Hello, my husband graduates on the 8th & i remember someone mentioning a captains dinner i think that’s what it’s called. I wanna say we had to sign up for it, does anyone know if it’s too late to sign up ?
  • Chipmunk

Darienne  - I think you are talking about Sarge's Meet n Greet - here is the info page http://navyformoms.ning.com/events/graduation-meet-and-greet-12-07-17 - It is a good idea to register (there is a link at the bottom of the page to RSVP) , just so Sarge can have a head count to plan for the food. Please consider making a donation of some sort, he does this all from the kindness of his heart - this will not be for your husband, he will still be at RTC, and now that you have to get tickets, it is best to get those on Thursday as well.

  • Chipmunk

Linda - Online pictures of a current recruit are not easily found, I am sure you were very excited to see your son.

  • Anti M

@ mkl7993 ... when they PCS/change station, they may get a household goods shipment.  If he's already at A school, probably not. After A school, he might get a small shipment.  His orders will state if he's authorized one, and he needs to check with the Personal Property Office on when and how.

  • Darienne

    Thank You! @chipmunk

Does anyone know what time calls could start coming in on Sundays? We didn't get a call a today but are hopeful we will get one tomorrow. Going to church early tomorrow so hopefully he calls after 9:00 am, otherwise I'll be running out of church with my phone!
  • Mamabear

My daughter's calls came between 8 and 9 my time, mountain. She was an hour ahead in Chicago.

I feel for you "New Navy Moms." I felt like i had lost everything. It was almost like a death. If it wouldn't have been for these fine ladies i would have lost it. Writing them everyday is almost theraputic. My advice is to stay busy, and try not to dwell. This is repeated on here " No news is goos news."
  • mkl7993

I am so glad to have this group! Everyone has helped so much, thank you. It helps to know I am not alone through this and know what to expect. How does anyone do this without this group I have no idea.
  • mkl7993

Only 2 more days till my son leaves for BC. It’s going to be challenging dropping him off at the recruiter Tuesday.
  • Linda

Angela - RTC ( Recruit Training Command) Facebook page posts random photos of Recruits occasionally. They also posts pictures from each PIR.

The Recruits can all look alike in distance group shots...so to be able to see them where you can identify them is very fortunate :-)

MKL7993 - My son leaves in 3 days.  I know how you are feeling.  I have a pit in my stomach and cry randomly during the day.  I don't know how we are going to deal with seeing him leave.  My heart is being ripped out of my chest right now.  :(

  • Linda

Ryanmom do not cry in front of him stay strong he needs u be strong can make him feel uneasy abt leaving, I know it hard it was hard for me as well but once he got b.camp I knew he in good hands I bawl like a baby but ever since did I break down in front of him
  • RyansMom

Hi Linda.  I have never cried in front of him and definitely won't.  Whenever we are together it's always upbeat.  We had a going away party for him last night with family and friends and it was a great time.  He loved it all.  I just don't know how to deal with all these emotions!  I'm so incredibly sad he's leaving.  My heart just hurts so much.  I can't imagine what it's going to be like when we see him off to fly to Illinois.  :(

  • mkl7993

Yep...staying strong in front of him ...and we are having going away party today. What is going to be even harder is that I know he is being processed in my building Wednesday for shipping out and I won’t see him. But just knowing he is there will make work hard. Talk about a rough day...ugh
  • Linda

Ryanmom it not easy, I know emotional well come and go but once I seen his picture I have been ok I still miss him but not so emotional as I was before the pic

The number of guests for PIR is probably determined by several factors. Only the "powers that be" know what those are :-)

My "guesses" would be that: PIR takes place indoors and the Drill hal has to meet safety codes. Now, I am sure most would ask, "Well, why can't they change the amount of guests depending on the size of the TG?" IDK...again a guess that there has to be some kind of standard to follow...otherwise it gets too"messy" making changes all the time. Messy brings problems and problems are not good.

The biggest "guess" I would have to make is that it all comes down to security. The beginning of this Fiscal Year (October 1 in the military) RTC implemented stronger security procedures for the Guests attending PIR...so Base security is always a priority issue.

