Luci he would know who to contact, but this is the Norm right now for covid, but to be forgotten is nonsense this shouldn't of happened but not unusual. tell him to get online and see if he received any feedback everyone should have a sponsor or have someone they have to contact. does he still have info on his commander from A school I would start with contacting that person as well maybe they can find out for him. So sorry this is happening to your Son and to your Family!

PhoenixMom, please can I send mine too. My husband dislikes spicy food so I never cooked any of it but when ever we got a chance to go to a restaurant the kids wanted to do Mexican. My son loves spicy food when I called him Thanksgiving he was eating a quesadilla. I usually eat fajitas because I am more a vegetable eater and they load them with them. I am told though that the restaurant food isn't authenic so I am sure yours are much better.

Lucy with the quarantine ending on the holiday week that is probably why the delay, hopefully today they will get him out of ROM but then that's the Navy. If your on time your late but their time is whenever it happens. Seems unfair but that's the way it has been rolling for years. Prayers he hears something soon.

NorthWoodsMom the more the Merrier! You know my Husband always said a Guy should always learn to cook, so that way they can remain single or they wouldn't starve without a woman. I socked him for that and he laughed. But I have to say My Husband was a Great cook and would make his food look so pretty didn't know whether to take a picture or eat it. His favorite was Italian food, he would make this pasta with clams and white wine shallots mmmmmm, MISSING THAT!

PhoenixMom how Blessed you were to have such a good cook, I wouldn't eat anything my husband would attempt to cook. He puts things together that really ought not to be in the same pan. My kids begged me if I went anywhere to buy pizza because they hated his cooking. He would make things like spaghetti omelets, poor kids.

Oh My! NorthWoodsMom I would ask for Pizza too! LOL!

Lucy: did he have contact with anyone that explained to him where to go when he first arrived at the duty station and where to go for quarantine? If he did, maybe he can contact that person. Any information or phone numbers maybe an email address on his orders? I’m just guessing since I haven’t been through this yet...
My son graduates A School this week so we haven’t don’t any of this yet... but he does have a sponsor he talks to weekly on his ship.

DallasNavyMom:. If I am counting correctly, he should be starting p-days. So he will be doing all of his in processing medical checks, shots, dental, paperwork!!! Don’t be surprised if you get a call for more information-they may need it for medical or security clearance. It will be a very short specific call telling you exactly what they need and how to get it to the correct person. So answer all calls even from strange numbers! (I didn’t get this call but some do). WELCOME!!! We are here for you... we will laugh with you, cry with you and get angry with you if needed!!! I hope someone can answer your question more specifically than I can. I heard a rumor some things have changed again on the timing of things so I don’t want to be wrong!!!

Luci,
I am not sure what your son's particular program is but there should be a chief assigned to them. Also have you looked up his ship and found out who the ombudsman might be. You can have him try contacting them.
I have to be honest, I would start contacting Base Command and or see if you can get ahold of a chaplain. We are getting ready to have family dinner or I would say you could send me a private message and I would look up what I could. But doing Google search online can help you locate BASE information!! So sorry to hear they were forgotten food!!

Shanny - yep the Panhandle can get pretty cold. Even further south we have had snow in the past - it did not last long but it was there! I like something at a restaurant and I stick with it. My husband turned me on to spicy food and shrimp. A diet I went on years ago got me into eating raw onions (red ones, in salads) and now I will even eat them on hamburgers and hot dogs now.
Luci - oh my! I am aghast he does not have a sponsor? Anyone going to any duty station should have a sponsor in his/her rate. I know it took a while of emailing back and forth for my #3 to get a sponsor. He needs to figure out who his CO is and reach out to them…
Phoenix - a big pat on the back at all your purging! ALl my kids know how to cook. Always told the boys girls like a man who can cook, lol.
DallasNavyMom - not much of a transition - just leave ROM, arrive to RTC, do the moment of truth and start processing days..

LadyBluefire:. When he texted me about the freeze warning he was all like this isn’t fair!!! Said he was in Florida to escape it. So I told him that is just the Navy’s way of preparing you to head north!
My sailor loves to grill and smoke meats. He will help with indoor cooking but if he is cooking he prefers the grill or all day smoking. He makes his own BBQ sauce for his ribs and adds jalapeños to it. I don’t like ribs so I can’t tell you my opinion but everyone else says they are some of the best they have had. He did a couple of pork shoulders and made pulled pork for a party my brother had. He made queso in the smoker too

PhoenixMom: my “ex” is a great cook. He cooked every day for us. And only made one thing I didn’t care for... lemon chicken. He used wayyy too much lemon. Even he took one bite and said he wasn’t letting me eat that and threw it all in the trash. We had homemade pizza instead. He taught my son how to use the smoker. I can’t take credit for that. But for his 16th birthday he used his birthday money to buy the smoker and a lot of meat to practice with.

