These are the addresses to the ships but you must know the div#.

it would be SR. last name first name

    Ship# Div#

    Adress to ship

    City, State Zip

  • DeAnna

Hello, everyone. So in my form letter, it didn't have  USS Kearsarge included in the address at all nor was it on the outside of the letter my son sent the form letter in but then on his first official letter that was included. I haven't addressed any of my letters this way because I was going by the form letter. So to see that it should be included has me so confused.

  • TASM

DeAnna - The ship name is not included. Just the ship number.

SR (LAST NAME), (FIRST NAME) (MIDDLE I)
    SHIP ?? DIV ???
    (Street Address)
    GREAT LAKES, IL 60088-3520

I hope this helps clarify the address for you! :-)
  • DeAnna

    Thank You!

  • Phoenixmom

You do not need to put the name of ship just the address, hope this clarifies.

  • Jen

My SR is on Ship 14. What does BB-39 mean?
  • Phoenixmom

It is the ship USS Arizona I believe, ship name. Someone correct me if I am wrong, it is seldom used for recruits.

  • Jen

Yes, I was told it is the USS Arizona.
  • Phoenixmom

This is what I found very interesting how this came about

This meant that Battleships became "BB-X" and Destroyers became "DD-X" That is how they came up with bb-39 it was at one time a battleship that had gotten damage big story behind it if you google it.

  • Jen

    Thank you Phoenixmom.
  • Phoenixmom

    You are welcome. Thank You!

  • ellen0502

Phoenixmom, ship 14 is used regularly for the recruits. It currently has recruit from almost every TG housed in it.

  • Phoenixmom

No we were talking about the USS Arizona it stated that it was rarely used, from the article I was reading. and how it was a battleship and the story behind it..... quite interesting.

  • Navystgmil

FYI there are some div’s pictures on U.S Navy recruit training comand Facebook page.

  • NNLori

  • NNLori

Glad you found them! Yes, me too!!
  • lemonelephant

Check out https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand. There is no guarantee that your recruit will be photoed, but it is fun to look at the photos and get an idea of what is happening at the RTC. They do not have pages that follow a particular division.

https://www.facebook.com/ASBPGreatLakes has pics of some of the recruits who give blood while at the RTC. Those donations occur about 2 weeks (10 to 16 days depending on the division) before PIR.

  • lemonelephant

Phoenixmom, Ship 14 (Bldg. 7111) is the USS Arizona (BB-39) and is regularly used and currently houses at least 8 divisions in its compartments. See Ship/Division--How it Works.

  • Phoenixmom

Ladies please don't get me wrong and I am not assuming anything. I would just like you all to know Passing the PFA/PFT is a struggle to some and not so for others. And that is ok, when your Son/Daughter was in DEP  they usually had meetings and those meetings were for training on swim, run, exercise. Please just know some may pass some may not. But they will get the Help that is needed. so please if you get a call that things have changed their can be many reasons as to why, don't be discouraged. Your Son/Daughter will not be set up for Failure, they will be Helped with anything that they may be struggling with. And speak to them and give them strength, courage, determination. Pray over the phone with them a lot of them need that. I send my Blessing to everyone's Son/Daughter and I pray that they focus and find that determination within themselves to get where they need to be. They are not by themselves the Lord is right beside them pushing them every step of the way!

Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. ...

  • partyofseven

    Hey Mamabear,
That is great that she passed. :) From what I've been reading not until week 5 or after I think. But I'm not sure. I won't get my letters until tomorrow. So we shall see.Hugs to you and your sailor.
  • Mamabear

Partyofseven-I hope you get letters tomorrow. It is positive that she passed. Hoping that she feels better so that she can take her pt test. Prayers for both of you.
  • Phoenixmom

Congrats, Mamabear That is Great News! I think once you and her are able to speak over the phone things will be better, something about hearing their voice things start to calm down. Praying for more Moms to get calls and Letters.

  • Matthewsmom

My son left yesterday. I got his call at 10:30 last night and I cried for about an hour because of scripted call. I am very proud and am excited for the growth that will take place. But my heart is so incredibly sad right now. Teosmom.
  • SweetTea

My son has been at bootcamp for three weeks. I am missing him terribly! I've gotten one letter but haven't been able to talk with him directly. I know he's busy but I'd love to hear his voice and talk to him for just five minutes. Not knowing if he's hurt or talking to him about his day makes my days incredibly long. Feels like he's been gone for months. My daughter in-law shares information with me and I'm grateful. Will I ever get used to this?!
  • Phoenixmom

Welcome Matthewsmom, and the emotional feelings that you are having is very normal, all of us Mothers on this site have endured every feeling there is to have. Congrats to your SR for joining. if you have any questions you have come to the right place. here on this site are a lot of Wonderful Mothers/Aunts/Grandmothers and very knowledgeable ones too. you may also join the site of Welcome to the Meps and Dep and it too will give you insight and info.

