DoriBry - You might not hear the results of his test, but if his PIR date is changed you should hear an update about that.

  • Chipmunk

NewMilmom - Hugs to you tonight!!!  You are absolutely right - we all go through the process of letting our children go, differently and how we process it, but the important thing is knowing you are not alone in the process and we have been where you are at.

  • Shanny

I get it Chipmunk. Mine is home and I feel this huge sense of loss sometimes because I know I only have 7 days left. But he is physically right here. It’s the strangest feeling.

hi everyone that hanging out tonight!!  Just sitting here trying to decide what all I’m going to cram into the 7 days while letting him have space and do what he feels he needs to

  • VintageGal

Hello! We just had a nice steak dinner together at the request of my 13-year-old son who is a beast and now that my husband has his ability to taste back he obliged. Now we’re about to lounge out like seals on the couch (I believe somebody else used this analogy)! Hope you all had a nice day!

Shanny ~ you might go out to eat at a favorite spot. Go Christmas shopping for a few family members. Play cards. Skies the limit!

  • Shanny

VintageGal:  no eating out here...  restaurants are closed. We are a red state for cases. No schools, no restaurants, some libraries are closed too.

  • VintageGal

Chipmunk ~ you had a great weekend with your grandbaby. Pick up right here *wink* Have a restful sleep mama :)

  • Chipmunk

    VintageGal - Thanks!

Shanny - It is definitely a strange feeling!! I am sorry that you have so many things locked down.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi all - I finally had a chance to log on and yes, the site is "wonky" as Chipmunk said.  It's doing all sorts of weird things lol.  I'll have to send a message to the ad agency when I get into the office tomorrow.....hopefully they can get it straightened out.

  • partyofseven

DoriBry- Hey, You may not hear the results but hopefully you'll hear from SR soon.

C'sMom- I know the wait seems like forever. Remember no news is good news. Keep busy and hang in there.Big Hugs!!!

coley423-You are almost done. Prayers for him to finish strong. Hugs!!

Shanny- I know it's a different feeling because they are home and then their not home for long. You know every visit is precious but they are not there for long.

While mine is out and about I just stay busy in the house. When he comes back we usually have our quiet time then since everyone else is in bed.  :)

Treylexismom- Whoo hoo letters. Yay for letters. I am so glad you got to hear from your SR. That is awesome!!! Big hugs to you!!!

NewMilmom- Hey, I know mine does the same when it's important it's momma.  :)

No worries and if you wanna cry in the shower you cry. It's always good to cry and let it out. I had a few days like that and I was always thankful when I made it thru the day!! Big hugs to you.

  • partyofseven

    Hey B'sNukeMoM MMN- Hey,

Thank you for checking. It was one way this morning and then went I got to work it was this way. Lol That's why when I posted I said something about it and then Shanny noticed it and then the other ladies noticed it. It is being "wonky". Lol

Thanks always for your help. Hope you and the family are doing well.

Hello, I don't know if this is the right place to introduce myself so I'll keep it short. My name is Sherry and I'm waiting to get flight info from my son who I left last night. It felt absolutely impossible to stop hugging him and back away out that door but I did it! He just kept saying, "I love you, I'll be ok and you'll be ok, it will all be ok." Then I get almost to the exit and he shouts out, "I LOVE YOU!" with at least a dozen other recruits standing around. Oh my heart!! He is our youngest so we are now adjusting to our empty nest. Went to the grocery store today and no less than 5 times picked up things I normally get just for him and had to put it back reminding myself that he isn't coming home. It will be an adjustment for sure! I've been browsing and reading and watching the recommended videos which is taking some of the 'unknown' out of it and the bootcamp video actually made me feel better. I'm really appreciating this group already!

  • Shanny

mom2blondies: aww. Welcome to the board!!!  So glad you found us!!!  That drop off is so rough!  I had to leave mine at the recruiters office. Then stayed until the transport picked him up and watched as they left. If he is at the hotel now waiting to go to MEPS me he has his phone you should be able to text him. My son got his ticket right before they left for the airport. If he has a phone with him, tell him as soon as they land to call you so you can get your I love you in because the arrival call is scripted and they can’t go off the script. My son is currently home on leave between A School and duty station.
Welcome to the board!!  Please feel free to ask any questions you may have!  Someone will answer!  If the board moves too fast and it gets lost please ask again!  We will never intentionally ignore your question!

