@Gundo girl - thanks! I do still have a little time. How many would you say I should send? :)
  • TessaNator⚓️

FYI-Please be careful of ordering 'magnetic' address book.  The magnet will 'demagnetize your credit/debit cards.

  • jennifer

Joeysmom98- the addresses on paper should be fine. They can take a 20 dollar phone card. I found ours at dollar General. I know CVS has them...I couldn't find it at Kinneys. Not sure what stores are around you. Also if she has an account at yr bank.

I sent a 1199..or 1198 form. Does your son have the recruit magazine? There is a list in there. Also needs SS card. Goodluck!

Thought we could all use some humor!

  • jennifer

Good point about the magnet. I found a tiny accordion religious address book....it fit so well in his wallet. No magnet. Size of a prayer card. I listed phone numbers too. He didn't want a bible so I got that instead. Probs my only made me feel good. Lol. I like the cartoons posted.
  • Proudmama82

LOL!! Those are so funny and true!
  • NickSydmom

    Tessa love the pics

    Love the pics!
  • Phoenixmom

    Great Humor! Love it!

  • TessaNator⚓️

I went on Pinterest, copied and pasted a bunch.  Sending one in each letter/card to help with morale.   Send some to your kiddos, a little giggle or chuckle always helps so much when you are feeling overwhelmed!

    Phases of boot camp!

  • Phoenixmom

I like! and I know what you mean I love the puppy one! I just wish I knew what he was doing and what he's thinking or going thru his mind, but then he is probably so tired he aint thinking. LOL!

  • BoyMom4

@TessaNator ... I've been sending my son the same types of letters!! My dude is a huge fan of memes & random funny-ness, so as much as I want to write him asking a billion questions, lol, I've refrained & decided to send things I know he will enjoy. ;)
  • jennifer

Great ideas. I appreciate the ideas too. I've only received one letter which it fine. I got an email too so I feel lucky. But his friend at West Point just mailed me the sweetest letter. Made my day. Made me so emotional. He is training and said he was thinking of my son!! So sweet.

My son just left MEPS this morning for boot camp. I am feeling very emotional today. I am so excited for his adventure, but anxious and nervous at the same time. I am not looking forward to not talking to him whenever I want to either. Missing him so much already.
I have a question (a bit ahead of myself here, but someone asked me) will my son wear Navy dress blues or whites for graduation in September?
  • raising3247

JoeysMom98 - I believe they make the switch to dress blues after Labor Day but I'm not completely sure.
  • TessaNator⚓️

    Mommy misses him too
  • ellen0502

Don't forget to join and post in your PIR group too. There is valuable information to be had in those groups about PIR, hotels, what to wear, what happens in BC by weeks, pictures, coins. It also give you the opportunity to get to know those who have recruits in the same divisions and brother divisions. You can also find out info on A School, C School etc for your recruits rating.

Back to square one. Yesterday I received a call from our son that he will not be attending PIR on 9/1 due to illness. My heart is broken for him. Now I sit and wait to hear what Ship/Div he will be reassigned to and a new PIR date once he gets better. I really need help getting through this. :(

  • Anti M

Alicia, this happens to some recruits.  RTC wants them healthy, as an illness under stress can turn serious so quickly.  While it is disappointing, it is better to take good care of them.  Keep writing, and try to stay positive.  It is perfectly fine to feel upset, but keep your eyes on the end result: a healthy sailor.

My friend, who I consider an acquired kid, broke his leg in boot camp!  Six weeks delay, but now he is a first class, on great shore duty, with a spouse he met in the Navy, and a pair of adorable twin babies.  Eyes on the prize!

  • Alicia In AZ

Thank you Anti M. I'm glad they caught it when they did, just not sure how long it will take to recover. Ugh, the not knowing, that's what kills us, haha! I'm just glad they have him where he needs to be and hopefully resting and recovering. I mailed a letter today, sent 13 letters yesterday, but to the old ship. Not sure when he will get those ones now. He did say he received the ones I mailed last week.

