I am flying Southwest from Houston to Midway airport. It was only $147 roundtrip.
  • Attygirl123

@Jen, is that one of those nonrefundable fares?
  • Jen

It is non refundable but we can exchange it for a different flight. We just have to pay the difference in flight cost.

  • Kraftinkat

Which week is the battle stations
  • Chipmunk

Kraftinkat - I think discussion about when BS take place are usually kept within the PIR group for a little extra security. Your recruit may comment about them in their letters because it is a big deal to them, but the timing may not actually agree with what it seems like they are indicating.

  • Attygirl123

We can say that battle stations is like their final exam and if/when they pass...that's when we have a SAILOR!

Kraftinkat, The "I'm a Sailor!" call can come a day before PIR, but usually at least two days before PIR, to ten days before PIR at times although most of the time the first divisions of the TG will make that call about a week before PIR. .

  • lemonelephant

Info on when Battle Stations-21 (BST) will be for a division or divisions should NOT be posted openly (that includes in a closed group) until after BST has been completed since BST is considered a Ship movement. See the info in Battle Stations-21 (BST). Only share the date in a PM. The dates for BST will be known by the recruit early on since BST is scheduled and included in the MTS soon after the division forms (or before).

  • Chipmunk

lemonelephant-thanks for commenting on when and where BST should be discussed. I just knew it wasn't here or on chat. I can't seem to tell that PM is any more secure, but I may still not have figured it out properly yet as well. Thanks.

  • Attygirl123

Absolutely. The admins are GREAT on this site and much appreciated. Other than stating what date my sons would be at MEPS and (hopefully) finding out their PIR dates, I certainly would not know or reveal any other dates. Speaking in general terms is sufficient.
  • Junogirl

Hi, Bootcamp Moms!  If you haven't tried it yet, get the Sandboxx app for your tablet (or phone if you have nimble fingers).  I use it to send my SR letters every 2 days.  I type it, attach a picture, and click "send."  Sandboxx (for a fee), prints it and mails it, and lets you know when it's been sent. My handwriting takes too long, and I can type when I'm waiting somewhere, or during a TV commercial, and so my SR can get letters frequently.  (And I haven't used snail mail in years, so have NO stamps). So if you are lazy like me, get Sandboxx.  They also set up my flight arrangements for PIR.

Good Morning Ladies hope all is well, Happy Tuesday, hope all you Mothers recieve letters and Phone calls!

Good Morning Ladies hope all is well, Happy Tuesday, hope all you Mothers recieve letters and Phone calls!

  • Countrymom

My son left today. Waiting for the "I'm here" call. I was seeing on other blogs that they only get 4 tickets to PIR. Is this correct?
  • Phoenixmom

Margaret It just depends on how big the Div. are some only get 3 some 4. when you get your letter with that info it will have information as to how many guest can go from your family, the rest will need to stay at hotel and watch from conferance room that they have.

  • Countrymom

Will they have free time to visit after?
  • Phoenixmom

Just wanted to post for some of you Mothers to know what the 1

    WEEK 1:  IN-PROCESSING

Once you arrive you’ll be given Navy-issued clothing and taught the right way to fold and store your new belongings and how make your bunk. You’ll receive complete dental and medical exams, and if you need a haircut, you'll get one.

The first week will also be filled with conditioning, swimming, marching, drilling, and most importantly, attending Navy classes. Everything you do from this point on is designed to prepare you for what lies ahead. You will push your physical limits and achieve higher performance levels than you ever thought possible.

Honor, Courage, Commitment: Three words that probably held little meaning before Boot Camp. Here, they’re words you’ll live by. These Navy Core Values will become the ideals you and your fellow shipmates live by.

st week of BC consist of.

  • Kraftinkat

I know I saw it somewhere the breakdown of what happens each week. I can't find it now. Can someone direct me? Thanks in advance.
  • Phoenixmom

    WEEK 2:  CONFIDENCE

This is a confidence-building week. you’ll be going through the confidence course, a course designed to simulate shipboard situations you could encounter in an emergency. Stay sharp because your life and the lives of your fellow shipmates depend on it. Teamwork and confidence are the themes for week two.

