Hi there! My SR is halfway through! Rumor has it, there may be photos of recruits to view. Where might I find these gems? :)
    Thanks!
  • lemonelephant

Check out https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand. The PAO posts random photos randomly. There is no guarantee that your recruit will be photoed, but it is fun to look at the photos and get an idea of what is happening at the RTC. They do not have pages that follow a particular division.

https://www.facebook.com/ASBPGreatLakes has pics of some of the recruits who give blood while at the RTC. Those donations occur about 2 weeks (10 to 16 days depending on the division) before PIR.

We were just given some info from the RTC regarding some new baggage rules, and some old now reinforced rules  for PIR. Please read them. There will be no exceptions.

Starting 8/18 new baggage rules are going into effect: No big bags, period. No luggage, no gift bags or anything of the sort. You cannot leave stuff at the visitors desk as they no longer will be responsible for your items.

MULTIPLE SEARCHES POSSIBLE: Every person, bag, and vehicle on the base is subject to search. Metal detectors and other security devices are in use on board Recruit Training Command. Expect some delay at the security checkpoints.

    • ITEMS PERMITTED INTO GRADUATION CEREMONY: Small bag/personal item (purse, satchel, etc…), small diaper bag, small camera bag, and personal wheelchair or walker. Strollers and car seats are allowed but discouraged due to space limitations (you may leave them in your car).
    • ITEMS NOT PERMITTED INTO GRADUATION CEREMONY: Large bags, backpacks, luggage, alcohol, illegal drugs, knives or weapons, posters, signs, banners, gift bags of any size, or flowers. Anyone found with alcohol, illegal drugs, knives or weapons will have the item confiscated and will NOT be permitted to enter.

NO WEAPONS! Weapons possession on federal installations is highly regulated and those in violation are subject to arrest and prosecution.

Well I am back. I have a Sailor who just finished A School at Goose Creek (he graduates Friday).

My second son is set to go sometimes in December. :) He is hoping to sign papers next week to leave earlier.

  • lemonelephant

    Welcome back, OR_NavyMom.

  • ncdeb

It's been two days since she arrived at RTC, I knew it would be hard not to hear from her....but it's harder than I thought. Will it be better in a week or so?

  • nmr0712

My husband is in Ship 02 div 946 and man has it been hard! ihave not heard from him and this kills being 3 weeks in! i got a letter but it was the graduation info no letter. this is so hard and i feel like days are going by so slow.. anyone else feel the same or is it just me? i wish i could call him

  • Prattlebrat

Ncdeb My son has been there 4 weeks. I barely got my first letter after he'd been there 3 weeks. Got a phone call Satirday.
  • nmr0712

    Prattlebrat how long are calls?

  • mygod5

Hang in there guys I felt the same way, but once joining the site NFM my mind was put at ease, I watched the videos and just wrote letters until I received my first phone call and letter. My baby girl has been there a month come  08/12 on ship 12 div 279, with 3 more to go. After the call you will feel a little better. Calls are usually 15 mins

  • Prattlebrat

Nmr0712 it seems to depend on how much time they have left after marching practice and other things. I was able to talk for 14 precious minutes. Others have mentioned 5 or having the phone calls taken away because of punishment. My son said he would have gotten longer, but they were practicing marching in step together to the phones. Took longer than expected. So it varies, but much longer than the 30 second call.
  • ncdeb

@Prattlebat, how does he like it or does he?

  • ncdeb

@Mygod5, good advice, yes this site is such a help! I miss my girl so much, she just turned 18 a few weeks ago and it's harder than I thought.

  • nmr0712

Prattlebrat 5 mins is betther then nothing it hopefully i can get at least 15 mins.  this has def been hard. 5 more weeks to go ughh

  • Prattlebrat

Ncdeb he is having a rough time with the extra IT. His division started with over 80 and now has 60. I'm hoping morale was improved with the phone call. I'll hopefully get another letter tomorrow and will know more. He was emotional since it was the first call home. He appreciates letters tons.
  • Prattlebrat

Nmr0712 I agree that 5 minutes is something. It's rough having so little contact. I'm looking for ward to PIR and A school. I'm so grateful for the 14 minutes. Also, his recruiter said i can still get calls anytime so I'm still glued to my phone and keep a pocket charger with me all the time.
  • ncdeb

    What is IT?