Shanny, really you have to find a place to try tamales, they're amazing. Hard to fin din restaurants, they are best homemade. There used to be a guy who who come to the house with his wife's tamales, a dozen for $10. Not since Covid though. I see them on FB Marketplace, but can't go get them.
Phoenixmom, have you ever made Christmas tamales? I think they had chicken, pineapple, and raisins. So good.
My husband was a good cook, he made amazing ribs. We would cook together sometimes, or if I didn't feel good, he'd make dinner even if he had just come home from work.
Today I took down all the autumn decor in the kitchen and front room, a lot of silk garlands and flowers. It all goes in one bin, and I can swap the bins tomorrow. See? I am being good and not over-extending. Tomorrow is the Spode teapot and cookie jar swap.

Anti M- Hey,
Yay for being good. I also packed all my fall decorations away yesterday and was cleaning until it was dinner time. :)
Mmm oh my gosh we had a friend that would make them and come to the house as well. They were soooo good.
Ribs are the bomb to!!
Chicken, pineapple and raisins sound so good. I will have to find some and try them.
Glad you are having a good day.

Hi Mrs. Anti M glad that you are feeling better. No I'm not one for sweet Tamales, I have had chicken w/jalepenos tamales, but I stick to the traditional. So I realized I forgot to tell you about the insult added to my Thanksgiving that sucked... so I wore these cute black booties... got to my brother’s house and go to take them off and the heel came right off in my hand. So not only did I have to leave without eating, I left with only ONE boot. Seriously just threw them away on my way out. I miss my cute boots... sorry was thinking about them earlier today on my way out the door. I loved those boots. Lol argh now I’m going to have to buy new ones! (Instead found the winter boots I love on Sperry... 50% off then I had a coupon code for an extra 15% off... $120 boots for $50... hate spending it but man they are cute

PhoenixMom, I think we usually end up cooking our heritage. One of my Grandpa's came from Poland, infact he was one of the founders of our town so it is mostly Polish, then I marry a polish man from Oshkosh. Most of my cooking is based on pierogi's, golumpki, kluski, potato dumplings, potato pancakes and alot of cabbage recipes. That is probably why we resemble potatoes, if there isn't one on the table they don't consider it a meal.

Shanny—Welcome to Navy Time!! Time is all at once fast and slow!! I can be a bit of a chicken when it comes to new foods too but I have learned to try Everything. I just don’t order it as a Stand alone meal so for Mexican I’ll get a Combo plate of a Tamale, Enchilada and Taco. I know I will like at least 1 of those things. (I actually like all 3 but you get the idea) Even better is to Share with a dinner partner or see if they have an appetizer or side of a new dish. We went to an Indian place and ordered the Sampler meal. It was more food than we would have normally ordered but it let us try a bunch a different dishes (Who knew Lentils could be so good??!!!) There were 2 things I KNEW I would like and Hubs is adventurous so I knew He’d eat leftovers if we didn’t eat it all and I could always get Chick-Fil-A on the way home or make a sandwich if I was still hungry.
Nov 30, 2020
Shanny
Northwoodsmom: Potato and cheese are my favorite. I probably don’t make them right but I fry them in butter. Then serve with a little melted cheese on them and sour cream. My college roommate introduced me to them. She was from Gaylord
Nov 30, 2020
Shanny
BelovedbyHim: when I tried a Thai place I couldn’t find what I normally would get back in college. So I asked if I could order the lunch size portion instead. My friend laughed at me but that way I ordered two lunch portions for the same price and got to find something I really like! So Chik-fil-A is a new thing for us. I think the first was built a year ago. My son went to the drive thru and asked me what I want so I went safe and said just a chicken sandwich. Umm it had cheese and PICKLES on it?!? Cheese is more than ok with me but the pickles threw me. But OMG they were good! Who would have thought?!?

