Phoenixmom-  Yay!! That is wonderful!! I am so glad he doesn't have the virus. Praise God!!

Yes, our air quality has been bad for a couple of days now. My allergies/asthma has been acting up. We need to have some good rain.

I am doing well. Started back to school on Monday, so have been busy with that.

  • Shanny

PhoenixMom:  I am so glad your little one doesn’t have COVID!  Hope he continues to feel better quickly!

partyofseven:  hope the return to school has been smooth for you. My nieces went back on hybrid in person/online Monday. One is already home today sick. Maybe a case of her mom is working from home today so she figured she should get to stay home too...  but who knows

nothing much new here. Still waiting for my new dryer to get delivered and hooked up. Have reached my limit of patience with taking clothes to my brother’s to dry.

    WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS!!!

We are glad you are here!!  Please feel free to jump on in and ask any questions you may have or just say hi!  We will laugh with you, cry with you, get angry with you, and celebrate with you!  This is a crazy journey and we are all here to help!

More questions.... This is about the health insurance and car insurance. He is currently under our health insurance plan, but I know once he gets to BC he will be under Navy health insurance right? Do we drop him from our own health insurance? One thing is that I think our health insurance will only allow you to make changes in November. Do we just wait till then? Or do I try to talk to our insurance company? Or do we just leave them? Would it be helpful to have a secondary insurance, in addition to the Navy insurance? Like specifically with Medicare, it would be helpful if my parents had a secondary

then wondering about car insurance? he is in our car insurance. After BC his additional training which is about a year long. Will he be driving during that time? Just not sure we should just leave them on our car insurance for now.

  • ellen0502

Joy, Keep your recruit under your health insurance through bootcamp. When he graduates is when you should drop him from your plan. There is no need for secondary insurance, and the Navy frowns on it. Dropping him from your insurance should be allowed at any time since it is a life event, and it is for military. If they deny dropping him, stand your ground with them.

For car insurance, I personally would leave him on your policy. He probably won't be driving during school, but if he comes home on leave he will need to be insured.

  • warriorprotector

Hi Joy!  Our SR is on our insurance but until he can get his car at A school we placed his car in storage mode with our insurance (we have USAA), just call your insurance and tell them your son is in Navy boot camp and will not be driving.  Saved my son a ton of money on Car insurance.  We drive it once a week locally to keep it going.

Medical can be dropped anytime with military service, like Ellen said stand your ground!

  • Shanny

Joy:  I kept my son on health insurance until he was out of BC. Then it was a 3 month process of repeatedly calling and ended up having to go way up in the supervisors to get them to finally remove him. But I was told that if you have another insurance, tricare because a secondary and yours in primary. Which is where the problem is. It kind of cuts the military out. Your sailor should only be getting care through the military unless it is an emergency and I may be wrong, but someone said they have to call tricare for permission to go to the ER if possible

auto insurance, my son’s truck is on storage only. It is not being driven by anyone but I have storage coverage on it. I think it is $8 a month.  I called my agent and she said since he won’t be driving, to take him off since he raises my rates so much being only 19. If he purchases a vehicle where he is stationed, he will have to see about insuring it there which would be a lot cheaper than insuring in Michigan. Not sure if this is the best route but that’s what she told me to do. (Being in a no fault state, we have have one of the highest rates in the country)

  • Shanny

warriorprotector:  my son bought a trickle charger for his truck before he left. They are like $24. It hooks to the battery and will charge it if the battery starts to get weak from sitting. He just bought a new battery 6 months before he left and didn’t want to look at buying another one.  I literally have to do nothing to it. It turns itself on and off. I do go out and check to make sure it is working every now and then. I can’t drive his truck. So this was the best choice.

  • warriorprotector

Phoenixmom: Glad your little is on the mend!  :) Thank you for the photo link...funny how they all look the same!  The mask makes it so much harder!  Looks so cold!  :)

  • Phoenixmom

Hi Party take care of yourself it has been quite bad with the AIR, I'm SO Happy as well with the outcome!

