PartyofSeven that sounds Awesome, and It makes the house smell so good to bake as well! Love it! No Ma'am haven't received any text. that is so weird because I used to get them all!
  • partyofseven

    Phoenixmom- lol that was cruel.

I think a lot of people are feeling that way about waiting to see what happens.

Ok. I am calling TMobile to see what's up. Ugh!!

  • Phoenixmom

Proud and Grateful that is what I was thinking, something isn't right!

My Son wasn't much of a writer. but I did receive letters with only two or three lines on it but it was something. his Div. were able to call a lot so I received more calls than anything. But things were different back then.

  • Shanny

Proud and grateful:  they have not had meals delivered since they arrived Monday. My son's roommate from A School has been down there about a month and he brought my son take out since they hadn't received meals. And when my son went down for food today they said he wasn't on the list as being for that ship. So he showed the guy his orders. So they gave him food

  • Phoenixmom

Yea My Daughter Likes teasing Bud and she says the darnest things to him but so funny! we all just Laugh! then he tells us "Ok I'm not coming home anymore" But he doesn't mean it nor does she. LOL!
  • Phoenixmom

Shanny I have never heard of that, so ridiculous/insane! Thanks to his friend, way to go looking out Sailor!

  • Phoenixmom

Well all, Have a Great evening/Sweet dreams and stay warm.
  • belovedbyHim

Just an FYI for those of you just starting, If they have an Account with Navy Federal, NFCU has covered missing paychecks due to the Government shutdown’s in the past. They just take the funds when the budget gets passed so your sailor doesn’t feel the pinch as much if at all. Very helpful when they are young and don’t have any real savings built up but still have bills to pay.
I’m sorry if my gift ideas gave anyone the impression that they needed to buy these things for their sailors. You DO NOT!! They have a uniform allowance to cover the basics. My Sailor has ASKED for Socks, Boxers and T shirts for Christmas/ Birthday in the past because his job is construction and he wears them out quickly! (They have to be washed Daily at least and some jobs he may wear 2 or 3 changes of clothing!) We Joke that Socks and underwear used to be like Coal in their stocking but Now they make him happy! These are things that they may want because they don’t take up much space and can replace worn out items. DO NOT buy without asking first… they can tell you the specific items and where to get what they need.

I’m still reading and trying to get caught up from this morning…. Over 100 posts today alone…
  • Phoenixmom

Thank You Beloved, my time to go have a Great evening folks sweet dreams until we meet again tomorrow!

phoenixmom-I like baking but I love licking the bowl more so I have to limit the homemade goodies.  As far as getting the covid vaccine I don't feel strongly about it either way.  I didnt start getting the flu vaccine until I became a nurse and was basically required to do so.  So if its offered and there are no cases of vaccinated people growing extra limbs then I will most likely get it.

  • Northwoodsmom

Phoenix mom, here is your answer to ( do you bake)

  • Chipmunk

Northwoodsmom - I love your cookies!!

Shanny - I am glad your son showed them his orders. If he has his Chief's # he needs to let him know!  My husband was Army but he said once before that their Chief needs to take care of them and that is what the Ombudsman told me as well. I am sorry this has happened. It is goofy on the ROM from A school to duty station.

  • Shanny

chipmunk:  he just called and said he ran into a couple of guys he knows in the hall on their way to get dinner. So he knows he has friends in the building. And his roommate from A School just called and told him he was going to the store and getting Waffle House wanted to know what he wanted. So he is picking up some things from the store for him and Waffle House. He said he is being introduced to “Southern Living” since his friends have made fun of him for having never had Waffle House lol

oh he did call his sponsor and told them he wasn’t on the food list. The Sponsor said she had called and told them yesterday and would call again. I told him if it happens tomorrow to call the chief. So we will see

  • Anti M

Wow, so much to catch up on.