  • Chipmunk

mom2blondies - Yeah!! Yes, you found the right place to introduce yourself!! My sailor is my 2nd to the youngest of 5 so I still had my youngest at home, but it doesn't make it any easier to say good by to them. There are quite a few moms who will mention going to the store and buying their SRs favorite food and then getting stuck having to eat it themselves, because they forgot they were gone.

Best thing for me was to keep myself busy, which wasn't really hard when my son went through BC. We had finished one wedding and we had another wedding to get ready for and decided on a change of venue so we also were working on clean up for that. I was also pre-Covid so everything went like clockwork and where it could have had a slip up - my son had made sure he stayed on track - he knows I like things just so. But then his PIR came and I didn't even get a hug afterwards because he had to go deal with his orders so he could fly out the next day to his A school in Goose Creek, SC. I didn't know anything about this site until the week before his PIR, but that day, waiting for 5 hours before he could be with us, I had big change take place and what use to be bend and break has started more and more to become Semper Gumby!!

Stay connected here, watch for posts, read through recent ones - we repeat ourselves often for the new members and sometimes the site gets "Wonky" but stick around, we will help you through this.

  • mom2blondies

Thanks ladies, yes he is at the hotel and was at MEPS all day today and I just got his call with his flight info. He is antsy to get through quarantine and get to the 'fun' of bootcamp! I'm just trying to keep steady because my emotions are all over the place and tears will just start flowing without warning. At least we are doing curbside service at work because I go back tomorrow and not sure what to expect from this roller coaster I'm feeling. I've been trying to develop new hobbies to keep me busy. I taught myself  (well, actually youtube videos) how to crochet and started making scarves and hats as Christmas gifts to keep myself busy. Covid isn't helping because it is limiting what we can do to stay busy. Again, thanks for the warm welcome!!

  • belovedbyHim

Chipmunk-- Yes I was working!! We released the new version of our software so I had orders from the last 7 days to fill. I don’t know that we will be busy enough to keep me employed full time though so I will be continuing to look for something else to do on the side. Data Entry would be ideal, something that is somewhat flexible and I can do mostly from home.

DoriBry-- The fact that you didn’t get a letter last week leads me to believe that he did in fact have an additional 2 weeks of ROM. Today (12/7) Would have been P1 based on that timeline so you would be looking for your form letter next week or the start of the following (Due to the postal system being overwhelmed with Christmas mail)

warriorprotector-- Your SR should be in P days (P3 should be today 12/7) As long as you haven’t had a Phone call then Hold tight because in this case “NO News” really is “Good News!!” Look for your form letter middle to end of next week! First phone call may come Christmas week so Keep your phone handy the WHOLE WEEK and Ringer on Loud!! (Just sit near the door at Christmas services!!)

C'sMom-- Really!!! That is INSANE!!! You’d think with the crowding that they’d want to get him out of there sooner than later!! They can only ask once a week?! I’ll be praying for sure that he gets out sooner than later!!

Shanny -- I suggest that you sit down with him and make a list. Remind him that while he may want to see everyone that is still unwise Due to COVID and Don’t be afraid to let him know the top 3 things on your list to do together. I suggest that would also be a good time to let him know future expectations too. I felt that the first 48 were important mostly because he usually slept for most of the first day. On the couple of visits where that didn’t happen I was pleased to let him go visiting on the second day but I really want to get in those first few hugs, talks and just soaking him up!! After that I’m just happy for any additional time I get. I find that setting my expectations low makes it harder to get hurt if they go unmet.

B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN-- I have tried to accept comments on my page. I was finally able to sign out but everything else is off. I tried to message you but the post just seemed to sit there so I’m trying here too.

mom2blondies-- Welcome, I believe I posted some info on your page as to what to expect. If you get a chance before he leaves please have a real good talk about what to expect.

