LOL Kristel about bear safety tips! Though I would not want to fight back the black bears.

Velvet - they are a very common occurrence here, day or night. We aren't too far from the Ocala National Forest and there are 3000+ bears there. We even had a time where we could hunt them - but the quota was hit in one day. That was the first time in 7 years that we could hunt bears since we moved.

When we first moved into the house we were on our porch and one big daddy of a bear - twice the size of the photo I shared - ambled by hubby like "hey man, how's it going? I'm just a moseying along, pardon me. Have a good day."

I am not thrilled my little guy challenged one.

One time my oldest was late for curfew cause a bear was in his way, lol!

  • LadyBluefire

oh and Kristel I forgot to say how cute was that photo?!

  • VintageGal

Ladies- those are great pictures! The bears are beautiful! I’m not sure I have the proper skills to go toe to toe with a black bear! Lay down yes but more like to run!  Like Pheonixmom, I’m likely to see coyotes!

  • Phoenixmom

Well just read that Eddie Van Halen has passed at the age of 65 Throat cancer went to his brain. as My Husbands was going into his lungs. Sad so Sad he was one bad Guitarist had the experience of seeing Van halen in concert and boy can they drink some Jack daniels....Rip in Peace Eddie!

  • Okie Mom

I know I don’t post often on here but try to keep up via email.

When we drove home from FL I did see a sign to watch for bears. I was thinking, “I’ve never seen a bear here before.” but apparently they are there. I would think they would die of heat stroke! Haha

We got our sailor call today! Yay! Hoping to see our SAILOR on Fridays video and possibly the pictures too. So happy and proud of her!

Hope everyone is doing good and that your SRs are too!

  • Phoenixmom

WHOOOP WHOOOP we have a sailor in the HOUSE! HOOYAH! Congratulations Okie Mom!

Right Heat stroke for sure over in Phoenix AZ! LOL!

  • LadyBluefire

I know it was sad to hear about Eddie Van Halen.

    The bear pictures are awesome!!

Okie Mom- Whoo Hoo we have a Sailor in the house!!! Hooyah!!! That is awesome!!! Congratulations!!!!

Keep those phones on you ladies and those ringers on loud you just never know!!!

  • partyofseven

Shanny- Yuck!! Hope your dog is feeling better.

  • Kristel2400

Congratulations Okie mom!!!! It’s so great to hear that news!

  • Shanny

Not to bring a downer into all of our happy posts but...

Please keep our sailors and residents around the Gulf of Mexico on your thoughts and prayers!  Things are getting real down there with Hurricane Delta-currently Cat 4 and picking up strength. It is an ever changing situation in Pensacola as they are still trying to recover from Sally and currently in the cone of possibility for this one.

  • belovedbyHim

Shanny-- Your subconscious saved you from the calories!!! But Yummmmmmm Caramel Apple!!! Salted Caramel Apple is even better!!
Yes I was just looking at the forecast.  This could be a Bad one!! Hurricane Delta may take out the delta!!  It's still early days though so I'm praying for a miracle (because the water and weather conditions are favorable for a 4 or 5+ storm!!)

LadyBluefire-- Impressive bear resistance there. I have learned there is no such thing as Bear Proof! They seem to manage most things if they really want in. I guess it’s lucky for most of us that they are too lazy to really fight for long in MOST cases.

Kristel2400-- WOW. Good info and yeah.. Polar Bears have such limited food options that if they get the chance you are on the menu!!!

Okie Mom-- YEA!!!!! Congratulation on the Sailor Call!!! You made it!!!
    1 down 5 to go!!

  • Katharine

    Yay Okie!!!!

  • Shanny

Because you guys can appreciate it lol my kid just sent me video of him and his roommates singing Rock You Like a Hurricane!  Lol I’m dying here

  • VintageGal

Will definitely keep those who may affected by this hurricane in my prayers.

Favorite Van Halen songs - Why Can’t This Be Love and Feel your Love tonight

Favorite Van Halen solo!  - ERUPTION pre-You Really Got Me

    RIP Eddie!!

OKIE MOM - Bravo Zulu Sailor!! Congratulations!!

  • VintageGal

HA! Shanny! I can totally appreciate that! That’s hysterical! \m/ They have a great sense of humor LOL
  • belovedbyHim

Shanny-- At least they can laugh about it!!

Good evening everyone!! I have been reading the post but just now able to reply, but I forgot to take notes!!

LBF - I often have 2 - 3 tabs of N4M open at once so I can switch back and forth to add links, etc. -  I think #4 is making up for all the lost time with #1-3. I am sure there are a few moms wishing they had as many calls!!

Shanny - the recipe looks yummy!, Glad you finally received the corrected diploma. As mentioned, I would get a copy of it to the recruiter and keep another copy of it handy for the future. The video from your sailor sounds hilarious. I am going to have to try out your caramel dip! - Prayers also!!

I have enjoyed all the bear stories and pictures, but I laughed at BelovedbyHim's picture because that is the way we felt at Yellowstone. - No bears!