Hi Mrs. Shanny, glad all is well with you, and Thank you.

Thank You Ladies for answering Joy was in a Meeting and Presenting. Ugh! Glad its over, Never worked with a Bunch of Lazy people in my Life! Frustrated! I wish I could say I don't know how to do this or that and get away with it, UGH!!!!!!! Calm down Breathe...……..in and Out...…….. cant wait until I retire. These people are gonna be lost...…….cant wait!

  • partyofseven

Phoenixmom- Thank you and I will.

Ugh!! I have some of them here as well!! Yes, what will they do without us?

Shanny- I know. We were suppose to go back to hybrid on the 19th but that's not happening. Our area that my school is in is one of our highest in our state!!! Right? Go figure!!!

Hopefully she is not sick with the virus. Take good care of yourself as well.

    yay for new dryers!!!

Northwoodsmom- Thank you for your prayers and prayers for you as well as you work in the school. My area is one of the highest in our state so I am thanking God every day that I have not gotten sick yet!! At this point I am not sure when we will go back to hybrid but they are talking about changing the schedule up and I am like no. Our parents and students do not need to worry about another new schedule!!!

    But we will see!!!

  • Anti M

Tricare is the military coverage, and active duty must be on Tricare only.  Most people carry their SR on private insurance until they graduate from boot camp in case they do not make it.  They MUST come off your coverage when they graduate.

If a sailor is injured while on leave or  liberty, or has a serious life threatening condition, they may go to the ER without prior authorization.  If they get sick when away from base, they call the nurse line, 1 800 Tricare, and the nurse can tell them where they can be seen.

Otherwise, it they're at their command, they go to sick call.

  • Phoenixmom

Thank You Mrs. Anti M, for the Information. How are you doing and feeling these days? How about your Kitty Kat? Hoping the weather isn't to bad over by you. These couple of days will be in the 70's and this weekend around 67. hasn't been to bad except the air quality has not been the best for those that have breathing problems.

  • Phoenixmom

So Yesterday while taking little man to the Dr. I came across 3 different processions (funeral) all I can think is that this Covid isn't nothing nice and it doesn't discriminate. A Husband and wife an Aunt and Uncle both passed away together in the Hospital yesterday. a Relative of a Relative. I just cant imagine a Mom and Dad together leaving this world and the Adult kids some teenager left without. I am so afraid to go out that I wear gloves and mask and carry wipes and hand sanitizer, like you just don't know. I wanted to start the New year with Peace, Hope and Love and Understanding but seems like it's now turned into paranoia, unsure and withdrawal from everybody,.

  • Shanny

Anti M:  Thank you for explaining that!  I was afraid I was wrong. I appreciate you clearing up my murky understanding. :)

  • DoriBry

I am currently working on trying to get my SR off of our insurance and it has not been easy.  Especially since we just started a new year.  My husband's HR department is saying we have to contact insurance directly and then insurance is saying HR has to handle it.  Why is taking someone off  a policy such a hassle? I am honestly curious.

  • Shanny

Argh i am stressed by what I am seeing on TV right now.

  • Phoenixmom

DoriBry I feel you, some haven't had such a hard time But I know my Insurance we had to wait for open enrollment in order to tke our son Off.

Shanny I just read about what is happening in WA. with the rally's. Unbelievable!

  • Shanny

DoriBry: I seriously had to call and demand to talk to talk to a supervisor. Then she didn't help so I demanded to talk to her supervisor. Then I did some yelling. Sadly. I hate to admit it. I said Look. I don't care what you  have to do. You are messing up my child who is in the United States Navy. He is not a dependent. And he is fully covered by the military. He cannot have another form of insurance. It is not allowed. Ive been nice and polite. That hasn't worked. You need to fix this. If you can't,  get someone else on the phone who can.

  • DoriBry

Do you think the issue with insurance is mentioned in the recruiter's office? I am thinking not since it sounds like some of us had to figure it out.  But then again, I am not sure my son would have thought to tell me since he is not paying for it.