Since Covid has hit things have been all over the place - they get put in quarantine, they get out of quarantine, they get put back in quarantine. A normal 8 week boot camp can drag on much longer and it can take a huge mental toll on them. It's important that they understand THIS IS ONLY TEMPORARY! They need to be physically strong but more importantly they need to be MENTALLY STRONG!

Let them know that they probably won't even get a letter from home until they are at least HALF WAY through boot camp. NO you haven't forgotten about them - it just takes that long for them to train someone in the mail room so they can get their mail. The first couple of weeks they may question their decision to join - and that's normal! But they need to be strong. This is just the beginning of their Navy career and they need to learn to be FLEXIBLE.

Remind them they are STRONG and THEY CAN DO THIS. Before they leave ask them HOW BAD DO YOU WANT THIS?
  • DoriBry

    Good morning everyone.

mom2blondies-Welcome.  I am fairly new to this group but I can tell you that everyone has been so welcoming and supportive to us new navy moms.  I am already learning so much.  Mine is our youngest also.  Last night was the first time I looked at the pictures I took when I dropped him off at the recruiter's office.  I wanted to show my husband but couldnt get through them without crying.  My husband just keeps telling me "He is fine and is going to be ok."  I know this but doesnt keep me from missing him so much.  I write a letter everyday and just waiting on the address so I can send them.  Again Welcome!

  • partyofseven

Good Morning mom2blondies- Welcome to our group. I didn't get to give you a welcome last night. We are glad you are here. Yes, your emotions will be all over the place and it is ok. Cry if you want to is what I always say and it does our hearts and souls good to get it all out.

Keeping busy is key once he leaves start writing every day so when you do get the form letter you can send all your mail off. Don't worry you can post on here anytime you like. We are all here for you and someone will answer  you.

  • partyofseven

DoriBry- Good Morning. Thank you for sharing. It does help. Big hugs to you today.

Shanny- Good Morning, Enjoy the day today.  :)

Anti M- How are you today?

Phoenixmom, VintageGal, LBF, Chipmunk Good Morning.

Welcome to all of our other new moms. We are glad you are here.

    Good morning everyone.

Shanny- Boot in the House is amazing!  Makes me cry but I love it.

TreyLexisMom – Congratulations!!  I wait for that day.  Thanks for sharing.  Just knowing bits and pieces of what my son is going through helps me stay positive.  I am guessing that BC may be more like 10 -12 weeks for most SR.  Please keep us posted as you continue to get letters. He sounds like a strong young man. :)

Mom2blondies – Welcome and you will LOVE this group!  Just reading the posts sometimes is enough to help me.  :)  These ladies are a wealthy of knowledge.  I can’t offer advice, as I don’t know what I am doing yet or the process, but we will learn from each other and from the ladies here.  My son hopefully arrived at RTC on Thurs. Dec. 3 so he is in processing.  Hoping he is able to send the form letter this week.

Hope you all have a wonderful Tues.

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning everyone!! I enjoy reading the comments from our new members as you start reaching out and helping each other also. That is the name of the game around here.

Partyofseven - Good Morning!! I don't often comment on the scriptures but today I will. FYI if anyone is interested we do have a Christian Navy Moms group on here as well. Peace is so important to our lives and to our well-being. Learning how to enter into rest and peace in God has been a big help to me, especially with my sailor. I know not everyone holds similar spiritual or religious views - but as Moms it is important for us to find a place of rest and peace.

Mom2blondies and all of our other new members - Please feel free to voice your specific fears and concerns with BC and even this Navy journey. We are here to help you and often it is the unknown, the silence, the what ifs that produce fear in us, that can be alleviated when we talk and gain more knowledge. So please share with us.

As for COVID - Yes, it can be scary, especially for certain "at risk" people, but I am technically one of those "at risk" people and I have recovered from having the virus. If you have any personal questions feel free to send me a PM and I will reply as soon as I am able. Or post a comment on my page.

There are other fears, fears of our kids in the fleet, etc. But this is why they are at BC and it is why they are back training them for the full 8 weeks. To prepare them to be warrior strong. In the meantime, you are here to train to be Navy Mom strong!