I was a baker, and made all sorts of wonderful things, often from scratch.  Now it is just me, I have no motivation or interest in all that work.  I have a couple premade pie crusts in the freezer, and a few cake mixes, in case I get the urge.  Not baking for the neighbors this year, or making fudge.  I ordered some from Etsy to support a small business, my fudge is so much better.

    Good evening ladies,

Csmom - hi! Great picture! So handsome and I bet you were so proud!  so I asked my son if he’d like any of those undergarments and he said he could always use extra boot socks. I’ll be taking an account these brands that the ladies are mentioning. So curious to know if he receives permanent orders to somewhere cold, warm, or tropic! Any new news yet on movement?

Warriorprotector and Belovedbyhim ~ thank you so much for the advice on their young marriage. I was as young as they were as well. I love the idea of writing a letter to each other on all of the expectations. I could easily give that information to my son because he is a black and white person when it comes to receiving information and absolutely loves psychology.
    you ladies are absolutely wonderful!!

Newmilmom ~ we’re all embracing you and one big giant group hug. If I could give any bit of advice it would be to just make a checklist of everything you’d like to get done and do it for your son because he would want you to be happy. I know it’s easier said than done and sometimes you’d rather just have people listen instead of giving advice (that’s what I tell my husband anyway ;-P) but I hope that it’ll help. We’re all here for you mama night or day and I love reading your posts!!!!! I love your navy goblet of fire! ;)

Shanny ~ oh Mylanta that picture really pulls on your heartstrings!!  I have pictures of my kids when they were little that I took from behind that are the absolute cutest and I will be doing that when he leaves again. Why? To torture myself!! <3 like all of us moms do!!

Good night Phoenixmom ~ thank you for all your support as well! I appreciate your morning prayer and all the love and care that you bring to this group.
Your kids are hysterical and they remind me a lot of my own! They rip on each other (all in fun) and sometimes have me laughing in tears!! I can’t wait till they’re all here together!
your husband and guardian angel sounds like a wonderful man. He was quite the chef! I love jalapeño poppers! I buy the bacon wrapped jalapeños from the grocery store that they have at the butcher counter. Cheating yes I know lol sometimes a girls got to do what she’s gotta do! My youngest son has a pepper belly and so does his mama!
Have a restful night Mamacita <3

Northwoodsmom ~ So sorry that you had to go back to virtual. I’ve been on virtual since the school year started. We soooo miss the kids and seeing them in person. I can’t wait to meet our kindergarteners in person! You’re so sweet to haul buns for your school babies!
Your sugar creations always look so mouthwatering! I am not a baker and my sailor has always teased me about it. Sure hope that his fiancé likes to bake I know her mother does. I hope she inherited that trait because that boy likes some baked goods. Here’s a thought... he can take a baking himself! Yeah!

Chipmunk ~ how was your day? Mine was busy and now I’m on the move to get things ready for Friday afternoon ;)

Doribry ~ Hello! How are you?

Proud and grateful ~ yay at receiving your form letter! Who would’ve thought that just SEEING your child’s handwriting would open the flood gates!!! BNMH!!

DallasNavyMom  ~ oh my! Big hugs to you mama. I know yesterday had to hard. My son will be in quarantine on his birthday in January. TEARS!!

Katharine ~ Hello! Seeing your posts is like catching a butterfly!!  LOL

Good evening Anti M :) I hope you’re feeling well. Time for this gal to enjoy some hot tea and put my feet up.

Have a peaceful sleep ladies. Sweet dreams to you and your Sailors :)

  • VintageGal

C’smom - sorry I meant to say you ARE so proud!

  • mom2blondies

proud and grateful: I'm not optimistic that I'll be getting letters from my SR. He actually told me not to expect any as he'll be busy. I thought about sending questions for him to just fill in short answers but I think he'd be annoyed by that and not do it. I plan to write him and I'll ask questions but whether he answers them or not remains to be seen.

