Informed delivery said that we would had two letters today and the mail hasn’t come yet... I’m about to lose my ever loving mind!
On a happier note my son had a soccer game tonight and got three goals and one assist!! He is on cloud nine!!
  • kim's husband Troy

Electronics - Our SR said he was able to have his device during initial ROM but it was taken upon arrival at GL before starting P-days. It wasn't a brand name device. Only had classic old arcade games. He did say it came in very handy!!

Voting - Our SR requested an absentee ballot before shipping out and we have forwarded it to him at his current BC address. Although our post office wouldn't allow us to send it with an altered recipient address. We had to place it in another envelope to forward it. We did not open the packet from the clerk's  office for fear they wouldn't allow it if opened.

So nice to see some of you received letters, Yay!!!

Good Morning Ladies and welcome to all of our new moms,

Another day closer to PIR. Yay for everyone that received calls and letters the last couple of days. Keep those phones with you at all times and those ringers on loud.

May more calls and letters come today.

Kim- Good Morning and thanks for sharing. I was just being curious cause so far it seems like bc and some of the bases are doing ROM the same so far. It will be interesting to see how it works out. It's exciting to see and hear that our young people are wanting to vote. This is a good thing.

    C'sMom- Good Morning.

VintageGal- Good Morning and kudos to your son for his assist and his goals. That was great.

DsMom2020- Good Morning- I hear you about being patience. The Navy teaches that to us as well to be patient and go with the flow.  :)

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions someone will answer.

    Psalm 118:24

  • Brandonsmom

    Good morning ladies!

Today is the 14th day of my son's quarantine period. So I've got my phone glued to me waiting for the scripted phone call. I miss his voice and being able to pick up the phone and call him whenever I wanted to. The past 14 days seemed like 2 months.....

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning Brandonsmom - As I have gathered from other comments - the scripted call is still only coming after the SRs arrive in GL. They box up their things there and then are issued new stuff before going to Ft. McCoy for their ROM. Maybe some of those whose kids have been through the process recently can let you know if they had a phone call or not once they were out of quarantine, but I doubt it.

Any future calls should be coming from the pay phones using their calling cards and so be sure to answer all calls and the connection is not always great so don't just assume it is a spam call until you have verified that it is not your SR before hanging up.  The form letter with their address has not been coming until about 4 - 5 weeks after they left for BC.  YES it has been that long and some of the ladies on here currently have their own stories they have shared about the delays with letters.

Hang in there, and feel free to come share, cry, vent, or just tell about your day and what you are doing to help you pass the time.

  • Chipmunk

MaterNauta - What lovely candles!! Thanks for sharing!

  • Anti M

Mailing anything to a base barracks or to an A school address is a dismal process. There's a mail room and it is always overloaded, and somehow not close to where the sailors live. Even packages and envelopes which require signatures are problematic, as the sailors have to go to the mail room during  its business hours, and those are usually as inconvenient as possible.

Shanny, that's amazing about your dad.  My husband had a sore shoulder over the summer, then they thought he had pneumonia.  He only had three weeks after he was diagnosed with lung cancer, no time to even begin anything like chemo.  It just went so fast.

  • LadyBluefire

Jennifer - my son went to ROM with nothing. We thought he was going to Ft McCoy (there is no time for electronics there as they try and do boot camp stuff there) but he went to GWL and he had a TV to watch. He spent his days studying his START guide and doing w/e physical activity he could in his room. He also had actual conversations with his roommates.  Boot camp was a good electronic detox for my kids...

Vintage - kudos to your little guy on his soccer game! I was driving home from the grocery store with my music on full blast when Def Leppard’s “Rocket” came on and I immediately thought of you! So I then rolled my windows down so everyone could enjoy the music, lol!

Brandonsmom - hate to burst your bubble but it is not common for them to call after the initial 14 day ROM. I did not hear my last 2 SRs voices til 5-6 weeks after the initial “I’m here!” call. They both did a 14 day ROM. 7/9 ship 8/15 call. 8/27 ship and 10/4 was the scheduled call. He called a week earlier but that was a reward call for his division.

I must not be getting all the e mails. I did not see one about steak and lobster or Shanny’s dad’s cancer. Hmm are y’all chatting in the cool kids main room again? Lol

Anti M - how awful how quick everything happened for your husband..

So happy to hear all the calls and letters.

Phoenix - can’t wait to see photos of your new kitchen!!!

Well, I am almost done in my kitchen - I endured a headache from the fumes of “self cleaning” my oven last night and now I must go wipe it out.

Good morning everyone - I hope your “I’m a  sailor” calls trickle in today!

  • C'sMom

I guess we will just have to wait and see how and if our SR can vote.  His sister, in a letter, was saying how it was too bad he can't see any of the debates and wondered how he would vote.  He responded in a letter that he could vote but obviously couldn't see any of the debates.  So maybe he knows how it works, we just don't.  I just feel like I dropped the ball with this for him.  He will probably have just gotten to A school if he leave the day after graduation like we were told he would.

