    Good Day!

"For we are God's masterpiece. He created

us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the

good things he planned for us long ago."

I missed the box! FedEx left a note on the door...
  • Marie

For those who haven't received the BOX yet.....fedex requires a signature because most boxes contain cell phones. If you put a signed note on the door asking to leave the box, they will....If you feel comfortable doing that in your neighborhood. I was lucky, the fedex lady stopped me just leaving the house.
  • Anna

No Box, no note...My Hubs gently reminded me, we are probably furthest away from the others.  I just want to get contact started....

  • lionness21

You will get it soon!!  I received my box and form letter the day after others were saying they received theirs.  No worries.  No news is good news.

  • Renee

Our son left for BC pm December 4th, the form letter was post marked on December 11th and we got it December 15th. His first letters home came came a few days after that.  The waiting sucks, but that first letter makes everything better :)

Good afternoon g everyone! I would like to extend an attitude of gratitude to all the admins and everyone else on this site for their posts. The information on this site helped me in so many ways. My son's PIR was this past weekend! I was overwhelmed with tears of joy when our Sailors came marching into the drill hall! What an amazing and spectacular PIR! Thank you RDC's and chain of commands who helped in the transformation of our young men and women into Sailors! I take great PRIDE of being a part of the NAVY family! God Bless the USA...GO NAVY!!!- :-) :-)
  • MaryNavywife/mom

I wanted to share this from the official RTC facebook page. Sorry if it's already been posted

Can our sailor come with us to the Navy Lodge after PIR if she's leaving GL? She was told no, but I remember seeing something on here that she could.

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command Yes, she can visit.

    Without chit permission or with?

Thank you for answering all of our questions.
    Like · Reply · February 5 at 11:39am

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command Graduating recruits checking into TSC no longer need a chit to visit Navy Lodge or Gateway for graduation weekend only. After that weekend, as students, they are not permitted to visit either location.

    Hello Friends!

         "I will go in the strength of the Lord God;

I will make mention of Your righteousness,

          of Yours only."

  • CatMom509

Also, the Box and the Form letter come separately.  If you want to receive the Box at the first attempt at delivery-- and don't mind it being left on your porch like Marie advised below--  leave a signed and dated note for FedEx on your door~~

  • TML629

So got home today andmissed my box by 5 mins. But signed the door slip and it is ready for tomorrow.

  • Caroline

Got my box today. Hoping for her PIR letter by the end of the week.
  • Caroline

    We live in Florida.

My future son in law (hospital corpsman) will be leaving for boot camp at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX on March 2nd. Looks like both his boot camp and A school will be at that location.
  • lemonelephant

motherinlaw, the Navy's only boot camp is in Great Lakes, IL. Following BC, he will fly out to San Antonio for "A" School the day after PIR.

  • Marie

My son arrived at bc early morning hours of feb 4th from Tampa. Yippee! Got the box yesterday and the letter today! He is on ship 4, division 125, and has a PIR date of March 27th (earlier than I expected). I have already mailed letters to him now that I have an address and can't wait to hear from him!
  • Marie

Caroline, your daughter and my son were on the same flight from Tampa. Got my letter today, betty yours will come within the next day or two! I hope so!

I thought all BC was in GL
  • Concerned Mom & Dad

Good Evening Ladies, I hope you ll are doing very well! Quick ? for you. My SR's girlfriend would like to send him Valentine Card at BC. She plans to send in white Hallmark card sized envelope so as not to get him in trouble. However, it is not a standard size 10 envelope. Is sending a card of any kind (in white envelope) permissable while in boot camp? I look forward to hearing from you. Kindest Regards, Concerned Mom
  • Marie

I'm no expert for sure but have done a lot of reading. Cards are fine....no glitter, no misical cards, envelope shape doesn't matter, best not to have stickers on outside etc.
  • Concerned Mom & Dad

Hi Marie, Thank you very much for your reply, I greatly appreciate it. I had indicated no stickers, colored envelope, etc.. but was uncertain about cards in general even if in white envelope. Thank you very much again! Concerned Mom :)
  • diannep

Tiff, correct.  All Bootcamp training is at GL, but A Schools are all over the the country.

  • b_radsmom

Will sailors be allowed to visit with family after PIR at the Navy Lodge only? We have rooms booked at another area hotel. My son will be leaving GL for A school.
  • lionness21

Are you sure?  I thought all Navy boot camp was in Great Lakes.  My son will head to SA for A school as well after basic.

  • Caroline

Thank you Marie! That is fast! My son had PIR in Sept so this is my 2nd go round!
  • tori'smom

Hi,  I was just reading through and saw the posts about cards... so can someone clarify for me what is acceptable to send.. I saw no glitter, musical, or stickers on envelop.  But envelops have to be white only?  and cards are ok to break up the receiving of letters only.  I want to spread the word to family.  And another question- why can't they have colored envelops?  So much to learn!