Hey, I've never had tamales either, but have wanted to try them. Can I join the party?
My Sailor is now 2 1/2 weeks in THU. He's trying to do a status check, but a few things have stopped him from accomplishing that (waxed floors, too long of a line and ran out of time, etc.). He only has one hour to do this. Hopefully, tomorrow he can find out why he's being held. And I just heard that those in MA A school can go home for Christmas. He may not even be there by then, or get down there too late to get plane tickets. When they come home, do they have to quarantine again? Since he is reserves, I'm wondering if he should just stay there anyway so he doesn't have to quarantine, then he can just finish school and then come home and find a job and move on with the reservist duties.
Nov 30, 2020
Shanny
C’sMom: my understanding is that if they travel commercial, they will quarantine 14 days upon return. So when my son leaves A School to head to his duty station, even if he doesn’t get to come home, he will still have to quarantine because they fly commercial from school to duty station

Anti M- (looking at you sideways)
BBH - I am rolling my eyes at your daughter only spending 15 mins with you outside and then eating with her inlaws. Sounds like “covid” was the excuse. /sigh My oldest sailor had T-day off base at a friend’s house and did not call us. That is how he rolls. I have 3 more sailors that reach out to us so I take what I can get.
C’smom - they have to ROM anytime they fly commercial or go home. Since he is reserves, bite the bullet and get him out of there faster. BUT the classes may have taken leave + ROM into consideration so much so that whether he comes home or not may not make a difference to when he graduates.
Shanny - what a picture I have in my mind of your T-day exodus from your mom’s. BNMH! My kids worked at CFA and I LOVE their chicken sandwiches - pickles and ALL. And colby jack cheese….yummy.

Good evening everyone!! I almost had a lull but the family all showed back up at home - so quickly - I just wanted to share - since I was asked to relay this information on the vaccine. I was asked by one of the other Navy Moms on here, that is not in our group, but who has two Navy doctors that she has asked about the vaccine. They informed her NO that they have not heard of the military being used as "guinea pigs" for any experimental drugs and asked for me to please pass that along and share it with you. They should not be giving the vaccine at BC.

Good evening ladies, it’s been such a long day and I have been trying to find the time to answer back and comment on everyone’s posts. But time is not allowing it!
all of this glorious food talk was making me salivate all day long! I love tamales and my grandmother would always buy everyone a bundle for Christmas. It was tradition when she was growing up. Definitely going to have to have a tamale dinner around Christmas in her honor.
C’smom - it’s entirely up to you and your family but yeah your son would have to quarantine after his trip home for Christmas. But classes may just be shut down at Christmas time anyway. My son hopes to start his classes on Thursday at MA school. I shipped his Xbox and a few goodies, tea, a couple favorite shirts, which should be arriving tomorrow.
Hello to all of our lovely ladies!
Welcome Mamasita!

Okay, so I still have some comments to catch up on, especially the serious ones - but oh my Northwoodsmom - you had me cracking up laughing about your husband's cooking! I was sharing with my family and my youngest said "I don't even think I would have made that as one of my concoctions when I was a kid!" And then the potatoes!!! So my husband made some joke about the pototatos and Vodka and that the other vegetables needed to learn how to catch up!! I haven't laughed in days, and it felt so good!! Thanks!!!
Shanny - Chick-Fil-A - welcome to our turf!! I never had one before moving to OK but I have never seen a busier fast food store than the ones in our area.
I am sooo sorry to hear about your boots!!
Okay, I need to turn in for the night and will play catch up more tomorrow. Anti M - glad you are getting some of your decorations changed out.

I’m glad the Turkey worked out well. I don’t know that I would have done it that way but I also cook mine differently.
Anti M-- What the WHat??!! Why would “Friends” be coming to see you when you are sick with COVID!! That is not the time to go visiting!! If they wanted to drop off a meal (Hopefully not sideways pie!) that’s one thing but you don’t need to see them to do that!! They put it on your front stoop and ding dong ditch you!!
Luci-- I’m so sorry that his Thanksgiving was that way. He should let his chief know that they are not getting meals in a timely fashion in quarantine. (Once he meets his chief!). You have been provided loads of great suggestions and he needs to reach out to find out where he should be. Let us know when you hear something.