Shanny-Yes, I am going to keep on this until we get him removed.  Especially since there is a big difference in the cost.

  • Phoenixmom

DoriBry they are told once on Tricare for the Parents to remove them from Ins. Once in BC they were covered but at the same time Parents leave them on until after BC just to make sure all is fine and they have become sailors. but again some Insurances have policies in place that only time for removal is when open enrollment is around that is when they can be removed. I found there is no if's and or buts. you can continue trying, for me it wasn't a problem since I was used to paying for his Ins. but it does make a difference in price. and it can be costly. Good Luck!

  • Chipmunk

DoriBry - just my two cents worth on the insurance - It is a hassle now because it has all become political or a money maker, instead of actual people helping other people out. I am sorry this is an issue. I think BelovedbyHim has mentioned before, it is a life change event. Those are generally expected to be dealt with, within 30 days of them happening, such as adding a child onto the insurance policy.

I would call the insurance company back but not likely to change things.  Depending on your company, there might be a supervisor otherwise not, but go up the ladder if you have to. Even if to the boss if you can't get anywhere.

  • partyofseven

    Phoenixmom and Shanny

My phone has been dinging while I am in class. It is crazy what they are doing. Be safe while you are out and just be aware of what is going on around you. I know and that is so sad. There was one family in Chandler remember that the two teenagers lost both of their parents. So so sad!!!

DoriBry- I have heard good and bad things about taking off your son or daughter off of your insurance. Like ellen0502 and phoenximom and the other ladies said don't give up until they take him off. I'm sure the recruiter didn't think about mentioning it or might have said that it wouldn't be a problem to take him off. I am not sure!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!

Anti M- I second what Phoenixmom said. Hope you and the kitties are doing well!! Thanks again for all of your information!!  :)

  • belovedbyHim

Mykenzie—While in ROM, NO They cannot leave to go to the post office and no one delivers to individuals like in BC.
Joy-- For Car insurance, Call and place him on Military status. Do NOT drop him completely since it will make it very hard and expensive for him to get a new policy when/if he gets his own car and starts driving. If they need to drive while on Duty he is covered by the Navy.
For Health Insurance—Wait until they complete Bootcamp and then Yes REMOVE them. They are not authorized to have any secondary insurance and in fact Tricare is Secondary to any other insurance so you would have to pay your co-pay and deductable before Tricare would pay a penny. They can get in trouble for having a secondary insurance so please remove him. This qualifies as a Life Event (Like a birth or death or Divorce) so you do NOT need to wait till open enrollment, however you may have to push the matter with your HR. Some just seem to be poorly informed on this subject and they want to keep collecting the premiums. It may not change your costs but it is the right thing to do.
DoriBry—It is discussed at BC but I believe briefly. I do not remember the recruiter mentioning anything about it. Our recruiter was not very helpful or frankly honest!
  • JWMom

Hello...new here. My son just entered ROM yesterday, January 5, 2021. Im hoping to learn as much as I can as I read through the more experienced comments as well as the questions that are fielded through others. Thank you!
  • Anti M

Party, Phoenix, I am well, and the kitties are adorable.  Except Lolo who has a weird habit of peeing on me at random.  I think she's special. My shallow cough returned, annoying.  Weather is cold and clear for now, although there are storms over the Pacific headed this way.

Shanny, what is on TV stresses me too.

  • DoriBry

Thank you everyone for the information regarding insurance.  Im sure eventually this will get resolved.

I had to turn off the news and turn on music instead.  Listening to Andy Gibb and Helen Reddy is much more relaxing than watching the chaos currently going on.

    JWMom-Welcome!

  • Chipmunk

JWMom - Glad to see you made your way to the BC Mom group!!  There is a lot of information and a lot of chatter each day. It sometimes is easiest to just log in an scroll back through the messages than to try and keep up in your email feed.

Feel free to ask any questions and repeat if we miss replying.

BelovedbyHim's blog  First Things First-- The Quarantine Edition   is a good one to start with as is all of the information in the pages above on the upper right. The video links on the upper left give you an idea of BC.

