Dear Librarianmom, I truly believe in things happen for a reason, even at the time we cannot makes heads or tails of it, I truly believe it was meant to be. But that it always ends up better than before. Your son will do great things, just a little later with a different PIR group that's all. I would have loved to have met you but we always have this wonderful site to catch up on. So head held high and the best of good wishes to your brave son.

Does anybody know what it means when a recruit is assigned to ship's staff? I cannot find any information on this and I would like to know if this is a good or bad thing. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks so much.

  • ProudNavyMom

TheresaH, my son was assigned to ship's staff. He had extra work to do. I didn't get all the details, but my son said he had more opportunity to earn a faster track to the next liberty phase once they are at school. For his group, it made things harder because while he was working, he wasn't practicing for PIR. So at the end of boot camp, he wasn't as prepared as the others. So I think it's both a plus and a minus.

  • CA NavyMom

LibrarianMom...Praying for you and your son!

  • Phoenixmom

from my understanding they are in charge at PIR and they meet and greet the customers, like a helper.

  • 3B'smom

Don't worry nmr0712. We started writing as soon as we received the form letter, but our SR had extra P days. They can't send out letters while they are still in processing. He may have written and just be waiting to drop them in the mail. We received our phone call before the letters. I know it's hard, but hang tight. The letters will come.
  • rhat562

I love my mailman today. Received my first letter from my recruit. I haven't received the form yet but I'll take my recruit's hand writing any day!
  • nmr0712

My 2nd Navy boy just graduated Aug. 4th. My daughter just got called, they having her leave to Basic on Aug. 30th. Her original date was Nov. 28th. I like her leaving now better, because she won't be in Basic during Christmas. But, I'm not ready to go through boot camp again so soon.

ncedb, I left some info on your My Page that may help with locating "the box."

  • paigec

Thank you to all who help contribute to this site and those who offer congratulations. It has truly been the thing that has gotten me through the last 7 weeks. I've learned so much. I find myself checking for alerts so many times a day. Even my husband has gotten in the habit of asking me what everyone is saying each day. I will definitely share anything I learn at PIR and the day following as my sailor heads to her next adventure at A School in Pensacola. I feel so much more prepared (though I know there could be some surprises left too).

  • lovemysailor07

Hi everyone my husband left July 19th and will be graduating September 15th I'm excited and nervous. I heard from him twice last week first call was two minutes the second was ten minutes and yesterday he called because they needed another copy of our info. Can't wait to see him
  • Nukelukesmom

I have a question, ladies. My SR called us tonight for the first time since arriving at GL. He said that he has been told that he will have liberty Friday and Saturday after PIR and fly out for A school at GC on Sunday. I have read on these pages that the flights out are usually on Saturday. Has anyone else had their sailors fly out on Sunday? We would obviously love an extra day with him but need to make hotel arrangements for an extra day if he is not leaving until Sunday.
  • KiddGreen1978

NukeLukesMom: The is the possibility of Sunday. I planned for Saturday, but he actually left on Sunday. The only dabbing have is that his flight had a layover in the Atlanta airport so I was able to get him to come down to the airport lobby and get us passes to come sit and wait with him at his gate.
  • lemonelephant

Nukelukesmom, it happens every now and then for those flying to Pensacola because of the large number of Sailors who fly there. We have been hearing of recruits who have "A" School or training in other locations being told that they will fly out on Sunday, but so far only some who have flown to Pensacola have flown on Sunday--like KiddGreen1978's Sailor who has an AE contract. Your recruit will not have his flight details until very close to PIR; some don't have them until the morning of PIR. Check in the Nuke group and see if anyone has had a Sailor fly out on Sunday that I am not aware of.

  • lemonelephant

    Thank you ShawnMom.

Hello Everyone I’m new here my Son has been at BC for almost 4 weeks now. I’m missing him but I’m thankful that he is half way through. He will graduate on September 15th. I’m also thankful for this page and the encouragement that everyone provides. Best wishes to each of your Recruits.
  • lemonelephant

(((((Jenn))))) that's a cyber hug for you from one Navy Mom to another.

  • Taz

Thank u I need all the hugs I can get still can not sleep dam news got me all work up.
  • AnchorsAweigh!

