    Hi
just received the info on PIR date. I know I've seen recommendations for hotels but can't find it now , any suggestions? I would like to be near Graduation area
  • BoosTT

We got good news today! My nephew left for BC on 8/9 and his form letter and address came in the mail today. It feels better to have an address where we can at least let him know how much we love him and how proud of the man he is becoming. We were expecting it to take longer.
  • TessaNator⚓️

GREAT MORAL BOOSTER....I saw a post on here from someone who suggested we put xtra letters in our kids envelope for others whom are getting little or no mail.  I added a short one page inspirational letter for a boost for a lonesome/sad SR.  There are some whom don't have much support on the outside, so its a novel idea to send xtra letters.  Hope my son gives to someone in need.  If we all did this just twice a week, it would help a kid get thru this challenging time.  Please send a letter to anonymous SR today!

  • Jocelynn

What I did was, buy a box of inspirational cards. Every time I send my son a letter, I send a couple of cards.

WaitingforJustin (and others), see the info on photos in Division T-Shirts, Graduation Photos, The Keel, and DVD of PIR. It should answer your questions.

nukemom, There is no longer a list as of Oct 6th. Everyone will be issued a ticket, and that ticket will have their name on it. No ticket no entry, not even on to the base. This starts with the Oct 6th PIR group. Those with PIR dates prior will still have their names on a list.

  • ellen0502

    Trying to avoid confusion here.

If you have a PIR date prior to Oct 6th, everything remains the same. The changes do not impact your attending PIR.

If you have a PIR date of Oct 6th, or after, the new policies, changes, and rules will be in place.

TessaNator...I did this, when my son got his first longer call, I had already had an extra letter in the way, he did know someone that hadn't gotten mail!! So happy I could help raise the spirit of a future sailor! Even my coworker sent one!
  • Proudmom17

My son just left for boot camp yesterday 8/14/17!
  • jacquiesboys

So, I am confused. The Chapel is no longer used now for extra guests, or just after Oct. 6th.?

  • soccermom19

Cj, thanks for posting that.  I can't find my original form letter right now and I was starting to panic.  There isn't anything additional in that form letter that I need come August 25th is there? OK, do I need to start panicking again??

  • soccermom19

Need advice:  I think I read somewhere during these weeks that some moms recommended bringing a cushion with a back to PIR because the bleachers are uncomfortable for the extended time we need to be there.  So is that allowed on the base or if we bring it, then it's going to be confiscated?

    Anyone know?

  • raising3247

Soccermom- I saw that somewhere too. I have a stadium seat from when my son played soccer and boy does it save your back! I want to bring it but I don't want to have it taken away.
  • NavyCousinThisTime

This specifically for friends who had sailors in past division 218.  Update on our sailor who had seizures after battlestations during the capping ceremony. His grandmother, Math Teacher gave me this update to share with you: pasting here:

He continues to be in the hospital at Northwestern. Now is diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis and autoimmune epilepsy. He will start chemo today after completing various other treatments.  We thank all of you caring folks for your thoughts and prayers. he doesn't have cancer, but I think the chemo will help the prob. he has.

Please private message me for more info. thank you!

  • lemonelephant

    Thanks for the update, NavyCousinThisTime.

  • lemonelephant

soccermom19, there are some restrictions about what can be taken into the Visitors Center and the Drill Hall for PIR, but so far a stadium seat is not on the list of prohibited items, so it should be fine.

  • AnchorsAweigh!

Yay! Proudmom17, now his journey begins so feel happy for him as he is in the best hands, Navy hands and this website will help you through the emotional times. They answer every question u will ever have and none are silly every question is important. So welcome!
  • flatbranchangus

My son left for boot camp yesterday....he asked me to look up the retirement or investment options that they were given to chooae from? However he had to get off phone and he didnt tell me any names of plans? New to this and have no clue what to research for him?
  • librarianmom

Last two Wednesday's have brought bad news (hospital stay, delay in graduating)...hoping for good news this Wednesday (back in training) or no news!

  • ellen0502

flatbranchangus, Start with TSP (Thrift Savings Plan). I am only guessing, but that is probably the one he got information on.

  • Counting Fridays

They don't mention umbrellas as forbidden, although we've been to various venues that deny them. Does anyone know?

  • ncdeb

Librarianmom, thinking of you, hang in there.

  • RJNavyMom

Hang In there Librarianmom, Praying for good news for you and your Son. Stay Strong!

  • lemonelephant

Counting Fridays, umbrellas are permitted when it is raining. Choose a small umbrella with a wrist band so that you can keep track of it in the bleachers if one is needed on the day of PIR.

  • jacquiesboys

Well got a good letter from my son yesterday. Said last phone call could have been an hour long, but was limited to 25 minutes because some in his division can't get the marching down. Hope they have got it together and we get a longer call this weekend. He said, keep your phone on you Mom, I will be calling again on Saturday! Did anyone hear about "hell week", he mentioned it to a friend in his letter, but nothing in our letter???? Making my list of questions to ask when he calls! Have a good Friday everyone!

  • Prattlebrat

I got a letter too. So exciting to hear how he is doing. Jacquiesboys my son said "hell week" is where they do tons of tests. Some written, some physical. They get up every morning at 0400. It would be rough. If they don't pass they can pointy get asmoed.
  • Zoey

Thanks everybody I cancelled the Days Inn after reading reviews and have now reserved Holiday Inn Express for September 28 and 29th.  They give a government rate of 109.00 per night.  Thanks!

  • librarianmom

Thanks so much for all the kind words and support the last few weeks. My SR was finally released back into action last night! He will now have PIR 9/15! Only a week later than we planned! He is switching gears but is at peace. It was so good to hear his voice this morning...ready to move forward!
  • Attygirl123

Wonderful news, librarianmom! So happy and hopeful for your SR. He stood his ground with a big shark and kept swimming.
  • Phoenixmom

Librarianmom that is such awesome news! great to hear!

  • KiddGreen1978

Librarianmom: That is great news! Extremely happy for all the moms who have made it this far with strength and grace. This is a hard road for our families, but if it was easy, everyone could do it. Stay strong and I'm glad your SR is back on his way!
  • NickSydmom

Librarianmom, I'm so happy for your son. Really good news
  • Jocelynn

I am so glad to hear everyone has good news today. God is great! Keep up all the faithful praying.

  • Proudmom2017

Librarianmon, So happy for your SR!
  • nova

How does a family find out if their SR, PIR date has been changed                       /

  • AZ2OH2IL2UT

nova- You should receive a phone call from your recruit.

  • ellen0502

Nova, Your recruit is basically required to call you if there is a delay in training. This includes change in PIR date, moved to FIT etc.

If you haven't heard from your recruit that they are being moved, or their PIR date has changed all should be well. No new is good news!

  • Zoey

Do all recruits have to wait until the first 3 weeks of basic training are done before they can write letters and call?

  • lemonelephant

Zoey, most have holiday routine on the second Sunday that they are there. Some will not have it until the third Sunday if they arrived at the end of the week and were held over for others to arrive to fill the division. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.
