Morning ladies! Ok, so I'm trying to get over the disappointment of not getting the call over the weekend. I was under the impression that they usually call on the weekends so does that mean they won't call during the week? Does anyone know if calls ever come during the week? And I mean the real call, not a call in need of information or a courtesy call to make sure their family is alright during the hurricane. I'm talking the 30 minute lets find how your doing call!!! Or should I just get that out of my head until next weekend?

  • NNLori

On the up side I did figure out how to forward my house phone to my cell phone so I don't miss any calls. :)

  • pkiwi70

NNLori, I got my first call at 3 weeks on a Sunday. Then the next call should be week 6 which us this Sunday. Then again between weeks 7 and 8. The time they get depends on the RDC. Mine was 30 minutes long while others were only a few minutes. It all depends on DIV and if the RDCs had any issues with DIV-seeing if one or two recruits do something or don't listen it effects the whole group
  • SCSunshine777

NNLori I never got a call on the weekday except for when it was the first, "I've arrived safely" call. It will be about the 3rd week. One call I got was on a Sat. and one was on a Sun..I don't know if the norm is either day. Then the last call was a weekday due to that was when she had went through Battlestations to say she passed. My calls were never 30 minutes. It could be because she was calling other family members besides me. Her dad and are divorced. Another time I do know she wanted to call her boyfriend right before her first call because he was leaving for Marine boot camp and she wouldn't get to talk to him anymore till he does his graduation.
  • NNLori

Thank you pkiwi70 and SCsunshine777- Yea, I understand all calls need to be earned so when and how long will vary depending on the DIV and RDC. Just trying to get an idea of the norm. I'm guessing I won't get a call until next weekend then. That will be the end of his 3 weeks going into 4. With a little luck maybe I'll get a letter this week. I hope!! Thanks again for sharing your experiences, it does help give us all an idea of what to expect.

  • pkiwi70

NNLori the letters were tough as my sons division have some chatty cathy's so they list their writing ability. I just got 2 letters this past Friday and he is starting week 5 this week.
  • NNLori

pkiwi70-- are those the first letters you have received from him?

  • pkiwi70

NNLori yes there were 2 in there. He also wrote a letter to his work and his ROTC instructors.
  • NNLori

    pkiwi70 - that's a long time to wait. :(

  • JamieA

I feel like I'm done being patient T_T

Good Morning Ladies, usually calls come from different area codes because they may be using someones phone, usually they need a calling card, and because they are so busy it really depends on when they can call, some have watch so when it is there Div. turn to make calls some miss that opportunity. You have to know alot of goofing off goes on in the Div."s and the whole Div. will be reprimanded for it so calls are taken away. so Hang tight! more letters may be recieved than calls, I know that was the case for me, and because of lack of sleep I got a few short lines. if your SR  doesnt have a calling card you are allowed to send them one along with stamps. if it is a area code you dont know I would answer because it may be your SR. Good Luck to all you Moms and your SR'S. right now they are working really hard to pass FIT and swimming. and getting their records straight. as for shot records the Recruiter they had prior to leaving for BC had records of all that so no they do not need to take with them. basically ID, Social security, bank statement if they had an account opened already. but if for some reason their recruiter didnt get all the info they needed then maybe? Good Day Ladies!

  • NNLori

Thanks you ShawnMom!! Appreciate the info!
  • NNLori

    Thank you Phoenixmom!
  • Phoenixmom

Ladies if you all would like to know about ships and divisions  there is a site on here where you can look it up and it explains alot. Ship/Division--How it Works 800 and 900 Divisions it would give you insight to most things.

  • Mattsmomma

I could not have had a better weekend - went home to two letters from my son (one handwritten one, and one to return a couple of the fill-in-the-blank letters I sent him).  Then Saturday morning, I was starting my day and got my long-awaited first real phone call.  He really liked the questionnaire style letters he could complete and send home, and I had sent him a sheet of riddles that he and his bunkmate and neighbors had fun trying to figure out.  I sent the answers a week later, and he hadn't received them yet, but he was looking forward to seeing how many they got right.  He sounded good - relaxed - and for 30 wonderful minutes, he filled me in on everything they had been doing and had a few funny little stories to share. It was such a relief to hear his voice, and I am happy to report that I am far less of a wreck than I have been for the past month.

  • Mattsmomma

His call came from an 847 number and said Waukegan, IL on my caller ID

  • NNLori

Mattsmomma that's wonderful!! I think that is what we are all feeling. We just need that contact to put our minds at ease. I'm very happy for you! I am so looking forward to my turn. Trying my best to be patient!!
  • Lisarenee

Mattsmomma....what was the fill in the blank letter?
  • mom of two

That is an awesome idea!!!!!!!  I may steal that from you!!! Lol.  Keeps them interacting with you and gives them something to work towards.  My call was along the same lines.  Felt wonderful just to hear his voice.  Such a relief almost, just hearing it!!!!

  • Mattsmomma

It was just a couple of letters I typed up from him to me so I could get the answers to all of my questions without spending whole letter asking them and having him have to write the answers all back to me.  It had spots to fill in the blanks (my favorite meal here so far has been....), multiple choice with some funny options, etc.  I asked about things he might want me to send him like stamps, articles, news about his sisters, pictures of the dog, etc., along with what he might like to eat or do during PIR weekend. I also ask about the week/ training day, the funniest thing that happened so far, how the tests are going, etc.  I send one per week so that I get a handwritten letter and a fill-in-the-blank letter back.