  • nmr0712

Prattlebrat yes that is def me i have my phone glued to me and charged so i dont miss any calls possible! i wonder if they can have their phones back in A school

  • Prattlebrat

Ncdeb IT stands for Intensive Training. It's more physical work like push ups etc. they get it as punishment for not working as a team or talking back. My son says there are some guys who talk back. It's also hard because they have to do it in sync. So they hold the push-ups waiting for others. He'll get through it though and be super tough.
  • ncdeb

Oh no, sounds like my daughters worst nightmare. She's anxious about PT as it is. Hopefully those guys will learn there lesson soon and quit causing everyone else to be punished!

  • ncdeb

Does that mean 20 ppl dropped out of bootcamp?

  • Prattlebrat

Ncdeb it those kids got kicked out for various reasons. He has a really young division, so your daughter may not run into the same issues. I hope they learn quickly as well. The PT itself isn't too bad. Look up videos on YouTube. There are several. Just type in Navy boot camp. Also, once you get that form letter send tons of encouraging letters.
  • Prattlebrat

Nmr0712 they get their phones back for school. It's like college life. Though they will be busy there as well. Many of the YouTube videos about Navy boot camp are of kids currently in school telling their perspective.
  • ncdeb

I will Prattlebrat, I started the first letter today. I was worried 20 just quit due to IT! lol.

  • nmr0712

oh really? so i will have to mail it to him to take it back?

  • Trillsmom

    What Division lost 20 today?

  • MontanaNavyMom

    LOST 20 ?!?!?!?!?

  • Trillsmom

She said 20 quit due to IT

  • AnchorsAweigh!

McDermott, now I cld b nice and sugar coat it but .... but I feel the truth will set u free! So, sorry no, u will feel like u have misplaced an arm, you will think of nothing but your baby and cry for no reason at anytime anywhere! But then you will get a letter it will n like receiving the best present you could ever imagine, u will want to kiss everyone even the mailbox! You will read the letters over and over till u can recite them. Then when u didn't think U cld b happier 3 weeks in comes th phone call and u will feel like u have died and gone to heaven cos by then you will have tried to sell any part of your body just to hear your baby's voice but then u hear it and your heart soars and they hang up and u sob with happiness. But then u will not b alone we will b with you as we r going through it or have jst recently. But remember they are in good hands, the best hands, Navy hands. HOOYAH!
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Dont know why my phone spelt McDermott I typed NCDeb ...
  • ellen0502

Hang on! Deep breath everyone. No division lost 20 recruits today. No division lost 20 recruits because of IT. No division lost 20 recruits because they dropped out.

Again, breathe! Every division in every TG will lose recruits along the way.

Divisions can start with anywhere between approx 88 to 100 recruits, and every division in every TG will lose some. Some divisions lose lots some lose fewer.

There are lots of reasons recruits leave a division, or leave boot camp. Recruits may leave a division for medical reasons, academic reasons, physical reasons, some can't cut it and do drop, some are asmo'd and sent to another TG.

This does not happen all at once, and in the case you all are talking about the recruits have been training for approx four weeks.

Once again, breathe! It is normal! Nothing to worry about.

  • Lesliepartyof6

Ellen0502, they have an option to drop out???
  • Phoenixmom

Hi Ellen0502 with what you just mentioned about reasons Recruits leave a division with Graduation only a few weeks away wouldnt this be happening soon or being told now? I am assuming if they didnt pass a certain course or any of the other reasons occuris thiswhere the division change occurs and Graduation is set for another Date?Or  do they continue up until a few days before Graduation then be told they will continue until they pass and then their PIR date changes. just wondering when the calls for this come in. I appreciate your knowledge and the information that is given, I am sure it may seem like the same question coming at you at all times, I'm just praying and hoping and telling myself no news is good news and the same for the calls. Thank You for your time!

  • ellen0502

Lesliepartyof6, I wouldn't really call it an option, and yes, a recruit can drop out, and no they really can't. LOL Generally there is reason they drop. I don't think a recruit can just say "I quit! Could be wrong though.

Phoenixmom, Recruits can be moved out of a division until just a few days before PIR. The "No news is good news" applies even more the last ten days of boot camp.

In general those who are moved out of a division in the last couple weeks of boot camp are moved in to the FIT division because they have failed their final physical fitness test, or the swimming test.

The recruits that are moved to FIT will be able to test and retest, as allowed, until the Wednesday before PIR, and still be able to graduate with their division. They will do BS with whatever division is going through at that time, and move on to PIR. That is why we say don't cancel your reservations yet if you receive that phone call. :)

Those that don't pass their final tests before their original PIR date will continue to test until they pass or have reached the maximum number of tries. Once they pass they will go through BS with the next available divisions for them, and then continue directly to A School. If they don't pass by the specified number of tries they will be separated at that point.