    Kristel2400 - I hope I don't have to use your bear rules!

OkieMom - Bravo Zulu!! Congratulations to your new sailor!!

Katharine - Yeah a letter!!  And what a thoughtful son!! A present for his Dad.

VintageGal - Hopefully you will get a letter from your SR this week, if he was able to write during ROM. That would be wonderful if he ended up in LBF's SRs Div.

Velvetenor - I appreciate you stopping by and sharing your encouragement.

All the best to all of our other members who are waiting for their sailor calls. Be sure to pop on and let us know.

It is good to hear from all of our members, even it if is just to say - "Hi, I am here, just busy!" We understand, we just want to make sure you are staying encouraged, have your questions answered, and hopefully a good laugh now and again.

  • C'sMom

LadyBluefire:  so exciting that you got another call!  I'd have answered the same way.  Lol!  I love hearing what they are doing, but it always leads me to more questions.  What is thr Pearl Harbor?  And what is torpedoing and grenading?  And how do you find out this stuff and know what it ,eans?

B'sNuke Mom: you are a wealth of information!  Thanks again for answering one of my questions.

  • belovedbyHim

Confession-- I wrote that note and left it at the Front desk at The Lodge in YS when my daughter worked there as a joke for her.  She normally emptied those and read them first, However that day she had asked for the day off to go exploring with us as a surprise.  By the time we got back that night it was trending, and by the time we got home 48 hours later it had gone viral!  I still laugh when I see it in the "wild"!!

  • Chipmunk

C'sMom2020 - She has me stumped on those as well!

  • MyKidsMom

C’sMom2020 - The Pearl Harbor is Ship 1, where the SRs sleep during P days., according to the information on Ship/Division—How it Works. I don’t know about torpedoing and grenading.

  • Chipmunk

Since I started the day off on a funny note, I guess I will end it on a more serious one. Or maybe I should say I am just being practical.

Everyone have a wonderful, restful evening!  So good to hear the good news and prayers for those needs that were shared.

  • LadyBluefire

Csmom - throwing torpedoes and grenades is where when they are marching they say a certain cadence when they pass by another division -

    Ready

    Throw

    Grenades

Then on the seventh left foot they unplug and throw at the division and say weeeoooooo

I know this because my #2 was telling me that they did it when he was at boot camp.

  • LadyBluefire

I'll get back to everyone else - hubby is pulling me away for Netflix!

  • VintageGal

Chipmunk- Have a good evening :)

    LadyBlueFire- that’s so cool!
What show on Netflix?! (Of course you could wait until tomorrow to respond LOL We’re about to settle in for Shitt’s Creek!

    Welcome KarenMarie!
  • partyofseven

    Hey Ladies,

VintageGal- I was watching Ghost Ship. Lol Enjoy your show.

It was a great day ladies. Thanks for all the laughs and all those adorable bear pictures. They were awesome!!!

MyKidsMom- It's good to see you on here. It won't be long now. Hope your doing well.  :)

LBF- Thanks for the little lesson. I didn't know what they was either. Hope  your movie on netflix was good.  :)

Prayers for the areas that are going to get hit by the hurricane and for all of our Sailors and their families and everyone to be safe out there.

Thanks Chipmunk- Have a good evening.

It's getting closer ladies. I am so thankful for all the calls and letters that were received and that we have a Sailor in the house. It has been a great day!!!

God bless, be safe out there and stay healthy.

  • partyofseven

Shanny- Hope your evening went well. And didn't I read earlier that you heard from your Sailor again? I'm glad he's enjoying himself.

Tell them to battle down the hatches during this weather. :)

  • Chipmunk

    Good Morning everyone!!

I would like to welcome Mindy to our group as well. Be sure to come post and introduce yourself. For our newest members, please feel free to come join in the conversations. Yesterday was a light-hearted day! Most of these ladies are just like you, waiting at home for their letters and phone calls to come. Some have had no communication for a long time due to mail issues, or such. Some have sent multiple children off to BC this year!

Sharing your feelings, thoughts and questions is how we get to know each other and we want you to feel welcome. It can seem intimidating at first, so I just wanted to encourage you to post and know that you are among friends.

  • Chipmunk

MyKidsMom - Thanks for replying to C'sMom2020 - I found out something new. If I have read that page, it was some time ago. As I have shared before, I did not find this site until about four days before my son's PIR over three years ago. I read up on most of the information about PIR and sailors flying to their A school. Then my son's situation after PIR, waiting for his orders to be approved, was a totally different scenario than communicated. I have shared on and off in this group now since that time, primarily to watch for those who might have future sailors going through the Nuke pipeline. Or just any with sailors flying to their A school, so I could bump my discussion back into the queue about what PIR might look like for those flying out - but with the new normal where sailors are not flying commercially that is not needed. Instead, I just do what I can to help lighten the load of both the site and group admins with my posts and comments.

  • Chipmunk

VintageGal - Enjoy your coffee time this morning!! Your cookies sounded yummy yesterday!