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning all Happy Wednesday! I almost put Tuesday UGH! forgetful these days, LOL! Hoping you Beautiful Moms and Admins are having a great start to your Day! Ready to get this day over and it just began LOL!.

I will have to put before and after pics up so you can see what a difference it will be. I picked out some Light Grey cabinets with dark fixtures my countertop will be Quartz Black with a splash of white, a Black stainless steel sink my Backsplash will be white, my stove is a convection air fry electric range stainless steel black. Having some demolishing done to the walls, as right now I have red brick in my cooking area so that will be replaced. my Island hood is stainless steel with glass led lights. as of right now I just have a vented under the range hood. My countertops will extend about 12 inches to put a few bar stools, looking for a  5 seat round table to make room so it will make a huge difference. this is the first for me as I lived in my home for 26 yrs. I am totally excited as is my Family to see the outcome of this big project.

Anti M thank You for sharing this great News. if no one knows Mrs. Anti M helps out on Great Lakes A School she was a godsend to me when my Son was in A school, I know when I sent Packages to my Son he wouldn't be able to pick up right away due to school and some night school ands I believe on the weekends they were closed or he had duty. but eventually they will pick up their packages when time permits.

    Have a great Day all!

  • Phoenixmom

A Prayer for the scripture Below:

    Heavenly Father,

Thank you for giving us another Day of Life. Thank You for pouring out Blessings all around us. May our Hearts be rejoicing in everything we do today. I/we are Grateful, Happy and Blessed. Help me/us to be a Blessing to others, so they can experience your Love. In Jesus Name I Pray, AMEN!

  • Phoenixmom

It is with a sad Heart that I just heard of one of our Sailors has passed who is on the TR. Please Pray for this Family as I know they must be going through a difficult time.

Dear Lord, console those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Let them be comforted in the remembrance of Your promises. Give to those who mourn, peace, in the midst of their tears. You are the Resurrection and the Life! We know and believe this! In Your Name, Amen!

  • kim's husband Troy

Brandonsmom - For Our SR who shipped from MEPS on 9/1 we didn't get a call until day 40. On 9/1 we received the "I'm here call". Based on this group some with the same PIR date earned calls a week before ours so hopefully you hear from him between day 33-40. Did you get the initial call from his cell phone the night he left? Be strong and remember No News is Good News!

So sad to hear of a sailors passing!

  • Phoenixmom

For those that would like to read article it is on USNI News.

Very sad and I just don't understand why? and I guess we never will.

  • LadyBluefire

Csmom - you can’t count on them going to A school the next day. I know there is a way they can have the form e-mailed to them but they need access to a printer to print it out.

Phoenixmom - your kitchen sounds so pretty.

Aww, prayers to the sailor’s family from the TR. It is never easy to lose a loved one..and at such difficult times. :(

  • MaterNauta

Katharine:  I seriously wondered if we would have to get the posse out again!!!  So happy for you!!!

  • VintageGal

    Good Morning everyone <3

CONGRATULATIONS KATHARINE AND MATERNAUTA!!!! BRAVO ZULU SAILOR!!

THIS IS SO EXCITING!! KATHARINE ~ your communication is going to get A WHOLE LOT BETTER NOW!! WOOHOO!!!

It's with a heavy heart hearing that we have lost one of our Navy's Sailors. Prayers go out to his loved ones.

Partyofseven- thank you for the beautiful verse. The picture behind is so beautiful. Parent teacher conferences today so no classes. Working on a list of things to do for my teacher. Have the tunes on and have my son hanging with me while he's in his classes. I hope you have a great day!

Ladybluefire- Rock on! That's my kind of drive!

Shanny- I don't why but I missed your post about your dad. I'm so glad to hear of his remission! That is wonderful! I hope your mom has more good days then bad.

A man missing out on steak and lobster is an unfair situation!!

C'smom- I would think that with all these years of Bootcamp they would have a system with how they handle these recruits being able to vote. I really hope they do anyhow.

Pheonixmom- Thank you for the beautiful prayers.

Anti M- I'm so sorry to hear of how quickly your dear husband was taken from you way to soon. I hope your days can be filled with joy in his memory.

My love to you all. Hope you all have good day.

  • VintageGal

Brandonsmom- Hi! Did you happen to get a call from him the day he arrived saying - he was there and safe and that he'd call you in three to four weeks? Maybe they're doing things differently IDK either way I hope you hear something soon. I didn't get a call after the initial first night call until about 28 days after he arrived. - long winded, sorry!

    Welcome! Share with us anytime!

  • Phoenixmom

Katherine you made me laugh, apples at the post office LOL!