I read on the FB page today that if they haven't had their wisdom teeth out that they will take them out at bootcamp. UHG! I've been bugging this kid for 4 years to let me schedule him with the oral surgeon and he always had some reason why he couldn't. Yeah, he was a busy kid and he had legitimate reasons with school/work/extracurriculars/training/etc. but now I'm wishing I had pushed harder and just made him go. I hope they have good oral surgeons in the Navy!! And now he will have to suffer through recovery alone in a room instead of being taken care of.

I got to see my grandbaby today which always makes me so happy!! She has been the light in a very dark 2020!

I ordered this rug for my SR bedroom and it came today. I think he'll get a kick out of it. His floor was always so full of work gear and workout equipment and laundry that there was no space for a rug and after cleaning his room it needed a little something.

  • Chipmunk

VintageGal - My day was busy mostly with my kids and whatever I managed to post on here, and I am still behind!! I took my youngest to go buy his b'day present so we would have it for him to show off at his party. It is a Bow Stick for his Taekwondo!  Due to a few delays that took longer than I thought. And then I had a long conversation on the phone with another child and I still had another one I left a message for!!

Anti M - Just mentioning that you make good fudge has my mouth watering!!

  • Chipmunk

Shanny - Glad to hear that your sailor is making friends or connecting with old ones (that is great!) And yes, he needs to know he can reach out to his chief, but it sounds like his sponsor was doing what needed to be done, and someone else messed up. Waffle House - It is a Midwest thing as well! :-)

  • Shanny

Chipmunk:  we have Denny’s and IHOP here. No Waffle House. He says whatever his friend got him is amazing. Then said Michigan needs Waffle House!

someone said fudge!  I need fudge. It’s the only time I like peanut butter...  when it’s peanut butter fudge!  I’ve never made it though...

mom2blondies:. They didn’t take my son’s wisdom teeth. He said they told them they never fully developed and didn’t believe they would cause an issue.  I think I heard they get 2 days to recover from it...  LOVE the rug!!! Very cool!

vintage:. I still can’t look at the picture. I know I’m dramatic...  but I miss him and worry for those days he will be without the ability to communicate. It’s like they grew up over night. He doesn’t even talk the same anymore

  • Chipmunk

Mom2blondies - My son did not have his wisdom teeth out either, as I think he may be like his father and missing some. But those that do, get SIQ - Sick In Quarters. They basically stay in their racks and rest and study while others like my son are standing their watches for them. So, for some it may be better than doing watch! Others may reply but the dentist at BC have a lot of experience with taking out wisdom teeth so there is at least that reassurance. They want them to get it done where they can keep an eye on things vs being out on a ship and needing an emergency.

Shanny - Waffle House is also 24 hours I think so they have that going for them as well. I don't recall if IHOP is 24 hrs, I think Denny's is though.

  • VintageGal

mom2blondies ~ Happy to hear that you got your grand-baby snuggles in today! Those are the best!

I’m wondering if my son will need his wisdom teeth out. I have mine because... I have a big mouth! Jk so I’m not sure if he’ll need his pulled. My daughters don’t exist which is nice. I hope that your son has little pain if he has to go through with it.

    Nice rug! :)

Chipmunk ~ Enjoy your birthday festivities! It sounds like you got in a lot mama and child time! We ran to Costco to stock up on goodies and meats for the weekend.