  • partyofseven

    Hey Ladies,
I found my questionaires in the paragraph when it talks about the form letter. There's a couple that u can print up if u want. Thats all we can do is wait for our turn. :) It was great to hear about your letters and calls ladies. Thanks for sharing. Higs.
  • Mattsmomma

For the moms who are just starting out on this rollercoaster, it actually does get a little easier once the letters start coming in and you get to hear their voices.  I didn't think it would - believe me, I was an absolute WRECK wondering and worrying, and I was pretty sure no one else could ever miss their child as much as I was missing mine.  I still tear up on a regular basis, not going to lie, but knowing he is on a great path and having all of the moms on here for support makes it a bit easier.

  • partyofseven

It was suppose to say hugs!!
Mattsmomma- so true. That is me to. I love that we have all this support and u ladies are great. :)
  • partyofseven

    Thanks Phoenixmom.
  • Phoenixmom

You are welcome Partyofseven. Do you Ladies know what your SR'S rate (Job) is going to be and if they are staying in Great Lakes for schooling? Do many of you have Sons/Daughters that will be graduating in Sept. or Oct.? Join your PIR Group and then soon they will be listing your Sons/Daughters ship and Div. and you will be able to get with others that are in your SR'S div. there is a whole lot more to come info that is. and Training. Hang tight Ladies, these three weeks are just a beggining. Have a good evening, and wishing you all calls and letters!

  • JennBNavyMom

I just left the recruiter's office because the gym sent my son a bill even though we cancelled his membership. His recruit wrote me a note to give them. Anyway being in there made me feel a bit better. They reminded me no news is good news right now. But MAN I'm dying to hear his voice.
  • Phoenixmom

JennBNavyMom that will always be said I heard it a million times no news is good news and you know what it is exactly that, I worried and worried and finally figured that if there is something to know he/she will call. And as I was told all you mothers know more of what is to be expected from them than they do, and that is from all the info that you can find on what is expected in their training, and what trainings such as the gas chamber, putting out fires learning to use firearms and then BST-21. you can look up all those and find what they do and Ladies if you get a chance look on youtube they have a video on BST-21 it will give insight on what the final test is to pass and it is a 12 hour ordeal some may be up for 24 to 48 hrs straight and they cannot fall asleep or they fail. so they still have alot to do, and by that time they will be counting down the days till this is over! And believe me they are counting! Good Luck to all your SR's some may feel down but lift them up moms and give them the courage determination and focus talk they really need to hear that.Training comes easy for some but not for all, some may struggle but that is ok. I had to clear my Sailors mind of negativity at times but it was missing home and why he chose to join, I had to remind him of his purpose and to know there is a purpose behind what he chose to do.So if you get those calls pray with them over the phone, they need another strong person behind them to give them the strength to continue on and to help them to focus, and have the determination and courage. Amen Ladies! Have a great evening!

  • Eidlhe

NNLori - no news is good news!!!  =D   Hang in there.

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Ladies, Happy Tuesday! hoping all is well with you and your SR'S.

  • Mamabear

My daughter left on 9/6. Am wondering if graduation will be on 11/3? Haven't even received her box yet.
  • Blue Mom

Mama bear, Nov 3rd sounds right, of course it could be different depending on how things go, but I would say that's a good guess. The form letter will confirm her graduation date for you. Hopefully you will receive that in the next week. Hang in there!
  • CAB

Good Morning Phoenixmom.. Thank you again for all you advice and support
  • Phoenixmom

Thank You CAB, believe me I was there not to long ago feeling the feelings all you Ladies (Moms) are at this moment. But at the end you all will be standing Proud right next to your Sailor! HOOYAH!

  • Phoenixmom

LisaC1638 its okay to cry, when I recieved my sons Box I had just recieved his Graduation pictures at the same time, I had to sit, it took me by surprise and let me tell you I was balling my eyes, my husband called and I was just crying trying to tell him I recieved his box his pictures, I was a mess.  so know we Mothers go thru the same emotions. and it is okay to let it out! Have a good day and I will be thinking of you.

  • Mattsmomma

Its definitely okay to cry when you hit the milestones (or every day if it relives some of the stress of missing your recruits).  Heck, I cry when I read posts from all of you when you get your boxes, I cry when you get your letters, I cry when you get the phone calls...  Don't even get me started on those first few days!  They should send a care package in the box for Navy moms that includes tissues and our adult beverage of choice.

  • ellen0502

Do be aware ladies, your recruits can also be put in the TG the week before you expect it to be. It happens often!

  • Jen

    TG?
  • Phoenixmom

Mattsmomma with you on that all the way, and I like the care package for Navy moms! LOL! good one!

  • Phoenixmom

TG stands for Training Group (the group of Recruits that graduate on the same day). TG 01 is the training group that begins training the first week of October when the Navy fiscal year begins, meaning that most of the recruits in TG 01 arrive the last week of September. The smallest TG I've seen had 4 Divisions (11/23/2011) and the largest TG I've seen had 15 divisions (11/30/2012, 02/01/2013, and 02/05/2016), but the Drill Hall was built to accommodate up to 16 divisions. There could potentially be 52 TG's in a year since there are 52 weeks in a calendar year, but the RTC skips about 4 weeks each year. When a week is skipped, the next TG number is advanced to catch up with the week of the fiscal year either immediately or at some point soon after that so that there are times when consecutive TG's do not have consecutive numbers.