    WEEK 3:  HANDS-ON

This week you’ll board a land-bound training ship. Everything will be hands-on, something your Recruiter told you the Navy is big on. You’ll learn everything from ship nomenclature (Names), to first aid techniques, to semaphore (signaling with flags). Classroom studies will focus on customs and courtesies, laws of armed conflict, money management, shipboard communication, Navy ship and aircraft identification, and basic seamanship. In week three you will also have your first physical training (PT) test.

    WEEK 4:  LIVE FIRE

If you’ve never fired a weapon before, you’ll get your chance in week four.  You will have the opportunity to train with the M-16 and a 12-gauge shotgun. When you’ve proven you know how to properly use both, you’ll move to the live-fire range. Graduation pictures are this week as well as an academic test on everything you’ve learned to date.

  • Phoenixmom

    WEEK 5:  CAREER

This week is all about you. Where you want to go, what you want to do, and how fast you intend to get there. Find the shortest distance between where you are and where you want to be. You are more than half-way through basic training, the finish line is in sight.  Remember that 180-degree-life-change your Recruiter told you about?  It’s happening.

    WEEK 6:  FIRE SAFETY

The big topics for this week are shipboard damage control and firefighting. Two of the most vital skills you’ll need on board a ship. You’ll learn many ship safety techniques such as how to extinguish fires, escape smoke-filled compartments, open and close watertight doors, operate Oxygen Breathing Apparatus, and carry fire hoses. Another academic test, and perhaps the most challenging of all, is the Confidence Chamber. Inside the Chamber, you and about 100 other recruits will line up and put on a gas mask while a tear gas tablet is lit. You’ll be ordered to remove your mask and throw it in a trash can while reciting your full name and social security number. Relax. Every Sailor before you has mastered it and so will you. This week you’ll also have to finish the confidence course, as a team.

    WEEK 7:  BATTLE STATIONS

Battle Stations is Navy boot camp’s ultimate test. This exercise consists of 12 different scenarios incorporating everything you have learned during the previous weeks. You and your team will be graded on your ability to execute the required tasks.  Successful completion nets you the ultimate reward, a U.S. Navy ball cap. This cap tells the world you’re no longer a Recruit, but a full-fledged Navy Sailor.  All that is left is graduation

    WEEK 8:  GRADUATION

You made it!  Don your dress uniform and get ready for graduation. You are a Sailor in the U.S. Navy. After today, your family and friends will envy you. Strangers on the street will thank you. Your Navy family will always have your back. Savor this moment. Not everybody makes it; not everybody should.

  • Phoenixmom

  • Sweetnezz

    Hello Everyone,

My son left on Sept 07. I still haven't received my packet. Is anyone else in the same boat?
  • Mamabear

My daughter left on the 6th and I received the packet last Thursday.
  • Blue Mom

Sweetnezz, If you don't receive it by the time he has been there 2 weeks you can contact his recruiter and he should be able to give you the info you need to write him and his pir date and all. My sons form letter was lost in the mail, I got his hand written first letter before the form letter. Hopefully you will receive it soon!
  • Attygirl123

My second son hasn't called to let me know he made it to RTC. What does that mean? Is something wrong? When will they tell me something?
  • Anti M

@Attygirl, if he took his phone, he might not have had time to charge it, or he might not have had time to call.  It happens.  Nothing is wrong, and no news is good news.  The Navy will only call you directly if something has gone wrong.  It is unfortunate you didn't get a call, but that's all.

  • Attygirl123

    Okay. Thank you, Anti M.
  • mom of two

How exciting..........we are 1/2 way ladies!!!!!!  I cannot wait to see my son's face!!!  I have gotten 1 call and 1 letter, which is ok, but I am greedy and I want more....lol!!!!!!  Have a wonderful day ladies!!!!!!

  • Sweetnezz

    Hello Everyone,

I spoke with his recruiter. He said give it a few more days and if I don't receive his PIR packet,he'll call and get all the information I need. Can they have 3 or 4 ppl to attend their Graduation? We need 6 tickets for our family. So we will need 2 or 3 extra tickets. So if anyone can help us out by adding a few names on their list. We would greatly appreciate it.He has been gone since Sept 07. So I think his PIR date is November 03. TIA
  • partyofseven

mom of two-yes we want more. Lol Have a great day as well.