  • Chipmunk

Hopefully these links will work correctly. As I said, the site is being wonky!

✟CHRISTIAN NAVY MOMS - Navy For Moms (ning.com)

The second link is to the RTC website and this is under News - it is a video about their Warrior Toughness program they started at BC.

Recruit Training Command - News (navy.mil)

If you have not been to RTC website, I highly recommend that you check it out as well. It is more informational and some of it does not pertain currently, but I went all through BC with only that website (and not even updated) and another site that my husband found a BC timeline for me to have an idea of what my son was doing. I only found N4Ms the week before PIR when I wanted more information and also my son is a Nuke, so it flagged this site as well. You can do this!! And when you feel like you can't - definitely come share!

  • Chipmunk

The Christian Moms group is a closed group that you will have to wait to be accepted into so it may take a day or two but be patient.

  • partyofseven

proud and grateful- Good Morning, it is good to see you on here. Thank you for sharing and welcoming the other new moms.

Yes we will. I am still learning and mine has been in almost 3 1/2 years. But we keep on trucking. This group has been my life saver as well and you are right when we first start this journey we don't know anything and it's ok.  :)

Another thing I always say is that going thru boot camp with our SR's helps us and teaches us what to expect for the long run.

You are very welcome and that is what we all are here for to help each other out.

You have a great day as well!!

  • Phoenixmom

  • LadyBluefire

I cannot type well today. (worse than normal) Y’all have been chatty!

Anti M- well, the world will go on i f you don;t decorate - so take care of you first.

Warrior = welcome and glad your issues posting have been fixed!

NewMilMom - I was just existing for a while but I told myself life is meant to be lived and that is what I try and do! How sweet of you to help your elderly neighbor. A shame her daughter won’t but who knows the history there. Sad. :(

You HAVE to drop him from insurance once he PIRs. It is a big NONO to keep them on.

Trey - yay for letters! His division will change once he gets out of ROM but at least it is a way to write him! (unless they forecast  the new division he will be assigned)

Phoenix - you take it easy lady! Home Goods? - man that is my toy store, that and office supplies, lol. Glad your kitchen is coming together fast  - prayers it is done by Christmas! Can;t wait to see photos!

I had chicken tortilla soup (pablanos, jalapenos, cumin, chili powder, garlic, tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, chipotle tabasco, cilantro, onions, chicken, probably more as that is off the top of my head)

Is Bud on a full deployment? I thought those were kind of on the back burner. WebCam? Can you send me the link in a PM? My son’s ship is in SLEP in SanDog but for future :)

Csmom - ugh the frustration abounds! All over something as small as records!

Vintage - I posted with my reply to Phoenix what I made. My headache was gone after an hour. Hubby and I played Blather Round for about an hour last night - it is one of the few games 2 players can handle and it was fun.

Shanny - try and not do what I did - I mentally counted the days down and was sad about him leaving instead of soaking up the joy….I did have joy dont get me wrong but him leaving was a black cloud….

    BBH - :)

    Mom2blondies - welcome!!!

Party - good morning to you too!

  • LadyBluefire

Since I can get verbose  - breaking it up, lol.

So as part of my ongoing (can't think of the word) project to get back on track and organize my digital files I am halfway done with a project for 2 of my sailors.

Their bio mom died when they were 2 and 4. I have known them before they were born as their dad was my first love many many years ago. I have adopted them so they are my kids not my stepkids. (I went from 2 kids to 5 kids in less than a year when we married and I had our "ours")

Anyway, I wanted to make them a keepsake book of their bio mom composed of photos of them together. I did the "4 year old's book" yesterday and it has been ordered and I will start working on the "2 year old's"

That will be my day today.

Have a great day ladies and welcome to whoever I missed in my last post.

  • Chipmunk

    Good Morning LBF!

Well, the site is back to its "normal" view for me!! I hope it is working in all other proper aspects as well. I won't be on much today - but if you have issues, you can always scroll to the bottom of this page and where it says  - Report Issue - you can click that and send a note to the site admins.