RJNavymom, I feel the same. we are in our 5th week and PIR cldnt come soon enough. But the letter and phonecsll helped put my mind at rest. This website has helped tremendously. Willy forever thankful xx. But know my son is in good hands, Navy hands, the best hands.
  • ncdeb

@Nik'sMom, I wonder if they are in same division? I got the letter Saturday and my girl is in 947 Div.

  • nova

Has anyone heard of any Diivison. being set back, with PIR of 9/817

  • Anti M

Divisions are often threatened with being set back, but honestly, I have never heard of it actually happening.  Individual sailors, yes, that can happen, but a whole division?  That would be new.

  • librarianmom

Struggling here...I was doing so well when my son left for Boot Camp.  No news was good news.  He got through his first tests no problems.  First inspection passed.  First letters were positive as was his three week phone call.  But then he got sick and was sent to hospital and now he is in limbo.  He made the call that he won't be graduating on time, which we totally expected.  He was supposed to get to call home yesterday but then he couldn't.  I really needed to hear his voice and make sure he is doing OK with the delay.  I really need to know what is going on with him and it takes days to get letters.  I am supposed to get one today, but I think it was written before he made his phone call.  I have no idea if the encouraging letters I sent last week have been forwarded to him...they were written before I knew exactly where he was and what his address is.  Sigh...I will feel so much better once I know his fate.

  • Phoenixmom

Hi LibrarianMom I'm so sorry about the setbacks, I'm totally with you about the not knowing, I wish I knew about my son's division as to where they are and how they are doing. I'm sure though that you will be hearing from him soon, do you think maybe he is just trying to catch up on where he left off, that might be it and as to why you havent heard anything, please dont stress I'm sure your son is fine and just working to be on track since the setback of his illnes. I know it is easier said then done, but I'm sure he is in good hands.

  • Proud Parent of 3 Sailors

Just found out that my daughter is leaving 8/23. Oh my Goodness. She was originally scheduled for 11/28. Guess we got some stuff to take care of. Not sure if mom is ready for the BC ride again so soon. #2 just graduated 8/4.

  • jenf3

Proud Parent of 3 Sailors.....I know the feeling.  My SR was supposed to leave in Dec. That got moved to 9/26. Fast forward-we received a call on 8/8 that he needed to be in GL on 8/10. Needless to say, that time went by way too fast!!  I am counting the minutes until I get his form letter.  This was tougher than I ever expected.  Hugs to you and your Navy family!

  • Proud Parent of 3 Sailors

jenf3 I am glad I am not the only one going through this. I don't think anyone knows how tough it is when your kiddos decided to serve their country. My best friend's son is going away to college, a five hour drive and she is totally upset about it. I understand, but I'm thinking you can talk to him, go see him. Us military mamas don't have that luxury. Just feeling sorry for myself. Miss my kids. Thanks for the ear.

  • jenf3

Proud Parent of 3 Sailors....no worries.  Glad I found this site. I thought I was ready; my husband is a Navy veteran and I was a military wife for quite a few years. But watching my kid leave was not something I was prepared for.  I do have a 20 yo in college 3 hours away. Yes, that is easier. I can see him any time.  I think it just takes time.

  • CA NavyMom

Proud Parent of 3 Sailors...I understand how you feel.  I am new to this and miss my daughter so much.  The weirdest things make me cry (like shopping at the grocery store...my daughter loves food!). I don't know how you're holding up with 3 kids in the Navy.  Sending hugs and prayers are you prepare for her to leave.

  • Sunflower

You can buy the dvds after the PIR. My first son bought his pictures. I didn't even know they could do that. They do get paid during BC. They can join the Navy Credit Union. They have to pay for all their uniforms also.I think the formal photos can cost around 200 depending what your SR buys.

  • Attygirl123

I am going to just have my boys order what I want and pay the extra cost of mailing them to my home so we don't have to waste precious, limited time after PIR in those hella long lines. I will just reimburse them by transferring $ into their Navy Fed accounts later. Lord (and Uncle Sam) willing, I will have two sailors in November...and I will have to share oxygen with their father's mistress/new wife...so we have enough to worry about without adding that into the mix.
  • Sunflower

I have to admit the line to order the dvd was long. My son had already gotten his photos and went back to his ship to get them. I am going to have my second son order the dvd when he orders his photo package if he can do that.
