Yorkshirelass- My call came at 11:14pm. I remember the time distinctly. I was pleasantly surprised because I had heard other stories of some recruits not call until 1 o 2 in the morning. Glad you got your call. It's short and sweet but its something. This being completely out of touch is for the birds as my grandmother would have said. It's just really hard when we are used to instant contact at all times. We are spoiled. This Navy Mom stuff sure is an exercise in patience.

  • yorkshirelass

My son called around 11 to say he had arrived, short and sweet but greatly appreciated.I do see already that being a Mavy Mother makes you appreciate the little things you used to take for granted.I also see what a help this group is
  • Green2Blue

NNLori-Partyofseven-Are you both in the same PIR group?  How awesome is that!

I am hoping my form letter arrives today.  I seem to be one day behind partyofseven when things arrive.

yorkshirelass-Giving up the communication has been the hardest part.  I used to hear the sound of his car coming home, and everytime it sounds like his car now, I have to catch myself. I keep thinking for a moment that he just got home.  It gets a little easier, but I still shed a few tears each day.  Just keep reminding yourself that they really wanted this and they are going to have some great experiences that most will never have...in a good way!

So we send the Guest Security Access List letter directly back to our recruit---assuming nothing else should be added to the envelope? And State ID is drivers license number?
  • partyofseven

    Good Morning Ladies,

So we send that Guest Security List letter back? Do we fill out the dl's number and DOB?

    Thanks ladies.

  • partyofseven

Or do we fill out everything on there?

  • NNLori

I filled in all the information that I could. Address, e-mails, date of birth and state ID which I used our license numbers. I left it blank for my daughter who is 14. I figure they should know she doesn't have a license. I'll just make sure I bring her ss# with her when we go to PIR. I'll probably bring a copy of her birth certificate also just to be safe.

  • Chipmunk

NNLori - depending on your state you may get a state ID for your daughter at 14. Since you have to turn all of this information in ahead of time, you may only need the SSN, but you might need an original birth certificate, and the state ID will be a lot easier to deal with at the airport, since yours will fly out. - Our PIR was before the ticket deal, but I got a state ID for my youngest who is also 14 and then I have a duplicate Birth certificate so took one of those with us as well. - No issues at airport with the state ID.

Ana_a_proud_navymom - http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/index.html - Was my go to site since I didn't know about this. - check out the "family" section. But the live stream is at: http://navylive.dodlive.mil/    once the live stream is over, they do convert it to an online video but it may not be posted right away, but you can still find it by going to the above link. - Sorry if lemonelephant already replied, I forget to hit the send!

  • NNLori

I didn't put any number on the form for her when we sent it in. Do you think that will be a problem. I can give him her ss# when he calls if he needs that.
  • ChildofGod66

I never received a guest security access form to fill out and send back. Is this something new? What's the PIR date for those that received these form letters?
  • partyofseven

    Hi ChildofGod66,

    My PIR date is 10/20.
  • ChildofGod66

    Hi there,
Thanks for responding so quickly, my son's PIR is 9/15th so I'm hoping this is a new addition. We never received anything to fill out and send back. Our date is just around the corner, hence my panic at seeing the posts on this.
  • Chipmunk

ChildofGod66- the tickets are for those with PIR after Sept, I think. Your gate pass is ready for access - http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.html - You have to  have the passcode that was in your form letter. Print that out and fill it in. I had a couple of extra copies and a blank one - I put it in the car a few days before we left, along with our insurance and registration card. Everyone on the access list that was in your form letter has to have the proper ID.

  • Chipmunk

NNLori - check with your recruit when they call. And be sure you are a member of your PIR group on this site as well.

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Ladies, yes all you will need is gate pass that is if you atre driving to Graduation, on your form should be the names of the person/persons that are able to get on the grounds, if you name isnt on there then the hotels hold the ceremony there in there conferance rooms. as of Oct. 6th they will issue tickets and those need to be pick up. when picking up your Sailor after they dont ask for the passcode just make sure everyone has seat belts on and Id's. I was stressing the whole time about Graduation and actually it is really simple. if driving onto the base for graduation gates open at 6:30 so be in line really early because then there is a huge line. Congrats to you your Sailor. was there just this past weekend. also let the Hotel know you have a Graduate from Boot Camp and they decorate the Hotel door. hope this helps. Have a Great Day!