  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

New sailors are bused to their respective airports in the wee hours of the morning all at once...no matter when their flight is. They are briefed at the airport by airport personnel designated for this job. They will be instructed on what they need to do and check in with ticketing. Each airport has a USO for military personnel. They may rest there or may go eat etc. in the airport. They may not leave the airport as they are "on orders" and must adhere to their travel itinerary. Some may think (or have been told it is ok) to risk it and leave...bad idea. You get caught and there will be dire consequences.

There are usually groups of them flying to the same bases and so there will most likely be one of them who is "in charge" of that Group. They are all responsible for themselves though.

You may meet your Sailor at their airport when they arrive or later if 1-3 AM is just too early for you. If your Sailor ahs an early flight such as 5 AM I would suggest meeting them when they arrive at the AP. Mine did and there was a problem in that some of the Sailors did not have their tickets and so it took much longer. We weren't able to spend any down tie with him...but at least we did get to see him and say goodbye.

You or your Sailor may be told that you are not allowed to go to the airport and spend time with/see them off. Not true!  It is also possible for you to obtain a security pass from the airline so that you may go past security with you Sailor and stay with them at the gate. You must be with your Sailor and go to the ticket counter to ask for a pass. Have Government ID with you. each airline is different and of course can deny this depending on the security conditions in place.

Your new Sailors will not find out their itinerary until a few days or day of PIR. So,you won't find out until PIR. Once you do know your Sailors itinerary...never share the information with anyone. To do so is a breach of OPSEC (Operational Security).

  • Mamabear

Ryansmom I cried all the time when my daughter left. I cried on the way to work, at work, when I walked by her room, when I went by her old job. I mourned for a long time. Thank God for this site and people who understood. It does get better.
  • Navystrongmom

sunshinegirl: the airport experience: your SR will get his flight information a couple of days before graduation. Your SR will be able to give you that information the day of graduation after the ceremony. You are able to meet them at the airport to visit with them until their flight leaves. If you're SR flights out of O'Hare you are able to have 6 gusts to be with your SR. All gusts need a photo ID if you don't have a photo ID for someone under the age of 16 you will need a birth certificate and Social Security card for that person. At that point he will be issued a guest pass for each person. They will arrive in the early morning hours regardless of their flight time. They all come in on a bus together regardless of Time of their flight. So some of them have to wait for quite a few hours in the airport before their flight to take off. I just did this with my Sailor this past weekend. To give you a good example my Sailor arrived at the airport at 2:30am. and my Sailor flight did not leave until 1:45 PM. Make sure right after graduation ceremony you ask your SR for their flight information while you're still on the base that way if they forget the information they can go back and get it for you. I hope this helps you if you have anymore questions please feel free to send me a message on here and I will help you as much as I can.

The reason there are only 3 or 4 guests for PIR is strictly for fire code reasons.  The fire marshall assesses how many exits there are, and no more than X warm bodies per exit.  Simple math and safety.  One recruit cannot add the guests for another recruit for security purposes.

  • Anti M

Babydog, usually once they get to SEPS, they are probably coming home, eventually.  Many choose not to appeal, as that can take months and there is no guarantee it will go through.  Have you joined the Ship 5 group?

Thank you Mamabear and Linda!  I am panicking about all of this!  It's so hard to say goodbye and not talk to him for a very long time and not know what is happening.  To go from having him here at home for 18 (almost 19) years to not seeing/hearing from him for 60 days and then school after that is going to be the toughest thing I have ever done.  Him too!  Uugghh!!

  • Linda

Hey ryanmom there say in navy no news is good news just stay positive I know feel the same my son just left last week he been with me since day one

  • Phoenixmom

RyansMom I know the feeling all so well myself, it was the hardest thing ever, I just had to believe in my heart my son knew what it was that he wanted to do and what he chose was the right thing for him. My son is the baby of the family and letting him go was so hard. Right now things are Better he is in A school and we are able to communicate more, but the day he gets deployed out I am sure I will be feeling the same way all over again. So from one Mother to another I know all so well the emotions that you all are feeling. Hang in there Ladies it does get better, as they say NO NEWS Is GOOD NEWS. but once you do receive the first letter and the first call all will fall into place and the anxiety goes away.