Your Form Letter with his mailing address will arrive between  4-5 weeks after he left for BC unless something else intersects that. "No News is Good News" is our mantra around here.

Good Night Everyone!! It has been a long day!

Good Morning ladies and welcome to all of our new moms and dad,

We hope that you are doing well today. Please remember to keep your phones with you at all times and those ringers on loud as you don't want to miss any calls.

Also, keep writing those letters and prayers for calls and letters to come today.

Let us know when you get one as we like to celebrate with you.  :)

JWMom- Good Morning and welcome to our group. We are glad you are here.

No question is ever dumb and someone will answer you!!

    Welcome again!!

Anti M-  It is good to hear from you. Cats are so weird sometimes aren't' they? lol

Don't let that pesky cough go on to long before you get it checked out. Take care of yourself and be safe out there!!

DoriBry- Good Morning and you are very welcome!!!

Good Morning to all of our regular moms. Have a wonderful day today!!!

    Psalm 51:10

Party, I can't get into the clinic where my PCM is while I have symptoms.  They do a Covid test first, you text in and "wait in your car".  As a non-driver, I have no car to wait in.  My friends can't take me.  I asked the clinic what to do, they said maybe they could get me a chair?  It's freezing outside, literally.  So no, I can't get my cough checked.  I am beyond frustrated.

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning All, Happy Thursday to you, hoping this day finds all well.

Well first week of Jan. almost over lets see how fast this year goes. Mrs. Anti M so sorry for all you are going thru, hoping your cough goes away soon and you start feeling better soon.

Party thank You for the scripture, yesterday I had Ben's Tia (Aunt) call me and she needed my help finding a verse in the Bible so I got my bible and helped her to find it, I sometimes wonder if she puts me through the test. But I found it and read it to her. she was content. Thank You Lord for guiding my fingers to find the verse she needed.

Well you all have a Great Day!

  • warriorprotector

    Good morning lovely ladies!

I love that we keep this platform free of political discourse, it's as it should be for military families.  Hopefully, we will not let ourselves get too stressed out, it's hard right now but I put my faith in Him and pray for peace for our nation and our hearts.

In light of that, I would like to share a portion of a letter that was sent to my SR before he left for BC from a retired Navy Captain.  It's how my family has always operated concerning politics, we are active but quietly and respectfully as family members.  Active duty members have a different obligation.

"Remember, the military supports and defends the Constitution of the United States, and in so doing, is most emphatically not a political organization. There are those without experience who view it as such in these exceptionally turbulent times, but the Armed Forces defend the Constitution via legal orders, not any one person. Frankly, I would suggest completely divorcing yourself from political considerations while on active duty -- to include being mindful of the restrictions imposed on your speech and conduct by the Uniform Code of Military Justice and engaging in neither political discussions nor political activity of any type. Active duty, and your obligations, do not end when you get home and change into civilian clothes -- you are on active duty 24 hours a day."

This retired Navy Captain gave my SR two pages of thoughtful insight about the military life.  Please feel free to share with your SR's, it's important for each of us to understand how we conduct ourselves as military members and families is different than civilians.

Hope all of you find moments of joy today!

  • Phoenixmom

    Morning Prayer for scripture below:

Dear Lord, create in me a clean heart. Renew my thoughts to be pure, my spirit to be joyful, and my actions to be selfless. Help me to have a heart like yours. In your name I Pray, Amen.

  • warriorprotector

AntiM: That sounds terrible, they don't have a space just inside their facility that they could accommodate your needs? I hope you can get a better answer, I'd take you! :(

  • Shanny

Morning everyone!!!  Yes I have been awake for hours but am just now getting around to making my coffee. Can't seem to get warm today so bring on the happy cup of hot coffee please!  (No hot chocolate until I make it to the store for more milk....)

Just wanted to WELCOME ANY NEW MEMBERS I may have missed yesterday. The day was all consumed by the news.  Welcome to the board. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Someone will always answer!  If you question gets lost in our chatter, please ask again because we will never intentionally ignore you!  Oh and no question is ever a dumb question!  This Navy life is such a unique, crazy journey.