I just posted a new discussion above - How to send PMs - private messages and also some OPSEC/ PERSEC information. I might need to add to the discussion - How to do a friend request - but it is basically the same - click on the profile picture and under that should be an option for Friend Request.

Be sure to watch your email feeds and check your profile page daily to look for friend requests, comments, or messages in your inbox that may or may not have come into your email feed. Have a wonderful day!!

  • Phoenixmom

LadyBlueFire that soup sounds Delicious I haven't tried making a Tortilla soup although I like! For the web cams in San Diego just go to youtube web cams San Diego there are many and they will say live and just click on the One you are interested in. I did the Harbour and it shows which ships are coming and going. It was pretty foggy early morning. You can also here them speaking to each other on the boats as to what is next or who.

I believe the kitchen will be done by Christmas but now the Question is DO I WANT ANYONE IN IT? Me and my Daughter laughed about it the other Day, LOL! Just others aren't so watchful as to what they do, we laughed about that too, My daughter said I will be like a Warden who drops food or makes a mess. and knowing me she is right!

  • LadyBluefire

The tortilla part comes when you serve - you put some nice shredded cheese on top and serve with blue corn tortilla chips. Crumbled in or on the side.

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Chipmunk and thank You for the information.

    Thank you LadyBlueFire!

  • Phoenixmom

I think that is a Beautiful thing you are doing LadyBlueFire, I am sure they will cherish the Books.

  • VintageGal

    Good morning ladies,

Mom2Blondies ~ Cute name! Welcome! I see that you have had a warm welcoming from our amazing women on here already. We're glad you're here! Your son sounds like a sweetheart btw! :) My son had PIR a month ago and there's no way I would've been able to get through this journey without their support. Of course I would've been hanging on by a thread and probably crying in a corner somewhere lol but with their support it made it all a lot more bearable. I felt like I wasn't alone. Even living in a house with a family that loves and adores our sailor it just wasn't the same as talking with other moms and receiving all of their inside information and support. With that being said :) We're glad you're here and we'll do whatever it takes to get YOU through boot camp. We won't yell at you though. Unless you personally ask us to. Share with us when you want to celebrate with you or you just need to vent. Have a wonderful day and jump in anytime!!

Good morning everyone! Time to hit the showers!

Phoenixmom ~ I had coffee with about a tsp of milk :) just how I like it! Thinking about you and your Bud. BNMH

Ladybluefire ~ Your tortilla soup sounds delicioso! I need to get my hands on that game!

Wow that story have you sweet sailors warmed my heart. I had to read it a couple of times but I think I got it. You're an amazing woman. Enjoy your love project!

Chipmuck, Partyofseven, Belovedbyhim, Csmom, Northwoodsmom, Shanny, NewMilmom, Treyleximom, warrior,  and to all of our new moms ~ have a beautiful day!! (((BNMH)))

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Good morning all - looks like the site is back to normal now.  If you notice any other issues send me a PM and I'll reach out to the ad agency.

    Have a wonderful day!

  • partyofseven

    LadyBlueFire- Hey,

Chicken tortilla soup is my favorite. I will have to put that on the menu for this week or next.

I think it is awesome that you are making a book for them. Enjoy your day.  :)

We used to look at the SD cam when the kids were little. Now I will be looking at it to keep track of our Sailors. It's different that's not the word I'm looking for but now I'll be watching it for our Sailors.

I love Home Goods to. It's my favorite go to store.

    VIntageGal- Good Morning,

You have a great day as well.

Phoenixmom- Good Morning, The kitchen comment had me smiling. That's exactly what I say, after you've cleaned and you walk into the kitchen and there's a mess. Ugh. clean it up!! Lol

    Thank you for the prayer.

  • Northwoodsmom

Newbies, I know your names but there are so many it would take a long paragraph to write them all. Just wanted to share some experiences to help you through the Great Silence.

