Re: sending newspaper articles, etc.  Please do NOT because, yes, it rubs off on everything.  However feel free to copy onto paper to send...conserve space (i.e., not making envelopes thick which may make your SR have to open in front of RDCs!) by copying on the back of your letters if you can.

  • Anti M

Also, be sparing in how much reading matter you send.  If they have time to read, they have time to clean.  Some is good, a lot draws attention.

  • sambam32

Thanks Anti M. All good points!

  • E's ⚓proud⚓ mom

A comment about reading materials.... My son said that any free time he has he either writes letters or studies for the written tests, or sleeps. He only gets 4 hours a sleep as it is. He said the group study is pretty chaotic so has tried to study on his own if he's not too tired. I cannot imagine anything but small snippets to read would be needed. My son said he has a ton of letters from people, which he appreciates very much. That's what they look forward to. There's just not time for anything else. He only writes return letters when he's not too tired after their 16 hour day. My two cents.
  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Ladies, hope you all had a Great weekend.

    Welcome To the New Comers.

E's proud mom you are correct they have long days plus with standing watch it sometimes gets a little hard to write, I would get a couple of lines in my letters and my son would say half the time he was sleeping when writing.

Hope you all have a great Day!

  • Blakesmom

In my call this weekend, my SR requested I send some song lyrics. He hadn't heard music since he left and he had some portions of songs going thru his mind.

Big Ed's BBQ is within walking distance of hotel - great food.  We also ate at Wildberry Cafe (about 10 min away) - great breakfast spot if you want something other than at the hotel

Also ordered pizza from a local shop (starts with a G - you really can't go wrong).  I did hear Anastasia's Restuarant was good but didn't try it ourselves (also within walking distance of hotel)

  • Phoenixmom

Captain Porky's was great family owned BBQ big portions and good also Giordano's had great deep dish pizza pie. we took our Son to Steven's steak place after PIR he really enjoyed it, there were many other Families there also needs reservations.

  • Anti M

Technically, they are only allowed to write letters on Sunday.  If they are writing at night, that's sweet, but breaking the rules.  Always assume your SR is dozing off during the relaxed routine on the weekend, and never, ever admit they write at night.

  • Pina

Hi ladies!! How far is the captain porky's from Naval station? Can I take my son out to eat the graduation Day?
  • Phoenixmom

Pina it is about 18 min. from the visiting Center where you will be picking up your Sailor. 38995 US-41, Wadsworth, IL 60083 is the address.

Hi Kami - I got my son's box yesterday. I am also anxiously awaiting his PIR date and address.
  • Lazerguppie

My "kid in the box" came today.

  • Shacha

Are there boot camp photos or videos that are current and viewable? My son arrived a week ago.
  • sambam32

Well the scripted 17 second call just came through...I almost didn't even know what he said because I was so surprised by the unexpected call so early in the night! I didn't get my I love you in so I hurried up and texted it right away. Our recruits will be ok.
  • diannep

Shacha:  Sometimes on the RTC FB page, they will post random photos of divisions.  Just keep checking!  The page is Recruit Training Command on FB.

  • Shacha

    Thank you diannep

Anybody have opinions re: the sandboxx app?
  • Retta

The Sandboxx app is wonderful. My entire family has been sending letters & my son lives receiving constant letters
  • Jennifer

Can someone let me know this sandbox app.works...lol...
  • Pina

    Hi
  • teachermom1

Our box came today. Not quite a week--he left last Wednesday.

  • Jessica0914

Jennifer, the sandboxx app works wonderfully. I have send 10 letters already. And usually it only takes 24 to 30 hours to deliver them.
  • Phoenixmom

  • Kbpoohbear

For those who received their kid box, did it have a picture of them in uniform?
  • Pina

Hi!! What is a kid box?
  • Phoenixmom

I believe it's their Box with clothes that gets sent home.

  • Kbpoohbear

    Thank you
  • Cali

Kbpoohbear, I received my husband’s box. No picture, but in the box I did find a gold coin with a Cross and the American Flag on it, that reads, “Thousands Died For My Freedom. One Died For My Soul” I know it’s small, but I was happy to find something besides his clothes.

I hope you all are doing well!
  • Pina

I received the box few weeks ago, but not picture.
  • Mamabear

Received the box in September but no extras.
  • Phoenixmom

I believe some may or may not receive something, I know I didn't either. But this is actually the first I have heard of this so maybe something new not sure.

  • Chipmunk

Ladies, the only things that are mailed back in the box are your recruits clothes, and cell phone and shoes, toiletries, anything they left home with but aren't too keep at BC. Sometimes they accidently send back their wallets, or calling cards - mine, almost forgot to send his cell phone, it was sitting beside the box as his watch!!

As I recall, once before Phoenixmom mentioned that her son's High School graduation pictures came in the mail the same day as her box also arrived, not that a BC picture was in the box. - Sorry if this caused any confusion, I know she didn't mean to and she will clear it up the next time she is on site.  Hooyahsuzy, shared the timeline for BC pictures.

  • Chipmunk

Gotta love technology - obviously Phoenixmom and I are crossing paths in Cyberspace!!

  • Phoenixmom

Chipmunk I believe they are speaking on what the other Ladies received in there Box, Not so much as me receiving my sons High school graduation Pics when I received his Box. Such as Cali and Kboohbear. stating they received a picture and a coin so there is a mix up.

  • Phoenixmom

Chipmunk I believe the Ladies are speaking on what the other Ladies received in their Box, not so much what I received, as my Graduation Pictures came at the same time my box did, there is a mix up.

  • Phoenixmom

So Ladies are replying that they didn't receive any extras as did Cali and Kbpohbear when they received their Box.

  • Phoenixmom

Sorry Ladies for the mix up, actually in the box should be their clothes, cell phones, shoes ect.  I hadn't received anything extra myself but like Hooyahsuzy mentioned they may have taken these beforehand. so that may be why there was a little extra in others boxes. So sorry for the mix up of conversations.

  • Kbpoohbear

Thank you. I was mixed up. I probably didn't read as closely as I should have. I was half asleep. I know what should be in the kid box but. . . Sorry everyone
  • Phoenixmom

Ladies I wish you all a great night, please keep posting any comments and concerns you may have. Sometimes things get a little confusing but its ok, we manage to get things straight. And know every concern is answerable and their are never any wrong questions to ask. May the calls and Letters come your way!

  • Navymom2

Hi NavyMoms! Is there any current information on Christmas box deliveries to our recruits?  Is there a deadline for mailing purposes?  Thanks... :)
