Anyone from Central Fl, found a I found a phone card at Walgreens, sell them in $10,$20 and $30.Its activated at register when you buy it.I have it already to send when I get the form letter with address, I've already got 2 letters written before I get this address, how silly am I!
  • partyofseven

    Congratulations librayrianmom. Awesome.
  • Tessie

    Congratulations, librarianmom!!
  • NNLori

Yorkshirelass- I don't think it's silly. I had at least 3 letters written before I go the address!!
  • NavyMomKim2

Yorkshirelass- not silly at all. I kept writing each day while he was gone as I had time and it helped me get through the days till I got his address. Keep writing away ;-)

  • Mamabear

I've written my daughter letters while I'm waiting. I have also sent her emails and texts telling her I love her and encouraging her. She may not get them right away but soon she will.
  • Kraftinkat

I write a little every day to my son so when I do get his address I have something to send him right away. I want to do the questionnaire thing I saw one mom talk about. I even text message my son I know he doesn't have his phone but it makes me feel like Im talking to him.
  • nani

I wrote a letter per day and sent them all when I got the form letter!

  • travelmom

Hi All - My son shipped out 9/5, and I got my letter today! So excited with PIR date of 3 Nov.

  • nani

Those of you that have been doing this for awhile.....how long did it usually take to get your first real letter after your recruit left? I'm trying to figure out if I should be hopeful for one or not :) He left 8/29 so It's been two weeks. Starting 3rd week.

  • NNLori

My son flew out 3 weeks ago today. Still no personal letter. I'm hopeful I will get one this week!!
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Congrats Librianmom, know it's been a tough couple of months for your son and you. So I am happy to hear he is a sailor. Now wait for the PIR graduation it's fantastic! Try and sit up in the balcony that way you can see everything.
  • NavyMomKim2

Nani -I got my first handwritten letter later in the week on week three since mail only goes out on Sunday's. We are in MN and so we usually get a letter on Thursday's. Also depends how much time they have to write. I did tell my son before he left that I didn't care if the letters were 2 sentences I would just like something so I am hearing from him. His recruit told to establish how often we would like to hear as they don't have much time to write. Every letter I remind him to stay focused and positivity as the reward at the end is what he is reaching for and will all pay off when he gets there. We also then got a call at week 3 of him being gone also; they usually come in Sat or Sun. All Divisions vary though.

  • NavyMomKim2

NNLori~ I got my first handwritten letter the 3rd week of being gone later in the week. Prayers and faith that your comes this week also.

  • AnchorsAweigh!

Nani-I too received my hand written letter in week 3. It takes time to establish a kinda mail room once that's done, mail starts. So they write on Sundays, mail it on Mondays and Thursday became my fav day as wld receive his letter. If u haven't already sign up on USPS for Informed Delivery, it's free from post office they scan every peice of mail coming to you that day. But don't do it too early else it might say no mail today when in actual fact you do. I got disappointed for nothing one day so then I used to look at 8 am. But remember no news is good news and they are in the best hands, Navy hands.
  • Timsmom97

NNLori- I too received mine end of 3rd week. Then I got his phone call the next day, which was a Saturday. I pray this weekend you will be blessed by hearing his voice!
  • NNLori

I might have hopes too high that I will get something tomorrow!!
  • Timsmom97

Even though I have heard from him, I still keep my phone glued to me. You will hear from him. Each day is a day closer, and a day closer to when we will see them.
  • NNLori

Yes, each day we are one day closer to PIR! Oh my goodness I cannot wait!! These are the longest 8 1/2 weeks of my life!! I even have projects to keep me busy so I do t dwell on it but it's always on my mind.
  • NavyMomKim2

NNLori - depends where you live on receiving the mail. last weekend my eldest son (WI) received a letter a from his brother on Friday due to the Holiday and I didn't get anything, so was kind of bummed but I had texted all my family and told them when they get a letter to please send me a photo as it just makes this momma happy to read all of them as each have a little different info. Then Friday night my sister texted me they got a letter too (MN). I accepted that this was the week he didn't write me as we had spoke Saturday and Sunday was when they could write, but then late Saturday afternoon we got a letter in our mailbox (MN). So it is so hard knowing with the mail but till the Holiday week, it has been pretty consistent to get mine on Thursdays. Like AnchorsAweigh said; they are in good hands, and I had to keep reminding myself of that. Hugs!