I don't think training someone to do the mail is the only reason it takes so long to get mail through! The Navy wants them to learn to survive without us and learn to lean on each other. Through all their struggles ( believe me now more than ever) they learn to build alliances with each other. If they had communication coming in through mail and phone calls that would never happen or at least not as fast. They need each other to make it through Boot Camp and the rest of their Navy Career. If this didn't happen our great Navy would suffer.

Even though my son's PIR didn't allow us to be there we did drive d own and wait with him for his flight to SC. My son is very much a introvert, spending half his life hiding away in the basement with only a handful of friends, not exactly social. When I got to the airport watching the Sailors come in I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The closeness these young men and women developed. They were all concerned with each other, helping each other out. They were more like brothers and sisters they indeed became a family. I knew immediately in my heart he was going to be okay. I know alot of you won't be able to share this experience but I want you to know how real it is. My son is loving where he is and what he is doing and the camaraderie he has with his fellow Sailors. He is definitely not alone, sure he misses us but their lives are full and most of the time do busy they don't have time to dwell on the fact they are so far home.  They are with family, their New Navy Family.

  • Phoenixmom

Thank You for your Insight NorthWoodsMom a very true detail!

  • proud and grateful

    LadyBluefire - What is SLEP?

Pheonixmom - could you send me the link as well.  I would love to see that.

  • proud and grateful

Northwoodsmom - Thanks for sharing that!!  I keep forgetting that he isn't alone.  And actually, what you witnessed and shared with us is exactly what I want him to experience.  I just didn't realize how difficult that would be on me.  LOL  Thanks again.

  • partyofseven

Phoenixmom- Is the links on youtube better? I wasn't sure which one to pick when I goggled it. I picked this one called Clipper Oil. Can you send me your link as well when you get a chance?

Good Morning Anti M, I'm right with you, I've been so tired Lately like run down. I just would like to snuggle on the couch with a good movie and do nothing. But with everything going on I just cant, I'm always on the GO GO GO! Ugh! But I love online shopping I have come into so good deals, my Bill would be 150.00 bring it down to 40.00 good to me! I went to take my Layaway out Sat. Morning I owed 150.00 left on it  the scanned my receipt and with all the sales they ended up owing me 3.00 back so I got it basically for free. Happy Tuesday Morning to All,

We have Santa Ana winds again today so it was already warm out at 4:30am when I took my oldest doggo outside.  Argh! we do not need more winds we are all still trying to clean up from the last ones.  And praying no more fires now the damn Santa Ana winds return.  I have never heard of Santa Ana winds in December in the years we have been here we didn't have them.  My poor middle daughter is suffering with allergies & sinus from all of it something fierce.

My sailor called dh last night & sounded soooo tired!  It was short conversation as he is having some troubles with the laptop computer he just bought on base... paid a lot but, it isn't working correctly?...?  not sure what he will do on it.

He did briefly text me too re: possible travel for stand down & changes... The Important stuff (yes, I'll take it).   Think we got it worked out & he texted me "night night"....awww...my heart burst & I had to hold back tears.  2 words and Momma is a puddle...I do not think that will ever change.  Hearing how sad/tired he was last night when on speaker phone with dh & dd about broke my heart as I just wanted to give him a big Hug...so I hugged him in my heart & prayers.

For all you Momma's with those random teary moments, buying food that food/item you know they'd like just to remember they aren't home, missing checking in their rooms & watching them sleep (yes, I am guilty of checking on my kiddos to this day) It Is OKAY!!

For all of us have felt all the feels just like you are now.

Remember the "no news is good news" motto & repeat as needed each day.  I sure do!

I have not had energy to prep & decorate house as I used to for last several years due to life's struggles/rough times - it has been just trying to survive & get through day to day...

but, I am trying to plan to do a bit this year on off chance we will get a couple days of us all together & not dwell on it maybe our last chance for that for a long time coming.

I will try not to think about how short it is so I can just enjoy each precious minute.

I will also have to enter his room as haven't done so since he left.

Prayers for strength & patience as we all go down this new life road as a Navy Mom to each of us.

C'sMom - omg ... I feel your frustration & heartbreak at your poor sailor getting stuck in endless THU at RTC...must mean something Great is in store for him in the future as he is surely going through the trials & tribulations now.