I have to tell you all my little tearful story from tonight. My husband and I were talking on the way to Costco. He had just gotten off the phone with his good friend who is having their first child and is super nervous. He asked if I had nursed our babies. He had told him that I did and he remembered when I was weaning our baby/sailor and he took him for a drive and he was crying his little heart out :( He was about 18 mths old. He finally fell asleep in the car. THE TEARS STARTED FLOWING!!! I told my husband that he wanted his mama!! Oh the mama allergies :(

Good night ladies! Time for The Amazing Race and a glass of wine ;)

  • VintageGal

Shanny ~ Trust me you’re not dramatic. I’ll be doing the same thing... drowning in my tears! Let’s do lunch! They do grow up fast and it’s so hard on a mamas heart <3 HUGS

  • mom2blondies

Our dentist has been bugging him to get his wisdom teeth out for years! But then they bug everyone starting about 16y/o. They keep telling him they are sideways and need to come out but he doesn't have any discomfort from them and he didn't ever want to take 2 days off of his 'stuff' to rest.  I wanted him to get them out because he had braces and so help me if those teeth mess up his orthodontic work I would not be happy! His recruiter told him he could bring his retainers though so he has them. I was worried that months of not wearing them would make it so he couldn't get them in later. I do hope if they take them out that he gest that recovery time although unless he is feeling terrible, he won't want it. I never could keep that kid down.

My oldest had his out and was pretty out of it for a couple of days. He doesn't take pain medication because he just doesn't want to....not even when he had ortho surgery on his broken elbow, not a single pain pill. I joke that he may not have pain receptors. So he was pretty uncomfortable and mostly slept for 2 days.

VintageGal: I feel like I'm constantly fighting back the memories of him being a baby. Which isn't easy when my DIL is always asking for advice about my grandbaby so the, "When the boys were babies....." stories are a constant. I feel like every other day I get emotional. My brain must need a day in between to recover.

  • belovedbyHim

NewMilmom-- I still have those days from time to time. Try and take care of yourself though. I know the Christmas Goodies are too tempting but you don’t want to be miserable forever. I Said it before “Don’t let tomorrow’s sorrows steal Today’s joys!!” Every Sailor has a different journey and you have no way of knowing if it will be long separations or short. Just take each day as it comes and you will get through!

Imlaotvhe-- I’m so sorry you got an upsetting phone call. The ladies have given you a bunch of good info.

DallasNavyMom-- Happy birthday to your Twins!

warriorprotector-- After some foolish years we are down to just our mortgage (Thanks Dave) but sadly our kids have all decided they need to make their own stupid! We have tried and tried to explain to them. My Youngest and oldest are better but my sailor still thinks that as long as there is $ on his credit card he has money. It makes me sad to see but I can’t stop him.

proud and grateful -- I Had to Threaten mine to get letters!! I sent the fill in the blanks and nothing, I sent SASE’s Nothing, I sent a letter mostly written... Nothing. He called home and I said, I Need you to write me even if it’s just It’s all good here mom! Otherwise I would start writing to his RDC’s !!! (I wouldn’t really but....) He started writing. He hates to write, in fact even now he isn’t that great as a communicator. No You are not alone!

Shanny-- THAT’S NUTS!!!! This is one reason to keep a copy of their orders ALWAYS!!! I’m glad he has a contact on the “outside” to keep him from starving!! I’m sure they will figure it out sooner than later but YEESH!!! what a mess!

Phoenixmom-- I love to bake but I end up eating what I make and I cannot afford those calories anymore so I have stopped. I’m so glad you got a good report from your Doctors and I hope you like your new one just as much.

Northwoodsmom-- Do you just want me to come over or will you be delivering??? YUMMMMMMMMM

mom2blondies-- They don’t always take them out but yes for 90% of the sailors who have wisdom teeth they will remove them. My son was kind of sad that he didn’t have his out at BC because those guys got 2 days SIQ and got to sleep all they wanted and He had to cover their watches and other duties and make sure everyone got their meds on time and Took them. They were well cared for.

Belovedbyhim. ~ Hi my name is Vintagegal... and I am a Navy mom... and I uber love my sailor... who is my baby... and I gave a hard time letting go... :-/

    Group: Hi Vintagegal
  • VintageGal

HHAHAHAHA! Those are too funny! Thanks Belovedbyhim <3 pretty sure we can ALL relate
  • belovedbyHim

VintageGal -- Hi VintageGal.  I'm also Uber in love with my sailor and miss him tons too.  He'll also be gone for both Christmas and his Birthday yet again this year.  We've missed more than we've had so we just celebrate when we can.