  • lionness21

Personally, I wouldn't want to draw any unwanted attention to my SR by sending colored envelopes.

  • lemonelephant

See the info in the Letter Writing page. The Pages are found under the pictures of the members to the right. Cards are fine and some RDC's don't care about colored envelopes. Don't send musical cards or cards with glitter or anything that will transfer and mess up an inspection. Make sure the card does not require additional postage because if it does it will have to be opened in front of the RDC.
  • tori'smom

wow I had no idea.... Her birthday is next week... she asked us to not send birthday cards bc she had heard she could draw unwanted attention.  I thought she was kidding.  Well I am glad I found all of this out.  Again I had no idea that mail could be an issue.  Thanks

  • lemonelephant

Some, not all, RDC's will give IT for colored envelopes. Some don't care about the color of envelopes. The bottom line is if a Recruit or division needs extra help to get ready for the PFA and BST then the RDC is going to use any opportunity to give that help.
  • diannep

tori'smom:  Maybe make a cute "birthday card" on paper and send that instead since you asked you not to send cards....it would be unique and have a personal touch!  I bet she will love it.  Same for you, LauraCam....a belated birthday letter!  Even though cards are usually fine to send, if your SR asks you not to send something, always honor that....they may have some tough RDCs who look to give them IT for anything and everything!

  • CryptoDad

    From the RTC FB notes:

WHAT CAN I SEND OR NOT SEND MY RECRUIT:

Recruits are allowed to receive letters, cards, photos, stationery, envelopes and stamps. You should first ask your recruit if he/she is allowed to receive any newsaper/magazine articles as it is up to each division's Recruit Division Commanders (RDCs) if they may or may not receive those. Sending cards in colored envelopes is fine. Sending musical cards is strongly discouraged as your recruit may not appreciate having to open such a card in the presence of his/her shipmates where everyone can hear it. Do NOT send any type of glitter in cards or letters to your recruit. Please keep in mind they are in military training and do get frequent inspections and any glitter found in their racks (bunks) will cause them to receive a negative mark. Keep your letters/cards simple. Recruits may receive one pair of contacts and one week's worth of solution to wear for photos and/or graduation. Female recruits are permitted to receive minimal makeup items to wear for photos and/or graduation. Recruits may NOT receive any other type of care packages or food items. All food items are discarded.

Two weeks in advance of my Recruit's 18th birthday, we took apart a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" banner made of 13 linked letters and began sending her a letter a day inside a birthday card, often in colored envelopes. No repercussions from the RDCs. YMMV

If an RDC wants to assign IT to a Recruit, s/he will find a reason. Worrying that something you might do will trigger punishment is unnecessary. Nearly any Recruit would gladly do a few extra push-ups for a birthday card. The alternative, no birthday cards, could be heartbreaking. My 2¢.

  • nikkosmom

So glad to see this info as my son will celebrate his birthday while in BC! I am already so overwhelmed with all the regulations and info and he hasn't even left yet! Thank you for your help and info.

  • Concerned Mom & Dad

Much thanks to all who responded to my card query. Greatly Appreciated! Kindest Regards, Concerned Mom
  • momsports

Are there any restrictions on postcards?

  • BootsnPanama

    Postcards might get read aloud.
  • tori'smom

Thanks CryptoDad for your 2 cents... it was worth a million!! :)

  • tori'smom

diannep- I like that idea of making a card... she would get a giggle out of that!!  I don't want to go against her wishes and i know her little nephews will be making homemade cards as well.  We'll find a way to make her day special!  :)

  • Jodie

Oh crap I just mailed valentines day cards with respect envelopes.....:(

I made sure there was no glitter and no sound but I didn't know about the colored envelope part. I hope he doesn't get mad at me for that if he gets punished!
  • DENavyMom

I mailed a Valentine's card last week in a red envelope...oops.  My son said he doesn't mind the extra PT, he enjoys push ups.

  • Tiff S

I sent my son a few cards with colored envolpes and so far, all feed back was good from him.
  • b_radsmom

Thank you DsMom. That is helpful. I'm so looking forward to spending time with my new sailor!! :)

  • Christal

I mailed 3 Valentine cards to my son. Thur- Sat. The first one was a bought card, the other two were printed. Nothing too flashy or mushy. LOL All sent in white envelopes.

  • TML629

I got my box today but I did not get my letter yet. I thought I saw someone else say that there Son went in on Feb 4 My son started the same day but they noted an RIP date of 3/27 I thought BC was 8 weeks.

  • CatMom509

    TML,

Lol!!  PIR (Pass in Review) date!

Boot Camp is typically 9 weeks counting 9 Fridays starting with the Friday of the week of their arrival.

  • CatMom509

    Greetings!

          "For we are His workmanship,

created in Christ Jesus for good works,

           which God prepared beforehand that

           we should walk in them."

                                                Ephesians 2:10

  • TML629

Question does anyone think they may have moved up a date because 9 weeks would be easter weekend?
