Familyof6 - I have occupied myself by redoing my daughters bedroom.  We have also went on a couple weekend trips to my grandparents house near Lake Michigan.  Of course the whole time we are there I keep thinking that if feels odd not having my son there with us because he loves to go fishing.

  • TAT'sMom

Prayers for healing and back on track soon for his dream.
  • librarianmom

Please don't feel like you need to apologize...it was hard to wait for the first call. I remember...it was just a week ago I got mine. It was such a relief! Hang in there...it will come soon and it will make the next week even better. I got letters before the call and that helped a lot too.
  • Familyof6

librarianmom - please let me know what you hear. I thought about your son, and then many other sons and daughters that may be having a difficult time, thoughts with them and their families. Also, if anyone on this site knows of any Recruits that need some extra mail please let me know. I would be happy to write if you have their name and address (mail is not accepted that doesn't have a specific name). I am so proud of everyone (and us parents at home too).

Does anyone have any info on the ribbons that we can wear at PIR?
  • Leslie mom of 2 sailors

Look up PIR Navy Graduation ribbons on Pinterest
  • librarianmom

The silver lining is we have been able to be in contact with him and we are in Great Lakes now able to visit hospital. He is on the mend now and we are hoping he returns to his division Monday!
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Hello could someone please tell me what "getting IT'd?" Means. As my son wrote his division was getting that everyday?! Not sure it's a good thing? Haha Thank you for your help.
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Oh and I jst ordered PIR Grad ribbons from a Navy mum on this website. Her website is uniquememorymakers.com
  • SailorsLIMom

I got wonderful ribbons from Unique Memory Makers.  Photo attached.  "Proud Mom", "Proud Dad", and "Proud Bro." Their number is 828-242-2721, and website www.uniquememorymakers.comPIR%20ribbons.JPG

anchors away: IT is having to do push ups or sit ups as a division.  Sort of a group punishment.

    They will be stronger!

  • AnchorsAweigh!

Tessnator, oh dear!! Haha but yes, will make them fitter and stronger. Thank you for replying.

@librarianmom - your SR and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure it wasn't easy to drop everything and get to Great Lakes, but I'm glad you're able to be there and that he's improving. How wonderful if he's able to be released and back to his own division!

  • SailorMomfromNE

How about "dropped" ?? My son says they get dropped...
  • librarianmom

Update...Back at the hospital...got to talk to doctor in person today. He is still improving. No kidney damage. This probably happened due to all of the immunizations he got early on. Less than 1% of people has this happen. He should go back to basic Monday or Tuesday. Today keeping him company...
  • SailorMomfromNE

Ah! That makes sense. Thanks! He said they get dropped & beat a lot. :( was sore in his first letter & worried about the next day's PFT because of it.
  • Math teacher

Librarianmom so sorry to hear your son is in the hospital. My grandson started having seizures July 11 and was transferred by the Navy to Northwestern hospital in Chicago on July 22. At this point diagnosis is unclear. Doctors had wondered about the vaccinations also and have not received a list of those shots from the Navy the last time we asked. Grandson is still at Northwestern. Prayers to your family and son. Different members of our family have been traveling from NC to Chicago to stay with my grandson. We welcome any info and all prayers.
  • SailorsLIMom

Your support and presence will make all the difference.  These boys sound like they're in good medical "hands."  Sending sympathy and support your way.

I was reading through navydep boot camp daily schedule and I don't know what this means: PFA for Olympic Flag. Does anyone know what that is?
  • TessaNator⚓️

It has something to do with score that is required for passing with firing weapons. Hope your son got to call today.
  • NickSydmom

Tessanator, I haven't got a call but still hoping for one. Thanks for the info
  • Proud Parent of 3 Sailors

@ProudMama my son just had PIR on 8/4 and was the Yeoman too. They continue to make us proud!