  • Phoenixmom

Also after you receive the Box a week later you should of received the form letter, if you havent please speak with your SR so maybe he can resend or give you info on how to retrieve. that letter will have the gate passcode and the persons able to attend. if your name isnt on there then those cannot be on grounds.

  • Phoenixmom

when you print out the gate pass you will either type or write the info in so know the ship and division and the code.

  • Phoenixmom

For those that will be taking your SR"S car he will not be priveledge to drive it just yet. I had met a couple who took their Sons car and had to leave it at a family home until he was able to get it and drive it on base so please check about that. They seem to be changing alot of the rules. dont want to give any false info but you can ask Ellon0502 or LemonElephant they have alot of the answers.

  • ChildofGod66

Thank you ladies!! Phew...I thought we missed something. I do have my ID's and gate pass printed and ready to go.
Thanks for helping me through that little crisis.
Now I can go back to praying the 9/15 PIR group through this last phase!
    Blessings to all!
  • Phoenixmom

If you ladies havent signed up to the PIR date of your SR please do, so much more info there and you can sign up for the meet and greet also. Sarge is his name who does the meet and greet and he has so much info also. the 15th is around the corner your SR will be doing Battlestations soon this is the last and final test they need to pass and it is a 12 hour ordeal. you can see the video on youtube called Batllestation 21 and see how intense this is. after that you will recieve a I'm a sailor call. not all pass but they get another chance to retake. so much these SR"S have to do.

Trying to cancel health insurance for my Son with my Employer, I sent a copy of his contract with ship date but they wont cancel it, they told me that per IRS requirements I must have something from Tricare with an effective date of insurance, anyone got  any ideas on how to get this?

  • Phoenixmom

yorkshirelass in the process of doing the same, made sure my son didnt need my insurance and eye, dental, he said MOM I have Government Ins. LOL. he just graduated. I'm sure all states are different but I will let you know what my employer states to me.

  • ellen0502

My recommendatio is to keep your recruits health insurance active until they have graduated. If something happens and your recruit is sent home it may be difficult to get them back on a policy.

  • yorkshirelass

    Good idea ellen0502,thanks phoenixmom

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Ellen0502 was going to ask you the same, I did take my sons Insurance card dental and eye vision to him this past weekend because he graduated. He let me know that he did not need it any longer because he has insurance thru the military. now I can continue having him on my Insurance until my open enrollment comes around then take him off, but how do we get Tricare to send us something stating he is insured thru military. would like to have for my records and aslo to show my employer that he is covered.

  • Phoenixmom

Ellen0502 another question if I may, now if I decide to keep my sons insurance covered by the state of az, would he be able to use his Insurance thru military and mine just in case the military doesnt cover all. which I dont know what his insurance covers or doesnt cover but can he have two insurances? would I be able to get any info as to his insurance what it covers or not. He is 18 barely beginning his life and I know he doesnt know anything about Insurance just yet because you know us Mothers do all that for our children even spouses. so any info would be great. Thank You

  • TrueBlue

Party of7. My SR arrived at BC on 8/10. 29 days until PIR! Hooyah!
  • musicteachermom

I'm new to this.  What does SR stand for?

  • Phoenixmom

SR means Seaman Recruit when they first get there they are all Seaman. some raise up to Petty officers.

  • Phoenixmom

Thank you for that, for sure not wanting to confuse anyone. My son went in as a E-3 as and his title was Fireman. an E-3 is the highest you can be or come out to be in Boot Camp. Sorry if I confused anyone.

  • ellen0502

Phoenixmom,  You won't need a second insurance for your son once he is out of boot camp. Their insurance coverage is very good.

You don't really need a second insurance, except as a just in case until he graduates.

