Welcome to all the newcomers! I hope you will post and say hi and ask any questions that you may have. We are here to help you!

My son graduated BC at the end of Jan 2020 and is now in Nuke school in SC, but I like to hang around this forum and answer questions, share stories, and encourage everyone whose SRs are still in BC.

I'm also fascinated to hear about how different BC is in this time of COVID than it was before. You BC moms are dealing with so much more stress and unknowns than we had to deal with, and I applaud all of you for your strength, flexibility, and resilience! Bravo Zulu! (Navy-speak for job well done!)

PS - Northwoodsmom - Wow, nice bear! I'm OK with them getting that close only when I am safely inside and watching them from behind solid glass! LOL! 

I saw this in one of my facebook groups – “if you have Verizon as your phone carrier they have rolled out a program that automatically takes the Unknown and Potential Spam calls and sends them to your voicemail.  This has already been placed on your account.  You can call Verizon or use the My Verizon app to opt out of this services.  If you have the app you can go to Contact Us and choose We’ll Call You and put Other as reason and choose Call Me as soon as possible.” 

This is especially important if you have an SR in bootcamp or a sailor deployed.  You don’t want to miss any calls!

I don't know about other carriers but I can vouch for this happening with Verizon as I have Verizon.

I love all the bear stories.  The most I get are raccoons, and I only see their poop.  I used to get a small squirrel or two, but with all the tree damage, their "highway" is down.  I can still hear them though.  I get a lot of big Western crows and magpies.  They live a block over in the cemetery.  Most of the neighbors have dogs, so not a lot of wildlife.  If I were a bit further up the slope, there's cougars now and then,  and deer.  

Shanny, I know a Hurricane Party when I hear about one!  We used to have Typhoon Parties in Japan and Diego Garcia.  Unfortunately, I often was considered "essential", which meant staying at work until the All Clear passed.  Slept on the floor behind the equipment racks and ate whatever they brought us, or we had stashed in the ET shop. 

Oh, a little tidbit about being an undesignated seaman, specifically S-PACT: sometimes they stand duty on the bridge and get to drive the ship.  Someone has to, and out at sea, it is pretty straightforward (ha).  So there's that.  Oh, there's senior personnel on duty too, but yes, a qualified unrated E-3 can drive a warship.  

Phoenixmom- Thank you for our scripture. It would not post for me this morning. It goes along with our verse yesterday. I thought that was neat.

Shanny- That's pretty exciting thou and scary. We get some serious thunder and lightening storms out here.

Anti M- I know the bears I see the most are at the zoo. Sometimes when we go camping we might see mountain lions or bob cats are pretty popular out here.

PhoenixMom thank you for the much needed prayer today. I am just frustrated with the lack of instruction here at school, I need to hold my tongue. Any way I really needed that prayer.

B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN I have Verizon but my phone allows for spam or potential scam calls comes thru on my phone I guess it depends on how you have your phone set up but we all have Verizon including my son. Thanks for sharing I will keep this in mind in case this happens to me.

NorthwoodsMom I can relate many a days, I really need to study that scripture, because I can have a mouth at times. then I feel really bad.......So I can relate! So funny that I am taking courses on Conflict, how to deal with people that like conflict and how I can handle when someone pushes my Buttons.

Phoenixmom - I updated my Verizon to the latest IOS of 14 and after that I noticed that calls are being automatically sent to voicemail or telling me about the call "after" the call happened if my phone thinks it might be spam.

B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN That is strange, My phone will let it ring and if I don't answer after it hangs up I have the option to report it and the number. very crazy, But thank you for the information good to know!

PartyofSeven Yes online on linkedin, it is called improving your conflict competence and another was Teamwork foundations as you know Teamwork is what it's about but as we know it can be hard for some and come easy to others. These two were really good trainings.

B’sNukeMoM - Thank you for letting us know about Verizon. Do you know if that is for landline, mobile, or both?

MyKidsMom - I only know of this for mobile.  We just got rid of our landline last month (but it wasn't Verizon).  Maybe someone else will chime in with more info.

They have arrived!!!  His pictures were just delivered!  I am so glad he chose the serious pose. He hates smiling for pictures and it is perfect!  I texted him and told him they arrived and asked what I’m supposed to do with 5 8x10s. He’s like why do you have 5?  I thought the package had 1?  I said you know there are like 40 pictures here right?  He said..  I may have been sleep deprived when I ordered them lol

Shanny - You have a picture for each room of your house now!!

Well, I won’t get the “I’m a Sailor” call this week. My SR called this afternoon to tell us that he has been set back three weeks because he didn’t pass the run. 

MyKidsMom-- I'm so sorry!! The good news is that he will be given another chance! 

Shanny- yay!! Pictures are the best. Enjoy them. I have mine in 2 different rooms. Lol

MyKidsMom- I am so sorry. He will get another chance thou. Keep encouraging him if u get another call or if u want to send him a quick letter. Big hugs to you!!!