It has made this holiday harder than normal though.  I'm so ready to be done with 2020!!!

  • belovedbyHim

Vintage-- Jan 3. In the last 7 years I've had 1 birthday and 2 Christmases and a Pseudo-Christmas and 1 Thanksgiving.

  • DoriBry

Mom2blondies-My son went in with his wisdom teeth also.  I would ask everytime he went in for a cleaning but the dentist never indicated that it was a priority at the time.  I just thought it was something everyone had done.  I will have to ask my son the next time I speak with him if he had them removed yet.

  • partyofseven

Good Morning Ladies and welcome to all of our new moms,

Prayers for letters and calls to come today. For the wisdom teeth they used to pull them before COVID happened. My Sailor was lucky as he had his out when he was younger. As he said thou he stood on more watches to help cover for the other SR"s that had theirs's taken out.

BBH- Love those pictures, those are some of my favorites!!! My Sailor's birthday is on Halloween. He has been home once for his and that was when he turned 21. It is difficult or different celebrating when they are not there. But I feel funny not at least acknowledging his day. :)

VintageGal- Hello it won't be long now before yours is home.

Phoenixmom, LBF (can you come and help me do mine?) :), Anti M, Shanny, warriorprotector, mom2blondies ( It really does get better), NewMilMom, Chipmunk. Good Morning Ladies.

  • Shanny

Well, GOOD MORNING!!!  Woke up to snow on the ground... not enough to cover the grass but enough of the roads to be annoying!  (Why is my phone ringing at 7:45am?!?! Not my sailor so voicemail it is)

  • partyofseven

    Hebrews 10:23

  • Chipmunk

DoriBry - You may always make the offer to your mailman (lady) - you never know, you might become good friends!! :-)

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning everyone!! I am late getting hubby's breakfast and lunch trying to catch up on my messages! I have a couple of busy days with my youngest so I most likely won't be on much.

Be sure to check your inboxes and your My Page for comments from other members as well as on the group pages!

    Have a wonderful day everyone!!

  • DoriBry

Chipmunk-We have actually had some nice conversations. And when its a hot and humid day here in the south, if I hear the mail truck then I will grab a cold water or gatorade and bring it out to her.  Those vehicles don't have a/c.  Its a plus in keeping your postal carrier happy and appreciated.

Partyofseven-Do they no longer take care of the wisdom teeth in BC?

  • partyofseven

DoriBry- that is awesomr. We have done that in the past also especially out here in Az. I try to bring extra water with me and if I see some one broke down or the mail lady we give them some.

I am not sure uf they are still doing the surgery in bc and or we haven't heard from any of the other moms if they are. I know that they had stopped doing some things so I wasn't sure if they still were doing pulling the wisdom teeth.

LBF and BBH- Do we know for sure if they are or not? I thougjt I had heard or read somewhere that they weren't at this time.

  • proud and grateful

    Good morning everyone!

Shanny - I may need to do that with my sailor if he chooses not to write.  I just need one line to say "I am fine"  :)  Your son has made some good friends in BC.  At least we know they are taking care of each other.

Northwoodsmom- Oh my!  your cookies look amazing!!  Nothing like what my decorated cookies look like.  LOL  You are very talented and crafty.  I wish I was.  I am soooo NOT creative.

mom2blondies - our sons are so much alike!!!  My son didn't get his wisdom teeth pulled before leaving either.  I told him the same thing.  But he knew more than me at the time.  Maybe they are recovering together.  LOL  Shoot.  I have been wondering about that.  Huh.  Now I know.  Love the rug also.  A little baby can make anyone feel better.  Keep snuggling Grandma.  :)

belovedbyHim- I love the cartoons!  so true.