  • lemonelephant

Sweetnezz, no one can add names for the tickets for another recruit. That would be a security issue and both recruits could get in BIG trouble. Those that the recruit does not indicate on the Security Form will need to watch the Livestream and meet up with your new Sailor at the hotel or other location after Liberty is called.
  • lemonelephant

Chipmunk, a PM is a Private Message and is like email through the site and can only be viewed by the sender and recipient/s. PM's are found in the Inbox in the upper left. The other place that BST info can be shared is in the Private Chat (it is like an instant message and is just between two members). Do not post BST info in the Main Chat Room since that is visible to many.
  • Sweetnezz

    Thanks for the FYI lemonelephant.
  • Junogirl

My understanding is that if another recruit adds names to their guest list to help another recruit, both will be separated out.  We have 7 people coming to my daughter's PIR, and 3 of them will watch from the hotel, and we will come get them when the ceremony is over and we have our sailor.  The letter and the form will tell you specifically how many people can attend and which names your SR listed on the form.

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Ladies, just wondering if any I'm a Sailor calls have came in....CONGRATULATIONS to you and your NEW SAILOR if any come in! wishing the best for all of you! Have a good Day Ladies....

  • Sweetnezz

    Thanks Everyone for the FYI..
  • Mamabear

Another SR from our town who knows my daughter because of cheer, saw her marching at bc. They passed it along on fb till it got to me. It brought tears to my eyes to know she is ok. It's the little things!

Good Morning Ladies Happy Thursday! To all the new Moms/Tias/ Aunts/Grandmothers welcome to the site. You will find much needed answers to all of your questions here. their are alot of knowledgable women on this site plus all us Mothers who have endured the same pain/loss/anxiety/stress/and the not knowing just know that your Son/Daughter/Nephew/Grandchild are in good hands. As they come into BC they will be doing the Processing thing for a good week or two, letters and calls start coming around the 3 week, just be patient. The training is very strenuous plus they will be up very early so lets just say a little sleep deprived. the best news is no news, I know thats hard to say and understand but it is true no news is good news. and express your feelings here we all have been thru it, so cry cry cry. I know I did, and when I recieved my first call and letter it was well worth it..Know they are missing home and you also but stay strong for them (your Loved ) because they too will have mixed emotions as to what have they done. they will second guess themselves and believe me some Hate it. but BC is BC for a reason. in the end they will be proud of themselves as well as you and the rest of the family. One day at a time is what I continued to tell myself. My son is a Sailor and attending Great Lakes he graduated Sept. 1st. the Proudest moment EVER! Good luck Ladies to you and Your SR. Keep strong and Keep the Faith. Good Day!

Hello everyone!my Recruit left last Tues 9/12 and its been a very emotional week to say the least! We received "the box" yesterday, which brought me to the "ugly cry" and down on my knees. I know what he is doing is an awesome thing and I'm so proud of him, but it sure tugs on my heart daily! I'm so thankful for this website and group that helps get me through. Does anyone else have a recruit that left that same day from Los Angeles?

  • Mamabear

@patriotmama67 I cried loud, ugly tears for my girl and I still do. At random times too. It's hard but the support on here is great!
  • Phoenixmom

Mamabear and Patriotsmama67 I completly understand the whirl wind of emotions, believfe me my daughter and husband would always say to me mom/wife he is in BC hes not dead which was wrong for them to say because I did feel like I was mourning. My son and I were bestest friends and to have him away wheeewwwww! I tell you, But your SR'S are fine they have alot of physical test that need to be done so they are hard at work. You ladies will be fine and so will they, and it's ok to feel the way you do, I say unless you go thru it you wont know how it feels...Stay strong Mammas they are doing a great thing! Many Blessings and Prayers sending your way and to everyones Loved One!

  • Phoenixmom

  • TAT'sMom

Hi ladies, just a moment to encourage you. My son left June 5 for Great Lakes,I cried,I all but stalked the mail man rushing to receive that letter every Thursday. Then a call here and there, worked two jobs to save the money for air fare and hotel, finally graduation. Mixed emotions for 8 weeks and so many prayers for him and not to mention me! He did great, and I was trying to do great. Then off to Pensacola for A school, but I felt better having the ability to talk to him and text or call when Mom needed to! So ladies it's tough but the time flies by, today my son, my Sailor graduated and home for some R and R. Reality hits, our boys are men and our ultimate defenders of our great country! God bless all our men and women and Moms's and Dads who make this possible. Hang tough it gets better each day.