Sounds like my coffee is done...  time for moving with this day. Been lazy for too long!

  • warriorprotector

Party & Phoenix: Your prayers are always a blessing!  I love this verse:

"For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you."  Isaiah 41:13

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Shanny get warm girl, drink that coffee.

Mrs. WarriorProtector I love that verse as well, Psalm has been one of my Favorites My son would always buy me a Calendar with all the Verses from Psalm, But since he isn't here I found one and bought it for myself. Thank You for sharing Have a Wonderful Day!

  • Anti M

Warriorprotector, thank you for sharing that.  I don't know about the other branches, but the Navy tends to run very apolitical on a personal basis.

  • Shanny

warriorprotector:  i am sure that has been difficult for my sailor. He has been very politically active since middle school. He and i do not tend to agree politically. And he loves to push my buttons about it. But he hasn't mentioned it since he went to BC. When I told him last night what happened yesterday he was speechless.

Anti M:  i wish i were closer. I would drive you to your appointment. I don't even understand a doctor's office not having ways to help every single patient. :(

  • partyofseven

Anti M- I am so sorry and I wish I could take your frustration away!! That is crazy!! They should have a service that could come and pick you up so you can see someone!!

If I could I would take you as well!!

Try to enjoy the day if you can!!!

Phoenixmom- you are very welcome. And yes you know God was guiding you. I love it when I'm able to find a verse when I need it.   :)

warriorprotector: Good Morning and thank you so much for that. I am going to copy and paste it so I can show it to my son!!!

His childhood friend which we have been friends with that family for a long time. A couple of months ago the mom was really posting stuff way out there.

When my son called he said "Are you posting that stuff on fb"? Have you been seeing what the mom was posting. Yes honey I saw them and no I haven't posted anything like that on fb.

He said good. I just shook my head and I was like ok Lol

I usually keep my posts pretty clean and the family and friends that really know me will know what I'm talking about without having to get into all kinds of details out in public!!! lol

phoenximom & warriorprotector- I love that verse and I love The book of Psalms too. Thank you for posting that.

Shanny- Good Morning and get warm!!! Have a great day!!!

AntiM-I can't believe they don't have some way to accommodate you. I'm so sorry and hope you can find someone to drive you very soon!

Shanny-my SR likes to push my buttons too. We never talked about politics much (current events, but not politics) until this election. I had to distance myself from it yesterday. I turned on ER on Hulu and crocheted the day away! I feel like as a military family now we have a responsibility to not publicly project any ideology that could impact our SR and his career. Not that I ever post anything 'out there' but I think keeping my opinions to myself is the way I'm going to move forward.

If you believe in prayer we could use some today. My MIL had been having headaches. She went in for some imaging a couple of weeks ago and 2 days ago they said they saw something that needed more advanced imaging so she went right in and yesterday they confirmed that she had a brain tumor. She is in surgery now. Of course no one can go to the hospital so we are all just waiting to her from FIL when he hears something. I told my husband to take comfort in the fact that it is operable because that means she could be fully cured.

  • mom2blondies

Reading through the PFA requirements I'm thinking about how worried my SR was before he left in passing the swim portion. Not because he can't swim, he is a strong swimmer, he worked his teen years as a lifeguard, he surfs and snorkels, and is a triathlete. But......he can NOT float! He would go to the pool working on different techniques trying to figure out a way to make his body float. He sinks like a rock....literally. I found a video on the Navy bootcamp swim test and most everyone was moving their hands/feet. I told him that it looked like he could do 'fishy hands' and that it seemed like they just needed to stay afloat in place (not treading water) and not truly float (dead mans float). He was relieved to hear that because he knew if he could do 'fishy hands' and an occasional little kick of his feet he should be able to stay afloat and not end up laying flat on the bottom of the pool. I can't imagine they would fail a strong swimmer for being physically unable to float, right? UHG! He said he thought the swim test was on Monday and I really wish I could know how it went.