    Have a good Ladies :)

  • Chipmunk

DoriBry - That is a great idea about the water or Gatorade!!

Our desktop computer is set with a photo slideshow while it is in dormant mode - I just had a funny picture of my sailor show up. I was taking a picture of him in his dress whites and he had his lips pursed in a funny looking smile!!

Shanny - At least it was a text message and not a doorbell ringing at 0630!! That happened last week and then they drove off, I wasn't a happy camper that morning!

  • MyKidsMom

My son had his wisdom teeth removed in boot camp in September, so they haven’t stopped for COVID. I guess he was a little loopy from the anesthesia; in his letter to my husband, he reported that his buddy who was escorting him back said he was chasing geese.

Today is his birthday. I need to text him to wish him a happy birthday, though he won’t get it until after class this afternoon.

  • VintageGal

    Good morning ladies,

Partyofseven ~  Hello! How’s it going having your sailor home? what kind of fun things are you guys up to? I’m all stocked up on food and goodies so we’re good there. And really what’s more important to an 18 year old man then food?!

Chipmunk ~ Good morning busy lady! Enjoy your outings with your young man :) it’s the best when you can spend that quality time with them and to just listen to them talk. Oh and a doorbell at 6:30 in the morning... oh heck no!
so maybe I should’ve been buttering up my new mailman with goodies because as soon as my BC letters stopped coming all of a sudden the mail started coming on time. It’s like he was trying to irritate me! LOL

Shanny ~ Good morning that’s a not so nice wake up call! Overnight I have my phone on silent but then my kids are on emergency bypass. Their phone calls are the only ones that are important enough to merit a call in the middle of the night. Lol and I can’t say that it hasn’t been my 13-year-old son who wants to go down for a snack or drink of water and wants me to go down there with him. It’s funny because he’s huge and he could probably knock somebody out, but when he gets to the bottom of the stairs and it’s dark there’s no moving forward. He has woke up his sister in the middle of the night to go downstairs with them I kid you not. ~ rambling~
    Enjoy your day! :)

Doribry ~ That is a very kind thing to do for your mailman. I know they appreciate that!

    Proud and grateful
~ I really do hope that you get a letter from your sailor! Tell him that mama needs to see that handwriting!

Ladybluefire~  Good morning! Your long to do list looked a lot like mine! I love getting my dawn, vinegar, and water mix and rag and wiping every surface down! I got the back patio blown off and now I just have a few things left to do before tomorrow.
your photo album sounds so sweet and the kids are going love them! I know they’re young adults but I still call them kids :) I really hope you have some good rockin tunes on while you’re getting your chores done!

Phoenixmom, Mom2blondies, Warriorprotector, Belovedbyhim, Northwoodsmom, Anti M, NewMilMom, C’smom ~
    Have a wonderful day ladies!

To all of our new moms keep your ringer is on high and answer any and all calls! You can always hang up on a spam call! BNMH!!!

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning All Happy Thursday To you all!
Hoping today finds all well safe and warm!

Good Morning to all the New Comers, so glad to have you here. This site will give much info on everything they will be enduring while in BC. So please come and ask questions.

    Have a Good Day all!
  • Phoenixmom

    Morning Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am part of the body of Christ and thank You for the opportunities I have to meet regularly with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I pray that I may actively seek out opportunities to meet together with others.. so that together we may give mutual encouragement and motivate one another towards godly love and good works. And Lord, as the world becomes increasingly dark, I pray that none of us may fall into the trap of becoming isolated in our walk, but may we grow in grace and wisdom and in a knowledge of You - enjoying godly fellowship and sound teaching - to Your praise and glory, AMEN.
  • Shanny

VintageGal:  I have silence turn on at 10:30 pm and off at 7:15 am. And my sailor and my nieces are the only exceptions. My sailor used come walking in my bedroom in the middle of the night and wake me up to ask how to make something he wanted to eat. I used to grumble at him. Now I miss it.