MyKidsMom - Well that is disappointing, but more so for your SR..All of us are cheering him on from the sidelines and encouraging him to succeed!! 

MyKidsMom, he won't be alone. I remember my son telling me when he was struggling with push-ups that the had someone working with him helping him. They will do the same for your son, someone will run with him and try to set a pace for him. The Navy doesn't want anyone to fail and your son is showing them that he has it in him to do the run. They won't give up on him if he doesn't give up on himself. I will be praying for him that gives him the stamina he needs to finish.

My posts have been very few and scattered, mainly to let you know that I try to read everything, and I pray for everything and everyone.  I think I read some place that the unofficial mottos of the Navy are: "Semper Fortis" (Always Strong) and "Semper Gumby"  (Always Flexible). When I found this rubber figurine, I bought it!!

Good evening ladies! It’s been a long day... tomorrow morning with my coffee I’ll have to catch up on the news of the day. I got a call from my son around 8:15 PST!! He only had a minute to tell us his new address. I don’t think he got any of our letters last week which I’m super bummed about. But I’ll send him a quick letter to his new address letting him know there’s mail on the way. I don’t want him to think that we weren’t sending him things.

VintageGal - I am glad you at least had a phone call to get his new address!! I don't know if that is always the case. Sorry to hear he did not rec'v your letters. Enjoy your morning coffee!

MaterNauta - I love your Gumby!!! He is so cute and yes - Semper Fortis, Semper Gumby!!

Northwoodsmom - Thank you for sharing your son's story. It gives encouragement to others. Regarding your post yesterday about keeping your tongue quiet. I think that is a struggle many of us have, and especially right now there are so many things that "agitate" me and I can't do anything about them. It does help me to be reminded as well to think on those things that are pure and lovely, and find the blessings where they can be found and pray for the grace and peace when I can't change anything, but to have the wisdom to know where I can do some good for the day. You may see lack in areas at work, but remember the good you do and like I said before the smile and air high fives to the kiddos. Decorate your area if you can and remind them that they are loved!

I won't be on much during the day, but I have been checking in periodically.

VintageGal- I am sorry he did not receive your letters. Ugh!! That is one thing we can't control thou I know it's hard and try not to be to sad you did send him letters for what ever reason they just didn't make it to him yet. 

Did you make copies of them? I'm glad you got a phone call with the new address so that was good.  :)

Good Morning Folks Happy Friday eve! (Thursday)! Week is almost over and we will be getting some nice weather here in Phoenix! YAY! no rain which is needed but I will take 98 degrees over 105 any day. Nights have been very nice and mornings as well!

Hope you all got a great start to your Morning maybe some coffee/Danish or breakfast!

I just want to say, I love informed delivery!  Getting two pieces of mail from our SR today.  One is a reply to my sandbox letter.  The other is most likely the questionnaire I sent him.  I can tell because it's in the envelope I self addressed.  I hope he liked the questionnaire.  Looking forward to reading it.  I don't want to be greedy, but I also hope he enclosed a letter!  Lol

Mykidsmom, I failed my initial run, although the rules were different then, they worked with me and someone always ran with me.  I passed when it mattered.  Your SR has got this, just taking the long way round.

Good Morning Mrs. Anti M, glad to see you on here, been thinking of you. I am good, spoke to radiation Dr. said Radiation did what it needed to do, just worried about the rash and dryness been putting Vaseline around it hopefully it gets better. Other than that I've been on a salad and soft food diet it you want to call it a diet I just don't eat basically. and I'm doing ok. Hope your Home is coming along. Getting ready to redo my Kitchen. a kitchen makeover......much needed!

Good afternoon ladies, 

checking in and making sure everyone’s having a great day. One more day till the weekend! still haven’t caught up on yesterday‘s conversation. 

Partyofseven- so happy to get our call last night! Unfortunately I didn’t make copies of the letters. I wrote him an SB letter this morning and let him know that there are a couple SB letters that say they were delivered and like six envelopes that were mailed to him during ROM. I’m thinking as long as he knows that we were writing him and sending him things he’ll feel a little better. He did sound great which makes me so happy!! 

My SR just got out of ROM and he’s in division 424. Does anyone else have the same division? 

chipmunk - thanks for the well wishes! It was so great to hear his voice! I saw Waukegan Illinois 847 and about lost my mind!! :)

Hi everyone!!  I am trying to catch up. I am on online school duty today. The girls’ grandfather had an appointment today so I am making sure the three of them get their stuff done and don’t kill each other. I have driven one to band practice, one to the library, have to go pick up the one at band practice and drop the other at softball pitching lessons...  I knew there was a reason I only had one!!  
hope everyone is having a great day!  Going to crack the whip on math homework after I pick the first one back up. The youngest said her mom helps her with math but I’d rather she just get it done!!