  • Timsmom97

NNLori- Even with my work, he's always first on my mind! My husband says I'm obsessed! I write every day, burn a blue candle every night and talk about him constantly. My son said the letters from home help a lot... that's all I needed to hear!!! We need to stay strong for them, and we will-1 day at a time.
  • NNLori

NavyMomKim2- I love that your son is writing to so many people. I'm not really sure how much my son will write. He isn't a writer really but I figured if it's your good only way to contact friends and family and if everyone else is doing it then I figure he will do it also. I hope! Lol!! It's just the not knowing that is killing me. I don't need a big long detailed letter. Just few lines letting me know he is ok and things are progressing. That would put my mind at ease. When you don't know your mind has a tendency to think of the worst case scenario!
  • NNLori

Timsmom97- I don't think you aren't obsessed at all!! I try not to drive people crazy by talking not stop about my Navy son!! Lol!! It's a hard transition for us! One minute we are a Mom taking care of all their needs. Food, shelter, laundry. We are up to date on what they are involved in. Going to their sports games and such. And then one day your supposed to just say good bye and that's it!!! It's not possible!! He is my baby and he always will be no matter how old he is and no matter what rank he becomes or where he lives!!!! It's just what a Mom does!! ❤️❤️❤️ It's nice be in touch with you Timsmom97! I know you are in the earlier PIR group. It I've missed hearing from. I hope all is going well for your SR
  • yorkshirelass

Travel Mom, congratulations on getting your form letter, mine left on 9/5 also, maybe we will see each other at graduation, don't have my letter yet
  • librarianmom

I got my first letters on the Thursday of the first week. We got the first call that third weekend...but some of the divisions in that same group got them the next weekend.
  • mom of two

I got my first letter on a Friday.  He just called this last Saturday and said he sent one to his grandmother on Friday, but she hasn't received it yet either.  We will see how long it takes!  Today is a depressing day as it's my birthday and my son used to get up every year bright and early and sing happy birthday to me.  Little things like that are what we all miss!!!!!  It is hard letting go of the control, but baby steps right??? lol..........Have a great day everyone!!!!!!

  • librarianmom

Thanks Anchorsaway! It was a rough go! He sounded so happy yesterday though...I know he will make it! Hoping A school goes a little smoother though! Can't wait to get to Great Lakes! We will be there tomorrow!
  • partyofseven

    Hey NNLori and Timsmom97,

I do that to. I talk about him constantly and I've read everything there is I think. Lol Have a great day ladies!!

  • Phoenixmom

Nani it usually took the 3rd week to recieve a letter then I recieved a call. first two weeks are processing weeks. I had to remind myself to be patient because my mind was everywhere, and then when I heard his voice that was it! I had recieved a call sat. morning. before I even recieved my first letter I had already written like 10. believe me I know the feeling. You should be recieving something soon, keep your head up!

  • Mamabear

Timsmom, I feel the same way. One day I was a mom taking care of everything and then she was gone. I miss her so much.
  • yorkshirelass

Travelmom - yes I am English and my husband is welsh.Cant wait to check my mail when I get home!
  • Sweetnezz

    Hello Everyone-

My son left last Thursday and I got his box today.. Now I'm waiting on my letter..

