a human factors specialization and is hoping to stay in Pensacola, FL for her next tour. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys playing with her dogs, exploring the outdoors, and RV-ing!