His recruiter gave me a number to PAO?? Not sure what I should call them for, does anyone have advise on this?

  • Rumace

Thank goodness for this site and what I have already learned from it.  My son shipped out on July 10.  I have been waiting for that first letter expecting it in the next couple days.  I did sign up for Informed Delivery (as someone here suggested).

This morning when I was checking on the Informed Delivery, I realized that I could see mail that I should have received over the past week.  I looked back on July 15th and saw a letter from my son that we should have received but didn't.  The letter was postmarked July 12th.  The return address on envelop shows Ship 13, Div 272.

From this information, it looks like he graduates September 1.  Is that right?

  • Boymom

Rumace, 9/1 is correct! My son shipped out the same day as yours and is in the same division and ship. We got our letter last Saturday and it was postmarked the 12th as well.
  • Rumace

Thank you!  Do you know if he flies to Goose Creek on September 2nd, if graduation is September 1st?

  • librarianmom

I am almost in tears!  I was in shower just now and missed a North Chicago phone call by three minutes.  I am sure it was my son...I didn't think he would call this early and didn't have my phone with me!!!

  • AnchorsAweigh!

To Librarianmom, I truly feel for you, but hopefully he can call back. Fingers crossed. Now I will take the darn phone in the bathroom because I cannot wait to hear my sons voice, hopefully in 2 more weeks...
  • librarianmom

Update...my son left a message on his girlfriends phone.  My husband and I both missed the call, and she did as well.  He was calling for business, to let us know his Eagle Work paperwork finally went through (which is great news).  He said he would call in about two weeks.  I just feel really, really sad I missed the call.  That we all did.  I have been carrying my phone everywhere and can't believe he called during the five minutes I was in the shower!

  • raising3247

Librarianmom- That is my biggest fear that the one time I don't have my phone on me is when my son will call. I'm sorry you missed your son's call.
  • Path to greater things

Hugs to moms who missed calls. To moms who Didnt get calls and to the ones that got calls. Its all incredibly emotional, No matter which is happening. Have a safe weekend !
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Joeysmum, my son has been in Boot for a week now and I did exactly that, put addresses on a piece of paper and folded it up In his wallet. That he was allowed to keep. It wasn't sent back in the box. Good luck to your son.
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Oh sorry I just saw you posted this yesterday. Sorry
  • NickSydmom

Librarian mom I want to cry just hearing about it. I thought I was the only one stuff like that happened to.
  • jennifer

It happened to me last weekend. I had no service for about 10 minutes. He left me a quick message. So I listened to that this week...silly. Keep busy it will go fast. One of the other mom's stated she learned to be patient and not plan on anything. She is right. I was cuckoo the first time around 8 yrs ago. This time...I forced myself to squash the anxiousness. Easier said than done. But we know they are safe and well looked after. Deployment was the hardest for me. I wish I had a network like this back then. Boot camp puts our life in a new state of mind.Happy Friday everyone.
  • Nicole

My son is in boot camp and graduation date is 8/25/2017. Miss him and didn't get the letter yet
  • TessaNator⚓️

Rumace- sadly, yes they fly out on saturday

  • TessaNator⚓️

librarianmom, they will probably let him try again

  • Christie_Okie

Nicole....oh man, I'd be going nuts. I am sure you are about there. A month and no form letter!!!
  • Rumace

Thanks TessaNator.  It will be a short time but at least we'll have it.

  • jennifer

Rumance- you can meet them at the airport for more time also.
  • Nicole

Ya I am miss him terribly
  • JEL4812

I'm new to the group. My son arrived at RTC July 17. Does anyone know how long it takes for a new PIR group to form? My son's recruiter told me his anticipated PIR is Sept. 15.

  • Gundo Girl

How often do the SR's receive mail? I have sent several letters and just sent one through Sandboxx. Just curious if they receive their mail every day, once a week, etc?