  • Mattsmomma

It took me six days to get the box, another eight days to get my first handwritten letter (Having waited the standard two weeks, I called the recruiter that morning to get his Ship and Division number so I could at least start writing), and then I got the form about five days after that.  My letters have been coming on Thursdays, with the exception of last week when I got it Friday due to the holiday.  My recruit has had two opportunities to call home - once about 2 1/2 weeks in and once this past weekend at 4 1/2 weeks in - calendar time, not training day time.

  • Mamabear

LisaC- I think the same way. If I had only said no. If I had said finish college first. I kept asking her are you sure. I finally came to the conclusion that it was her decision and as painful as it was for me, I would have to abide by it. I'm just hoping for a call or letter soon to make me feel better.
  • JennBNavyMom

I can totally relate. I forbade it! I said no way. You have money saved to go to college, or a trade school... anything. In the end it's their choice. I'm so proud but I also still wish he was at college somewhere I could call or visit. Today is three weeks and I'm dying to hear from him. Hang in there ladies. I think lots of us feel this way. ❤️
  • NNLori

    AMEN!!
  • librarianmom

I envy my college mom friends who are getting texts and pictures during these weeks of bootcamp...but I will get those soon too!  I never once thought about saying no, it's his choice he has to live with it.  He wasn't ready for school and I can relate to that, I wasn't ready either.  If he decides to go to school later they will pay for it!  And it's kind of like trade school, he is learning important trades!

It has been hard, and different than I pictured when I had a baby.  I am sure I will miss him when he is deployed but I am oh so proud!

  • Blue Mom

LisaC, I understand, this was not my choice for my son either. This is a whole new world for our family. I was not given choices when I was his age, my parents had limits as to what I could do. (It didnt serve me well and I still resent them for it.) So when I had my own, I swore I would support their decisions. So here I am.
Imho our children our gifts to us for a limited time, we do the best we know how in raising them and then they create their own lives. All we can do now is be there for them to encourage, support, and love like only moms can. The fact that they chose to do this makes them amazing already! Hugs to you and hang in there!
  • MommaB328

I wish that there was a "love" button like on FB...  @Blue Mom and @librarianmom, I totally agree with your last posts.

  • AnchorsAweigh!

Librarianmom, you will have a wonderful time. It was soo emotional esp when his division came marching in. Couldn't see through my proud tears. Have a lovely time and soo happy your son is happy, he has proved he is tough Navy tough. Bless his heart!
  • Phoenixmom

Good morning Ladies hope you all have a wonderful Thursday, and may the call and letters come your way today, tomorrow, and so on! I would like to put a few scriptures for all the SR'S and Sailors, I pray for strength and courage to all of them.Deuteronomy 31:6-8

6  Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”   8                                The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”    Amen. So proud of them all!

  • Phoenixmom

Congrats LisaC1638 your SR is on his way! Best wishes for your SR.

  • Chipmunk

Great encouragement Phoenixmom. That is one of the scriptures I shared with my SR right before BS-21. Ladies, hold fast to that for yourselves as well. The Lord is with you and watches over you and your SR. One more day till Friday, safe travels for those of you headed to PIR. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. For the rest of you, you are one day closer!!

  • Phoenixmom

Thank You Chipmunk, I also shared with my SR right before BST-21. also many more scriptures and everytime he said thank you mom I needed that. we dont realize how hard they are working and many sleepness nights they are enduring so I always focused on determination, strength, courage. and they really need that especially if they are struggling. so Moms stay strong for your SR'S because they sometimes feel like they made the wrong decision.

  • Kraftinkat

Happy belated birthday mom of two
  • Kraftinkat

I got my box!! He sent the calling card I bought him back! How does he think he is gonna call me...even sent his deordant back.. lol
  • Anti M

He couldn't keep the deodorant anyway.  The calling card is odd, he should have put it in his wallet.  Just mail it to him once you get an address.

  • DeAnna

Hello, all. I finally got an address to write my recruit.

  • partyofseven

Hey LisaC1638-that is great. I got one to but cant read it until I get home. :)