  • Phoenixmom

Thank You Ellen0502. my son did graduate this past friday Sept. 1. he did mention he wasnt going to need it, but Im debating if I should hold onto it until my new enrollment date comes around to take him off. now is there any way that I can get a copy of his enrollment to show he is actually covered or will he need to get that himself? I just wanted a copy for proof and my records in case my employer may need that, but from my understanding my employer mentioned that if I wanted to drop him now they would need something from Tricare if I wait for open enrollment I can just take him off.

  • Phoenixmom

Have a Good Night All, it was nice chatting with everyone and thank you Ellen0502 for the Info you have given.

  • ellen0502

Sorry Phoenxmom, I tend to speak in general so much I just wasn't paying attention and should have realized your son had graduated.

I suppose the question would be is it costing you additional money to keep him on your health plan until the open enrollment? You personally can't get a copy of anything regarding his health insurance, but he can send you something.

Tell you employer the change is a military change. Hand them a pic of your son in uniform, and ask if that is proof enough. LOL

  • Kraftinkat

My so leaves for bootcamp tomorrow and I have a million feelings going on. I probably won't sleep at all.
  • Green2Blue

I know exactly how you feel Kaftinkat.  It took me a while to be able to sleep.  There are so many things going on in your head and you can't help but think about them when you go to sleep at night.  Your so will do great!  You will get used to it...just not tonight!  Enjoy those precious moments tomorrow.  Think good thoughts!

  • Kraftinkat

Thsnks green2blue! I feel like I haven't slept for a week. This board is a wealth of information and reinforcement.
  • Green2Blue

We get it!  These ladies really have helped me, too.  It helps to know there are others who understand!

  • Kraftinkat

Are there any SR leaving from Dallas MEPS tomorrow

  • nani

So since the PIR for oct/27/17 doesn't have any new information....does that mean this TG isn't full yet? Will this whole group have extra processing days? Do they have to wait for the full training group to begin....or just for their division?

  • ellen0502

It just means the RTC hasn't posted the divisions yet to their web page.

It is possible that all the divisions in the TG didn't fill quickly, but the divisions that were full would have continued on. The TG does not need to be complete (full) for the first divisions to start training.

  • nani

    Ok thanks for the info!

One more question. Are there any other wives/moms/girlfriends on this site from Utah??

  • Chipmunk

Kraftinkat- Hope you slept well last night. Are you able to go to MEPS to be with your recruit? Remind him that he may call you from the airport. You can have a few more chats. And at least you know when he gets to GL, that call will be scripted. I had no idea, so thought we had a recording, and I thought mine thought he had gotten the voice mail, so I kept saying I love you over and over and didn't hear half of what was said.

    Hugs, Navy sister.

  • MonarchMom98

Help, I am really new here. my son leaves for MEPS next Monday and BC on Tuesday. Can someone, if they know, please answer a couple question. I'm trying to get the lingo so what does TC mean?

Also, we don't live far from BC and I have 3 other kids. I know the limit is 3-4 guests at PIR (I think that's what it's called, eaks, graduation). Does anyone know if there is any other way to get the other child or children added to the guest list? can another recruit add them if they don't have anyone coming? My kids are just going to be heart broken if not.

  • lemonelephant

nani, I see that you found the Utah group, but it is not very active.

  • lemonelephant

The Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), will help you with many of the new terms you will come across.

  • lemonelephant

MonarchMom, TG is Training Group; the group of all the recruits in all of the divisions who will have PIR on the same date.

No, there is a limit of 3 or 4 guests depending on the size of the TG. NO, recruits cannot put names on the list for another recruit because that would get both of them in trouble since that would be an OPSEC issue. Also, now there is a form to be filled out (you will get it with The Form Letter) and there are tickets that have to be picked up prior to PIR. They will be able to watch the Livestream. Since your then Sailor will be staying in GL, they will be able to spend time with him while he is on Liberty that weekend.

  • MonarchMom98

Doh, yes I meant TG, my mind is so rattled these last couple days, my appologies and THANK you all so much for responding. as far as guest at PIR, that's kind of what I thought so I think it will be just me and my husband and the siblings will have two watch it via the live stream. You all are so great! thank you so much!!!

Oh and my other kids are 10, 10 (twins) and 6.