  • RyansMom

Thank you Phoenixmom/Linda!  I need to breath!  It's very hard being at work and trying to get things done and this is all that is on my mind!  I already told everyone here that I'm going to be a mess for quite some time so be ready for it!  : )

  • Linda

Ryanmoms just breath and trust and believe u instill in him all he needs to tis point in life the navy take good care of him, that how I get though my days are long yes I still get emotional but I put my trust in God and pray and it seems to help alot

  • Phoenixmom

RyansMom like Linda mentioned just breathe and Pray. Praying gets me thru most things and know he is ok and in Good Hands. Thank You Linda for your words of Wisdom and Encouragement. It is the most important thing to know Ladies that their are others who feel the same and to know what each one of us do to make the time pass and to keep strong helps in every way. You Ladies are Amazing! Thank You all for sharing this goes a long way for others.

  • Phoenixmom

I tend to reach out for scriptures and I pray on them so here are a few I tend to lean on myself.

1 Peter 5:6-7 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,  casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

Philippians 4:6-7 “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

  • Angela

Thank you FTLW & Linda!  I will get back on Facebook for updates:)  Good luck to you RyansMom, we are going on week 4 and it does get a little easier once you get those first couple of letters.  We still are patiently waiting on a phone call.  This is great site to follow other people and get feedback.  Thanks again ladies!

  • RyansMom

Thank you Angela!  I know the first few weeks will be pretty hard but honestly once I see the first mail that comes I will be SO happy!

  • Blakesmom

Missed a call from my SR that he broke his ankle and will be in boot camp for a long time.  Does anyone know where I can find information about what happens to them when they break a bone? Does he have to start boot camp from the beginning after he heals? Will he get to call me again? (I was on a airplane when he called)  Any help would be greatly appreciated...he only had 11 days to PIR.

  • Linda

Blake'smom I do about navy but when my brother was in army he broke his ankle and six weeks later still cud not get up on it they medically discharge him, I will pray for ur son health in his ankle, he should start back where he left off

  • Phoenixmom

That is Great News Kami he is on his way!

BlakesMom I am so sadden to hear about your son, my prayers for healing go out to your son

  • Navymom2

Blake'smom: So sorry to hear about your son's ankle. Praying for him and you.

Kami: Doing the Happy Dance for you!

Phoenixmom: Thanks for sharing those scriptures. They are very much needed... :)

  • Zacsmom

My SR shipped out to boot camp 11/29.  We got his box today.  Hope to get the Form Letter soon so we know when PIR is and can start planning for the next step.  Plus, I will then have somewhere to send his letters (and his phone card which came back in the box!)!  Thank you to all of you who keep us sane with your words of encouragement and the wealth of information you share with us newbies!

  • Anti M

Blakesmom, my friend broke his leg in boot camp.  They held him in the medical unit until he healed, then put him into a division close to the training point he had been at previously.  It took something like an extra six to eight weeks.

A lot depends on the break and the prognosis for healing as to whether he can stay or not.  It is very tough for them, easy to get down about the situation and stay positive.  He will need a lot of support, and will need to take advantage of every opportunity to learn and volunteer and be helpful.

Join the ship five group, I think that's the right one.

  • 4myson

Our son arrived at boot camp today. How and when will we know his training group number and division number? Thank you

  • Chipmunk

Dadofson - It can take a couple of weeks possibly before you get the form letter with his TG, Div# - The box arrives first and seems to be coming earlier than ours did this summer. But I believe it was at least a week after the box before the form letter and then another week or before my first personal letter from my recruit. I didn't have this site, so I didn't know they could only write and send out letters on Sunday. But start writing notes and as soon as you receive the form letter, you can send you mail. Also, I made my motel reservations within 2 days of getting PIR- with rooms that could be cancelled if need be. We drove, so could be flexible that way.

     Kami - So exciting!!

Blakesmom - Sorry to hear the unfortunate news regarding your son, he will be in my prayers. Hopefully you can get encouragement in Ship 5 group.

  • Ceej0347

Dadofson- you will be getting the ‘Im here’ call - usually later tonight.  In a week or so you will receive the ‘kid in a box’ your SR belongings in a box. Next will come the form letter with his training group/division number.  Good luck in your journey!