  • Phoenixmom

SweeTea that call will soon come, be patient! I tell you it is something with us Moms having to hear their voice that makes things so much better. and THE NOT KNOWING part is what will eat us up. Just keep reminding yourself he is busy and he is ok, remember the NO NEWS is GOOD NEWS. But I completely understand, went thru it myself. My Son just recently Graduated Sept. 1st. he is in Great Lakes attending A school, so being so far apart from him is a challenge.

  • HockeyLaxMom

Matthewsmom I completely understand your feelings. My son just left on Monday, and I'm still trying to figure out when I'll stop tearing up when I think of him. It's much harder than I thought! I was pretty sure I was prepared for this, but it still kind of blindsides you. I know we'll all get through this because this is the right move for our children and we all want nothing but the best for them!
  • SweetTea

Thank you Phoenixmom! You're absolutely right...the not knowing is the hardest. Congratulations to your SR! I know you've got to be one proud mom.

  • Cheryl17

Would there be a reason my son hasnt got his mail from me as of yet? He left Sept 6th. He has indicated in his letters others in his division is getting mail but he still hasn't received his? S
  • Cheryl17

I only worry cause the information he needed returned for PIR Nov 3rd.
  • Phoenixmom

Know that letters mailed before you get the form letter do not get to your recruit much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because the recruits cannot receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer has been trained in how to handle mail, which means it is usually sometime in the third week or later (1-3 or 1-4 DOT) when they start receiving mail depending on when P-days ended and the division formed. (We are hearing that many recruits had one Mail Call without mail when their loved ones waited on the form letter. Some have sent one letter a week after arrival after checking the address and then waited on the form letter to mail additional letters to reduce the chance of no mail at the first Mail Call. If you do this, do not include photos or phone cards or anything other than a letter or card since the letter may get rerouted if your recruit changes divisions and/or ships.) Recruits can start writing letters the first Sunday they are in their Ship. This is sometimes, rarely, the first Sunday after they arrive, but is often not until the second Sunday, which is why that first real letter often does not arrive until your recruit has been gone nearly 3 weeks. (The Red Book actually indicates that the first holiday routine cannot be before the second Sunday after arrival, but their have been early letters a few times.) For some recruits who arrive on Thursday or Friday and have to remain in P-days while waiting for additional recruits to arrive the following Monday or Tuesday to fill the division, it could be the third Sunday before they get to write. (You will soon learn when mail day is for you. Most of my letters came on Wednesday in Missouri, but your mail day may be before or after that depending on how far you are from the RTC.) At first recruits are only permitted to write during holiday routine on Sunday and later they may be able to write on one or two other days

  • NNLori

Remember that he sent that on Sunday. It takes time for them to train a mail person from their division so it usually takes about 2 good weeks sometimes more before they start getting mail.
  • Phoenixmom

as well (often Tuesday and Thursday) and some Divisions may earn the privilege of writing every day if they are doing really well or if the RDC feels that providing that privilege will boost morale. Some RDCs permit them to mail letters only on Sunday afternoon with mail going out Monday morning even when they can write on other days and others permit them to mail letters on the day they are written with mail going out the next morning. (The letters written during holiday routine or other times are collected in a bag by the RMPO and then mailed on Monday morning.) It is up to the RDC and there does not seem to be a "norm" for this. Once your recruit can receive mail, Mail Call is every weekday evening (M-F). All mail received at the RTC is distributed on the day it is received to the recruits in their compartments that evening sometime prior to Taps

  • Phoenixmom

here is a site also you may want to address your questions.

New Members  Help desk and a good person to go to would be ellen0502 about the letters.

  • Happyone00

Hello Moms!  I wonder if anyone else has this situation and what they did about it.  My son graduated boot camp on 9/21.  I had been told by our recruiter at the start of boot camp that I should maintain SR's health insurance coverage until he finished boot camp, so I did not contact my benefits department until 9/24.  Today the benefits administrator informed me that I had to of reported the new coverage within 60 days of start of new coverage in order to process a status change.  I now have to wait until open enrollment and continue coverage through 2017.  Any suggestions?