Changes in PIR date (asmo'd) will come before being placed in FIT.

I think I wrote all of that correctly, if I didn't someone will chime in. :)

  • Lesliepartyof6

Ellen0502, Thank you for explaining...i asked because my SRs first letters were sad. The second set seemed a lot better but he was asking me what I thought if he just quit only because I believe he thought the whole DIV would be set back. He said if that happened it would kill his motivation.
So when I read what you said I was like OH NO! My son is doing very well in BC but explained that it's tough to get others on board.(team work) I didn't want that to be an option for him at all. He just wants to graduate on time!! Thank you for all of knowledge!
  • librarianmom

Got the call tonight that my son is being held back and will no longer be graduating September 8th. He said reason was illness and/or injury. This isn't totally unexpected after his hospital stay but he was very upset on the phone. That I only had a minute to calm him down was heartbreaking for me.
  • NickSydmom

Oh librarianmom I am so sorry your son is being set back. He must be very disappointed. On the bright side, he is still there and he will still graduate and be a sailor. I know how bad it must be not being able to help when they are suffering

The Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), will help you with many of the new terms you will come across.

  • lemonelephant

Recruits usually make at least three phone calls from the RTC. The "I'm here!" call soon after arrival is from a cell phone and is scripted and very short. The "I'm still alive!" call in wee 3 or 4 (could be before or after that depending on when the RDC is able to schedule the phone banks) may be short (a few minutes) or long and the recruit may make one or several calls depending on how long the RDC is able to schedule the phone banks. The "I'm a Sailor!" call, which comes two to ten days before PIR, is usually long and the recruit is able to call several people if s/he chooses. The RDC may be able to schedule other calls and the length of those calls depends on how much time the RDC is able to schedule at the phone banks. Calls for information or due to a problem are on the Navy and are often scripted and therefore pretty short. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls for more information.

  • Prattlebrat

Ditto what AnchorsAweigh said. Very much the same feelings here.
  • ncdeb

AnchorsAweigh, no I like the truth cause that's how I'm feeling right now. Like an arm is missing and I keep looking for it, lol. Now is the fourth day and I can't wait for 3 weeks or so for a phone call! I keep looking at my phone for a text out of habit. Thank you for the support and info and you are right. I'd rather her be at Navy boot camp than anywhere else!

  • ncdeb

Prattlebrat, I'm just running the bad scenarios through my mind. Waiting on her to call saying she can't make and blah, blah. Ive watched all the videos and made her watch, I know she can make. I just don't know if she knows it. Hopefully she will learn she can!

  • nmr0712

Is there anyone with a love one in Ship 02 DIV 946?  I've only gotten the graduation date letter and mailing letter. No real letters from him, or call. But i want to say no news is good news =/ just wanted to see if anyone on the same DIV has heard anything from them.

  • Prattlebrat

Nmr0712 I wrote every day until the last couple before the form letter came. Our letters crossed in the mail so he thought we weren't writing. The day after he mailed his first letter my son got 10 letters. Just keep positive and encourage her. It's a new culture and vocabulary to learn besides the physical part. They live for letters just like we do.
  • nmr0712

Prattlebrat I have sent a total of 4 letters so far since we got his letter with his address. I try to wrote one a day! =] Yes i will try to send ad many! i havent gotten one from him but he will sure get alot from me!! =] Does anyone whos spouse is at RTC have children? My 7 year old daughter is having a hard time. She is the biggest daddys girl and is use to doing everything with him. I try to keep her busy and talk to her and explain. She wrote a super cute letter to him which im sure might make him tear a little. Just wanted to see what else i could do to help her.

  • ellen0502

nmr0712, You can make a construction paper chain with one link per day left in boot camp. You can write something on each link, I love you daddy, I'll see daddy soon, or one that has a special outing like today we visit the park, or tonight we eat at Wendys, time to write a letter to Daddy, etc. Each day you tear off a link and read or do what's on the link. The chain gets shorter as graduation gets closer.

  • nmr0712

ellen0502 that is great idea!! thank you!!

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Ladies, Librarianmom I am sorry to hear about the setback, your SR needs time to heal and get strength back, he will make it no doubt about it. you know it is so easy to give up, but I do have to say reading about the Sr"s that are having struggles with passing ,It Makes me so proud to see that they have the determination,  strength and confidence inside  to push themselves to continue on and that right there is something to be proud of. Good Day Ladies, and lots of Love to all the sons/Daughters that are challenging themselves to continue and make a difference.