C’smom - They will likely be shutting down over the holidays anyway so if he CAN Come home he should come home. I Keep forgetting that yours is reserves but he still should, beats sitting around. Usually Holiday leave is the 10 days before and including Christmas or 10 days after Christmas. So SOMEBODY is sitting around for 10 days doing nothing. I’m sure they have factored that into their plans for A schools this year and they want to get all the students off base if possible. There will always be some kids/young people who cannot or will not or do not go home but all those who can they want them gone so the instructors don’t have so many to worry about while they are in Stand down mode.
Shanny -- Welcome to the Light side!!! CFA is my go to for Fast food. I cannot stand most places And the ingredients I know are in them. (Fast Casual is a whole ‘nother animal). My DH loves the Spicy Chicken sandwich and I usually get the strips (Less breading than the nuggets). I’m also excited because we finally get In-N-Out. 2 opened here in CO but the lines are still super long and they are not close to my house but there is one opening close by after the first of the year and I can hardly wait!! Looking forward to my Double Double Wild Style!! and a Neopolitian shake! Bummer on your T-day boots but YEAH for cute Cyber Monday boots!!

The Expected timeline will look like this
Day 0 -- Travel, Arrival and "I'm Here" scripted phone call
Day 1-14 -- ROM (Restriction of Movement/ Quarantine-- Lots of studying and waiting)
Day 15-21 Arrive Onboard RTC and begin P-days (P-days- Initial Processing Days) including 2 days of P-hold (Weekend)
Day 21-- Complete P days. (Initial PFT & Run)
Day 22-- Begin training and mail form letter out. Look for it to arrive around 1-2 weeks later)
All of this is assuming no exposure to COVID with additional ROM
Training typically occurs Monday - Friday but we have heard rumors that Saturday’s are now training days as well.
Normal PIR will be 8 Fridays after departure from Home but it can be less by 1 but it can be extended by ???? (lots!!) It just depends on how many times they get caught in the “Ring of Fire” but do not get COVID. IF they get COVID, Once they are recovered they will not be removed from training again even if they are in the “Ring of Fire”. (so there is that small silver lining if kids get sick)

Good morning. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I just wanted to update you that I have not heard back from my son since he had to get a covid test and put in isolation. So I am hoping the "no news is good news" and that it was negative and he was able to complete the original 14 days with no additional days.

So i asked this on the MA group also. I have never flown nor bought plane tickets. I know--my husband and I are probably the only people on the planet that haven't flown. So it sounds like if we can get him home, we should. But we still don't know when he will get down there. So he hasn't officially been told he can leave for Christmas. He's still waiting on orders. So I may not have time to get tickets! I don't even know how quick turnaround is for that type of thing or how to buy them. I may have to learn quickly, and will probably pay too much since I don't know what I'm doing. Ugh! More stress for the holidays. I hate him being in limbo like this. And did I understand from what someone posted (I can remember who now) that because he is reserves, it may delay him getting shipped out from boot camp? That may be the delay. He's been trying to do a status check. He said he'll get in line early today and just wait. The line was too long yesterday and they only have an hour to do this. He couldn't do it before because they were waxing the floors. Always something!

Mamasita - welcome!
Shanny - how sweet of your niece! I would have laughed and cried. Sweet girl!
Csmom - BNMH!
BBH - you may feel tired but I felt a whole lot of energy pouring off your posts!
DoriBry - you should get an updated division for your SR - unless he was isolated before he was assigned a division. As for gift ideas 3 of my sailors have to have a pen on them at all times so I bought one a really nice cross pen. I had already bought a ton of snacks for two of the three - and I bought all 4 of my sailors shadow boxes to put their flags and certificates in. I also bought them ship coins for their RTC ships. Watches and wallets (with RFID blocking) are also some ideas. Anti M did a really nice post a month or so back with ideas. Lemme copy that in here.
Here is the link she had shared: https://www.reddit.com/r/navy/wiki/deployment
My daughter worked at CFA for 2 years. The store was brand new. She was a back of house lead. My 3rd sailor also worked there on fries mostly (and he made the BEST fries - crunchy outside and soft inside). He sometimes worked in front of house taking orders inside and sometimes cash cart outside. They both earned their 2 year pins. They had the fastest CFA in the area. Sometimes 200 cars in Drive Thru at lunch time. They would occasionally bring home cookies and macaroni and cheese - to save from the garbage at the end of day, lol.
My daughter left CFA (they treat their employees horribly) and went to work at another chicken sandwich place and my 1st and 4th sailors joined her there.
Well, back to my digital organizing. And math for my home schooler (part of his math lessons have no answer key - it is a math book from the 1800s and a lot harder than public school so of course I have to also do the math to get the answer to check and I had not looked at his math all year! Thankfully so far he has done most of it right!)
Have a great day ladies!