  • VintageGal

Katharine and Shanny - Navy mom posse unite! My mail that used to come at noon (our wonderful postman retired as well) doesn’t come until after 4:00 now and last night it didn’t show up until 8:15 PM! I’m about ready to get a job at the post office so I can regulate!! Lol Although I’ll feel really bad if they’re really short staffed and there’s a problem :-/ But you know how we women are... if it’s not getting done right we’ll just do it ourselves!!
  • Phoenixmom

For those interested My Son and his Posse would go to the USO they have fun things for them to do. I still get these Emails. for those at GL A school.

    <illinoisevents@uso.org>

  • Phoenixmom

VintageGal that was my Motto for home. If it cant be done right, I might as well do it myself! LOL!

  • VintageGal

Pheonixmom- Seriously! I’m sure you all can relate... I’m all for teachable moments and preparing them for adulthood and responsibilities but... ON OCCASION do you know how glad I am to have everybody out of the house on a Saturday afternoon so I can clean the house on my own and know that it’s getting done right?! Lol
  • Northwoodsmom

Katherine and MaterNauta, just wanted to chime in with my congratulations. So very happy for both of and grateful to your Sailors. Yay for better communication now. Enjoy and may our Loving Lord keep them safely in his protection.

  • Phoenixmom

Yes I Love to be home by myself blasting the music and cleaning, I do that on Fridays when I get home from work. I shower throw on some lounge clothes and go at it. I do it on thurs. or fri. so I can have the weekend to myself. This weekend I will be turning 55 yrs. I still feel young at heart, and can do most of what a young person can do, I push myself though at times! LOL depends on how tired I feel, but most the times I'm running with my Grandkids. swimming playing basketball walking the park or zoo with them.

  • NewMilmom

Chipmunk: Thanks for the info. you posted on calls. Hubby received the scripted call when he arrived to Chicago 3wks ago today.  We are praying & hoping they all got to proceed to bootcamp from ROM after the 2 week mark.  Had hoped for another call but, guess not.   Also, our recruit didn't take a phone card so guess no further contact will be forthcoming from what I gathered from your note.  I didn't find this site until after he flew out unfortunately.

It has only been 3 weeks since he left but, today I am on the weepy side again...trying to get through today at work with no tears as missing his calls, his texts and just having him home.

Thanks everyone for sharing information as some of us new Military Moms try to figure it out & prayers to all.

  • LadyBluefire

Yay for sailors in the house! Woot woot!

Katharine - posse is ready to saddle up and toss apples if need be!

Vintage - I feel ya. Confession here - I have not cooked or cleaned my kitchen in 6 years. Our oldest 4 rotated through (starting at 16) and while they did a decent job they did not do it the way I wanted - but they were learning the importance of how to cook and how vital a clean kitchen is to our health. Now my little one is too young I am back in the saddle and it feels better having it done my way.  Sometimes the battle to have it done precisely my way was not worth it. It was getting done. I clean during the early morning. (that is late morning for most, lol!) I am supposed to only do 15 mins a day in the zone I am in but I like to get it all done early part of the week and just chill - just cleaning up after breakfast, lunch and dinner is enough! Having weekends free to enjoy family time is nice.

    Phoenix - happy birthday!!!!

As I am copying and pasting I see that a post is here that has not made it to my inbox and it is 7 mins old!

Welcome NewMilmom!!! They will be told to buy a phone card at the NEX so do not fret you WILL get a call when they make calls home!!!! They are given $150 NEX card to spend so don;t worry. :)

  • NewMilmom

LadyBluefire - Bless you!!! Thank you so very much for the information.

  • LadyBluefire

NewMilMom - well that message of yours made it to my inbox, lol. Did you change your name? With your old name having your Son's name in it?

and you're most welcome. There is enough to fret about to fret about things you don;t need to, lol.

  • Phoenixmom

LadyBlueFire Thank You Ma'am, I appreciate it!

  • kim's husband Troy

Congrats to the newest sailors and their families. Way to go!!!

  • Phoenixmom

just read the News that Texas and Georgia are having glitches as the voting. Very long lines and frustration settling in. Virginia's online voting went down. website crashed. What a mess it will be. I do early ballot voting,  hoping it gets to where its needed and counted for.

  • Correnza

Has anyone hea5d fr8m there kid
  • Anti M

I just filled out my ballot this morning.  Our state has a very good website where I could look at all the proposed amendments to the state constitution.  There's some very good ones, and a few not so great.  I could also look at each local candidate.  Some of the lower offices had slim pickings...

  • Phoenixmom

That's Great Anti M, I know my Ballot was picked up yesterday.

  • Phoenixmom

Correnza what are you trying to find out? I'm unsure how to help you?

  • NewMilmom

LadyBluefire - no I didn't change anything. Never posted names...weird. But glad it reached you. Thank you.

  • DsMom2020