  • Okie Mom

Welcome to all our new moms! This is a great site for information and support during your SRs Navy career from bootcamp to the fleet. Mr SR will be graduating Thursday and these ladies have been wonderful!

THANK YOU to all those who have helped me along the bootcamp journey and I look forward to being here during the rest of my sailor’s time in the Navy.

I also want to thank everyone for the congrats to my sailor!!! Hooyah! So excited and happy for her! She said this has been the most stressful and challenging time in her life but she also enjoyed it all at the same time.

To all the moms waiting on calls and letters, they are coming! It just takes time and it seems like an eternity before you hear from them but no news is good news! Hang in there!

I hope everyone has a great day!!!

  • Chipmunk

Okie Mom - May you have a wonderful day as well!! I am sure you all are on cloud nine!

  • LadyBluefire

Katharine - any luck on carnivore caramel? Since gelatin is made from the bones/tendons/ligaments of cows or pigs, maybe you tweak that for your “caramel”
How sweet is your puppy!? Worried about you guys and not getting letters!

Shanny - prayers for Delta to delta course! And how funny your son is. Hurricanes aren’t that exciting to be in. Lots of wind and rain. I have had more damage just from heavy rains from the hurricane than the wind here inland. Crazy!

BBH - that is too funny your daughter did not work that day, lol. That is too cool it went viral! We have video of a bear stomping on our “bear can” but now it is behind brick they can;t get it out nor open it.

Vintage - currently we are watching The Blacklist. Can’t wait for The 100 to come back this year. I finally worked my husband into watching Sugar Rush and Nailed It but we are all caught up. He won;t go for the Great British Baking Show. Did your son call you with his new division?

Party - glad I could share new stuff with you “seasoned” moms. I am not 100% sure on torpedoes - when I can ask my #2 I will or maybe #3 would know. #1 did not know torpedoes, only grenades.

Good morning everyone. Welcome all you newcomers - you have come to the right place!

  • partyofseven

Good Morning ladies and welcome to all of our new moms,

Welcome Mindy, KarenMarie, PROUDMOM2020 we are glad you are here. Feel free to post when you are ready. We all help each other out.

Okie Mom- Thank you for posting and sharing. You are very welcome. Have a great day as well!!

One more day closer to PIR ladies whoo hoo. I am getting excited for you ladies.   :)

Shanny- Hope your feeling better this morning.

  • Northwoodsmom

Velvetenor, gosh he is huge. Just doing his morning walk? Here is proof they come close to your door.

  • Northwoodsmom

Velvetenor, that is a huge bear just strolling on his morning walk. Yes they do get close to the door!

  • Shanny

    Good morning ladies!!!

No text this morning so looks like maybe they are relaxing a bit on the hurricane crazy. It looks like the storm may be shifting more to the west and Pensacola is out of the cone. I am sure he will be all like man I packed all that in my seabag for nothing as they blast some disappointed music I am sure. But as we all know, hurricanes have their own plan so who knows.

Sorry haven't been awake long enough for funny stories yet...  ok so awake for 4 hours but who's counting.

LBF:  he really wants to go outside in the high winds with an American flag. The boy is nuts. He has always been fascinated by the weather. And in his kindergarten graduation they asked each kid what they wanted to be when they grew up...  he said a storm chaser. He always goes outside to watch storms roll in or watch the lightning. A benefit of living in the middle of no where you can watch it all happen.

    WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!!!

  • Shanny

Oh my the bears are insane!!  I saw wildlife this morning...  there was a rabbit sitting by the door.  A black squirrel in the front yard and a red squirrel running along the top of the neighbor's fence. And my dog wanted to "play" with them all.

  • LadyBluefire

I asked my son about torpedoes.

Torpedoes - When you are marching there is 1st  rank, 2nd rank, 3rd rank from L to R. When they call launch torpedoes the left rank does a maneuver and opens up to the left and the right rank moves to the right while the middle rank stays stationary then 2 road guards run through each rank in a figure 8 motion and then the explosion is them (road guards) doing jumping jacks.

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning All, Happy Wednesday! Hump Day! Hoping you all started your Morning with coffee and ready to go.

Looking at the pictures of these bears they look like they are getting bigger and to close for comfort for me, YIKES! Please stay safe as winter is coming shouldn't they be sleeping soon? LOL! Hope you all have a fabulous Day!

  • Phoenixmom

    PartyofSeven's scripture for the day:

  • Phoenixmom

I leave a Prayer for scripture Below:

Heavenly Father, Help me to not be like others, who use their words like sharp swords, cutting and wounding the people around them. I do not want to spread lies, rumors or gossip. I Pray that my words would be healing and not hurting. I want to speak words that are seasoned full of salt and full of Grace. Words that give Life, Not take it. I want my words to be filled with truth and light. I know this will take self control and obedience on my part. I pray that you would renew my mind, strengthen my Spirit and help me to live out Proverbs 12:18 in my Life. Father, use me to speak soothing words of kindness and comfort, Use me to speak uplifting words of Encouragement. Use me to speak words of Love and Peace.

    In Jesus Name, AMEN!