Hi, I was wondering if anybody had any idea on hotels, I have been searching and came across a couple different towns such as Waukegan, Lake bluff,Libertyville,Mettawa,Gurnee and Vernon hills seem to be what pops up on most sites when you search for Great Lakes Navy station my question is what seems to be the closest that not an unsafe area or not a clean hotel not trying to be snooty but also if my SR wants to relax at the hotel I would like him to be comfortable and not have to worry about a dirty run down hotel, also have heard some SR are told not to be by certain hotels due to the presence of drugs and other "activities" anybody been there lately and have advice or were pleasantly surprised and the online reviews were wrong? Thanks in advance Ladies!

  • KiddGreen1978

Navy Lodge if you can get in, I've stayed at the Hampton Inn Libertyville for my last PIR, it's nice and I'm staying at another one closer to base this time, I know it's a Hampton, but can't deal the city right now.
  • TessaNator⚓️

Navy lodge booked , but always cancellation, just call.  My son's division was 93 now it whittled down to 67...so there should be rooms opening up.  Especially if this is the indication of how all divisions go.

They sat to stay away from Ramada in,,,,its terrible and problems with prostitution

Nicknukemom, that should probably say "PFA for Physical Fitness or Athletics (A) Flag" since the Olympic Flag is awarded after the Captain's Cup, which is the Saturday before PIR. See the info in Honor Recruits, Award Winners and Flags.

  • lemonelephant

TessaNator, the recruits can earn the Pistol Marksmanship ribbon. See the info on that at the bottom of What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).

  • Navydobe

Got my call today!!!! Made my day. He's only gotten a few of my letters. I was using the sandboxx app letter and attach a picture, all he got was the pic!!! They are going back and resending my letters.
  • Navydobe

I also told my son, I had just sent a letter with an extra one included with a star on it for him to give to someone you didn't get mail. He knew someone and would give it to him. I told him I would send more.
  • TAT'sMom

Zmomx3, my son just graduated 8/4, we stayed at Navy Lodge it is very affordable we get military discount and it's less than 2 miles from graduation. Maybe 5 miles to Sarges meet and greet. You make reservations at NL under your SR's name. When you know PIR date go to Sarges meet and greet and RSVP. It's nice they prepare you for graduation with info where to go and what time plus they feed you great food. It's all free to families, some make baskets to be raffled and money goes to Sarge for up coming dinners. Pretty neat. Check it out. Best to you and your SR.
  • librarianmom

math teacher - thank you for the nice note!  I hope that your grandson in on the mend soon and they find out what caused the seizures.  So scary!

  • CA NavyMom

librarianmom...praying for your son. I hope he is able to go back to his division soon.

  • librarianmom

Thanks for all the support the last five days! My SR is being released from hospital today...three days of light duty. That is all I know right now...I am assuming I would be notified if he was switching jobs/divisions or has a different PIR.

  • Phoenixmom

Librarianmom saddened to hear about your son, my prayers are with him for a speedy recovery. And also for you. he is a young strong man and will overcome. Amen!

  • Prattlebrat

Librarianmom, that is good news he is being released for light duty. Hopefully you hear more soon.
  • CA NavyMom

Librarianmom - I'm glad to hear he is being released. Prayers for a quick recovery!

  • Miigwanikwe

Spoke with my son yesterday he said that his division is still at 91
  • TessaNator⚓️

Librarian mom~ Kudos to your SR for getting thru this!

  • SunshineMom

Looking for hotel recommendations.  My daughter's letter arrived today and her PIR date is 9/22.  She's in Ship12/Division 301.  Now onto to finding a place for all of us to stay!  She wrote a personal note in her letter, planning to call this Sunday.

  • Phoenixmom

Sunshine mom not sure what you are looking for but we booked at the Residence Inn and got a 2 bedromm suite with living room kitchen and the sofa also turns into a bed. close to all shopping and dining and also the Naval base. Close to the meet and greet and they have Shuttle service there also. hope this helps.

  • raising3247

Try the Navy Lodge first.  You book it under your recruits name.  If that isn't available then look in Gurnee or Libertyville.  We are staying at La Quinta in Gurnee.

  • soccermom19

My PIR date keeps moving up !!!  It's so exciting!!!
